Her mind rang with one thought over and over again, she needed to get out of here. She hadn’t moved from her desk since he hung up, too busy thinking about everything he had said, too busy trying to convince herself that it was just a dream and she would wake up soon.
She grimaced when she felt the stickiness of her socks, peeling them off to reveal small cuts littered across the bottoms of her feet. She poorly bandaged them, just enough to make it through airport security and not be questioned.
She grabbed her suitcase, wincing with each step she took as she shoved clothes into it. She would’ve been moving out of her dorm and back in with her parents next week, but seeing Jack couldn’t wait.
It was nearing an hour and a half before her last-minute flight to New Jersey was set to leave, and she all but rushed to her Uber, climbing in and staring out the window hoping the driver would get the hint that she wasn’t in a chatty mood.
She mumbled a ‘thank you’ to the driver, making a mental note to tip him well once she was able to. She went through security smoothly, giving her best fake smile and trying to make sure her energy was positive enough not to cause any suspicion or alarm.
Stepping onto the plane and settling in her seat, she realized the small sliver of good luck the universe decided to throw her way today was the fact that nobody was sitting next to her. She put her headphones on and listened to a podcast the whole flight, though she wasn’t paying attention to any of the words spoken.
゚+*:୨୧:*﹤
She had gotten in what seemed like a 20-minute nap, one that supplied her with enough energy to get her luggage and make her way to Jack’s apartment. She had scrolled through her texts, way far back to the beginning of September to retain his address, it had been a while since she visited Jack.
The Uber ride was quiet, much like the one she took back in California. The driver didn’t say anything about her lack of energy and the tear stains that had reappeared on her cheeks. She counted each tree they passed, keeping her sight on them until they were too far gone for her to see each one.
If it wasn’t for the slight jerk her body did when the car came to a stop, she wouldn’t have registered the fact that they had made it to Jack’s apartment building. She climbed out of the car, her suitcase in tow and he said a quiet goodbye to her driver before making her way up to his floor.
Her knock was soft enough that she wasn’t even sure she did knock, but the sound of footsteps and the lock unlocking proved her wrong. A mop of hair appeared in front of her, messy as always. Jack ran a hand down his face, blinking rapidly to clear his eyesight.
“Jacky.”
Her whimper pulled him into full consciousness, eyes opening wide as he took in her appearance. He scanned her from head to toe, everything from her rumpled sweatshirt to her worn Converse she had thrown on. When his gaze made its way back up to her face, he saw the tear streaks down her cheeks.
“Chlo…” He pulled her into a hug, listening as she broke down for the umpteenth time since the previous night.
Bringing her into the apartment, he dragged her suitcase in one hand and closed the door with his foot, leading her toward the couch. He allowed her to collapse, taking him with her as they settled onto the cushiony surface.
He didn’t say anything else, simply letting her cry it all out as he ran his hand across her back, trying to bring her the comfort she needed. Each sob she let out made his heart crack and his anger grow. He hadn’t seen her this upset since she and Hayden broke up; somehow, it was worse now than it was then.
Eventually, her sobs turned into hiccups that turned into sniffles. She stilled, letting all her thoughts rush back into her mind as she stared off into the distance. Crying had seemed like a brief distraction from the cluttered mess that was her brain, allowing her to let her emotions out.
Jack breathed a small sigh of relief as her breathing steadied, taking in the quiet and tense atmosphere her silence had brought on. He didn’t pull away or make her look at him, just pressed a kiss to her head before speaking softly, “What happened?”
She shook her head, blinking away new tears. She didn’t want to think about it, let alone talk about it. Plus, how was she supposed to tell her brother that his friend broke her heart? That’s right, she couldn’t. She couldn’t be the one who ruined the friendship because she was naive enough to not only let herself fall for him but to believe that he reciprocated the feelings.
“C’mon, Chloe. Talk to me.”
She bit her lip, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath. Maybe she could just tell him without letting him find out who she was talking about.
“He hurt me.”
Those three words were Jack’s heart’s tipping point, he could physically feel it break into two pieces, right down the middle. He had had to sit through a conversation like this before and he hated every single second of it. And if he was honest, it did not get easier the second time around.
“Who?” Jack’s voice was calm, cool, and collected, but Chloe could easily make out the sharp undertone in his word.
When he didn’t get an answer, anger flashed in his eyes. Not at her, of course, he would never be mad at his sister for some guy, who probably didn’t matter, breaking her heart. She deserved the world, especially after everything she had been through.
He could tell she didn’t want to talk anymore, however. So he helped her sit up, smoothing out her hair as she wiped at her face, trying to rid the evidence that she was crying. He placed another kiss on her head before getting up, getting a glass of water in the kitchen before coming back and kneeling in front of her, helping her grasp the glass.
She took small sips, letting the cool liquid ease her sore throat from the harsh sobs she had let out minutes prior. She got halfway through the glass before she rested it down on her knee, avoiding meeting Jack’s eyes as she looked anywhere else.
“I’m tired.” Her voice was rough, somewhat gravely, as she declared her exhaustion.
Her brother nodded, taking the glass from her and reaching out his hand. She took it, standing up and following him towards the small guest room his apartment had. The two stopped in the doorway, Jack holding both her water and her suitcase as her eyes trailed over the plain furniture.
“I- Can-”
He recognized her stammering as panic, nodding his head in response, “C’mon.”
He then guided her towards his room, allowing her to go into the bathroom to change so he could straighten up the bedsheets and throw stray dirty t-shirts into his laundry basket.
Chloe stared at herself in the mirror, noticing the tears that she hadn’t been able to wipe up before they dried, her bloodshot eyes from rubbing at them too much, her still messy hair that they couldn’t get to lay flat, her wrinkled hoodie. God, she looked like a mess.
She fumbled around with her hairbrush, untangling the knots in her hair harsher than usual. The same went for as she brushed her teeth and washed her face, her actions more forceful than they needed to be.
She placed the washcloth down on the sink counter, staring back up at her reflection. While the makeup had washed off easily and her hair had been restored to its natural state, she could still see the red in her eyes.
She shook her head, silently cursing at herself to stop thinking about it. He made up his mind, and she should move on from that. But the tiny voice in the back of her mind couldn’t let go of what they had, what they could’ve been.
She changed out of her clothes, relaxing into the pajamas she had haphazardly thrown into her suitcase before leaving. When she took her socks off, she was met with the sight of red bandages, ones that she had completely forgotten about.
She searched Jack’s cupboards, looking for a first-aid kit that she knew he had somewhere in the apartment. She was relieved when she found it, that meant she didn’t have to tell Jack about this until tomorrow.
She mimicked the poor bandaging process she had done earlier, slipping her socks back on before she shuffled out of the bathroom, making her way over to where Jack sat, typing on his phone, no doubt texting his parents or his coach.
He looked up when he heard the soft click of the bedroom door and he softened once he saw how tired she actually was, “Hey.”
“Hi.”
“I texted mom.”
She froze even though she had known that he would do so, “Oh.”
“I didn’t tell her anything, just that you flew out here and showed up tonight. She tried asking but I figured that was something you should talk to her about.”
Chloe nodded, sliding under the sheets and resting her head against the pillow. Jack followed suit, placing his phone on the nightstand before facing her, pulling the comforter up to just beneath his chin, “I have a game tomorrow. Do you want me to stay here?”
“No, I couldn’t ask you to do that.”
“You’re not asking, I’m offering, Chlo. Do you want me to stay here?” He repeated.
She sighed, nodding. The thought of having to stay in Jack’s apartment, one that she had barely visited and had only been in for less than two hours collectively, didn’t seem appealing. Add on the fact that she was in a city she didn’t know, she wanted Jack here and even though she wanted him to go and play, she couldn’t help but let herself be selfish just a tiny bit.
“Okay. I’ll text coach in the morning.
With that, she slowly drifted off to sleep, leaving thoughts of the day behind.
゚+*:୨୧:*﹤
Jack woke up to sounds coming from the bathroom, something clattering against the tile. He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, raking a hand through his hair as he sat up. His eyes found the purple suitcase and that’s when last night's events came rushing back to him.
He was quick to make his way over to the bathroom, knocking softly, “Chlo? You okay?”
“No.” Her voice was laced with tears, and he was pretty sure she was on the edge of breaking once again.
He was about to ask if he could come in when he heard the door unlock and more things clanging against each other. Walking into the bathroom, he saw his sister leaning up against the wall, feet out in front of her, and all the previous effort of trying to make it look like she wasn’t crying was for nothing with her tear-rimmed eyes and messy low ponytail.
“I need help.”
He gave her a curious look, one that would’ve usually made her topple over with laughter at how stupid it was, but this time it just made a tear fall down her face.
She motioned to her feet and Jack finally saw what she was talking about; small cuts that wouldn’t have been visible if it weren’t for tiny amounts of blood lining them. They covered a majority of the balls of her feet and the heels as well.
“What happened?” His voice was high and squeaky, kneeling to take a closer look.
“I broke a picture frame yesterday,” she hiccuped, trying to keep the tears at bay. “I kind of stepped on the glass.”
“Kind of? Chloe, your feet are littered with cuts! I think you did more than just step on glass.”
“Jack, please. I don’t want to talk about it.”
He sighed but nodded. If she didn’t want to talk about it, he wouldn’t make her. He moved to grab the first-aid kit that she still had sitting open on the ground next to her, cleaning up the cuts and placing gauze on her feet before wrapping them up.
“You’re lucky you didn’t have to go to the hospital.”
She just gave a small huff of acknowledgment before continuing to watch him bandage her feet, much better than both her previous attempts. And once he was done, he looked up at her, a frown tugging at his lips, as she mumbled an ‘I’m sorry’.
“You don’t have to be sorry, for anything. You’re my sister, if you need me I’ll be there, even if it’s the middle of the night and I’m, I don’t know, in Switzerland-” Chloe couldn’t help the small laugh that escaped her causing Jack to smile, “Wherever I’m at, I’ll be there. I promise.”

