as someone who knows so many other people playing bg3 and romancing astarion (totally valid, he's hot af) i do love this blog bc i get to see so much gale love in the reblog tags. astarion has this beautiful character arc (or a devious dark turn) which i totally get is appealing, but i love the gale love. he's just this high intelligence, low wisdom nerd who's a hopeless romantic. the man is the poster child of "he would love you if you were a worm." although, i do think he would cast 'speak with animals' to try and figure out if you want to be a worm or not and go from there when it comes to a cure. if you want to be a worm, tho... he's all in. he'd make you a little terrarium and everything.

I, foolishly, at around 7, told my mother one evening that I didn't want to hear her say she loved me and goodnight at bedtime. I was "edgy" and wanted to be an adult and thought that that was childish and no grown up person would ever want that. And now, how I wish I had a recording of her singing any of the songs that she used to sing me to bed or to sing me awake. How much she showed she loved me in little ways that I didn't appreciate. I was only 21 when she died. I got, like, six months of trying to be her friend living under the same roof. I've had so many questions for her over the years and she just wasn't there. There's just this open hole in my life that will never be filled now. Even if I were to adopt a child, they wouldn't have grandparents they could stay the night with, and how could I conscientiously deny my child the experience of grandparents that I had?

I had a fucking fantastic experience as a child, even if there were no other children in the neighborhood to play with. But I was roaming in my grandparents' neighborhood that had a huge church parking lot and two parks and multiple kids until I hit first grade. Then all the other kids moved away and my grandparents took first hand interest in my life. I got a library card, I went fishing with my grandpa anytime he left after 8 o'clock cause I did not want to wake up. He taught me how to make bait and how to clean fish. My Grama taught me how to crochet and curl ribbon and sew. Papa took me to the library for books and Grama took me everywhere for any other craft and for garage sales. She got me my first calligraphy set.

I can't have a child thinking that I couldn't provide that so they wouldn't be able to access that. Yes, I would want my child in the backyard making stink bait so they could go catfishing that weekend. I want her throwing the ball that we attached to a fishing pole for me so I could practice aim, pitching or practicing tennis hits. I want my grandfather to tell her about all the birds that come to his feeders just like he did me, telling about the competition between the starlings and the martins.

But that's all gone. I don't go fishing, I don't even go outside enough to do regular maintenance on the house I inherited. I have no bird feeders or houses. I have no one my child could play checkers or connect four or have teach them how to play card games. My grandparents kept me many nights and would always read to me and scratch my back while I fell asleep. I was fucking spoiled, y'all.

And I will never willingly have kids because I cannot give all of that to them. I want absolutely everything I had for my children, except I would want for them to actually face reasonable challenges, because I did not face challenges til junior year of high school and that went badly.

(all mentioned children are hypothetical because functionally, I abhore children and will take any measure to not be around them. Wish them all the best, want everything for them. Do not want anything to do with them)

I know I'm on my second tiki drink but looking at the old tissue box I dug out of my dad's old van and Kleenex boxes used to have more in them. The old box says 160 2-ply and the new box allegedly contains 120 3-ply. Not sure they're noticeably thicker now. If you multiply the number of tissues by the number of "plys" you supposedly get 40 more plys with the new box. Not sure I believe that.
