결혼하고 처음으로 혼자 여행을 다녀왔다. 여행지는 삿포로였다. 별다른 이유는 없었다. 여행을 떠나기로 마음먹은 날 가장 항공권이 싼 곳이었다. 내 어느 젊은 날 때처럼 별 고민 없이 떠나보기로 했다. 처음으로 오후 비행기를 탔다. 오후 출국장에는 패키지 여행을 떠나는 사람들로 가득했다. 그들은 ‘혼자 해외여행 다니는 건 참 대단한 일’이라며 중얼거렸다. 약 3시간 비행 끝에 어둠이 깔린 신치토세 공항에 내렸다. 공항은 매우 한적했고 입국 수속은 10분 만에 끝났다. 이렇게 쉽게 일본 땅을 밟은 것도 처음이었다. 국제선 게이트에서 국내선 게이트로 이동�� 도심으로 가는 JR선을 탔다. 자유석과 지정석이 있었다. 일본인들은 자유석을 끊어 선 채로 갔다. 옆에 앉아도 되겠냐고, 안으로 들어가 줄 수 있냐고 묻는 사람은 한 명도 없었다. JR 삿포로역에 내려 스스키노역으로 가는 길을 찾는데 처음으로 혼자 왔다는 느낌이 들었다. 성격상 나와 아내는 서로를 그다지 의지하고 살지 않는데, 익숙하지 않은 곳에 서자 빈자리가 느껴졌다. 우리는 알게 모르게 서로를 의지하고 있었다. JR 삿포로역에서 느낀 외로움은 젊었을 때 그것과 같았다. 구례공영터미널에서 지리산 둘레길 가는 버스를 기다리며 느낀 외로움, 튈르리 공원을 걸으며 언젠가 가족과 함께 오고 싶다며 느낀 외로움 등이 떠올랐다. 삿포로에는 비가 내렸다. 스스키노역에 내려 호텔까지 비를 맞으며 걸어갔다. 젊었을 때처럼, 고어텍스 재킷이 빗방울을 튕겨내는 소리를 들으며 걸었다. 짐을 풀고 나와 스스키노의 밤거리를 걸었다. 한국인은 ��이트클럽 입장이 무료였다. 피식대며 걷다가 22시쯤 라멘을 먹었다. 그 시간에도 라멘집은 웨이팅이 길었다. 술값이 싼 일본이라 위스키바를 기웃거렸으나 언어도 통하지 않고 대화 나눌 상대도 없는 혼자인지라 호텔방으로 들어갔다. 일본 관광지에 한국인이 없으니 참 어색했다. 다음날 새벽 근처 공원까지 뛰었다. 삿포로에는 이미 단풍이 들었다. 맑은 공기와 경치에 빠져 TV타워와 니조시장까지 돌았다. 거리에는 일본 사진 동호인들이 많았다. 그들에게 사진을 한 장 부탁했다. 오후에는 수산시장에 가서 해산물을 구경하고 백화점을 돌며 아내의 선물을 샀다. 평소 쳐다보지도 않던 과자와 디저트를 잔뜩 샀고 주류숍을 구경했다. 국내에 들어오지 않은 브랜드 스토어에서 한참을 고민했다. 조금만 더 어렸으면 바로 샀겠지만 이제는 선뜻 지갑이 열리지 않는다. 저녁에는 최근 새로 생겼다는 전망대에 올랐다. 트램을 타고 이동해 케이블카를 타고 올라갔다. 전망대에 생중계 카메라를 달아놓고 밑에서 구름 상황을 볼 수 있게 해놨다. 위에 날씨가 어떻건 손님을 끌어모아 돈 벌려는 어느 나라와는 달랐다. 이 전망대에서 보는 야경은 2022년에 일본 3대 야경으로 뽑혔다고 했다. 30대라 그런지 돌아오는 트램 안에서 조금 졸았다. 다음날 새벽 러닝은 생략했다. 지난 도쿄 여행 때 조금 무리했더니 귀국해서 ��원 신세를 졌다. 마음을 비우고 스포츠 전문점에 갔다. 육상 강국인 일본답게 제품이 많았다. 행복함과 아쉬움은 늘 함께 찾아온다. 마지막 날인 만큼 고로상처럼 지나가다 아무 식당에 들어가 식사를 했다. 맑은 하늘 아래 햇볕을 좀 쬐다 공항으로 이동했다. 신치토세 공항 출국 면세점에는 별로 볼 게 없었다. 식당가는 컸는데 가격이 비쌌다. 마지막으로 아내에게 줄 초콜릿과 과자를 사서 비행기에 올랐다. 마중 나온 아내와 함께 집으로 돌아갔다. 결혼하고 몸과 마음이 조금 약해진 것 같았는데 이번 여행으로 조금은 더 단단해진 것 같다.
