2018 Weekend Program

1/6 ~ 2/4 티제이 홍 TeeJay Hong (b.1991)

티제이 홍은 도피주의(Escapism) 문학을 통해 백인 우월주의(White Supremacy)로 규격화 되어버린 포스트 모더니즘의 표준화를 비판하고 맞선다. 뉴욕과 런던을 기반으로 활동하며 비디오, 회화, 도자기, 퍼포먼스, 설치 등 다매체를 통해 회의적 디스토피아(Skeptic Dystopia) 를 연출해 낸다. Slade School of Fine Art에서 학��를 수석으로 졸업하였고 Columbia University에서 석사학위를 취득하였다. 그는 영국 Bury Art Museum and Sculpture Centre (2017) 와 뉴욕 Art in General (2016) 에서 개인전을 개최하였고 ICA London, 영국 (2015) Jewish Museum, 미국 (2016) La Salle Earl Lu Gallery, 싱가폴 (2017)에서 전시했다. ICA Philadelphia, 미국 (2018) 전시를 앞두고 있다.

TeeJay Hong is a New York and London-based Korean artist predominantly working in performances with sculptural video installations in addition to paintings and ceramics. By engaging with the idea of escapism, Teejay aims to challenge and question the strict narrative of normative trends relating to white supremacy in the modern hierarchical structure of postmodernism. Recent solo shows include Angry Hotel Propaganda, Bury Art Museum and Sculpture Centre, Manchester U.K. (2017); Blue Salmon, Art In General with CCA Tallinn, Estonia (2016), Group shows: Tag: ICA Philadelphia (2018), Fault-Lines: Earl Lu Gallery, ICA, Singapore (2016), In Response: Unorthodox, Jewish Museum, New York (2016); and Bloomberg New Contemporaries (2015), Nottingham and ICA London, UK (2015). TeeJay holds a B.A. from Slade School of Fine Art, UCL London and an M.F.A from Columbia University.

2/24 ~ 3/25 정현두 Jung Hyun Doo (b.1987)

정현두는 서울에서 거주하며 회화 작업을 하고 있다. 홍익대학교에서 회화를 전공한 뒤, 서울과학기술대학교 조형예술학과 석사 과정 중이다. 2017년에 첫 개인전 <무지개를 쓴 사나이>(공간형)을 열었다.

Jung Hyun Doo lives and paints in Seoul, Korea. He graduated from Hongik University, B.F.A, painting and currently studies at Seoul National University of Science and Technology majoring in Fine Arts. This year he had his first solo exhibition <A Man Wearing a Rainbow> at Art Space Hyeong.

서울을 기반으로 작업을 하며, 스스로 체험하는 경험과 기억 속에 문득문득 떠오르는 출처가 불분명하고 무분별하게 혼합된 공상을 먹으로 그림에 담는다. 홍익대학교 동양화과와 동대학원을 졸업하고 두 번의 개인전과 다수의 단��전에 참여했다.

Sang A Han is an artist based in Seoul, South Korea. She depicts unknown source of ambiguously entangled fantasy that comes across the mind based on her own experience and memory using Korean traditional ink called ‘Meok’. She received BFA and MFA in Oriental painting from Hongik University. She has held two solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group exhibitions.

5/26 ~ 6/24 이현지 Hyunji Lee (b.1987)

이현지는 물질을 미시적으로 바라보고 정지된 형상이나 대상이 아닌 사건으로 이해하고 작업을 한다. 스페인 werner thöni artspace (2015)에서 개인전을 열었고, 일본의 Caso Gallery (2013), 신한갤러리 (2014), 20/300 (2015) 등에서 다수의 단체전에 참여하였다. 빈집프로젝트 (2017~), 프랑스 Dos mares (2017), 스페인 werner thöni artspace (2015)등의 레지던스 프로그램에 참여한바 있다.

