bruce and danny being fuckign nerds together,,,, they are being the BIGGEST nerds. geeks. if you will
these losers are color-coding the most inane bullshit. they are making diagrams for things you've never even thought of. they are having the time of their lives
"what are you two doing?"
Danny, sitting criss-cross on a table, hunched over a spread of papers and a bunch of different jello cups, his back is gonna hurt SO much: color-coding jello
Bruce, sitting in a nearby chair, also criss-cross, scribbling on a graph paper: hm [agreeing]
Alfred, already exasperated and SO fond: may i ask why? and on what parameters?
Danny: we're basing it off which flavors are the most mentally stimulating and for which subjects :}
Alfred, SO fond: ah. i see.
Danny, snapping his head over to Bruce and leaning over: wh- no-- no. Buzz, I told you: lemon-flavored jello stays strictly in the 'smelling salts' category--
Bruce, still writing on the graph paper: mn. no.
Danny, nearly sprawled across his back, faux-outraged: strawberry is NOT good for math-- you fucken HEATHEN--! Give me that pen!
Bruce, did that solely to rile up Danny, now trying not to smile: hnm.
#danny fenton is not the ghost king#dpxdc#dpxdc crossover#dp x dc#dp x dc crossover#dpdc#blood blossom au#dpxdc au#i love them your honor. my babies. they're so lovely to me. they mean so much to me. they are the silliest ever#danny is happy to talk about science and weird ghost shit the moment he's comfortable enough to and bruce is happy to listen#he is also fascinated by this whole new field of science and danny is technically and literally the only expert#they are making diagrams and scales and rankings and tiers and bunch of other science stuff i dont know the names of for ghosts#danny. a nerd: do you wanna see the tier scale i made for ghost powers | bruce. also a nerd: yes#danny: do you wanna help me re-categorize the tier scale i made for ghost powers | bruce: y e s#danny: whatcha doing | bruce: hm... making a timeline graph for x murder | danny suddenly vibrating at the speed of light: c a n i h e l p#they are being nerds together. they are being SUCH nerds together. they're making scatter graphs for the transit system#they are cross-referencing the correlation between food regulation laws and the increase of rats in downtown gotham#danny is explaining the intricacies of the cardinal directions in the Zone to bruce because it works differently than in the mortal world#they're coming up with classifications for native ghost zone species and arguing over whether they could fall under mortal animal classes#and it comes with the extra challenge of GIVING these animals mortal names because soulhum isnt translatable or even replicable in the huma#tongue and danny doesnt have any mortal equivalents for the names and he cant speak soulhum thanks to the poison.#so he's trying to describe these animals he's seen in english and then come up with a name for them and THEN classify them.#bruce and danny are having a fucking BLAST. danny is so happy to get to talk to another science nerd about ghost stuff coz as much as he#loves sam and tucker. science is NOT their forte and they were never all that interested in figuring this stuff out with him. they tried bu#he could tell that they just werent as enthusiastic as he was about it. but Bruce is so fascinated and he's keeping up with Danny and its#so relieving. and Bruce meanwhile. mister 'learns everything' is fascinated and so interested in learning about this entirely new dimension#and its animals and creatures. and danny gets so excited talking about it to the point where he's practically glowing. bruce comes up with#an idea or a new suggestion and danny all but lights up bc he hadnt thought of it that way and that is *brilliant* it makes so much sense--#and even if he's wrong Danny is ecstatic to correct and explain *why* it was wrong. like he gets the train of thought but here's why its#wrong and what it is INSTEAD. like he's SO happy to share this with him he's all but floating to the ceiling.

Liberals of all sorts will confidently talk about what "indigenous peoples"* want in a way that makes it clear they've never studied a single anti-colonial movement in their lives. Like they can't conceptualise that the societies deemed "indigenous" are (by necessity of still existing) every bit as alive and part of the 21st century as any other people, instead preferring to think of them as nothing more than static museum exhibitions with any deviation from this being a lack of "authenticity". Nor do they imagine that resistance to colonising powers stems from the vicious destruction and exploitation these societies are invariably subjected to (by necessity of being classified as "indigenous"); rather they see it as a matter of idealistic preference for a "natural" and "primitive" life that leads them to resist the inevitable "march of civilisation" for its own sake
These sorts of foolish ideas are widespread, but groups will express them in more explicit terms than usual. Like Anti-Civs are really nothing more than the typical Liberal idea of the "Noble Savage" taken to a logical conclusion; if such people are so Noble then maybe we should aspire to Savagery. It's ultimately incredibly reactionary, whatever its adherents claim; a true progressive would reject the chauvinistic framing of "Civilisation vs Savagery" altogether
*nearly always as some sort of homogenous group, lacking meaningful variation both between societies and within them

