In the future, what if he just had his devil fissures around his arms permanently, or at least 90% of the time. Maybe whenever he fights, he resolves to using that instead of actually calling on Ficedula. Since the sword itself is his lifeline, I could see him being more hesitant to draw it out just in case it gets shattered or stolen from him. Not to mention, he isnβt too good with a sword. Rather than wielding it traditionally I could see him holding it in a backwards grip.