Jack and Chloe flew to their parents' house once the Devils’ season concluded. When they arrived, Chloe was taken into her mother’s arms and they spent most of her first day there watching cheesy rom-coms and laughing about dumb things while eating their favorite foods.
After that, Chloe was sure that she felt better about the whole situation, that she had moved past it. But most days, she found herself curled up in her bed, rewatching White Collar and letting her thoughts consume her.
Luckily, she was never alone. Most of the time, Luke and Jack took turns spending the day with her, trying to help her out of this funk she had found herself in. And while she loved that her brothers were there to take care of her, she couldn’t stop the feeling of longing she had for the comforting presence of her older brother.
Quinn’s season had been slightly longer than Jack’s which caused him to fly home about a week later, only being briefly caught up on everything that had happened. He hadn’t even stepped through the door of the home when Ellen started ushering him up to her daughter’s room, whispering about how much Chloe needed.
He opened the door, stepping into the dimly lit room. It was late, nearing 10, and the only form of light he had was the soft glow that came from her koala night light that he had gotten for her 6th birthday and her laptop that was sitting on her legs, playing the theme song of her favorite show.
The laptop illuminated her face but he couldn’t really see her, just the hood of her hoodie that was pulled as far down as possible while still letting her see the screen. She was holding a thing of ice cream, going in between eating large bites and bites that contained mostly air.
It was only when he kneeled onto the bed that she noticed he was there, eyes snapping up to meet his gaze and it seemed like all the emotions she had been struggling to keep in for the past eight days finally broke free, tears streaming down her face as Quinn brought her into a hug, head buried into his chest.
He closed her computer, placing it on the nightstand followed by removing her ice cream from her hand and setting it next to it. Her cries didn’t last long, though, dying out a mere couple minutes later. The emotions she had built up seemed to not be a lot in hindsight, maybe she had really cried herself dry back in New Jersey. Or maybe the sadness she had thought she was keeping down was anger instead.
All Quinn had to do once she stopped crying was ask what happened and words were tumbling out of her mouth, him struggling to keep up. He tried his best to retain every single little detail she mentioned, from the words he had said to the clothes she was wearing when it happened.
Halfway through her rant, she had let his name slip from her mouth, all too caught up in her rambling to notice. Yet, the look on her older brother’s face caused her to stop, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion as she saw something that resembled fury shine in his eyes. It was then that she realized that she had said Trevor’s name.
It had been 13 days since she said his name, 13 days since she even thought about his name. Sure, she had pictured him vividly - light brunette messy curls, bright smile, light brown eyes staring back at her -, and thought about how his voice sounded both before and during the phone call, but she had never once gained the courage to think his name.
Quinn knew, one look and that’s all it took. He knew, no matter how much they both thought they were being sneaky. He couldn’t let her see the argument he was creating in his head, one that even if he wanted to yell at the top of his lungs, he wouldn’t. Because even though they had broken up, he could see how deeply Chloe cared for him, and hurting him would only make her hurt worse.
He shook his head, giving her the signal to continue on her rant and the promise that he would ‘forget’ that piece of information even though they both knew he wouldn’t.
Once she had exhausted herself both from crying and talking, Quinn laid beside her, continuing to watch White Collar with her. And before the episode was even over, she was asleep, her mind finally quiet for the first time in weeks.

Addressing the sweetestdesire situation !!
ꪆ୧ more screenshots are under the keep reading!
This morning i received an ask on anon regarding Brynn, also known as sweetestdesire. Informing me of her plagiarizing other people’s writings. (I completely agree what anon has expressed, it is completely wrong what she did)

With further research I clicked on all the links and saw that her posts (the copied ones) have already been deleted, so I can’t say nothing regarding those links for sure. But one of my friends on here has also received an ask just like mine, just with different links/fics.
I cross read them and you can notice immediately that Brynn had copied them almost word to word, down below are some screenshots proving it!
(BRYNNS THE ORIGINAL )
* TAKE A HIKE (TITLE FOR BOTH )
* CAUGHT IN THE ACT (COPIED) LAST FIRST DATE (ORIGINAL)
* A FRIEND IN NEED (COPIED) THE PROPOSITION (ORIGINAL)
* ANGRY INSIGHT (COPIED) SORE LOSER (ORIGINAL)
As you all can see, it’s clear that she had stolen from these writers, which is completely unacceptable and wrong. I’m not making this post to bully Brynn, I just want people to know the truth and understand what has happened, and the original writers deserve to be known as the actual writers of these stories.
That being said I have reached out to brynn outside of tumblr when I noticed that she had deactivated her account! I won’t share our conversations out of privacy for her. but I did bring this up to her, she knew what she was doing was wrong, and she apologizes. I asked her if she had anything she wanted to me to tell everyone, this is it.
“Please let everyone know that I do apologize for just deciding to pussy out and just run away from the problems rather than come clean about everything and give a much needed apology. I shouldn't have done that and I shouldn't have done everything else that I've done. I don't know if I'll come back, but as of right now, I don't see that happening because I don't feel as if I belong on there or wanted for that matter. I fucked up and I take full responsibility about everything and if I could take back everything, I would”
I want to say again that I completely agree with the anon, plagiarism is wrong! I apologize if this seems rushed (it is) but I believe that people deserve to know the truth, however hard it is!
Again, I want to make it clear that I am not making this post to bully, or be rude in anyway!
This is mostly all the information that I have on the matter, if anyone has any questions feel free to message me or send an ask!

౨ৎ ANNOUNCEMENT !
Hi everyone! This is for everyone who wants a more in-depth reasoning as to why I'm leaving Wondrluv and what the future holds for my blogs. You, by all means, do not have to read all of this; it's a lot of words that you'll probably get tired of reading, but if you're curious, here are all my thoughts and goals for the blogs.
For starters, there are two main reasons as to why I have decided to make a new blog. The first reason is that with everything going on, I haven't been able to enjoy being on Tumblr, and I would like to keep that all in the past.
The second one is because of writing. I haven't been able to write as well as I want to, post as much as I want, or enjoy it as much as I want to. So I'm hoping that editing my fics and getting back into it slowly will help me find my love for writing again.
My fics will eventually be reposted here. I will start posting them on Monday!
There are some fics that I will not be reposting on here, whether that's because I no longer write for the player or because I do not like them and have no interest in editing and rewriting them.
Those fics are... my mat barzal ones, my landon slaggert one, not him - trevor zegras, hate - the hughes brothers, and it's happening again - jamie drysdale.
I will also try to post an au fic every day, all of the current au's have their master posts and info posts drafted and ready to post sometime tomorrow!
For wondrluv, I still plan on keeping it up as an archive for my au's and some of my fics. My archived au's will have all of their posts still up, nothing is totally changing with those.
The asks from all my current au's are still up, and a link can be found within their master post.
Moving onto wondrstruk, it will continue to be my library blog for everything I have written and all of my recs (blogs, fics, and au's/series).
I hope you all will continue to support me here. I'm not changing, I will still be the girl who yaps way too much about hockey and other sports, who crashes out over athletes, who gives too many life updates and is chaotic with her mutuals, I'm just under a different user.
If you have any questions, never hesitate to reach out to me, whether that's through my messages or my inbox. Everything below this post, are all my main blog posts, masterlists (both player and au's) will be up later today (5/31)
I hope everyone has a great day, and I look forward to seeing you guys in future posts <3

