screaming about the first unmasking in poto italy and it’s probably my favorite unmasking that I’ve seen

christine wakes up and she’s so EXCITED that erik is a man like she’s singing and she makes eye contact with and grins at him and it makes erik so nervous. right after she grins “there was a man” he turns around on the piano bench and starts fidgeting and glancing up at her as she approaches and then he scooches over as she sits beside him but she just moves closer and closer and they’re touching hands and then christine starts caressing the unmasked side of his face for a moment before taking off the mask. and then he just explodes and is all is THIS not what you wanted?? and then he starts off with a dark chuckle for stydi but he quickly loses face and he’s just so heartbroken about it. once christine sees he’s devastated more than anything, she looks at him with such compassion 🥺 and the final “oh christine, no” he cries and starts rocking back and forth weeping. christine tries to comfort him but he flinches away from her and huddles against the bed and christine tries again, holding out the mask and he finally takes it

It was not often that Augustus found himself meeting with the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. His job did not require him to report to them, his work too important for him to have to share what was being worked on within the Department of Mysteries. However there were times when work between the two was needed to get things done, and this afternoon had been the case. The meeting had gone much longer than he would have liked. A few of the senior men did love to hear themselves speak. It had taken everything in him to continue to smile, to be amiable until the meeting had finally been blissfully over.

He strode out of the office, debating whether to return to work or go for a stiff drink when he spotted Amelia. While he would hardly consider them so much as acquaintances, he knew enough about the woman. A senior member of the Wizengamot, a woman high up in the Ministry who he had no doubt knew a myriad of valuable information. He saw her as an opportunity to further his own knowledge, to continue his work from the inside. A gorgeous opportunity at that. Without another thought about it, he made to stride for the door before hesitating and stopping at her desk. "Tell me. Do they keep it so warm in that meeting room in hopes we'll be so desperate for reprieve that we reveal all?" A poor joke, though the room had been warm. Still he made to adjust his collar, feigning being overheated. "Because if so, I must admit I was close to breaking."

It is weird, after you have learned something about yourself and/or the world, to come back to a favorite book and see it in an entirely different light.

For example: How many kids books had autistic main characters?

I mean, Amelia Bedelia is obvious. Others have already pointed that out. That woman is not quite functioning in her society, but is getting by just well enough to continue to be paid for her work. 😂

But today I found Cimorene of “The Enchanted Forest Chronicles.”

First- you should read these. They are a funny take on “fairy tale tropes,” and despite being what I would call middle grade reading level, they are well written and interesting enough that my entire family (all now adults) keep a copy of the series on our shelves to reread whenever.

But also- this girl looked at Princess etiquette, said “well that looks boring” and learned sword fighting and magic instead. Anytime someone says “But it isn’t DONE,” she argues, “but… I am a Princess. And I do it. So clearly, it is?”

She keeps finding “logical solutions” to her problems, then getting fed up that everyone is confused by her because they aren’t the “socially acceptable” solutions.

The girl WANTS to spend her days organizing a library, organizing a dragon hoard, cleaning swords until they are shiny, and finding new recipes to try in the kitchen. 😂 At one point, someone pisses her off, and she polishes swords until she feels better.

She is always very careful to be “polite” and to learn all the rules of being polite wherever she goes because she doesn’t wish to offend anyone or hurt their feelings, and so in quick order knows more about Dragon society than princesses who have been there for months. She makes friends more easily if they work on a project together rather than just conversation, and honestly seems to hate small talk.

Idk, it is possible I am projecting (not diagnosed, but fairly convinced) but the way she interacts with the rest of the people around her is reading “high functioning autism” to me, or at the very least something neurospicy. She doesn’t seem to have the forgetfulness of ADHD. She REALLY enjoys organization.

Anyone have any other neurospicy main characters they have noticed? We should start a list. 🤩📝

The three broomsticks was a place Gideon liked to frequent not just for the drinks but also for the company, it was close to his apartment so it was also quite convenient for him if he wanted to pop by for a quick bite before work like he was planning to do today. Going in he noted that it was unusually busy for this time of the morning, only a few empty spots in the entire bar. Looking around for someone he knew he was quick to spot Amelia, going for the empty seat opposite of her. "Is this seat taken?"

Edgar had sent an owl earlier, inviting his sister over for lunch, it had been too long since they had last had a chance to talk. He liked to keep updated in her life, protective of his siblings. The wizard was questioning if he should tell her about what had happened between Beatrice and himself, and that he couldn't get her off his mind; and heart.

He felt the disturbance in his wards, that he made his way to the front door to open it for her. "Mia." He smiles, stepping aside for her to come in, closing it behind her before he gave her a big hug and a kiss on top of her head. "You are still in one piece." He teases, letting her go. "Hungry?"

amelia had done everything to avoid the other but it was as if the universe had other plans. she had somehow gotten locked out of the venue and her ex was right outside with a cigarette between their lips. it was uncomfortable. she had been running away from every person who had shown an ounce of interest in a relationship with her in fear of turning it into a car crash of a memory.

of course, due to forced proximity, she had to talk to them but she didn't expect that their past would be all dug up again. "after giving you the best I had, tell me what to give after that"
