Dan Heng's eidolon artwork is so good let me explain

first, what does each eidolon mean? these are my guesses based on what we see in game

E3- the character interacting with something important to them

E4- the character's view of themself

E6- the character in their most "unburdened" state

Starting with the E3: both of Dan Heng's feature a maple leaf. Given that Dan Feng's name also references maple trees, I'm assuming the leaf is representative of his past. For Hunt Dan Heng, he's holding the leaf facing away from the camera, in a position similar to his idle animation, suggesting he's about to let go of it. He doesn't want it to be seen, and he doesn't want to have to carry it anymore. For IL, though, the leaf is a much brighter colour. He faces towards that camera, letting it fall into his hand. He's also holding an umbrella which shelters both the leaf and himself. It seems like he's no longer trying to push his past away, but doing his best not just to accept it, but to protect it.

Next, the E4: At first, he's hiding, wearing a hat that obscures his face, only showing half of it as he appears to look behind him. In other words, this version of Dan Heng sees himself as someone who's hiding, or has to hide, as well as someone who needs to watch his back. He still can't get past the doubt that he truly is the terrible person the Xianzhou accused him of being. It also alludes to his guilt about lying to the Express Crew. The E4 art for IL is completely the opposite, though. He looks straight at the camera, and his position and expression are completely unapologetic, maybe even arrogant. He no longer sees himself as someone who's running or hiding. It could also be that this is his perception of Imbibitor Lunae, rather than himself, and that's why his expression is almost dismissive, and why he's looking down at the camera.

Finally, the E6, the character's most vulnerable, unburdened state. The thing with Hunt Dan Heng is, because at this point in the story he's still hiding from himself, we don't get to see his "true" E6. His face is half-obscured by a maple leaf, showing how he won't let anyone see him vulnerable as long as he keeps pushing the past away. It's only with IL that we see Dan Heng finally without any burden, but it's also pretty sad- he's shown in between lifetimes, as if he can only be truly unburdened in a state where he's totally cut off from everything, because the moment he's reborn he has to shoulder the weight of his past and his identity all over again.