She arrived at the Hughes’ an hour later than she had wanted to, Trevor having left on time compared to when she did. She knocked softly on the door as she waited for someone to answer, looking around at the greenery that surrounded the house. She rocked back and forth on her heels and then the door opened and the familiar face of her brother came into view, “Phi! You’re here. What took you- hey you okay?”
She blinked rapidly, trying to get rid of the tears that were starting to form once again, “Yeah. Um, I just- don’t say anything, okay? I don’t want to ruin his day.”
Trevor frowned, opening his arms for her. She all but dove into them, letting her small sobs escape. They heard footsteps quickly after that and she pulled away, turning around to wipe her tears before looking to see who it was, “Hi honey.”
“Hi Mrs. Hughes, how are you?”
“Anxious, of course. But come in, come in. Can’t believe Trevor was just making you stand out here.” Ellen ushered her inside and Ophelia laughed a little at her words, poking fun at her brother, “Yeah Trevor.”
He rolled his eyes, placing a hand on her back in comfort when he noticed the far-off look in her eyes. While he wanted to know what was wrong and what had made her fall apart in his arms, he respected her wishes of not wanting to ruin Luke’s day. He watched as she conversed with his best friend’s mom before walking away to find Jack again.
“Do you want a glass of water, sweetheart?” Ellen asked gently, turning to one of the kitchen's counters with cups on it.
She toyed with the small gift she had in her hands and nodded, “Yes please.”
After a few moments, the older woman handed her the class causing Ophelia to move the box into her other hand, “Thank you.”
“Oh, what’s that?”
Ophelia took a small sip of her water, “Just something I made for, Luke. Um, actually, have you seen him?”
Ellen went to speak but her eyes trained on something behind her and immediately, Ophelia knew who was behind her. She turned around excitedly and stared up at him, “Lukey!”
Luke brought her into a hug which she returned, Ellen leaving the two in the kitchen, “I’m so glad you made it.”
She handed her his gift and moved to hold her cup with two hands, “It’s really nothing but I wanted to do something for you anyway.”
He smiled at her, “Open it now or later?”
The girl shrugged, “Whatever you want.”
“Luke!” Both of their heads turned to where Jack was standing in the living room, “Come on. It’s almost time.”
“Later it is, I guess.” He took a deep breath, running his hand through his hair nervously.
Ophelia placed one of her hands on his arm, “It’s going to be fine, Luke. No need to worry. Now, let’s go get you drafted.”
He chuckled and wrapped an arm around her, leading them both into the living room. Luke sat next to his brother and Ophelia made her way to stand at the back with Trevor, watching everyone else in the room. She had left her glass in the kitchen, not wanting to have to hold it in case she dropped it by accident. So instead she toyed with the sleeves of her cardigan, her hands not knowing what to do with themselves otherwise.
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“Brett broke up with me.” She mumbled softly.
Trevor’s eyes widened as he looked down at his younger sister, “He what?”
“Shh.” She looked around as multiple people eyed them from where they were standing, “Can we talk about this later?”
“No, we cannot talk about this later.” Trevor grabbed her arm and dragged her down the hallway to Jack’s room.
“Why are we in Jack’s room?”
“Because it was the closest place I could talk to you alone. Now why did he break up with you?”
“He was mad that I haven’t been spending time with him lately.”
“Oh, that’s such bullshit. He knows you’ve been busy.”
“And he thinks that Luke and I shouldn’t be friends because we hang out too much.”
“He said that? What a dick!” Ophelia nodded and sat down on Jack’s bed, hands underneath her.
“I’m fine. It’s fine.”
Trevor eyed her carefully, sitting next to her and wrapping an arm around her shoulders, “Phi, you’re not fine. I know you more than you think I do.”
She immediately broke down at his words, “I thought he loved me.”
“Phi…” He ran a hand through her hair, lightly toying with the ends of it. He frowned slightly but then heard cheering from the living room and the two broke out in a small run to reach the crowd.
Ophelia smiled slightly as she watched Jack and Quinn hug Luke, followed by his parents. Fourth overall, she couldn’t have been prouder of her best friend. She stood in the back, where she had been previously standing before she left, awkwardly fidgeting with her fingers. She made conversation with anyone around her, waiting for Luke to finish his interviews and other things he had to do.
When he was done he made it his mission to find his best friend. Looking through the rooms, he eventually found her in the kitchen, filling up her cup with more water. He wrapped an arm around her shoulders as he came to stand next to her, “Couldn’t find you anywhere.”
“Well, here I am. Congratulations, Lukey. Not for finding me but for the draft”
“Thanks, Phi. Now about that present…”
She giggled, looking up at him, “You can open it.” Luke jumped up in excitement, dragging her to his room much like Trevor had done earlier.
He sat down on his bed and pulled her down next to him, wasting no time in unwrapping the present, “You wrapped it nicely.”
She shrugged and watched his reaction carefully, “I hope you like it. It isn’t much, really.”
“You got me a book>” She shook her head, “Open it dumbass.”
And he did. He flipped through the pages, not one uncovered. They all had pictures of the two of them, ones from her softball games, ones from his hockey games, and ones from them just hanging out. Some had little notes on the page, others had just the date of when the photo was taken.
Luke smiled, “It’s amazing, Phi. Thank you.” He gave her a side hug, still flipping through the pages.
“Of course, Luke. You deserve it.”
A few minutes passed and then he looked at her, “Hey, are you okay? I noticed you were crying earlier.”
She cursed to herself before nodding, “Yeah I’m fine.”
“Phi, come on. Don’t lie to me.”
She sighed, “Brett broke up with me.” His eyes focused on her, “What?”
“Yeah, he um… he didn’t like that I wasn’t spending time with him and- never mind.”
“No, tell me the whole story.”
“He yelled at me for hanging out too much with you.”
“He didn’t.”
She just nodded and looked at the floor. He frowned and brought her into a hug, tightening his hold on her as much as he could. She allowed herself to break down for the second time that night, but this time it wasn’t because of the breakup. She had promised herself she wouldn’t ruin this night for him and that’s what she did.
“I’m sorry.”
“For what?”
“I didn’t mean to ruin your night, and now you’re here consoling me when you should be out there talking to your family.”
“Phi, you’re just as important to me as anyone else is. And you didn’t ruin anything.” He pulled her face away from his chest, tucking a piece of her hair behind her ear.
She gave him a watery smile, grateful for his words, “Okay.”
“Come on.”
She watched him confused as he scooted back against the headboard and opened his arms, “Come here.”
Luke smiled as she curled up into his arms and he wiped the tears on her cheeks. He reached over for the remote and turned the TV on, “What do you want to watch?”
“Are you sure you shouldn’t be out there with your family?”
“I don’t care. My best friend just got broken up with so we’re going to watch stupid romcoms and pig out on food together.”
“Thank you, Luke. I’m so happy you’re my best friend.”
That broke his heart a little bit, knowing that he was always going to be her best friend. He smiled at her, nodding, “And I’m happy you’re mine.”

Gabe had all but thrown himself into hockey these past few weeks. If he wasn’t in class, he was at the rink, if he wasn’t doing homework, he was at the rink, if he wasn’t eating, he was at the rink. It had seemed like the only thing in his life that he could control right now and he was going to take advantage of that.
This had been the longest time he had ever gone without talking to Will, two weeks. It had been two weeks since he had blown up at Mack with his boyfriend and girlfriend watching, two weeks since he’s fucked up the most important thing in his life, and two weeks since he’s felt like he’s lost two of the most important people in his life. Two weeks of nonstop hockey and nights that consisted of 3-4 hours of sleep if he was lucky.
Will himself couldn’t think straight even when he was at the rink. The words he said were engraved in his mind, closely followed by words he had heard. It was all beginning to overwhelm him. Which made ignoring people seem like the safest choice, he wouldn’t fuck up any more than he already had and nobody could get mad at him for doing something, so that’s what he did.
He felt guilty each time he swiped away a text from Molly, each time he declined an invitation to hang out with Mack, each time he had said no to a team dinner or celebrating a win. Still, that guilt slowly just became another numb feeling he had, one that he shoved into the back of his mind.
Molly, on the other hand, has had two weeks of nonstop worrying and annoyance. If it wasn’t Will she was worried about it was Gabe, if it wasn’t Gabe it was her grades, if it wasn’t her grades… well it was legit anything else that the universe had decided to throw at her just to fuck with her. And she, quite frankly was over it.
She had spent a great deal of time sending text messages to her boyfriends, most of which went either unseen or unreturned. And if she was lucky enough that they had replied, it was a short and to-the-point text that consisted of ‘I’m fine. Have practice in an hour, talk later’ to which, they never really did talk later.
She was starting to lose her mind at this point, if the two of them couldn’t figure this out on their own and wouldn’t accept help to figure this out, she wasn’t sure what that meant for the three of them. She wasn’t sure if this would be the end of them. Maybe she was being dramatic, but she had a right to be when Gabe and Will stuck her in the middle of their drama. She wasn’t about to pick sides, but it sure was a hell of a lot easier to get Gabe into shape when he was just down the street.
゚+*:୨୧:*﹤
The rink was colder than she had remembered, she hadn’t stepped foot in one since the fight, too many memories that she didn’t want to recall. She wrapped her jacket tighter around her, navigating through Conte Forum like it was her second home.
The sound of skates on ice and sticks against pucks welcomed her as she got closer to where Gabe was in the middle of the ice, shooting pucks relentlessly at the net. When she found out he had been here, she hadn’t really been shocked, it was the same answer she had been getting any time she texted one of his teammates or stopped by his place.
After the tenth shot at the net, she called out his name, halting his movements. She could see the way his body went rigid when he heard her voice, watching as he shook his head before going back to shooting as if he had only imagined it.
“Gabe, please. Talk to me.”
He ignored her, continuing his movements. Despite knowing she could get in trouble by walking with her street shoes over the ice, she did it anyway, making her way towards him with slow movements, trying not to fall. It took her a minute to reach him, stopping him just as he lined up to take another shot, hand resting on his shoulder, “Baby.”
Her touch, or the nickname, caused him to stop completely, resting his stick by his side and head dropping down to look at his feet. The way he turned around to face her was like he was physically restraining himself from doing so, but her gentle touch and soft coaxing voice made him cave quickly.
He still avoided her gaze as he came to a stop after turning around, looking quite literally anywhere but her face. He let her take his hand in hers, let her press a kiss to his cheek, let her eyes wander over his body searching for any signs of injury or exhaustion (which he knew she found plenty of), but when her fingers gripped his jaw, he did not let her turn his head.
“Don’t,” He tried to make his voice sound stern and forceful, but it came out weak and cracked like he was gasping for another breath of air.
“Look at me, Gabe.”
He had to admit, she had done a much better job of making her voice sound stronger than he had. His eyes finally trailed over to her, crumbling as soon as their gazes met. She watched as tears brimmed in his eyes, reaching up to rub her thumb across the dark circle underneath one of them. He hadn’t allowed himself to cry since that night, and her bringing him into a hug made him break down fully, stick clattering to ice as he practically went limp in her arms.
They stayed like that for a while, Molly’s hand in his hair and his arms wrapped around her waist as best as he could. The hoodie he was wearing felt so baggy on him that he was sure he had lost some weight over the past weeks, but that was just another thing he would worry about later.
When he finally calmed down enough to pull away and wipe his tears, he could feel the cold seeping into his bones, shivering slightly as he removed himself from her warmth. She gave him a small smile, bending down to grab his stick, “Let’s go back to mine, yeah?”

