samuel didn't really enjoy feeding in the woods like some animal. being alive as long as he was it felt barbaric to stoop down to this level, but he had to admit he wasn't being the most careful and since he liked his food fresh and from the source, he had to get a little old school. luring some pretty little thing into the woods wasn't very hard and he hardly saw anyone out and about in them at this time of day. so he figured his plan was pretty concrete.

even with his fangs neck-deep into his meal his senses were on high alert. so the simplest twig snapping had him carefully removing his fangs from the poor girl's neck and slowly turning around to a different beauty. she had this humming to her that made him curious, and while he should be more polite and wipe off the crimson that was dripping from his mouth onto his shirt, he figured he could make room for dessert so there was no need.

"what a nice day for a stroll, isn't it?" he said with a teasing grin, looking the woman into her eyes. "you have a beautiful smell to you, dear. almost...nothing like this woman next to me. do tell me; what's your secret?"

It would be a stupid idea, it would be quite possibly the most idiotic one that Sanem had ever had before in her life, and there was no telling what the outcome would be. But she needed to know where Alek was, or where he would be, and fast. For she had stupidly advised that that Senate should attempt another olive branch to the fey and the Lupo pack, and now she had been tasked with attempting such a thing. The forest that the pack resided in would be unapproachable, which meant that Sanem would need to find him outside of it, while he was out somewhere in town. But she didn’t exactly know the places that he frequented, aside from the lycan bar that she had no intention of going to. So when she saw Flora out on the streets, the idea to approach the lycan had sparked in her thoughts, and before she could second guess -- or rather, triple guess herself, Sanem approached the other, “Hi, you’re Flora, right? I don’t think we’ve had the chance to meet yet. I’m Sanem.”

I'm reading about how Israel, in the immediate aftermath of the 1948 Nakba, deliberately replaced olive trees and other indigenous flora with European plants. This ecological disaster, which is now proudly hailed under the banner of 'making the desert bloom,' was done to 'de-Arabize' the landscape, and to cover up - often with fast-growing European pine trees -the ruins of Palestinian villages that were destroyed by Zionists forces.

And I just need everyone to read this passage from Pappé, because the symbolism of what happened to those European pine trees in the desert speaks for itself:
