Lark was born in the noble family of MacTavish in Starkhaven to an Antivan elf named Alessio de Riva, and her elven mother Marigold. Alessio de Riva was a Crow with expert skill in assassination but fled from Antiva to start a life with Marigold. He discarded his Antivan name and took up the name Mordred Oakthorn. For a long time, they lived in bliss.

When Lark was a toddler, she showed signs of being a mage, as she could control fire. Both her mother and father hid this from everyone, and Marigold began to teach Lark how to control it.

Lark wanted for nothing. They weren’t rich by any means but Mordred worked as an assistant to one of the advisors for the Vaels, and her mother worked as a baker. Lark grew up happy. Mordred never spoke of his past to his daughter.

On the eve of her 8th name day, Larkspur returned home to find her house destroyed and her mother and father dead. Lark came face to face with a man–an Antivan Crow, Armando De Riva, Lark didn’t run away, instead, she picked up rocks and threw them at him, her aim impressive to the Crow.

Armando took Lark to Treviso where she would be trained as a Crow. Her coppery ginger hair, deep blue eyes, and freckles would be an asset. At first, Lark tried to run and escape but was always caught to the amusement of Armando.

She was angry and hateful and despite her rage, she took to the training well. She caught up within a matter of months. She was trained to use blades and a bow, to ride horses, and to dance and sing. Everything that a Crow needed to know.

One evening, Lark was forced to go to the Opera as an escort for Armando. She donned beautiful clothes, and though she hated the company she was in, she found that she had a great love for the Opera. There was a young man; a singer who she became infatuated with.

She became friends with the opera singer named Caelum Sidonie, an Orlesian elf who was studying a great musician. He was well versed with a plethora of instruments, but he had a great love for the violin.

Lark kept her friendship with Caelum a secret and visited him any time she had spare time. She often spent her time away from House De Riva, and only returned when she was summoned or to sleep.

Eventually, Lark and Caelum fell in love, and Lark knew she would marry this man. However, before they could wed, Lark needed to leave the Crows for good.

Lark met with Armando and told him her intentions of leaving the Crows. At first, Armando outright refused but Lark managed to convince her to allow her to leave if she paid him back for all the money he put into raising her. He set the amount at 250k gold. Lark lived frugally to set money aside, it would be slow but if she worked hard, she would meet her goal and be free to leave.

She told Caleum of her deal with Armando and he began to save up as well, though Lark told him he didn't need to. He got paid well for what he did, and after months of saving, they were nearing their goal.

One night, Lark returned from completing a contract for Viago, and after giving her a report, she left to reunite with Caelum. To Lark's horror, she saw a body swinging from the steeple tower of the Opera House, battered and bruised as if he had been tortured. It was her beloved Caelum, lifeless.

Lark screamed and with the help of her childhood friend, Illario Dellamorte, she was able to get his body down. She had to contact Caelum's father and after the funeral, Lark went hunting for Armando. She found him in his study.

Lark went berserk, she destroyed his study, and she tried to kill him then and there, she had tackled him and had him pinned, but he managed to disarm her, but that didn't stop her from clawing up his face with her nails. She left permanent scars on his face.

He added more debt to her roster, now having to pay 750k for the damage to his study and he beat her to the inch of her life and left her in the cellar of the de Riva estate. She wanted to die right then and there. She had come to realize there was no escaping Armando. Her need for revenge only grew. From that moment on, Lark closed herself off to everyone around her. She put a wall up and kept everyone at arm's length; too afraid that if she showed a little bit of interest in someone, Armando would kill them.

Angry and heartbroken, Lark continued to work off her debt. By the time she was 23, she barely made a dent. That same year, Lark took a contract and while she did, she freed some prisoners in addition to completing the contract.

Without knowing, she had interfered with a bigger plot to take down the Antaam, which earned her banishment from Antiva, though Armando made it clear that she was still a part of House De Riva, and he would not let her go so easily.

Lark left Antiva, and met Varric. She went with him to Tevinter, and yet still received letters from Viago, she rarely replied to them, and when she did, she only wrote that she was alive. She worked alongside Varric in hopes of tracking down the Dread Wolf.