A nice hot shower and a change of clothes later only made Gabe feel marginally better, but it was progress. That was what he told himself as sat on her bed, feet dangling off while watching her ruffle through draws until she found two Wii remotes and turned to him with a grin, “For old times sake?”
“Yeah.” He reached for one of them, moving over so she could sit next to him as he watched the Mario Kart screen load, clicking buttons until the character selection screen popped up. His cursor hovered between Mario and Luigi before he finally clicked on Luigi.
The hesitation caused a slight crack in Molly’s heart, maybe she was expecting him to pick Mario, he always argued with Will over whether or not who was who until he gave in at one glance at Will’s puppy dog eyes and let him pick Mario.
She clicked Donkey Kong, her favorite character for some unknown reason but she played as him every time and she had no intentions of stopping now. She let him pick the first course, and she wasn’t surprised when the familiar opening to DK Summit popped up. No matter how many times they played, they would always do the same order; DK Summit, Luigi Circuit, Mario Circuit, and then Rainbow Road, which they can all confidently say that they haven’t gotten first place yet, but it’ll happen… one day.
They played for the next hour, doing the same four courses over and over again, as they sat in silence beside the music and sounds of the game. When Molly crossed the finish line of Rainbow Road for the fifth time, she set the remote aside, looking over at him, “Ready to talk?”
Everything in Gabe’s mind screamed no, but for the first time in a while, he felt like he could breathe without sending himself into a panic attack. While one small step at a time was good for some people, he just wanted to get it all out of the way as quickly as possible. Why stop when he had so much motivation?
He gave her a small nod because even though he was ready to talk, he wasn’t sure how to start. She took his controller from him, setting them both on her desk before climbing back up on the bed. She smiled when his hand reached for hers, letting out a sigh of relief that went unnoticed by him.
“What did you say?”
He closed his eyes for a minute, a little piece of him still trying to figure out if there was a way out of this but he quickly realized that there was no turning back. So taking a deep breath, he started talking, “Told him that I was annoyed with Mack being around all the time and that I thought he was trying to steal-”
He cut himself off, just the thought of Will’s name made his stomach churn. She nodded, “And what did he say?”
“Told me I was a child, was acting like a spoiled kid who wasn’t getting his way, and that I wasn’t trying to be friends with Mack, but he’s right I wasn’t.”
“You weren’t, yeah. But that doesn’t mean he also had to discredit your feelings.”
“But-”
“Gabe, let me tell you something. You have every right to feel how you feel, how you feel is appropriate to feel, I am a strong believer in that. But that also means that Will does too, and maybe it’s time that both of you start seeing it from each other’s point of view. This is not just a one-sided thing, both of you were wrong and both of you were right. Both of you said harsh and mean things, and both of you didn’t say a lot of things you wanted to say.
“There is more to this than just you being jealous and Will being frustrated. There are many layers and it is going to take time to go through every single emotion you and him are feeling, but I know you love him and I know he loves you, and I know both of you would take the time to talk it out.”
Her words raced through his head, trying to cling to every single piece of information she was saying. It made sense, he knew that. He knew that there were things he could’ve said, maybe should’ve said but didn’t. He knew that Will’s words were right but also harsh.
“He won’t even talk to me.”
“And how do you know that? Have you tried texting him?”
“No.” He mumbled, pink coating his cheeks as he lied. He had reached out to him but didn’t want to voice that Will hadn’t responded out loud. It would make the rejection all too real.
“That’s what I thought. I am not saying that you have to put more effort in than he does or vice versa, but maybe that’s what he needs to know you’re serious about this.”
Gabe bit his lip, that sounded like a good idea, but what could he do to make it up to him? He wasn’t about to send him a shit ton of flowers or gifts or fly to California with a script of words he wants to say, for two reasons. 1. He wasn’t the type of person to do that and 2. Will deserved more.
“Maybe you could… I don’t know, talk to Mack? Apologize, tell him you want to be friends, and move past this.”
He did feel bad for what he said, that was never okay and he knew it as soon as the words left his mouth but anger clouded any form of judgment he might’ve had in the moment. The past two weeks had given him time to reflect and he knew every negative feeling towards Mack had felt wrong and unjustified.
Will had never given Gabe a reason not to trust him, so the moment he said Mack wasn’t trying to get with him he should’ve believed him. And he should’ve seen the blatant attempt of approval Mack was seeking every time he would talk, or try to talk to him. He knew he was a jerk, a dick, every single synonym on this planet for ‘dumbass’ and ‘asshole’ was what he would use to classify himself right now.
He would apologize to Mack, he would make it up to Will and Molly, and he would make it up to himself. Well, the first two were objectively more important, he could get around to making it up to himself.

