(I hope you're ready for this long essay.)

Being the AU glutton I am, I have massive admiration and respect for the way you keep all your AU Adachis recognizable as Adachi. They are different from canon, but I can look at them and go, “Yeah. That’s still Adachi.” Their thoughts and mannerisms may be different from canon, but I can see how the AU affects him the way it does and it makes sense, unlike so many AUs that completely destroy a character so they fit the confines of the chosen AU better. My main point being: for all of these Adachis you’ve wrangled in, you’ve kept their voices consistent, but recognizable from each other.

I might as well throw a bone for canon Adachi here too. I would never call him my favorite, even though I’ve slowly begun to appreciate his character more. As the only other resident non-thirsty and no-shipping-allowed Adachi fan, I feel like I actually understand him more than I had before thanks to you. You look at him from a more objective standpoint and you don’t fall into the woobification trap I see other Adachi fans fall into. I understand they like his character in a way I never will, but I find that your interpretation of him resonates with me more. I trust your analysis of him more than what the simps will say. More points for you not going on a bad Adachi redemption arc like I’ve seen with so many other attempts. Maybe I shouldn’t say redemption, but you know what I mean.

Since I was bullied into mentioning family and because I am a slave for them, I love the family. Someone could have told me that I’d make an AU where Adachi and Naoto were a family and I would think it was the dumbest shit ever.

It turns out this wasn’t the dumbest shit ever, but the best shit ever. We may have six official families now, but we both know and much to our followers’ dismay, more will be on the way because we sold our souls to them and at this point, we’ll never do an actual canon thread.

Adachi and Naoto seeing each other as a family remains the same no matter what (obviously), but the different AUs always add something new to their dynamic; it’s amazing how much we can weep and cry over them. The amount of times we’ve said “They saved each other :pleading_face:” must be in the hundreds by now, but we are little jesters and we will never get tired of saying it because it’s true. Everyday we offer our souls to them, but also to our beloved Yamano Naoto for creating this AU in the first place.

I will now talk about the OG family because they came first. I mentioned the AU Adachis already, but I must talk about Hierophant!Adachi specifically. He is a nerd who wears sleeve garters and owns a Hawaiian shirt but I care him so much. The way he wants to be a good example for Justice!Naoto, he gives her hope and lets her be a kid unlike her awful canon counterpart, the fact that he tried to stick to the law while in the TV World, I love him so much. The little family dynamic got me weeping. Deadass the only times I have legit teared up are from this AU and this AU only. If that isn’t a testament to how much I think about them, I don’t know what is. I also love Okuninushi, his big sappy himbo Persona. He calls Naoto Little Hare. I’m going to weep-

Of course, none of these families would have been possible without you. I don’t know what caused you to entertain the Adachi and Naoto being related comment I jokingly made early on, but look where we are now. It’s always fun talking with you, and I am always energized consistently throughout our convos. Honestly, this paragraph doesn’t do a good job of showing how canon lizstar is, but you already know how endless my love is for you.

[Liz my beloved, I have been very selfish and hoarding this in my inbox for the past who-knows-how-long because it was so touching and I really didn't have much of a coherent way to respond to it because incomprehensible weeping, but I'm gonna give it a shot.

First of all, thanks, from the bottom of my heart. For being an amazing writing partner, a really fucking amazing Naoto writer, and for just being a really good friend. You said it already, but I feel the exact same way, so I'm going to say it again - I always feel energized talking to you and I never run out of things to say, even when most of them are related to the family and how they saved each other. We both know how attached I've become to plotting interactions and I adore everything we write, from the threads we cultivate to the dumb little text format joke half rps we write in discord.

I cannot believe that our AU has grown his much by the way? It'll be a year since Yamano Naoto first haunted us on April Fool's Day. Writing the Adachi and Naoto family with you was something that came completely out of left field when we first started talking about it, but now here we are, with full out histories and crossovers on six different iterations of the same family. We've come so far and I'm really glad it's been with you, not to be a sap lol, but you really are my closest friend in the rpc.

Literally every detail of all the families, canon and not canon, get me to weep. I'm the same in that this AU is the only thing on this hellsite that has gotten me to legitimately tear up. Every single little detail, from the date that Adachi adopted Naoto to the little gifts they give each other, to the reason that they benefited as people from becoming a family in the first place steals my entire heart. It's just as much to your credit as it is mine that we have, over the course of this year, crafted these amazing universes in the forms of threads and worldbuilding.

