Chamava seu melhor amigo para um lugar distante onde mesmo sendo menor de idade ele enchia a cara de cerveja e depois juntos eles começavam a disparar contra as garrafas vazias e se divertirem como os dois adolescentes inconsequentes que eram, até o fatídico dia em que eles beberam demais e começaram a perder o controle do que faziam, e Daehwan entendeu que era impossível sentir medo de morrer quando a arma está em suas mãos, e a garrafa é o seu melhor amigo.

Cinco anos de prisão. Julgado como menor de idade, o garoto se viu ainda bem jovem indo preso conforme muitas pessoas ali pareciam lhe olhar e pensar a mesma coisa: e podia ser diferente? Ele é igual ao pai, ele nasceu para ser assim. Obviamente não havia sido intencional, mas isso não mudava a culpa que ele carregou no peito por todos os cinco anos de cadeia, mais um extra que passou ali por ter sua pena constantemente agravada por mau comportamento. Mas ele se virou, passou parte importante de sua vida ali e quando saiu ele percebeu quão importante: sua mãe não conseguiu lidar sozinha com as dificuldades do dia a dia e agora ele já não tinha mais ela ao seu lado, não tinha quase nenhum bem valioso, havia matado o seu melhor amigo nenhum lugar bom queria empregá-lo e os motivos eram mais que óbvios para o rapaz, mas mesmo que acabasse empregado, logo seria demitido por conta de seu comportamento.

Se viu forçado a sobreviver como dava, mas era insuportável após vinte e três anos ainda estar naquela condição de vida miserável que ele tanto odiava e foi ali que se reencontrou com um de seus “amigos” problemáticos da época de adolescência, ele ainda estava envolvido com o mundo do crime e foi assim que surgiu a oportunidade do garoto trabalhar como “segurança particular”, ou ao menos essa é a fachada de seu novo “emprego”. Agora, Daehwan trabalha auxiliando um cartel criminoso de diversas formas, seja liderando uma pequena quadrilha em missões específicas, dirigindo e protegendo pessoas mais importantes que ele e até mesmo as vezes precisando ir “cobrar” algo de alguém, um emprego que certamente não é bom, ele não queria se envolver de verdade com e certamente não planeja voltar para a cadeia, mas é isso que paga suas contas e que foi responsável por fazer ele atravessar para o outro lado de Gangnam, e ele certamente vai matar ou morrer para proteger o lugar que chegou.

Foi no final de 2023 que sua posição se tornou melhor e mais estável dentro do cartel (para o bem ou para o mal), e por conta disso ele precisou se mudar para um novo apartamento no conjunto residencial Acropolis, que foi escolhido por praticidade em três níveis, sendo eles a proximidade com a área onde ele trabalhava mais, por ser onde também seu amigo que lhe colocou no ramo morava e por fim, algo que ele não sabia bem dizer se era uma mágoa profunda ou um capricho pessoal, mas seu falecido melhor amigo dizia que seu sonho era morar em um lugar especial, e o complexo lembrava exatamente o tipo de lugar que Jihoon tinha em mente e portanto o sul coreano acabou se vendo com certa urgência em alugar um apartamento, mesmo que ele desejasse guardar dinheiro para que um dia pudesse viver melhor, afinal não é como se ele tivesse um bom plano de aposentadoria em seu atual ramo.

❝ It shouldn't have been possible. But it is! It was. This is definite proof that it had happened. Around four years ago in the middle of May, Sighting 9536 had appeared yet again. It stood within the middle of a clearing of the southern part of Copper Grove. That damned, white door . . . It had finally appeared once again. It was protocol to ignore it. After all, Sighting 9536 might be passive in nature, yet it bears dangers & horrors of unimaginable quantities. And thus, one must ignore it. At all times.❞ [ . . . ]

❝However, some tourists end up being too curious for their own good and so, I keep watch in front of it once it appears. For their safety, of course. It's my duty, after all. It stays for about 46 hours every time it appears. Why not two full days? I don't know. I stopped questioning the sightings within Golden Peaks & the logic they follow. In any case, I would remain stationed in front of it for those 46 hours in the middle of May. As always, I held my rifle, clutching it to my chest, expecting to shoo or scare away anyone who dared to come to close. It all seemed like the usual deal since I've taken this job up. But it wasn't. No. I think the Sighting, the Door felt . . . Maybe realized that I was there to dissuade anyone from entering. And in turn, it had responded. In the middle of May.❞ [ . . . ]

❝ The first 24 hours were like always; Nothing happened. It was easy to stay awake, simply because I'm used to sleeping only a little or not at all. I held onto my rifle with one hand whilst scrolling through my phone with the other — Like always. However, maybe I should have started questioning this particular situation when my phone just randomly decided to die on me. I still had 22 more hours to go at that point & only the sky & the forest to keep me company. ❞ [ . . . ]

❝ At the 30 hour mark, I was already starting to feel drowsy. That alone was strange on its own. I do not get tired that easily. 12 more hours passed & I started to feel how my grip loosened. On my rifle. On reality. Sleep was attempting to take me at this time. And it felt even stranger — Like a hand caressed my soul, ushering me into slumber with gentle yet empty-sounding whispers. I was getting more & more tired. I felt heavy. So incredibly heavy. But also . . . so warm.❞ [ . . . ]

❝ It must have been around the 45 hour mark when I felt something bump against my lower back. Immediately would my eyes flutter open. I had fallen asleep. I must have fallen asleep. But I didn't even remember falling asleep? Another thud against my lower back. It wasn't forceful, though. My mind yelled for me to turn around, check if the door was still there — if it still was, that would mean that no one had passed through while I was asleep. Another thud. I didn't even have to turn around because I soon heard a voice from behind me . . . ❞

❝ I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I couldn't believe what I was seeing once I looked up; The white door was cracked just a tiny bit, revealing the face of a middle-aged man clad in suit. At first, I thought him to be a hallucination. That this place was playing another trick on my mind. But as I continued to hold eye contact with that man, unable to see the interior of what laid behind that door; I felt it. That unnatural smile on his lips. Warm eyes, yet empty as they locked on my own. This wasn't a human who had managed to escape the anomaly. And yet, I would move out the way, letting him step through the door completely. I had only turned away for one moment but the door was already gone once I looked back. But he was still there. Smiling at me. Holding that damned briefcase. ❞

"I didn't know that I would be having a welcome committee. Say, Miss . . . What is your name?"

