Who: Daisy & Melis @pcnsieves Where: St. Mungo's When: Blishwick Wing Grand Opening
Daisy felt like she was working two jobs tonight. She was there on assignment for the Prophet, but she was also there on Order business, and she was having a hard time reconciling the two. Was she thinking that everyone was suspicious because she was looking for suspicious people? Or was she looking for a story? She didn't want to be like Rita Skeeter, but she increasingly was feeling more and more like how she thought her brain worked, and it was a scary thought.
She had grabbed two bottles of firewhiskey, needing a break, and searched for a familiar face. She stopped when she found Melis. "Firewhiskey?" She offered the younger woman. "Are you enjoying yourself?" She asked her curiously. "I'm taking a bit of a break from my Prophet work. I feel like I've been talking to people for hours."

It was sad that it was necessary to have such a heavy Auror presence, but after everything that happened, she thought that it was for the best. "If that was the Ministry's goal then we can say that they succeeded," she agreed at the mention of just how many Aurors were there today. "I'm sure there are even more that are just...undercover as well. That's what I would do if I were in charge," she mused. Daisy thought that it was important that they have a presence, but she wasn't sure that it would deter the other side. If they wanted to cause chaos, she was sure that they would do it. "Maybe. They don't give promotions very often, but it would be a nice reward," Daisy laughed. "How has work been for you? I know you can't talk about it much, but it's been going okay?"
"That is true." She'd noticed almost immediately once she walked into the hospital how many aurors were here, far more than she'd ever deem necessary at something like this. But they had to be careful. "At this point, I'd wager there may be more aurors here than guests." And yet, that didn't put Melis entirely at ease. They had a better chance of being ahead of the game when compared to Samhain but still, people could be unpredictable. Especially ones who were as caustic and abhorrent as their enemy currently was. Basic decency said this would be off limits to attack at a hospital but that was assuming any of them cared about decency and Melis doubted that. "Well, that's good. All you have to do is suffer through droll conversation but at least you might get a promotion out of it."

Daisy could understand the sentiment of not wanting to come. She had been a little apprehensive about attending after Samhain, but she also knew that it was what those people wanted. They wanted them to be afraid, and the best way to beat them was to not show their fear. "You wouldn't have missed it for the world," she teased her lightly, smiling. "I'm sure the higher-ups here have done all that they could to make sure that nothing happens. It would be a bad look for them if something bad happened at their grand opening of the new wing. There are more Aurors present tonight than would have previously been according to Mr. Lestrange." Daisy wasn't so sure that that was enough, though. But what Mr. Lestrange didn't know was that the Order was also in attendance, ready to strike should something happen. "That is exactly what my interviews are like," she teased with a laugh. "No, I've just been getting a feel for their thoughts of the night. It's not the most riveting stuff, but my boss will be happy."
"Maybe I shouldn't have come." Melis lamented even though she knew there was no world in which she would skip it. One reason being Moody and having to be here, the other was a fear of missing out on something. Whether that was a fight or a good time, it didn't really matter. She nodded at her words, understanding at a base level that all journalists wanted a story to report on, some big headline to take credit for, she could wrap her head around that even if writing for the Prophet was one of the last things Melis would ever want to do. But she respected someone who did and did it with some kind of integrity. "I see that. I'd want something a little more exciting to happen but I suppose boring is good for this kind of thing." Smirking, she turned completely in Daisy's direction, sipping on her firewhisky. "What do you even interview them about for this? Whether they agree that giving the hospital money is a good thing?" She asked, laughing slightly at the idea of anyone saying no to that.

Daisy had attended plenty of these types of events over the years for the Prophet but they were always so tedious. She much preferred to be at home in her pajamas reading a good book. "That's how these things usually go, unfortunately," she agreed. "They're so boring." Until they weren't, that was. But Daisy was hoping that tonight went smoothly, and they could say that they had overreacted. She would much rather spend the night bored and everybody get to go home than the opposite. Daisy took a sip of her own firewhiskey. She was considering herself off the clock at the moment. "I think we all are hoping for a story," she agreed. "Some of us probably are hoping for more of a story than just a write up of the event. But I am off the clock for now, I think I've interviewed enough people for the night."
"Absolutely." Melis sighed, taking one of the bottles from her and taking a sip before even paying attention to what Daisy was saying. "I am enjoying myself, but I feel like there isn't a lot to do outside of eating and drinking and networking." And at this point, Melis felt like she was networked out, exhausted just waiting for something to happen while making small talk with people she saw all the time or never, it was pointless. If she had her way, she would only talk to her friends, drink a little too much free champagne and go home with someone to keep the party going. "That's right. I thought I saw Rita around here as well, I didn't realize they'd have so many people covering it." But it made sense, a balance on bias and all that. "If you've been working the whole time, you deserve a break. More than deserve it."