Post Veilguard: Lark is incredibly depressed when she is back with the Crows. The weight of leading the Veilguard and dealing with the final battle has Lark feeling empty. To her surprise, Viago had arranged a permanent contract carefully arranged by Viago himself funded by the other factions to have Lark not be an assassin but an envoy, while she was still considered a Crow, she would no longer have to take on other contracts and be an assassin.Lark travels between factions to provide aid, and her current mission is to help rebuild Docktown.

With the Elven Gods defeated and Solas holding up the Veil, Lark and the Veilguard had gone their separate ways. Lark returned to Treviso with Lucanis. Life returned to normal, and she resumed being a Crow for the time being. While she did not enjoy this life, it was the only one she had ever known...

With Lucanis as First Talon, Lark's contracts shifted to those who deserved to die. Mostly blood mage magisters that riddled Tevinter. Especially ones that attempted to take over Docktown.

On one particular contract, her target was known as Magister Aurelia of House Amadeus. To the general public, she was considered a saint for her charity work, but behind closed doors, she was using the homeless and slaves for her experiments with blood magic and demons. Her lab was uncovered by another Magister and the contract was struck.

Lark accepted the contract and left Treviso to end Aurelia's life. She arrived at the magister's estate under the guise of a new servant. When she got the magister alone, she attempted to assassinate her, however, she underestimated her strength and Lark was overtaken by a group of demons. When she woke up, she was in a cell deep underground.

For two miserable years, Lark was held captive and experimented on. The experiments were strange and involved Hunger Demons. The experiments were torturous and Lark knew she would die in captivity if she didn't do something.

These experiments left their victims in a mindless state, and yet Lark still retained her consciousness. Whether it was her own strength or the grace of Andraste protecting her, Lark gathered enough strength to escape. She broke free and murdered every single person involved with the horrific experiments, though Aurelia had been absent. To spare them, Lark ended the lives of the other experiments, the ones who had become mindless.

It took Lark some time to dig out of the laboratory, only to find she could not bear the light of the sun, and hid within shade and shadows. She traveled only by night. The other thing she noticed was her incredible thirst, not for food or drink, but for blood.

Lark eventually returned to Treviso, and to House de Riva. She was assumed dead. Lark began to plan her next move. She wanted Aurelia dead, but underestimating her power would only cause the death of a good Crows. With Lark's limitations but newly enhanced powers, she believed she could kill Aurelia and complete the contract.

Her mother worked in town as a seamstress. Lark worked alongside her father in tending the land. Her father had been one of the first victors in District 9. 

A deal had been struck before her birth that if he won the Hunger Games, he would become head of grain production and remain on his land. 

While Lark was well off, she and her family lived humbly. Their home was tiny compared to the homes in the Capitol, though Lark wouldn’t trade it for the world. 

She grew up alongside her best friend and son of one of the stable hands. His name was Caelum and he was Lark’s whole world. 

At the age of 15, Lark was reaped in the 64th Annual Hunger Games. Her father had taught her how to wield a rapier at an early age as well as several different kinds of firearms. However, her blade was the weapon she most trusted. 

Lark fought through the games with blade in hand and though she lamented taking the lives of the other tributes, she needed to survive. She needed to return home and to Caelum and her family. She was successful and was crowned victor. 

She was paraded around and when she finally was able to return home; she found that she had no home to return to. Her home had been taken and her family and lover had been killed in the struggle. Lark later came to find out that her family was suspected to be rebels, though it was a lie and Lark suspected that a neighboring ranch wanted her family’s land. 

Lark fled District 9 and found safety in District 13. There, she eventually joined the rebellion as a soldier, and served obediently for the next 10 years. She became well known for her swordsmanship and went on several recon missions as well as training the troops with melee weapons and firearms. She offers her blade to the Mockingjay as a symbol of alliance. 

When the second rebellion was successful, and the new republic was set up, Lark eventually returned home and took her land back from those who poached it. Her ranch became so well known and prosperity was brought to the District.
