Origami || Excerpts of their daily life [Jaha Lee x GN!Reader]
Tumblr media
Cha Seongtae watched as Lee Jaha did his best to craft something with his hands, an unusual concentration underneath his crimson red eyes. Seongtae had practically been looking for Jaha everywhere, the sect leader being needed for something, as usual. However, he checked everywhere, and the last place he thought Jaha would be in was his room.
What surprised him even more is that Jaha was clumsily trying to fold several pieces of paper together, and tying them together as a makeshift bouquet. While Seongtae knew that Jaha was smitten for [Y/N], he didn’t realize how far the sect leader could take it.
Well - he now knew that Jaha was a lot more smitten for [Y/N] than he initially thought. To be fair, Jaha always had a bored look on his face whenever he wasn’t killing or mocking anyone, so when Seongtae saw Jaha smiling softly at the person, he was stunned.
Anyways. To focus on the situation at hand, Seongtae watched Jaha for a bit (the man’s concentration never wavering, despite him usually being observant to everything happening around him). He watched as Jaha failed multiple times at folding a rose, or as he messily tied a few of them together, before sighing and putting it to the side.
Upon taking a closer look, on the side of the table Jaha was working at was an entire stack of paper bouquets - if you could even call them that. They were all messily strung together, and the bottommost bouquets look horrid. He did note that the ones on the top, the more recent bouquets, looked slightly better than the ones before.
After a bit of watching the man struggle, Seongtae spoke up, “Master Jaha, what are you doing…?”
For the first time since he met Jaha, he finally caught the man off guard. Jaha jumped slightly in his seat, before sheepishly turning to Seongtae and making a half-assed effort to hide the paper bouquets behind him.
“Nothing,” He mumbled.
Seongtae raised an eyebrow at the obvious lie, crossing his arms. He replied, “That doesn’t look like ‘nothing’.”
Jaha looked awkward, knowing that Seongtae caught him. His eyes averted, internally battling with himself. He wondered if he should tell Seongtae the truth. Jaha wasn’t the type of man to be so hesitant, and he wasn’t the type of man to be scared if he was acting out of character. After a few moments of debating with himself, Jaha sighed and answered Seongtae, though with a slightly reluctant look on his face.
“I’m… trying to make a paper bouquet for [Y/N].”
“I can see that,” Seongtae quickly answered, earning a sharp glare from Jaha. He quickly shut up. After another few moments of silence, Jaha continued.
“They mentioned it would be romantic, so I’m… working on it,” He finished, looking off to the side as if he were avoiding Seongtae’s gaze.
Seongtae raised his eyebrow again, staring at the bouquets, “They’re quite ugly, to be honest.”
This earned him another sharp glare from the sect leader, and he put his hand up to defend himself. After a bit, Seongtae offered (after he saw the dejected look on Jaha’s face after he finished glaring at the manager), “I know how to make origami. It’s not a bouquet, but I can teach you how to make a swan.”
That day, you came back to your own room, noting something out of place on your desk, on top of several books. It was a singular paper swan, clumsily folded on the corners but was neat. You let out a small chuckle as you noted the writing on one of the wings.
‘Aside from your cooking, you're my favourite.’

Springtime Inn || Excerpts of their daily life [Jaha Lee x GN!Reader]
Extra can be found here.
Tumblr media
You were happily eating noodles at the Springtime Inn. Hearing that Jang Deuksoo had concocted up some new recipe for his noodles, you had quickly finished up your work at the Black Rabbit Sect to try it. Anything the man created felt like heaven for anyone’s taste buds.
“So, how is it?” Jang Deuksoo asked you from behind the counter, smiling at how much you seemed to enjoy the noodles. The new recipe made the noodles much softer yet thicker, and it absorbed flavor from the seasonings which made it much more enjoyable.
Before you could gush about how amazing the noodles were, the door opened. The bell jingled miserably (someone should get a new one - the bell was old and rusty), signaling a new customer entered the warm establishment. You didn’t pay too much mind, seeing as how it would be normal for the Inn to have customers. That was, until the said customer decided to sit in front of you.