The next day Gabe sat with Molly in the student center, Gabe anxiously fiddling with his phone as he deleted and added words to his ongoing apology to Mack and Molly sat with her knees tucked into her chest, planning out a new film idea for class.
She looked up at him, eyes growing fond as she saw him, “It doesn’t have to be perfect, baby. Why don’t you just start by texting him hi, I don’t think Mack really wants to get out of practice to see over 200 words of you rambling.”
“Oh ha ha, you’re so funny. You should be a comedian if being behind the camera doesn’t work out for you.”
“Actually, I think I’ll make it my part-time job, but I have two years to figure that out. Plus why would I need to be a comedian when I’d have two rich NHL boyfriends?”
He stared at her, looking back down at his phone, “Yeah if I haven’t scared one of them off already.”
Her smile had turned downwards, a frown across her face now as she reached out to hold his hand, “He still loves you.”
“I know I just-” He fiddled with his phone case, pulling the corner off before putting it back on. He wasn’t sure how to express the doubt in his mind, if that was even what he could call it. Maybe if he denied the feeling long enough it would just go away and he wouldn’t have to deal with it anymore.
“That’s another thing you have to stop doing.” It was like Molly could read him from the inside out and he didn’t know if he was supposed to be grateful or terrified about it.
He glanced up at her, “Doing what?”
“Shoving everything to the back of your mind. I know you don’t always want to share what’s going in that head of yours, but that’s what we’re here for.”
We’re. She said it so casually that it dug into him the slightest bit, he didn’t deserve Will’s obsessive worrying and him caring about him, not after everything he said to him.
He looked back at his phone, swiping into his text messages to send Mack a ‘hi’ like she had told him to. She was right, she always was, but he wouldn’t tell her that in fear of her ego inflating more than it already was.
When he clicked send, he placed his phone down on the table, watching her as she continued going between writing things down and editing footage on her laptop. He had missed being in her presence, he shouldn’t have shut her out, she did nothing wrong to deserve it and he and Will had placed her in the middle of them, again.
“I’m sorry.”
She looked up, pushing her glasses onto her head as she fully abandoned her work now, “I already told you you didn’t need to apologize-”
“Not for the fight, I mean yes but- fuck. I’m sorry we put you in the middle of us, you shouldn’t have to deal with us both being grade-A assholes and shouldn’t have to choose between us. We’re your boyfriends, not your friends who are fighting over you. And for shutting you out these past couple weeks, I should’ve come to you and talked to you but I just- I felt like I wasn’t allowed to, or at least that’s what my brain was telling me.”
He trailed off, unsure of how to continue his apology. When he looked back at her, he saw the soft expression on her face and knew that he said enough, or at least enough for her to grasp what he was trying to say, and at that moment, he knew at least the two of them would be okay.
゚+*:୨୧:*﹤
It wasn’t until Gabe and Molly were at lunch that Mack responded to him. His phone lit up with the notification and Molly was the first to notice it, nodding her head towards the device. He opened the phone to see the text, it was just as short as he had been, a simple ‘Hey’. He was surprised when another text came through quickly after, ‘Everything okay?’
He should’ve expected it, he had never texted Mack on his own accord. Scratch that, he had never texted Mack, period. If he needed something from Will and he wasn’t responding he would make Molly text Mack and ask if he was asleep.
Molly watched as her boyfriend’s face went through the five stages of grief before she talked, “What did he say?”
“Asked if everything was okay,” Gabe murmured, setting his fork down and taking his phone into both hands, staring down at his lap.
“Just send your mini essay. It’s going to be fine, Gabe. I promise. Mack understands already, trust me, he would want nothing more than to put this all behind him and actually be friends with you.”
He nodded, but that was it. She went back to eating as he copied and pasted his rant from his notes into the message bar. After rereading it 10 times, he thought it was decent enough to send, it wouldn’t make up for the countless times he had ignored him and what he had said the other day, but it bridged the gap in their soon-to-be friendship.
He put his phone back down, shoving it under his leg, knowing Mack would spend at least two minutes reading everything he had spilled to him made him anxious. He took a bite of his food, trying to continue his conversation with Molly in the meantime.
゚+*:୨୧:*﹤
If Gabe had a dollar for every right thing Molly had said today he wouldn’t need to sign an NHL contract to be a millionaire. Okay, maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration but it was true, she had said so many right things today that he didn’t know why he didn’t listen to her in the first place.
He had spent that last hour texting Mack about random things and becoming friends after Mack had written an extensive text about how he wasn’t totally upset but was grateful for his apology. Maybe they were more alike than he thought they were.
However, the distraction Mack was providing slowly faded away when he got his newest text from him, ‘Have you talked to Will yet?’
Thankfully, Molly had been next to him when he got the text and gave him a comforting smile, “Would it be easier to talk about it out loud?”
He nodded, yeah she knew him too well. So Molly called Mack from her phone, propping it against her pillows as the two sat on her bed, waiting for him to answer. His face lit up the screen seconds later, and from the space behind him, he was in his apartment.
“Will’s not here,” his voice was soft as he got himself comfy on his bed. “He went out with some of the guys earlier.”
Molly’s hand wrapped around Gabe’s, giving it a reassuring squeeze that urged him to talk, “I sent him a few texts, sometime last week but he never responded and I haven’t tried since.”
“You did? I thought you said you didn’t.”
“I did, but- it’s not important right now, Molls.”
She gave him a hesitant nod before turning her attention to Mack, “I send him a couple a day, only replies with short answers, can’t get much out of him.”
“Yeah he doesn’t talk much but he acts like everything’s okay. I know the team knows something's wrong, Logan’s tried to get him to go out with them and this is the first time he accepted it.”
“I don’t know what to do.” Gabe’s voice was small, like a child who was admitting that they broke their parents' beloved vase. “If he won’t talk to me, and he’s barely talking to you and Molls…:
“I think you guys should come out here, this weekend. I know you got a game Friday so I guess after that or Saturday? You could come to the game and then you can talk it out, plus it’s our last game before Four Nations so then he could always go back with you guys.”
The two thought about it, it did sound like a good plan. But would it work out, the two had no clue. No risk, no reward. The thought echoed through Gabe’s mind. He knows he said he wasn’t the type of person to just fly out spontaneously, but that was before he apologized to Mack.
“We’ll be there.”
゚+*:୨୧:*﹤
When they stepped into SAP Center, their nerves heightened. Even though Will was however many feet away from them they felt as if he just knew they were there, and that made unease flow through them naturally.
Gabe had spent the past few days preparing for what he was going to say tonight, and even now he still didn’t know what he was going to. But once again, that was a thought for later, all he wanted to do right now was enjoy watching the game and enjoy having Molly by his side as she had for the past week since she set him straight.
Despite what he told himself, he did think about what he was going to say almost the whole game, during play, during intermission, during timeouts, it was a constant battle of trying to watch the game as he typed away on his phone.
“You know, if you keep stressing about it, it’s only going to make it worse. It might not be as bad as you think it’s going to be.” Molly’s voice cut through all the screaming and cheering after Toffoli scored a goal.
He only answered when the crowd settled again, “I know. Kind of hard to convince my mind of that though.”
“Trust me, I know it is. But sometimes you have to override that thought, Gabe. It’s not going to get easier if you don’t stick up for yourself against yourself.”
“Are you sure you shouldn’t be a writer or some shit?”
“Yeah, almost failed English in high school. Which is why I just come up with the ideas and let my friends write them. Not my strong suit, I just work the camera.”
He gave her a half-smirk, “So you’re the behind-the-scenes guy?”
“Mhm. Always plotting.”
“M’sure you are.”
More cheers rang out and the two turned their attention to where a group of blue jerseys swarmed together on the ice, the clock had ticked down faster than they thought it would, faster than they wished it would.
They sat, watching as most of the fans made their way out of the arena and back to their cars. By the time they found the will to move, only half the arena’s seats were still filled and they were both sure it was just to watch the interview that was happening on the ice.
Will had gotten first star of the game after two goals and two assists, beaming as brightly as he could. The two could tell from where they sat that there was dimness in his eyes, tightness in his voice as he spoke to the interviewer, and stood with a tense figure as he tried to make it through.
It was nice to hear his voice, it was the first time they heard it in person since that day, strictly relying on old voice memos and videos if they wanted to hear it. They hadn’t realized how much they loved getting those from him until they stopped.
They got up out of their seats once he left the ice, making their way down to the tunnel to wait for him. Mack was the first to come out and both of them couldn’t help the disappointment that covered their face when they didn’t see the usual blond mop of curls trailing behind him.
He gave them a small smile once he saw them, bringing Molly into a hug and giving Gabe whatever weird handshake thing boys usually did. Molly let herself smile at the interaction, it was just a step closer to working everything out, and she was proud of him for it.
“It’ll probably be a few before he comes out, he’s just been sitting in there after games until he absolutely has to leave and then he’ll start getting ready to go.”
Gabe let out a low hum in acknowledgment, eyes fluttering back to where he knew his boyfriend could walk out at any minute. Then they fell into an easy conversation, mostly about what they had been doing the past few weeks and other random things that had come up.
“Mack didn’t know what a date was.”
“Like going on a date or…?”
“You two I swear to god. The fruit!”
“Oh. There’s a fruit?”
Will wasn’t sure if he was dreaming or not as he turned the corner, stopping when he caught sight of the three who were laughing about something he couldn’t figure out. Blinking steadily, he pinched himself on the wrist and when the small burst of pain shot through him, he knew for a fact that his girlfriend, his best friend, and his boyfriend were all talking and having a good time like nothing had happened.
He was sure he was angry, but again he didn’t know what he had been feeling these two weeks, everything he felt would just turn numb in the hours after he acknowledged it. He gained the courage to walk the few steps towards them, closing the gap.
Molly saw him first, biting her lip and falling silent as she looked at him; dark circles, eyebags, exhaustion, everything was the same as when she saw Gabe earlier in the week. Gabe and Mack didn’t take long to recognize her silence, following her gaze to where Will stood, clad in his suit and hair wet from the quick shower he took.
“They flew out this morning,” Mack’s voice was soft, like every other time he had tried to speak to Will since everything had happened.
He gave a brief nod, letting his eyes go from Molly to Gabe and then back to Molly and back to Gabe, before settling on his friend again, “I’m ready to go.”
Both Molly and Gabe’s hearts cracked at his cold tone, feeling as if he didn’t care that they were there. Mack placed a handout, stopping Will from walking any further away from them, “Hear him out please.”
“And you know what he has to say?” He kept his volume low, trying not to let the emotion that flooded his voice show.
“He texted me earlier this week, Tuesday,” Mack started, he hadn’t told him about his conversation with Gabe and Molly, or at least until now. “Apologized, for everything. And then we just talked. He really is sorry Will. I don’t think he would’ve reached out to me if he wasn’t.”
Will took in the information, trying to process it but it just floated around in his head like a fly he couldn’t catch. When he looked back over to the two, his tone had softened but he still kept his guard up, “You coming?”
゚+*:୨୧:*﹤
The car ride to Mack and Will’s apartment was all quiet, no one spoke as turns were made and lights were passed. They pulled into the parking lot of the apartment complex, sitting in heavy silence for a few minutes before getting out of the car.
Molly and Gabe took the stairs while the other two rode the elevator up. They got two flights of stairs in when Molly murmured, “It’s going to be okay, we’re going to be okay.”
“Mhm, I know. Or at least I hope I do.”
They reached their floor a couple of minutes later, walking out of the stairwell to see Mack and Will deep in conversation with each other. It didn’t take long for them to notice the two, letting them follow them to their apartment.
Mack stuck his key in, turning and unlocking the door before pushing it open and letting the three step inside. The four kicked their shoes off and then just stood there awkwardly. Frustration grew in Mack’s head before he eventually was over Gabe being too scared to admit his wrongs and Will being too stubborn to let him speak, “Okay. I’m done with this.”
Eyes fell on him but he ignored their stares and wrapped a hand around both of their arms before leading them towards Will’s room and shoving them in there, “Do not come out until this shit is fixed. You two aren’t the only ones suffering because of this.”
Will and Gabe turned to Molly who stood there nervously, fiddling with her hands and rocking back and forth on her heels. They softened simultaneously, Mack was right, they had put her through enough and it was time they fixed that and made it up to her, but they couldn’t do it without talking it out with each other first.
The door closed and left the two alone in the confines of Will’s bedroom, hoodies and shirts were lying on the ground, takeout containers shoved in the overflowing trashcan, and a heavy, musty smell took over their senses.
“Sorry about the mess.” Will started picking up shirts and throwing them in his laundry basket, his need to stress clean overwhelming him.
Gabe’s hand grabbed ahold of his wrist, stopping him from moving, “Don’t do that, not now. Please.”
He didn’t face him, not yet, staring at his crumbled sheets from when he didn’t even attempt to make his bed this morning. He felt Gabe’s hand move down to his hand, lacing their fingers together. That was when he turned, looking over his face and seeing the tiredness that was written over it, he was sure it matched the tiredness on his own.
He gave him a nod, allowing him to go on, “I’m sorry- I know I’m sorry doesn’t fix anything, let me speak, please.”
Gabe knew that when Will opened his mouth he was going to let out something along the lines of ‘sorry isn’t going to cut it’, he always did. He guided him to sit on the bed before he sat next to them, keeping their fingers intertwined.
“I know what I said was wrong and hurtful, I never should’ve said what I said to Mack and I never should’ve said what I said to you, even though I did mean it, a little bit.” Gabe’s thumb started absentmindedly running over Will’s knuckles, a habit he had gained whenever he had started to become restless or anxious, “And while I am sorry about how I chose to… display my feelings, I’m not going to apologize for how I felt.
“For a while, it was easy to pass the feelings off as jealousy and whatnot but the more and more the two of you hung out and the more and more the two of you were in videos together, I think it made me realize how much I missed just having you as a teammate and how different it was not to have you around.
“You’ve never done anything to make me feel like you would cheat on me or whatever and I should’ve recognized that a lot earlier. I also should’ve acknowledged you’re point of view on this. I know Mack has been there for you since the beginning of the season and I know how much he means to you and I shouldn’t have let my feelings and insecurities get in the way of your friendship.”
He took a deep breath, unsure if he had said enough or if he should keep going. But before he could let his mind spiral into more thoughts and choices, he heard Will’s voice and the soft squeeze of his hand, “I’m sorry too.”
Will was overcome with emotions from Gabe’s apology and honestly, he didn’t even have to say all of it to know he meant it, from the moment he found out that he had reached out to Mack on his own accord he had forgiven him, maybe even before that.
“I know that no matter what I say is going to live up to that,” the two let out wet chuckles before he continued. “But I am sorry for saying that you were acting like a child. I also should’ve seen things from your perspective and I didn’t, and it probably would’ve made a lot more sense if I had.”
He let himself reach up to run a hand through Gabe’s hair which made him instantly melt into his touch. He listened as Will continued speaking but most of the words fell deaf upon his years. He should be listening, he knew that, but he was just so grateful to actually talk to them that the topic at hand didn’t really matter.
Meanwhile, Mack and Molly sat in the living room where Molly was critiquing a shitty movie he had put on, it was one of her favorite stress-relieving tactics.
“How’re you holding up?”
She sighed, nibbling on her bottom lip, “Okay.”
“You’re not.”
“I know.” She curled her knees into her chest, fidgeting with her earrings, “Do you know how hard it is to make two 19-year-olds speak to each other?”
Mack laughed, bringing her into a side hug, “Do you know how hard it is having to deal with a mopey and frustrated Will?”
“Probably the same as dealing with an insecure and guilt-ridden Gabe.”
They heard the click of the door, heads snapping towards it to see the two walk out of the bedroom still hand-in-hand. When she saw it, she smiled and let out a sigh of relief, making her way over to them. She brought them into a hug, her grasp firm, “Please tell me you two are okay.”
“We are sweetheart,” Gabe’s hand brushed the strands of hair that fell into her face behind her ear, pressing a kiss to her head, “We are.”
“I’m sorry we put you in the middle of this, we never should’ve done it and-”
“If one of you apologizes to me one more time, I’m seriously going to lose my fucking mind more than I already have. And if you two ever and I mean ever fight like that again, I’m breaking up with you.”
Will nodded, kissing her temple, “I don’t doubt it, sweet girl. I don’t.”
Mack stood from the couch, making his way to his room to give the three their privacy. He only made it halfway before a call of his voice stopped him in his tracks, turning to see Gabe staring at him. He raised his eyebrow in question, “Yeah?”
“Thank you.”
He just nodded in response, continuing his trek to his room. Will watched the exchange before looking back down where Molly stood, bringing the two of them closer together. At that moment, for the first time in two weeks, all three of them knew that they were going to be okay.

