This is not entirely Volturi related, but it will have a great impact on Demetri's backstory and will explain Amun's actions within my worldbuilding.

Once upon a time Amun had two brothers he was quite fond of, but as the Egyptian Coven grew it slowly began to turn against itself. In the end Amun was forced into a war against his own blood and had to watch how both blood and venom flowed into the nile. What remained was Amun as the head of the coven despite having no desire to sit the throne.

He vowed to never see his family be torn apart again.

They knew that as gripped the pink card in their hand tighter. Kai had practically begged them to give it to Roselia, to which they'd happily agreed to.

Yet... Seeing the roses Roselia had left on Kai's desk ignited a... Spark of sorts, in Zee's chest.

Not anger. Not sadness. Jealousy.

They thought about it. If their two best friends got together, they'd get their happy ending and live their life as one.

Where would that leave poor, ten-year-old Zee?

Papa had told them enough. They would never be happy. They simply weren't allowed to be. They could have as many joyful moments as they wanted in her life, but in the end, they'd die sad and hurting.

Why did Kai and Roselia get a happy ending? Why did they have to suffer alone? Weren't they supposed to be their best friends?

It wasn't fair. So they'd make it fair.

They grabbed the matchbox off Papa's desk. They hid in the dark and abandoned alleyway. They tossed the roses and card to the floor.

And in one swift motion, they dropped the whole box of matches, lit and burning, watching coldly and silently as the presents burned, looming ominously over the pile of ashes.