“[Y/N],” A familiar voice greeted you. A quick look up from your bowl of noodles showed that the Sect Leader decided to sit in front of you. Misery. You felt exactly like the rusty old bell on the front door.
“Sect leader,” You greeted with a monotone voice, not exactly hiding your disdain at the clear reminder of work. Though, Jaha Lee didn’t seem to mind your soured face. In fact, he looked like he enjoyed seeing the faces of his sect members when they were reminded that they should be training instead of taking time off. With a sigh, you continued the conversation with a quick question, “what are you doing here?”
Jaha stared at you for a few moments, seemingly observing your face, before answering your question in a nonchalant tone. “Am I not allowed to be a customer at the Springtime Inn? Jang Deuksoo works under me, you know. The Hao Clan.”
Darn. You forgot about that part. The sect leader owned practically all of Ilyang, and you couldn’t exactly walk around the place without seeing the impacts of his work. Well, you did commend him for his train of thinking: Ilyang was less of a red district and more of a street food festival. Grumbling, you didn’t have any other words to give your leader and instead continued to (spitefully) eat your noodles.
Jaha didn’t mind your sudden silence, instead looking at Jang Deuksoo to loudly order a meal. He wanted what you were having - the new recipe. Jang Deuksoo tried to smile and lie that you were having a regular noodle bowl, the one Jaha usually had, but somehow Jaha noticed that you were having something he hadn’t tried yet. You wondered how he realized, when all that changed was the thickness of the noodles.
After he ordered, Jaha turned back to you and, being the chatty man that he is, continued to talk, “I’d also like to ask you the same question, [Y/N], what are you doing here?”
“I wanted to avoid seeing you and seeing work,” you answered honestly, continuing to loudly slurp up the noodles in front of him. You liked seeing the slight twitch of his eye, jealous that he can’t do so at the current moment. Besides that, his response to your answer was surprising, as he let out a small chuckle. He crossed his arms and leaned back into his chair, replying quickly, “It looks like that fell through.”
Rolling your eyes, you nodded, “Unfortunately.”
“Unfortunately? I’m paying for your meal,” Jaha spoke with a raised eyebrow, looking at you with a glint of amusement at your attitude. He watched you quickly switch up your attitude - a whole 180 to the one you had initially.
“Ohh, sect leader! Thank you so much, I looove working at the sect!”
He cringed.
“Stop it.”
“I loooove training with you, sect leader! You’re my favourite!”
“[Y/N]-”
“Kisses, hugs!”
Jaha cringed even more, his face contorting into one of disgust. He had to resort to something to get you to stop. Finally, he said, “If you keep this up, I won’t pay anymore.”
You quickly went back to your attitude in the beginning, though now with a smug smile. You liked seeing him cringe, though it was very rare to see it (Jaha only really cringed when Seongtae was boasting about his sword skills). After a few minutes, Jang Deuksoo placed the bowl in front of Jaha with a grin, and went back into the kitchen as he usually did.
You watched as Jaha took the chopsticks next to him and slowly began to slurp the noodles. It seemed like he was inspecting the taste and texture of the noodles. Then, a few moments of uncomfortable silence passed by, before you asked, “…well? What do you think?”
Jaha raised an eyebrow at your strange nervousness. He wondered why you wanted to know his opinion of the noodles really terribly. He quipped, “You’re not the one who made the noodles. Why are you the one asking?”
“…I just wanted to make small talk!” You huffed, placing your chopsticks on the bowl and raising your hands in a ‘what the hell, man?’ sort of gesture. Jaha chuckled at your antics, before answering your previous question, “It’s good. The new texture of the noodles makes it so that the soup seeps in quickly.”
Oh. You didn’t expect him to notice, either. Of course, you, as a self-proclaimed food connoisseur, noticed right away - but this was a new development. Letting out a small smile, you tilt your head and replied, “I didn’t expect you to notice.”
“Of course I did, I like food,” He answered quickly.
“I do as well!”
Jaha nodded as if approving of you, and finally being proud of one of his sect members. He also gave you a small smile, before he spoke, “Then it makes sense that you’re one of my subordinates, then. We should go out to eat more often.”