The Villains Daughter
So! Years ago, back when the Justice League was only just starting out, only a year or two after their initial team-up, they had one of their biggest battles to date. A group of Extra-Dimensional Beings had burst into their reality, hellbent on destroying a Government Facility and the nearby small town in Illinois.
They barely managed to beat the Invading Army back, although the Government Facility and a part of the nearby Town had been destroyed in the battle.
Later, they would learn about what had happened. Apparently the Government Base, called a GIW Facility, had managed to finally Crack the secret to Interdimensional Travel a few days earlier. Unfortunately, they had opened a Portal into a Dimension known as the Ghost Zone, ruled over by a Tyrant King who wanted to enslaved all world under him. Their Breaching of the GZ had alerted the Tyrant King to the existence of their Dimension, and he had launched an immediate Invasion to try and take it over.
And the evidence supported this.
Wonder Woman shared Legends of her People, telling that their Founding Ancestor had fled the rule of a Tyrant King when she passed into the Afterlife.
Zatara shared his Magic Tomes, showing them passages detailing the horrific Rule of the Tyrant King of the Infinite Realms.
They even asked Boston Brand, the Deadman and resident Ghost about it. He hadn't been the the Ghost Zone in Years, but even he told them that he had personally fled the Tyrant King.
And they also learned that when the Tyrant King set his eyes on something, he did not falter on his Warpath to acquire it. The Tyrant King, Pariah Dark, would be back for their World, again and again.
And they needed to be prepared. This Battle was what kickstarted their true Commitment to the idea of a Team. They knew they could not defeat Pariah Dark alone, so they needed to remain as a Team.
But there was another thing that came about from the Battle.
While the JLA had been helping clean up, Wonder Woman came across a strange sight. A Baby had been left in the rubble of the GIW Building.
She asked around, investigated, and did all she could to find the babies parents. At first she thought that one of the GIW Agents had brought their kid to work that day, but their records indicated that none of the Agents had children of that Age. And Neither did any of the other workers who worked on the base, like the Janitors or the Kitchen Staff. And of they did, all of their children were accounted for.
She eventually came to the conclusion that the Baby must belong to somebody in the nearby Town, but that lead led nowhere either.
She finally came to the conclusion that the Baby's parents must have died in the Invasion, a very unfortunate but very real possibility. She was going to place her into the System, but over the course of her investigation she had grown fond of the Child.
She decided to Adopt the baby herself. She didn't know the child's name, so she had to come up with a new one.
"How do you like the name, Stella?"
The baby gurgled in delight.
...
Over the next decade of their Teams Existence, the Justice League had to fend off the Legions of the Ghost King's Army many more times. It seemed that Pariah had grown wise to the fact that they were the ones defending the Human Realm, as almost all of the later attacks were directed on them personally.
It made sense, they were the First Line of Defense against his Armies, if he managed to defeat them, their World would soon fall.
But they dealt with the attacks as they came. They had made it their mission to defend their Home from the Forced of Pariah Darks Army, and they would not falter now, or ever.
In the case of Wonder Woman, he Daughter had grown to be a fine little lady. Stella had eventually developed Powers similar to her mother, in that she could fly and had super strength, and had begged to be trained as a Hero.
And who was Diana to deny her Daughter her greatest wish? Over the next 5 years, Diana trained Stella in the ways of the Amazon's. Then, when Stella was 15, she had her join the newly formed Young Justice.
She made a great group of friends on that Team, and even started going by Ellie as a Nickname. Her best friend was by far Conner, though she didn't know why she felt such a strong connection to him? It felt like she could relate to him, but her situation was completely different?
Ah well, her Mom wouldn't mind having another kid, would she? She always wanted a Brother!
...
Meanwhile in the Ghost Zone, the Ghost King was getting anxious. After 15 years, his Agents in the Human Realm had finally managed to set up the Ritual needed to Summon Him into the Human Realm.
Who knew that accepting the Ghost King's Throne would bar him from entering the Human Realm through normal Means? He couldn't even use the Portal, he needed to be summoned or he simply wouldn't be able to leave his new home dimension.
But now, it was almost time. Just another year or two, and he would finally be able to enter the Human Realm. He would finally be able to Find Her. His Daugther.
Danny would finally be able to reunite with his daughter, Ellie.

"Law and Robin would know psychology" is a statement which one might be tempted to rationalize by thinking "yeah, that tracks, given their respective levels of education and intellectual maturity they would have likely studied the introductory tenets of psyc-" WRONG. They just spent a couple years each with Crocodile and Doflamingo which makes them both senior experts in the DSM-5 by way of osmosis.