Hyunji Lee perceives object in a microscopic perspective and consider it not as a stationary form or subject, but as incidents. She had her solo exhibition <werner thöni artspace> (2015) in Spain, and had group exhibitions at Caso Gallery (2013), Japan, Sinhan Gallery (2014), 20/300 (2015) and more. And she has been selected to participate in art residencies; BE-IN Project (2017~present), Dos mares (2017), France, werner thöni artspace (2015), Spain and more.

7/7 ~ 8/5 김이박 KIM LEE-PARK (b.1982)

김이박은 타인의 식물을 치료하는 <이사하는 정원> 프로젝트를 진행하며 "의뢰자-식물-작가"의 정서적 유대와 의뢰자의 환경이 식물에 어떠한 영향 주는지에 대해 찾아가는 작업을 진행하고 있다. 그는 아픈 식물을 치료하는 것만이 아니라 식물과 의뢰자를 둘러싼 주변 환경을 두루 살핌으로써 식물과 관계를 맺는 각각의 요소들의 상호관계성에 주목하는 작업에 흥미를 가지고 그것을 표현 해나가는 작업을 한다. 그는 이러한 작업 과정에서 식물을 염려하고 걱정하는 치료사의 역할과 의뢰자와 식물의 상황을 인지하고 조사하는 연구자의 역할이 복합적으로 공존하는 흥미로운 이야기를 드로잉과 설치, 영상, 퍼포먼스 등 여러 가지 방법으로 풀어나간다.

KIM LEE-PARK is working on a project called "Moving Garden" in search of how the emotional ties of "client-plant-artist" and the client's environment affects the plant. He focuses on the interrelationships of elements that connect with a plant, and express them by not only treating sick plants but also by scrutinizing its surroundings and the client. Throughout the process, the artist creates an interesting narrative by taking roles of a therapist who cares about plants and a researcher who recognizes and investigates the situation of a client through drawing, installation, video, and performance.

8/25 ~ 9/23 정덕현 Deokhyeon Jeong (b.1986)

정덕현은 눈에 거슬리는 것들을 똑바로 바라보려 하는 한국화가이다. 그는 그림 그리는 사람으로서 자신이 이해한 부분들을 항상 의심하는 태도를 가지고 작업에 임한다. 최근 3번째 개인전 <조각모음> (아트 스페이스 풀, 서울, 2017)을 성공적으로 마쳤다.

Deokhyeon Joeng is a Korean artist who tries to look straight into uncomfortable elements. As a painter, he pursues the attitude of self doubt in what he already acknowledged. Recently he successfully finished his third solo exhibition <Gathering Fragments> at Art Space Pool in Seoul.

김연우 Edie Yonwoo Kim (b.1987)

서울에서 태어나고 자랐다. 홍대에서 예술학을 전공했고, NYU 대학원에서 Visual Arts Administration 전공으로 석사학위를 받았다. 뉴욕에서 공부하는 동안 예��이 서로다른 여러 층위의 관람객에게 닿을 수 있는 방법들에 대한 관심을 바탕으로 도널드 저드 재단, MoMA 등 기관에서 다양한 포지션의 실무경험을 쌓았다. 귀국 후에는 서울시립 북서울미술관의 학예과 코디네이터로 재직하며 기획전시를 보조했다. 올해 5월에는 공동기획한 국내외 청년작가 그룹전 In/visible: Things to be Discussed가 뉴욕 한국문화원의 공모전에 선정되어 전시를 했고, 이외에 종종 미술 텍스트 한영/영한 번역이나, 공동설립한 뉴욕 기반 아트블로그 아트 트라이앵글에 (무겁지 않은) 미술에 관한 글을 쓰는 등의 부가적인 활동을 해왔다. 앞으로도 계속 동시대 미술계의 동료들, 관객들과 함께 가까이서 호흡하며 오래 오래 좋아하는 일을 하고 싶다.