You answered quickly, a bright smile on your face as you leaned in closer, “I’d love to, as long as you paid!”
“…”
(He did end up paying for your food every time you went out, much to his chagrin (internally, he enjoyed spoiling you).)

Springtime Inn Extra || Excerpts of their daily life [Jaha Lee x GN!Reader]
Extra for this story. Also wrote this quickly, so it's not beta'd 😔
Tumblr media
Jaha Lee was a lot more pleased with his and [Y/N]’s shared interests than he thought. He found himself often thinking about food he’d like to try out with them, which, while the food thing was quite normal, he never thought of them like that previously. Additionally, he never actually thought about food too much before, either. It used to always be about training and protecting the weak, not having food on his mind at all.
Letting out a grumble, he continued to sit under the plum blossom tree, cultivating his qi. Jaha knew that [Y/N] would always seek him out in this area, as he was always here when he wasn’t out on a personal mission. His eyes snapped open when he heard light footsteps approaching him, heart beating strangely quick. Maybe it was them. He could only subconsciously hope.
That hope was quickly dashed when he saw Hongshin approaching him. It seemed that the observant general noticed his soured face, and innocently tilted her head at his pouting.
“Great brother, are you okay?” She asked once she was at a closer distance to him. He grumbled out in response. Hongshin wondered why he was oddly sulky, though there was a famous statement circulating within their sect: ‘Who knew what the sect leader was thinking?’ And she is often reminded that truer words have never been spoken.
“I’m fine,” Jaha spoke, his tone coming out much harsher than intended. However, Hongshin felt chills go through her spine - he hasn’t used that kind of tone with her since they first met, and it brought flashbacks to when they fought and he drugged her (she’d rather not remember it at all).
Hongshin gave an awkward smile, before hesitantly asking, “I just wanted to know why you’ve been going out so much…”
At this, Jaha’s annoyance quickly dissipated, answering the question like how he normally would: in a monotone and nonchalant voice, “I go out to eat.”
“Well, yes, but… A lot more than usual…”
That was true. While Jaha did go out a lot unannounced, there were also many days where he just sat in the sect and trained himself and his subordinates. Lately, however, and it was usually after the usual work hours, he would go out and reason that it was for a stroll. More often than not, he’d come back to the sect after a few hours.
In the beginning, no one batted an eye; he was the sect leader, and him going out like that was normal. However, it had already been a few weeks, and this became a regular, everyday occurrence; so much so, that the generals and even sect members were beginning to suspect something.
“I’ve been trying out the new foods in Ilyang,” Jaha responded after a few moments of uncomfortable (well, uncomfortable for Hongshin) silence.
Just then, another pair of footsteps approached them, though stopping at a considerable distance. Because of their keen observation skills, Hongshin and Jaha’s heads snapped over to the source. It was [Y/N], about to approach Jaha with a bag of takeout they got. It seemed like they noticed Hongshin and Jaha talking to one another, as they suddenly stopped. Under the leader and the general’s gaze, they shuffled their feet uncomfortably.
“[Y/N],” Jaha called out, motioning for them to come closer. And they did. His eyes darted to the bag, then back to his subordinate, indicating that he was curious as to what was inside.
Noticing this, [Y/N] quickly snapped out of their stupor, smiled and placed the bag on his lap. They answered, “I accidentally got more food than intended, since… well, I usually order for two, as you know.”
They gave a small smile to Sister Monkey in a quick greeting, then quickly scurried off again. Jaha quietly opened up the bag, Hongshin watching him. His eyes seemed to grow fonder as he looked at the contents inside: it was his favorite, Pork Bone Broth. There was a note on top of the container of the soup, and it read:
‘Hey! I ordered two and I wondered if I could eat it with you for dinner, like usual. Meet up with me later at the rooftop?’
Hongshin watched as Jaha’s entire demeanor brightened up, his back straightening as he had a wide, stupid grin on his face. She was curious, so she asked, “What’s inside?”
“Food. My favorite.”