Through extensive research (playing the Guardian route again) I have learned that Chance('s sprite) is taller than Jerry('s sprite)
Tumblr media
But what's this? Jerry is tilting his head in almost every pose. And he's much more turned in on himself, opposed to Chance being very open and dramatic
Conclusion: Jerry is secretly a beanpole. He's just constantly hunched over. I mean that drawer is very cramped
Okay, I just couldn't accept that Chance was taller. Jerry gives beanpole energy. Look at him. This sickly stalk of a man. The man I love <3

The Library of Congress (American) gives every literary author a single number for all their works originally written in one language, whatever pseudonym they used.
Seanan McGuire is actually in the schedule (the official list of what numbers mean what and how to make new ones; there are only a few literary authors in each category actually in the schedule) as Mira Grant.
Her number is PS3607.R36395. Let me break that down for you.
PS in American literature in English. (The Library of Congress is... very American.) (PS8001-PS8649 is the Canadian numbers for Canadian literature -- the LOC has agreed not to put anything else there.)
PS700-PS3626 is for works by a single American author who writes in English, literary critiques covering one such author or their works, and biographies covering one such author (this includes things like speeches, because the LOC defines "biography" expansively).
PS3600-PS3626 is for American authors who write in English and were first published in or after 2001, as well as all the other stuff about individual authors like that.
PS3607 is for American authors who write in English, were first published in or after 2001, and have surnames that begin with G. (Remember, McGuire is under Mira Grant.) (And all the other stuff about individual authors like that.)
PS3607.R indicates that the second letter of the author's surname is R.
PS3607.R36395 means precisely "The person who published in this language, place, and time under the name Mira Grant". The string of digits after the R was chosen to make that name file alphabetically in the Library of Congress' catalog with all the other authors. This contains books by and about Seanan McGuire.
Within that number, most of the individual books will have numbers that look like PS3607.R36395 E94 2016. This is a book by McGuire -- it's meant to be a first-edition copy of Every Heart a Doorway -- so the second "cutter" -- that is, the second set of numbers after the decimal point that begins with a letter, in this case E94, represents the title of the book. The date is the date of publication.
This means that the books will be filed alphabetically by title, and very much not in series order. (Sorry).
If someone else has written a book about Every Heart a Doorway, that will be filed right after Every Heart a Doorway, with a number that looks something like PS3607.R36395 E94333 2017.
You can see that this call number contains all of the Every Heart a Doorway's call number except the date. Right after E94, which represents the title, is a 3. This indicated that the book with this call number is about the book that PS3607.R36395 E94 indicated. The next two 3s represent the beginning of the name of the author of the book about Every Heart a Doorway. (We're pretending this is a book by Nina Baym, who was a scholar of American literature and women's writings, but died in 2018.) Then 2017 would be the date of publication of the book about Every Heart a Doorway.
Remember that all the works by and about Seanan McGuire have to fit in PS3607.R36395. That means that some second cutters can't be used to represent the title of an individual work. If the number is PS3607.R36395 DATE, it's a collection of all of McGuire's works (or all the ones in a specific genre). You probably won't see this until she's dead, which will hopefully not be soon. Collections of some of McGuire's works will be in PS3607.R36395 A6 DATE. If it's in PS3607.R36395 ANUMBER DATE, and the number starts with a digit smaller than 6, it's a translation. If it's in PS3607.R36395 Z458 DATE or later, it's a criticism of McGuire's work as a whole or a biography of McGuire. (Note about Z458 or later -- cutters behave as decimal numbers, so Z46 is "later"  than Z458.)
Thanks for coming along with me on this journey! If you're ever poking around an academic library that uses LC classification, I hope some of this is helpful.

Yeah, it's annoying when people try to uncritically apply the Dungeons & Dragons taxonomy of wizard versus sorcerer versus warlock versus whatthefuckever in literally any non-D&D context, but at least we don't have to deal with that guy on the Steam forums who goes around hassling every developer who uses the word "assassin" in their promotional copy in the apparently genuine belief that "assassin" means like the guy from Assassin's Creed.

these moments stick out to me because the characters speaking this dialogue are both presented as very much the "voice of reason" in their respective scenes. not necessarily "good" or "right", because the silt verses doesn't deal in such simple, dichotomous terms, but a comparitively sensible and level-headed presence to the other perspectives and voices we hear from. and yet they still cannot help themselves from casually, almost instinctively, dehumanising the subjects of their statements in order to make their points. both are actively in the presence of someone who their disregard for their humanity touches - wharfing in particular, because he is in fact trying to help the hallowed girl who is one of the very prisoners and sacrifices he's talking about - but fail to see the cognitive dissonance between their actions and intentions and their words. it's just such a powerful implicit point: the rot of dehumanisation and objectification poisons everything it touches! nobody is immune to internalising its rhetoric in a society that upholds it as reason and truth!
