running  through  the  scenario  countless  times,  unease  furrows  his  brow.  the  storm  that  sung  within  their  blood  growing  quiet  as  the  lightning  lapping  at  tender  flesh  fades.  it  gives  way  to  a  heaviness  in  their  limbs  that  hadn’t  been  there  before.  a  blanket  of  exhaustion  offset  by  a  rush  of  adrenaline.  if  nothing  else,  a  nap  would’ve  done  him  some  good.  put  some  of  those  post  hunt  jitters  to  rest.  still,  their  mind  doesn’t  slow  from  its  dead  sprint.  turning  over  events  over  and  over  again  —  none  too  different  from  his  time  on  the  pitch,  although  he’ll  feign  denial.  anything  to  separate  himself  from  the  unpleasant  things.  throwing  himself  in  front  of  a  thousand  nasty  beasties  would’ve  been  much  easier  than  that.  maybe  that’s  why  she  does  it  —  or  something  he  forgot  while  lost  in  thought.  it’s  the  tenderness  of  her  lips,  the  subtle  warmth  as  it  grazes  his  brow.  flushing  from  the  tips  of  his  ears  to  the  nape  of  his  neck,  he  blinks  as  if  staggered.  however,  his  recovery  isn’t  any  less  quick.  soft  dimples  forming  in  his  cheeks  as  mouth  upturns  in  a  grin.  that’s  the  way  he  should  look,  isn’t  it?  carefree  and  untroubled.  it  felt  right,  safe.