Edie Yonwoo Kim was born and raised in Seoul, Korea. She received a BA degree in Art Studies from Hongik University, and a master’s degree in Visual Arts Administration form New York University. Having been interested in how art can reach out to wider range of audience, she worked at various institutions/positions including but not limited to Visitor Services internship at Judd Foundation to develop and manage the foundation's public programs, and as Special Programming & Visitors Department assistant at MoMA to plan events/programs for different museum affiliate groups. Most recently, she worked at the Curatorial Division at Buk-Seoul Museum of Art as a curatorial coordinator. Kim co-curated the open-call winning exhibition In/visible: Things to be Discussed (Korean Cultural Center New York, 2017.5-7), and also independently worked as a translator and writer of art-related texts.

박혜린 Hae Lin Park (b.1989)

미묘함과 확실성을 동시에 지닌 동시대 작업을 지지하며 지속적으로 탐구하고 싶다. 그리고 무엇보다도 나의 활동이 사회적으로 긍정적인 영향을 끼치기를 바란다. 미술관(퀸즈미술관, 드로잉센터 등), 갤러리, 레지던시 스튜디오, 작가 스튜디오에서 다양한 경험을 쌓았다. 김연우 기획자 외 일인과 함게 뉴욕의 아트씬과 전문성 있는 미술 관련 내용을 대중에게 쉽게 전달하는 뉴욕 기반 아트블로그 아트 트라이앵글을 공동 설립, 운영했다. 2017 뉴욕한국문화원 공모전에 당선되어 In/Visible: Things to be Disussed를, 2/W의 첫 기획전으로 A Matter of Awareness를 공동기획했다. 홍콩에서 고등학교 졸업 후, 뉴욕 SVA (School of Visual Arts)에서 Fine Arts를, NYU (New York University)에서 Visual Arts Administration 석사 학위를 받았다.

Hae Lin Park supports, and researches contemporary art that is constituted of subtlety and certainty. Most of all, she hopes her activities have a positive impact on society. She has a wide range of experiences working at art museum(Queens Museum, Drawing Center, etc), gallery, residency studio, and artist studio. Co-founding, and running the New York-based online art platform Art Triangle with Edie Yonwoo Kim, and another colleague, she delivered the art scene of New York, and professional art-related information to the public with ease. Park co-curated A Matter of Awareness at 2/W, and In/Visible: Things to be Disussed for winning the Call for Artists 2017 from the Korean Cultural Center New York. After high school in Hong Kong, Park received B.F.A. at School of Visual Arts, and M.A. in Visual Arts Administration at New York University.

ABOUT WEEKEND AND 2/W

2018년 위켄드와 2/W 는 하나의 고정된 디렉터쉽이 아닌 다양한 참여작가와 기획자가 공동으로 운영합니다.

앞으로 위켄드와 2/W 가 위치한 물리적 공간은 필요에 의해 유기적으로 합쳐지거나 나뉘어질 예정입니다. 더 많은 이름이 생기고 또 사라질 수도 있습니다. 공간에 관여하게 될 사람들 또한 특정한 역할이나 정체성에 얽매이지 않고 자유롭게 공간을 공유합니다.

이러한 새로운 구조를 통해 실험적이고 도전적인 작품과 기획을 마주하게 되기를, 또한 첫 전시를 하는 젊은 작가나 기획자에게는 새롭게 성장할 수 있는 틀을 스스로 구축할 수 있는 계기가 되기를 기대합니다.

2018년 위켄드에서는 김연우, 박혜린 신진기획자가 역량있는 8명의 동세대 작가를 소개합니다.

In 2018, Weekend and 2/W will be operated by multiple curators and artists instead of a single artistic directorship.

The physical space of Weekend and 2/W will be organically structured as they come together or separated as needed. More identities can be added or removed, and the participating curators and artists are not bound to a particular role or identity.

With this new structure, we hope to provide an open platform where challenging young art and exhibitions of emerging artists and curators form their own frames of growth and development.

Weekend is very pleased to introduce two emerging curators, Hae Lin Park and Edie Yonwoo Kim, and eight contemporary artists based in Seoul and New York in 2018. (Inquiries: [email protected])