❝ I didn't answer, even if my lips & tongue moved on its own & wanted to respond. I was somehow drawn in by that handsome, strange man in front of me. I couldn't move. Couldn't swallow. Couldn't even properly breathe.❞

❝ I felt that grip on my soul again. But this time, it wasn't soothing. It wasn't warm. It felt ice cold.❞

Sighting 9536-B must be treated like its predecessor — He must be ignored at all times. Do not let yourself be roped in by his games. Do not even look at him. Just act like he doesn't exist and soon, he will leave. Or you had wished for him to leave.

Trivia

The man known as The Visitor does not seem to be bound by the laws of what human consider logical and real. He seems to be of omnipotent presence. His abilities are yet to be determined, although, they might be too vast to be properly documented.

The Visitor will often introduce himself as Kang Daehwan. It is unknown if that name is one made up by the entity or the former name of the body he currently possesses. It is not known if this body is his. But it is known that this is not what he actually looks like.

There are no records of a Kang Daehwan ever having lived in Golden Peaks. This means he is not a survivor of Sighting 9536.

See You in My 19th Life - Episode 10

And with this I will be all caught up again with this series. While I’m still upset with the changes, I would say I am still happy that I am watching this. It is perhaps not as good as the Webtoon, but I think that for someone who hasn’t read it, this might be very good and pleasant to watch.

I thought the beginning of the episode was just a replay of last episode, but it gave a little extra that wasn’t there earlier. Seoha offers a necklace and earrings set to Ji-eum. He finally asks her out and promises that this time he’ll stay by her side. Seoha is super worried when Ji-eum gets weak from her past life vision. Mingi is seeming even more suspicious than ever. I liked him better in the webtoon version. He was annoying, but didn’t feel creepy at all. Once he’s convinced that Ji-eum’s alright, they go to their hotel to spend the night. She dreams some more and. learns that she was Su and that the man that looked like Seoha was Hanya. She can’t remember the person calling her name in the dream though. Then she goes to Seoha’s room. She needs to get rid of her stalker habits, she doesn’t need to anymore. Seoha wakes up and lets her sleep with him. And I don’t know, but that’s really only possible in tv shows I guess. While I love cuddling my partner before going to bed, I can’t stand sleeping face to face and feeling their breathing on me. It’s disgusting. So how can they sleep so close to each other that their nose are almost touching. It makes me shiver just to think about it.

Aegyeong collapsed and Mingi calls Ji-eum to let her know. He seems very hostile to Seoha.

Daehwan guy tries again to humiliate Doyun, but he smoothly avoids it. Then Chowon gets mad at him for speaking out of turn. Daehwan guy definitely has his eyes on Chowon, but she’s too good for you man.

Mingi tells Hanna that Aegyeong is sick. He hopes this will help to convince Ji-eum. Also Hanna doesn’t have to remember her past lives anymore, she hands him back some sort of token sign. So he’s going to tell her what to do next.

Seoha received a box with files convicting Mrs Jang from fund embezzlements. She’s in deep trouble. He already spoke to his dad about it. He thought Doyun might have found those, but it wasn’t him. Obviously, it was Hanna. Anyways, the board agreed to dismiss her of her functions. And Seoha’s dad kicks her out. Now, can anyone tell me what’s the meaning behind gladiolus? Those are the flowers in the hotel and Seoha’s mom’s favourites. She mentioned the meaning of it, but we don’t get to hear what it is. Google says strength and integrity. Hanna says goodbye to Seoha and offers him a turtle keychain. Which is weird for him since he doesn’t know that she’s his mom. Though he kind of figures it out on his own.

Mingi tells Ji-eum that getting involved with people from one’s past life is causing them pain. She has to let go of those relationships. He also says that the answer to stop remembering her past lives is in her first life. She needs to remember everything. Else, everyone she reconnected with will meet the same fate Aegyeong. Because the surgery won’t save her. Please inset your favourite soft sweat word here. Now Chowon’s in her past life too. WHY? They totally changed her first life. I’m so upset with this. Chowon and Seoha both weren’t in her first life. That’s so annoying. Why did they change it to something so bad. Ugh. Mingi sends Seoha to Ji-eum while she’s remembering her sister being killed because of Seoha like guy. So she’s sort of possessed by her emotions and she tries to strangle Seoha. They really ruined. I’m going to finish it because there are two episodes left, but they did shit with this. Yeah, in the Webtoon too she tried to kill Seoha, but that wasn’t because he looked like the guy who killed her sister. And her sister wasn’t Chowon in her first life. I’m not going to say who it is, because I don’t want to spoil the Webtoon, but gosh this is so annoying. There’s no way to redeem this adaptation in my eyes now. They ruined the best part of it.

Anyways. We’ll know if Seoha will survive next week. Stay tunned.