“Lu, I’m not so sure about this.”
“C’mon, sunshine. This has been on my bucket list since I found out I was getting called up.”
“Skating with me? Baby we’ve skated together before.” Ophelia looked down at Luke, who was kneeling in front of her, tying skates onto her feet.
“Not just skating, you idiot. Skating here, in front of the Tree.”
Ophelia’s gaze wandered over to where the Rockefeller Tree sat, in all 74 feet of its glory. Her eyes seemed to focus on every single light it was adorning before she looked back down at her boyfriend, “M’just nervous. You know what coach would say if she found out.”
“Well, it’s a good thing she won’t.” He patted her thigh, standing up and holding his hands out for her. She slid her hands into his, using them as she got up from the bench, leaning her head against his chest.
He wrapped his arms around her, one hand playing with her hair and the other across the small of her back. He kissed her temple, murmuring against her hair, “I would never let you fall, you know that.”
She blushed and nodded, grateful for the cold that surrounded them which already made her cheeks pinkier than normal. She used Luke’s hand as a guide as they stepped onto the ice, mind racing with thoughts about how horrible this idea was. Coach would surely kill her if she found out that she got injured going ice skating, especially if she knew that she had thought it was a bad idea and did it anyway.
The thought scared her more than she liked to admit, tightening her grip on his hand even as she fell into the rhythm of skating. Luke looked at her, pride shining in his eyes as she was skating on her own, barely needing him as support.
They skated around the outside of the rink, Luke playfully shoving her in the slightest bit, sending shockwaves of fear through her before she shoved him back, which only resulted in him laughing.
“You know, you’d be a shit hockey player.”
“And you’d be a shit softball player, I think we can call this argument even.”
He grinned, simply spinning her into his arms as they came to stop just short of the exit. Ophelia’s cheeks were still just as flushed as they were before, pink dusting her cheeks and her nose turning red. He wrapped his hand around both of hers, letting them rest between their chests.
She took a deep breath, staring up at him, unable to look away. This would mark their first Christmas as a couple. Sure they had spent plenty of Christmases together since they first met, but this was different, of course it was. She wasn’t sure what he had in store for the two of them when she first flew out to New Jersey, but it certainly wasn’t this.
Luke leaned in, kissing her softly, as they were passed by by a multitude of people who were for sure giving them looks for just stopping in the way of their paths, but neither of them could find it in them to care. She thought this was worth the risk of her injury, if it meant staying like this with him for a little while longer.
When Ophelia pulled away, her forehead rested against his, a shy grin making its way onto her face as she noticed the tips of Luke’s ears turning pink from the cold. Luke smiled back at her, pulling her along to the exit and sitting her down on the bench, repeating his actions that he did before; bending down and untying her skates, placing them beside her as he did the same with his own.
“What’s next on your itinerary, Luke Warren Hughes.”
She giggled at his groan, walking down the street as she cuddled closely into his side. He gave her a soft glare, “What’s with the middle name?”
“Nothing, just like to annoy you.”
“Well in that case, I guess you won’t be getting any hot chocolate.”
“What-” She was quick to pout at his word, protesting softly, “Noooo. I want hot chocolate.”
“Gotta make it up to me sunshine,” he tapped his cheek, looking down at her expectantly.
“Ass.” She muttered, but leaned up to kiss his cheek anyway.

Sitting in the hotel room with Cole, Chloe watched the TV as she waited for the Ducks’ game to finish. Of course, it had to start only an hour or two before her album came out. Yet, with all the rumors and theories flying about, something was happening in two hours, so if it was more music, she would have to only wait at least another hour after that. That she could do.
Trevor rushed through the door, his suit haphazardly thrown on and wrinkled, bag thrown over his shoulder, clothes spilling out from the broken zipper. His hair was messy and damp from the shower he had taken after the game, and his eyes were wild as he looked around them.
“I tried to get out sooner, but media is a pain in my ass.” He dropped his to the ground and walked over to where his girlfriend sat on the bed, placing a quick kiss on her forehead, “How’re you doing?”
“Good.” She murmured in reply, gazing up at him with big eyes, tiredness evident in them.
Cole came out of the bathroom, tugging on his shirt to loosen it slightly. When he looked up, he gazed at the proximity of two of his best friends, eyebrow raising slightly, but staying silent, flopping down on the bed opposite Chloe’s.
“I’m just gonna go change, okay?” He spoke softly, his words more directed at the girl in front of him than his other friend, sidestepping to make his way to the bathroom, digging clothes out from his bag beforehand.
Cole shot Chloe a look, “What was that?”
She tilted her head, giving him an innocent look, “What was what?”
He rolled his eyes at her casual dismissal, throwing his legs onto the bed and laying back against the pillows, pulling out his phone to scroll through Instagram. On the other hand, Chloe tucked her legs underneath her, sitting criss-cross on the bed, pulling the sleeves of her hoodie down to cover her hands.
Her hair was tied back into a ponytail, one that looked effortless but in reality she had spent hours this morning perfecting it. She was in one of her favorite light grey sweatsuits, it was one of the comfiest things she owned, plus she looked cute in it so win-win for her.
It only took a few minutes for Trevor to change, stepping out of the bathroom also adorning light grey sweatpants and a black t-shirt that hugged him tightly. She cast a quick glance at Cole to see him still occupied by whatever was on his phone, looking back at Trevor and letting her eyes travel from his arms down to his thighs, groaning internally. Leave it to Trevor to be attractive at the most unconventional time.
He took his spot behind Chloe, leaning against the headboard and throwing up his pair of socks, watching them as they fell back down, catching them with ease. When Cole had still yet to notice his presence, he motioned for Chloe to duck so he could throw the socks over at him, the boy jumping and dropping his phone, “Asshole.”
“Alright boys stop fighting. I want to listen to Taylor.” She grabbed her phone and navigated to her music app, turning the volume up as the beginning notes of Fortnight made their way to their ears.
Throughout them listening to the music, Chloe couldn’t help the thoughts of her and Trevor’s relationship that filtered through her mind. She made a note on her phone, one filled with the lyrics she related to tell Trevor about later when they weren’t accompanied by Cole’s presence. ‘Now I’m down bad crying at the gym’ ‘My bedsheets are ablaze, I’ve screamed his name’ ‘Lights, camera, bitch, smile. Even when you want to die’
Soon enough, the album ended on the very last notes of Clara Bow and the three of them held their breath, exchanging wide-eyed glances. Chloe silently moved to look at Instagram, seeing a glaring post from Taylor, reading it out loud, “It’s a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. Oh my god, you have got to be kidding me.”
She wasted no time going back into her music, finding Taylor’s profile, and clicking play on ‘The Anthology’. And much like before, the beginning notes of The Black Dog made their way to their ears and they sat in complete utter silence.
Not even two songs into the album, Trevor and Chloe heard Cole’s snores and they let out soft chuckles. Taking this as her sign, she laid back, placing her head into her boyfriend’s lap and grinning up at him, “Hi.”
“Hi.” He reached down and toyed with the ends of her ponytail, replicating her smile.
When another snore echoed through their hotel room, Trevor quirked an eyebrow, “Should we wait for him?’
She shook her head, too excited to wait longer to finish the album. So the two continued to sit in silence as Trevor played with hair and she tapped along to the beat with her fingers. And not long after, the two of them each fell asleep, curling into each other as they did so.
゚+*:୨୧:*﹤
It was 9 in the morning when Cole woke up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes, and sitting up, throwing the covers off him. His eyes adjusted to the sun that was filtering in through the blinds that he had forgotten to close the night before.
He shook his head somewhat aggressively, trying to clear the slight layer of sleep that coated his brain. When he was finally able to blink his eyes open enough to see clearly, he stuttered at the sight he was met with. Trevor and Chloe were cuddled up next to each other, Trevor’s shirt was now discarded on the floor having taken it off just before he fell asleep after Chloe. Her hair was splayed across his chest, her ponytail falling sometime during her sleep.
At first, he blinked rapidly trying to comprehend the scene that was happening in front of him, and then he saw a glint of light reflecting from Trevor’s chest. To anyone else, it was a simple thing and could really mean anything. However, he knew that necklace. He knew it like the back of his hand. Every day for years at least, When she saw her, Chloe would be wearing that necklace.
Slowly, the dots started to connect themselves, the summer of ‘21, the summer Chloe rarely came out of her room, the summer Trevor was distant from everyone including Jack, their best friend. Chloe’s album coming out on Trevor’s birthday, the matching heart-shaped necklaces. Chloe was dating his best friend, and Trevor was dating his best friend. What the fuck?
“Holy shit!”
The volume of his words caused Chloe to sit up straight, running her hands through her hair and over her eyes to get herself to wake up and assess the situation. But before she could even think about asking what the danger was, Cole’s voice came out in a whispered hush, “You’re dating Trevor? Trevor’s dating you?”
Her eyes snapped open, wide as ever, like a deer caught in the headlights. Reaching over, she hit her boyfriend in the stomach who groaned and mumbled, “Baby? What?”
She cursed to herself and at her boyfriend’s lack of awareness, hitting him harder, “Trevor wake the fuck up!”
He sat up lazily, a slightly dopey expression covering his face as he looked between his girlfriend and one of his best friends, “Hey guys. What’s going on?”
“Cole knows.”
“Oh good for him.” He threw his shirt on, a minute passing in silence, “What does he know?”
“You’re dating your best friend’s sister?!”
That was all it took for the haze in Trevor’s mind to vanish, a look of horror now on his face, “What? No, of course not. Why would I ever-”
“Give it up, Trev. It’s hopeless.” Chloe groaned, flopping back down on the bed, listening to Cole freak out a few feet away from her.
“What? How? When? … Why?”
Trevor started to explain to him everything that had happened in the past four years, from the day he asked her out to the day he made the phone call to the day they got back together. All of it fit together in Cole’s mind like a jigsaw puzzle he hadn’t been able to solve in years.
When the last words tumbled out of Trevor’s mouth, Cole swore he never felt such anger. The Summer of 2021 was one of Chloe’s darkest times, one of the times when even Quinn couldn’t get her to smile. He had suffered through those days with her, watching movies on end, listening to her cry, helping her clean her room. He was there through it all. And to have learned that one of the people he was closest to, one of the people he had spent his summer also with, caused that? He was beyond pissed.
“You fucking asshole!”
“Cole calm down man.”
“No you hurt her, do you understand that? She couldn’t even go to the fucking bathroom without crying. I was there and all the while you were just nervous that Jack was going to find out too? Because breaking up with her wouldn’t really hurt you would it?”
Trevor’s eyes widened as he listened to what the other boy was saying, thoughts reeling in his mind as he spoke. He hadn't thought he was going to get this angry about it, sure he knew Cole and Chloe were close but he thought that after he explained what happened between them, it would be okay.
“Cole-”
“No no, shut up. I don’t want to hear another word from your mouth right now.”
“Cole, listen to me. I know that was a hard time for me, okay? And Trevor knows that too, we’ve talked about it. Do you really think I’d be sitting here defending him if we hadn’t talked through everything? If he hadn’t apologized profusely and made it up to me?”
Cole’s eyes wandered over to his best friend who was now standing up next to him, reaching for his hand. He allowed her to take hold of his hand, relaxing immediately at the soft tone of her voice, “We’ve worked it out, I understand where he came from and he understands that he was wrong. And I know he still feels horrible about it.”
He nodded, practically mindlessly as he looked between them, “Okay.” His voice was hushed now once again, “But only if you promise everything is okay now.”
“Everything is okay now, I promise.”
A few minutes passed in silence, everyone going back to where they were sitting before. Chloe spoke up again, hesitantly, “But if you could do us a favor and not tell Jack that would be great.”
“You still haven’t told him?!”
“Well… no. We will eventually… maybe when I go on tour.”
“You kill me sometimes, Chlo.”
She laughed, “Just think of it this way. What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas.”

