It’s been a ｒｏｕｇｈ morning so far for the 𝕋𝕣𝕠𝕠𝕡 𝕃𝕖𝕒𝕕𝕖𝕣  . Several 𝕤𝕔𝕠𝕦𝕥𝕤 had torn down the cabins to build make-shift trenches , half the popcorn stash had been COMPROMISED by squirrels , Edward had taken out someone’s eye while trying to ｈｕｎｔ said squirrels with a bebe gun , and he’d gotten a very ANGRILY worded call from the 🌺 𝕗𝕝𝕠𝕨𝕖𝕣 𝕤𝕔𝕠𝕦𝕥𝕤 🌺 leader again that afternoon warning him what would happen to him if ｏｎｅ   ｍｏｒｅ of his boy’s snuck onto their grounds to pull another prank . What he really would have loved was a quick POWERNAP , but of course that wasn’t going to happen . Just as he was about to settle down for a moment , he heard ｓｎｉｆｆｌｉｎｇ coming from one of the cabinets . Narrowing his eyes SUSPICIOUSLY at it , he crossed the room and opened the door to find one of his 𝕤𝕔𝕠𝕦𝕥𝕤 inside - One he shouldn’t have been surprised to find squirreled away like this , sporting a couple of ｂｒｕｉｓｅｓ like he usually did .

He reached in and grabbed the boy , pulling him OUT of the cabinet and settling him on his feet . A quick once-over showed that he didn’t appear to have any broken bones or incredibly ｓｅｒｉｏｕｓ injuries and David sent out a silent thought of gratitude for THAT ; He really didn’t feel like driving to the hospital right now .

❝ Maxwell , ❞ the  𝕥𝕣𝕠𝕠𝕡 𝕝𝕖𝕒𝕕𝕖𝕣  grumbled , kneeling down to the 𝕤𝕔𝕠𝕦𝕥'𝕤 level and settling a hand on either of his arms to hold him in place . There was a couple of tears still ｌｉｎｇｅｒｉｎｇ on the boy’s face , but he didn’t bring attention to them for the time being . The sooner he figured out why the kid was crying THIS  TIME , the sooner he would get to rest . ❝ What’s wrong ? ❞

To     say    David    had    been    worried    about    his    missing    𝕔𝕒𝕞𝕡𝕖𝕣𝕤    would    be    an    ｕｎｄｅｒｓｔａｔｅｍｅｎｔ . Shortly    after    getting    Space    Kid    set    up    to    receive    his    rabies     shot,    the    counselor     had     left     Gwen     to     deal     with     it     on     her     own;     Deciding     that    ｓｏｍｅｏｎｅ    needed     to    CHECK    on    the    condition    of    the    other    𝕔𝕒𝕞𝕡𝕖𝕣𝕤 . Perhaps    he    shouldn’t    have    been    so    ｓｕｒｐｒｉｓｅｄ    to    find    several    of    the    children - revealed    to     less    surprisingly    be    Neil,     Nikki     and    Max . . . The    little     TROUBLEMAKERS - had    snuck     off     who     knows     where     while     he’d     been     otherwise     ｐｒｅｏｃｃｕｐｉｅｄ,     but    he    couldn’t     really    HELP    himself . He     tried     to     focus     on    getting     the     remaining     𝕔𝕒𝕞𝕡𝕖𝕣𝕤     back    to     their     tents     for     the     night,     however     fruitless     such     an     endeavor     was     with    his     WORRY     fresh     in     his     thoughts .

So,     when      he      saw     Quartermaster     riding     half     naked     across     the     lake     with     four     small     figures     ｈｕｄｄｌｅｄ     in     his     little     boat,     David     was     so     THRILLED     that     he     didn’t     even     ｑｕｅｓｔｉｏｎ     the     presence     of     an     extra     kid . He     quickly     made     his     way     down     to     MEET     them     at     the     lake’s     edge,     ｄｅｔｅｒｍｉｎｅｄ     to     make     sure     all     his     favorite     little     𝕔𝕒𝕞𝕡𝕖𝕣𝕤     were     SAFE     and     SOUND . After     checking     Max,     Nikki     and     Neil     over     for     any     scrapes     and     bruises,     David’s     eyes     fell     only     briefly     on     the     fourth     kid     before     turning     to     the     Quartermaster     with     some    level     of     relieved     amusement .

❝ Oh, QM ! You pick up an EXTRA kid from one of the other 𝕔𝕒𝕞𝕡𝕤, as well, huh ? We’re gonna have to take this little guy BACK to his own counselors; I’m sure they’re worried SICK ! It’s crazy . . . The little guy almost reminds me of - ❞ And     then,     David     ｆｒｏｚｅ,     the     realization     hitting     him     like     a     ton     of     BRICKS . His     head     swiveled     back     to     the     fourth     kid,     really     looking     at     him     for     the     ｆｉｒｓｔ     time . His     eyes     grew     wide     and     ALARMED .  ❝ J-j-jasper ? ❞