Of course, Jeffyu is there too, and we harp on them a lot but I love them too. It's not their fault that they can't be as galaxy brain as the family, but we let them live.

I could gush on for a very long time about how I adore your writing. Your Naoto characterization is on point and never feels compromised, and neither do your headcanons for her. And even with Justice Naoto, I have to throw the same compliment back at you that all the Naotos have a very distinctive voice but are still recognizable as Naoto at the end of the day. Even how justice Naoto and Adadchi picked up verbal and physical mannerisms from each other. I am going to weep.

TLDR i am incredibly flattered by this overly long essay you sent me, so I had to send an equally exhaustive one back to you. I really appreciate that you like my writing and have deepened your appreciation for Adachi - and believe me, you know I'm not the biggest Adachi fan either, but I think writing him has done the same for me. You've given me such a love for Naoto, a character that otherwise I thought was cool but didn't have much information on, and I will never ever grow tired of the family multiverse we've made together.

I like how you write Adachi, when he wants to talk to Tatsuya, who is in the force of all people when dealing with Akira in the thread. Also when he is more tolerable to Akira than Yu. That will always be funny to me. xD ( favorite part meme ).

It's hard to pick just one detail about your portrayal when you breathe so much life into this character. Not only do you capture all the different sides of him, but you give him so much more than he was in game. Your AUs are so extensive and rich, wonderfully thought out and beautifully written. He has histories, whole stories, different lives, and yet he's always Adachi. I really admire you and your writing and I always look forward to seeing you on my dash ❤

I think the thing that gets me about AUs with Adachi in particular is that he's very dependent on his circumstances. Depending on little innocuous things or the people he does or doesn't have in his corner, he could turn out wildly different because he's very much a product of his surroundings at all times.

I tend to go down rabbit holes with Adachi - the magician arcana swap came about because I was wondering how much of his life and himself could be different if he made one decision differently - what if he stopped giving in to those ideals of success and did what he wanted instead? That of course doesn't magicially make Adachi a better person, and neither does the Hierophant arcana au. It's the decisions that he makes based on those circumstances that dictate his morals and therefore his perceived "goodness." Magician Adachi is Adachi with more freedom, with the childishness that he wanted to preserve. Hierophant Adachi is Adachi with more of a purpose, with the maturity and goals that he hadn't found in the canon timeline.

I'm rambling, but it's just a long way to say that it means so, so much that you think so highly of my AUs and my writing. I have a lot of fun with them and I'm glad to see that you like them too! It definitely sates a worry of mine that I'm being too out of left field and self-indulgent with them, so I really appreciate it!]

I know Adachi can really be a lot for some people, he's one of those people that is rarely positive and is generally very slow to change the way he acts of his general sarcastic, derogatory way of acting around people. I've also realized over the course of the year (!!) that I've had this blog that I'm the kind of person who really needs the occasional levity in terms of interactions, so I completely understand the bias towards my more benevolent Adachi AUs.

And I really like how the AUs have depth while not being canon Adachi's kind of struggles - they all have different struggles and interactions with the same people - so I'm really thankful that you like the AUs and still see that attitude that he has, that's exactly what I wanted to pull off!]

I think the way that you really write his internal bitterness and cynicism feels really spot on and really well reflects Adachi's disgust of a lot of people and of society - it also makes for some really funny moments and interactions too! [First of all Jassi, I have to give a big thank you for the message! It means so much that you like how I write his narration and that it plays off as funny sometimes because that is definitely an intention on a few threads where he has that sarcasm, lol.

I'm so glad you enjoy it, too! Writing Adachi's inner monologue and his dialogue are my absolute favorite parts of writing him, and they come very easy to me. He has a very clear voice to me as a character and usually immediately after a reply comes out Adachi's muse is immediately telling me the tone and the words he wants to reply with, which help me take careful notes on how I write replies. His dichotomy in how he presents himself and his bitter internal thoughts when it comes to writing him during the events of Persona 4 are always really fun to write, too.

And I'm so excited to see our muses get into an argument too! aljglfhd I cannot wait to see how their personalities bounce off of each other.]

I could honestly go on forever about how much I love the dynamic between Evie and Adachi and how it changes over time - how before Adachi's arrested he's playing up his goofy facade but it drops around Evie just enough that they can be snarky at each other. And then in P5 oohohoho,,, them meeting again and Adachi just sitting on the sidelines in the Metaverse with Evie, taunting her, their fake relationship to mess with each other... AAAAAAA