It’s only been a week since Gabe and Molly had last seen their boyfriend, and they were already missing him like crazy. The two weeks they were able to spend with him - cuddling 24.7, going and watching Gabe’s games, playing Mario Kart - were the best two weeks the three have ever experienced. But now, Four Nations has ended and the season is back in full swing, finishing the last two months before playoffs.
The same could be said for Gabe, after playing three games since Will went back to San Jose, it’s finally his last one of the season, or at least for the regular season. Molly has shown her endless support for both of them, sporting both her Perreault and Smith jerseys like they were permanently attached to her, but she knew that both of them wanted the other two to be there too.
Which is why, Will convinced his coach to healthy scratch him from tonight’s game so he could watch Gabe’s final game of the regular season and cheer him on from the stands. It had taken a lot of talking and a lot of persuading but Will pulled it off and now here he was, sitting next to Molly in Conte Forum as they watched BC play Merrimack, both of them wearing Gabe’s jersey proudly.
Will had always been one for surprises, whether it was the one surprising someone or the one being surprised, it seemed to be a constant thing in his life and this was just another one to add to the list. He had planned to tell his boyfriend he was coming, but holding out the little piece of information was worth seeing his face.
“I can’t believe you’re here.” Molly’s voice was soft but he could recognize it anywhere.
Will turned to grin at her, kissing her head, “Me neither, but I’m so happy I’m here… with you.”
As much as the three loved spending time together, they enjoyed the little moments that were shared just between two of them. For Molly and Will in particular, it was moments like these, where they could just stare at each other and share little bits and pieces of their day without having to worry about anything else, it was just the two of them.
“I love you.” The confession caught her off guard, but it made her grin widely, leaning over to kiss him.
“I love you too.”
゚+*:୨୧:*﹤
The two were too excited to stand around in the arena any longer, so with a quick text to Ryan the two made their way outside and started making up a random handshake as they waited for their boyfriend.
They got halfway through their mostly confusing handshake when they heard voices and footsteps coming from behind him. Molly was quick to usher Will behind the wall, grinning like a fool as she rocked back and forth on her feet, watching as Gabe and his teammates walked closer.
Gabe came to a stop in front of her, placing his hands on her hips, “Hi baby.”
“Hi.” She continued smiling, placing a few kisses across his face before pulling away.
“What’s got you so smiley, hm?”
“I have a surprise for you.”
He raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips, “Oh yeah? And what’s this surprise you got for me? Chocolate? A sweatshirt that you’ve stolen from me? Or a-”
“Gabe! Shut up and let me show you.”
He laughed, allowing her to lead her wherever she was going, covering his eyes with his free hand, “Tell me when I can open them.”
They stopped further down and Will’s hand replaced Molly’s but Gabe didn’t even seem to flinch at the sudden change of temperatures. He tapped his foot impatiently, groaning slightly, “Molls c’mon. Don’t leave me hanging here, baby.”
“Okay okay, open them!”
When he did, his eyes found Molly almost immediately and looked at her slightly confused, “I don’t see a surprise here, sweetheart.”
But it didn’t take long for him to put the pieces together when he noticed that he was standing to his right but his left hand was still holding onto something. He glanced to his side and his mouth dropped open at the sight of his boyfriend, “What’re you doing here? Don’t you have a game?”
Will gave him a boyish grin, bouncing excitedly on his feet, “I might’ve convinced coach to scratch me.”
“You are insane, William.” Despite his words, he brought him into a hug, holding him tightly.
Molly squeezed herself into the middle of them, wanting nothing more than to be sandwiched between her two favorite people. The two let her wedge her way in, hugging her even tighter than they had hugged each other.
Will Smith’s surprises were Gabe and Molly’s favorite thing in the universe… well third favorite thing in the universe.

➪ summary: connor and violet visit downtown chicago and their adventure is nothing short of chaotic
➪ warnings: two people rearing their heads into every single thing connor and violet do (lukas and kevin ofc)
➪ word count: 0.9k
➪ emma's notes: honestly, whenever i'm in writers block i really just need to write for these two bc this was so easy to write and i don't know why i was dreading doing this in the first place. i still have three more blurbs to work on in order to be caught up but i don't know if those will be out tomorrow or today so yeah

“Are you sure you don’t want another jacket?”
“Connie, I’ll be fine. I promise.” Violet looked up from where she was sitting on the couch, already dressed in her winter coat, UofI beanie on her head and gloves adorning her hands.
Connor finished putting on his boots, walking over to her, and grabbing her hands to pull her up, “Just making sure.”
She smiled up at him, letting him bring her into a soft kiss. When he pulled away, he leaned his forehead to rest against hers, unable to keep the huge smile that was growing on his face. The smile caused her to blush, looking at him with curious and shy eyes, “What?”
“Nothing.” He stepped back, gripping her hand, “C’mon, we have places to be.”
The two walked out of Connor’s apartment, Violet whispering about all the things she wanted to do and wanted to see. It took everything in Connor to not just say ‘okay’ to everything she was saying, wanting nothing more than to spoil her just as he always did.
The cold hit them immediately as they stepped out of the building, Violet trying to bury her head further into her coat, “Jesus fuck.”
He laughed, looking down at her, “That’s a new one.”
She clutched tightly onto her boyfriend’s hand as they made their way down the street, eyes wandering as she tried to look at every single Christmas decoration that was out. Once they came to a corner, Violet’s eyes looked around aimlessly until her eyes landed on the store diagonally from them, a hit-eating grin on her face, “Connie.”
“Yeah, pretty girl?” He didn’t look down at her, simply pulling her into his side to keep her warm and away from the other people who were starting to crowd around them as they waited to cross the street.
“I found a store I want to go to.”
“And what store is that?”
She nodded her head in the direction, waiting for realization to click after he turned his head. He scanned the store, immediately rolling his eyes before looking back at her, “Really?”
“Please.”
“Do you want to go because you want to or do you want to go because you want to see my face everywhere?”
“Well, when you put it like that…” She trailed off, smiling before pulling him in that direction.
“Careful, Vi. You’re either going to trample someone or get trampled and I am not in the mood to deal with either outcome.”
“Shut up.”
They came to a stop outside the Hawks store, Violet bouncing with anticipation or amusement, he didn’t know, but it made him smile nonetheless. He opened the door, allowing her to talk in first, trailing after her as they climbed up the steps.
The guy standing there, got ready to greet the two of them when his gaze fell on Connor, cocking his head in confusion to which the boy just grumbled, “Don’t ask.”
The worker laughed and nodded, “Welcome in guys.”
Connor followed her around like a lost puppy the entire time, making mental notes in his head about which things she said she liked and which ones she loved. When they stopped by Winter Classic jerseys, he gave her a look when she took her phone out and took a picture of the sign, “What’re you going?”
Violet gave him an innocent look, “I don’t have this picture of you yet.”
“Obsessed much?”
“Yes.”
゚+*:୨୧:*﹤
Once Violet finished looking at everything she wanted to, the two made their way back downstairs into the cold of Chicago, trudging through downtown. When they came to a stop at a red light, waiting to cross, she looked over at him, studying the slope of his nose and the slight curve of his jaw.
As if he could feel her staring, Connor looked over at her, furrowing his eyes with a cocky smirk playing on his lips, “Yes?”
“Can you believe it’s almost been a year since we started dating?”
And she was right, and no, he couldn’t believe it. A year ago today, they were probably texting about something completely random and most of his focus was on playing better and helping the team. A year ago today, they were dancing around their feelings and just basking in their friendship and flirtiness.
In a week, Violet would fly out to Buffalo with the team so they could be together for their anniversary, and then they would fly back home to celebrate New Year’s together. Connor’s head swam with the information, at their plans, at the present that was hiding in the bottom of his backpack.
His smile softened into one of fondness, leaning down to press a kiss to her temple and bringing her into a huge hug, “I love you.”
Her eyes met his and she grinned, going up on her tip-toes in order to kiss his jaw, “I love you too.”
Some ran into the back of Connor, causing the two of them to stumble slightly, the boy turning around to glare at whoever it was. But instead of some stranger he thought he was going to have to yell at it, he was met with the faces of his two teammates, “What the fuck are you two doing here?”
Lukas and Kevin gave them shit-eating grins, “Fancy meeting the two of you here. What brings you two lovely people out on this very fine day?”
And some things will never change, even if those things include running into Kevin and Lukas when he really didn’t want to.

Trevor had been acting off since the middle of April, almost like he was trying to distance himself from her. Chloe had noticed how tense he got whenever she would mention her brothers or how fidgety he got when they were out in public together. His texts were less frequent, same with his calls, but she had expected that when he got called up.
But now it was a week before her birthday and she hadn’t heard from him since the Ducks left for their Midwest road trip which was about a week ago. Her text were left on read and her phone calls were left unreturned.
So when she was in her dorm and drafting lyrics to a new song, she wasn’t expecting her phone to light up with a call from him. Giddiness flooded through her as she reached over and clicked accept, bringing the phone to her ear, “Hi Trev! How’s the trip going?”
She heard him sigh, she could feel the irritation and hear the slight undertone of sadness in his breath. She furrowed her eyes, tugging her bottom lip between her teeth, “Are you okay?”
“I need to talk to you Chloe.”
She blinked at the use of his name, the slight coldness in his tone made her skin crawl. She was used to him calling her Chlo or some cringe-worthy nickname, she wasn’t use to him adressing her by her full name, it was unnatural for him.
“Talk about what?” Chloe fiddled with her pencil, tapping it rapidly against her notebook as she shifted on her chair.
“We have to stop this.”
“Stop what? What do you mean?”
“What I mean…” he huffed slightly, trying to convince himself that this was what he actually wanted, “is that we should breakup.”
She trembled slightly but held her self together. She didn’t know where this was coming from, they had been doing so well, or at least she thought they were. She tried to rack her mind for a time where she had done osmething wrong or said something wrong but she came up empty.
“I need to focus on hockey, Chloe,” he continued, taking her silence as a sign to move on. “And I cannot do that while I’m worrying about my best friend finding out I’m hooking up with his twin sister.”
“Hooking up? Is that what we are- were?” His words were like a dagger to her heart.
“I can’t, Chloe.”
Her voice turned harsh, she wasn’t going to let him dowthis without a decent explanation. She had been fucked over too many times already, “Can’t or won’t? Trevor I don’t know what you’re thinking about right now. Is it about the season? It’s going to get better, it did for Jack-”
“But I’m not Jack, Chloe! Don’t you get that? What if it doesn’t get better, what if I don’t get better?”
The two both held their phones, hands shaking slightly, eyes glassing over as silence consumed them. She could hear a shout form the other line and seconds later was mumbling, “I gotta go. Don’t call me or text me… please.”
He hung up, leaving Chloe to sit in her dorm room more alone than she already was. She looked over at the picture frame on her desk, it was a picture of her, Trevor, and Jack. She was in the middle as both placed their arms around her shoulders. She reached over and held it, fingers rubbing over the wooden frame.
All the happiness she used to feel when she looked at the photo faded away as Trevor’s words echoed in her mind, turning that happiness into a deeper melancholy feeling. Anger flooded through her as she threw the picture to the ground, glass shattering and scattering around the wooden floor of her room.
She couldn’t even find it in herself to be fazed as she placed her feet down fully and the glass cut through her feet, red staining her the thin material of her socks, a bitter, raw emotion coating her voice, “Happy 19th, Chloe.”

