Ever since I watched New Mobile Report Gundam Wing for the first time since it aired on Toonami and saw the commercials on TV in the early 2000s, I developed a desire to build Gundam model kits, or Gunpla. I started with a 1/100 Wing Gundam but it was a total disaster, but I gradually got better when I started getting more Gunpla kits from retailers like Wal-Mart and K-Mart. When US retailers discontinued selling them stateside sometime in the mid-2000s, that made me sad as a builder and my desire began to wane. When I started college in 2006 and continuing towards 2009-2010, a local comic book shop began selling Japanese model kits, including Gunpla. My passion for building Gunpla was rekindled when I found out that the Gundam series and the Gunpla brand was celebrating its 30-year anniversary at the time and it grew to fever pitch when I started watching Mokei Senshi Gunpla Builders Beginning G and other series that involved Gunpla building and Gunpla battles that were similar to MMORPGs. Even though I have improved as a Gunpla builder, I still have much to learn about the hobby as a whole. I still enjoy building Gunpla to this day, even as the Gundam series and Gunpla brand is celebrating over 40 years. There is one truth about this hobby that holds true even to this day. Gunpla can be anything you want it to be. The limit is your imagination.