Molly wasn’t sure what it was, the hustle and bustle of the holidays, the getting back to school, the winter depression, but she could just feel like something was going to happen. She could feel the uneasiness in her stomach brew throughout the past week, sitting in the middle of class or reading a new book in her dorm.
Gabe knew she had felt off the whole week, keeping an eye on her at every possible second since she arrived back on campus. He had already been there a few days prior having had a game that Friday and Saturday before everyone was due back. And maybe it was because he knew her too well and had been watching her that he knew she was feeling off, or maybe it was because the same stomach-churning feeling his girlfriend had he had too, but he would never say that out loud.
The two drove in silence to TD Gardens, it would be their first time seeing Will since New Year’s and while they had gone longer than two weeks without each other, the two weeks had seemed like two years. With everything the two were feeling, the thought of just seeing their boyfriend in person felt like a huge relief off their shoulders.
Gabe looked over at Molly, a small smile growing on his face, “Hey.”
“Hi. You good?”
“Mhm, just excited, y’know. Hockey.”
“Yeah, I’m sure that’s what you’re excited about.”
゚+*:୨୧:*﹤
Standing in the tunnel after the game, Gabe held onto Molly’s hand anxiously waiting for Will to finish up in the locker room. The sinking feeling in both of their stomachs only grew during the game despite trying to focus on the sound of skating and the puck sliding along the ice for the past two and a half hours.
Gabe’s mind raced with thoughts of the unread text messages on his phone from his teammates, the unfinished assignments he had already collected in the week of being back at school, and the mess his bedroom was, everything was just piling up on him and he didn’t know how much more he could take.
Will walked out from behind the corner only a few minutes later, and just to Gabe’s luck, Mack was just a few feet behind them. He heard both of their laughs first, eyes landing on their figures seconds later. He watched as his boyfriend talked animatedly about something, what it was he had no clue, but he could feel the tension release from his body just at the sight of him.
Molly could feel the pit forming in the pit of her stomach as soon as she saw one of her best friends behind her boyfriend because as much as she loved Mack and loved talking to him, she knew her other boyfriend did not return the same sentiment.
She squeezed Gabe’s hand, trying to provide him with an extra layer of comfort as the two drew closer to them. Will’s gaze snapped over to them, a wide grin breaking out on his face. He didn’t say any words before he hugged Molly, whispering a soft greeting in her ear before pulling away and doing the same with his boyfriend.
However, Gabe’s hug lasted substantially longer than Molly’s, tight grip around Will’s waist as he toyed with the edge of his suit jacket. Will’s eyebrows furrowed, rubbing Gabe’s back in slow circles, murmuring, “You okay, handsome?”
He could feel Gabe nod from where his head was placed on his shoulder and didn’t say anything more, falling into silence as he just held him close. Gabe sighed, finally feeling at ease as he stood there, but his relaxed state went as quick as it came once Macklin’s voice made its way to his ears.
He tensed only slightly, still trying to drown out the talking that not only annoyed him but overwhelmed him. As the three continued talking, Gabe’s mind swirled into what was quickly becoming a storm of thoughts that he wished he didn’t have.
“No, I swear! Will just walked up to him like it was no big deal and he-”
“God do you ever shut up!” Gabe snapped, pulling away from the comfort that was the crook of Will’s neck, eyes looking Mack up and down.
Mack’s mouth shut, almost shying away from the volume of his voice. Will and Molly stared at their boyfriend agape, blinking slowly and then rapidly as if trying to figure out if what just happened had really happened.
“Gabe…” Will and Mack’s voices were soft as they spoke.
In turn, their voices at the same time only made Gabe grow more annoyed, “And of course, you two are talking at the same time!”
“I didn’t-”
“No of course you didn’t, because perfect Macklin Celebrin could never do anything wrong.” He cut him off, huffing as he crossed his arms.
“Gabe that isn’t fair and you know it. He was just trying to make conversation with you-” Will started, wrapping his hand around his bicep as he dragged him away from Mack and Molly.
Gabe’s yells turned into whispered harshness as he stared at his boyfriend, “He is always around Will, even if it’s just the three of us. Is it too much to ask to have you and Molly to myself for once?”
“No but you could at least be nice to him, Gabe. He is my friend, one of the only ones I have out in California. I am not saying you have to be all buddy-buddy with him but at least he’s trying, which is more than I can say about you.”
Tears formed at the base of Gabe’s eyes, but he refused to let them fall, “I am not going to try to be friends with someone who is trying to steal my boyfriend.”
Will tilted his head back in frustration, a loud groan coming out of him, “He is not trying to steal me, Gabe. And even if he was, which he isn’t, I am yours and Molly’s, which is something that will never change.”
The two just stared at each other for a few minutes before Will spoke again, “You’re acting like a spoiled fucking child who isn’t getting their way.”
This time, Gabe was unable to stop the tear from making its way down his face, wiping at it harshly as soon as he felt it, “That’s not… fair.”
“Oh so now it’s not fair? After what you said to him? Spare me the emotions, Gabe. I’m not dealing with this anymore. You need to get over whatever you have against him and stop acting like a child.”
Mack and Molly stood a ways away from them, watching the heated exchange. The girl spared a glance up at her friend, a frown easily taking over her face, “He didn’t mean it, Mack-”
“No… he did. And that’s fine. I’m fine. Honestly, Molls. It’s okay that he doesn’t like me, I just don’t want to ruin your guys’ relationship.”
“You aren’t ruining anything, I promise. It’s just been a hard few months for him and I know that is no excuse for what he said but-”
“Molly it’s okay. I will live and you do not have to apologize for him or for anything, okay? I’m going to head out, tell Will I’ll try to hold the team off long enough before they leave.”
She only nodded, eyes drifting back to watch her boyfriends argue. But somewhere between them starting and stopping their conversation, Gabe had disappeared and left an angry and upset Will by himself. Mack gave her a side hug, walking past Will and giving him a pat on the shoulder before leaving.
Molly approached him, stepping in front of him and taking his hands into her own, “What happened?”
She skipped over the question she would’ve liked to ask, Everything okay? Because she knew it wasn’t okay, it was the first real fight the three of them had ever had and it was a huge one. She heard him sigh, eyes searching his face for any telltale sign of what happened or what he said but she came up empty.
“I said things, he said things… I don’t know.” He ran a hand over his face, trying to sort through his thoughts.
“Were yours worse or were his?”
“I was being pretty shitty, but he was being…” He trailed off, unsure of what actually to say. While Gabe had said equally worse things, Will couldn’t help the regret and guilt that took over his mind.
“Do you-”
“Go. I don’t want him out on the street alone despite how mad at him I am, and I definitely do not want you two driving in the middle of the night. I have to get back to the team, we have the flight soon, gotta be in Nashville.” He rambled, unable to keep himself from everything he was thinking about.
She rose onto her tip-toes, giving him a kiss on the cheek, “I love you, and Gabe loves you too-” She paused when she saw the hurt and anger flash in his eyes at his name, “Yeah, okay.”
“I love you too, Molls. And I’m sorry.”
She shook her head, “Don’t be. Not to me at least and do not forget that he also said things that weren’t right, Will. You have a right to feel angry just as much as he does.”
゚+*:୨୧:*﹤
When Molly found Gabe, he was sitting against a wall, head in his hands and she could hear the soft sobs that came from him. Her steps were slow and deliberate, trying not to spook him. Her efforts were vain when his head jerked up at the brush of her hand against his shoulder. He only cried harder when he saw her.
“Gabe take a deep breath f’me okay?” She kneeled next to him as best as she could, ignoring the slight pain of her knees digging into the sidewalk's concrete. Her one hand brought his head to her chest and tangled in his hair while the other was placed comfortingly on his back.
“I’m sorry.” He hiccuped, trying to calm himself down.
She sighed as she repeated her earlier words, “Don’t be. Not to me at least.”

“Molls?”
Gabe’s soft voice drew Molly out of her thoughts from where she sat at her desk, working on a new film idea. Her knees were curled up into her chest, her feet resting in front of her on the chair with her head resting against her knees. She looked over at him, furrowing her eyebrows at the uncharacteristically quiet tone of his voice, “Yeah?”
When she turned to face him, she was met with a slight pout on his face, wet hair falling into his face, and one of Will’s shirts adorning his body, all wrinkled. He was holding his phone and Molly could only assume he was watching TikToks or Instagram Reels again. However, as she looked at him, she could see the sadness in his eyes, the longing that lingered with it.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” She didn’t move, not until she knew that Gabe was 100% upset.
It took him a few moments to respond to her, but when he did her heart cracked, “I miss him.”
She uncurled herself from her spot on her chair, making her way over to her bed to bring him into her chest and run her fingers through his hair. She knew he had been feeling this way for a few weeks, missing Will and wanting nothing more than to hop on a plane to San Jose and be curled up between him and her.
It wasn’t often that Gabe let her or Will see the emotional side of him despite them being together for a few months now and friends for well over a year. He hated feeling vulnerable in general, much less in front of people he cared so much about what they thought of him.
His phone caught her eye, the same flickers of light, the same colors flashing like clockwork. She looked over at it, seeing a video of Mack and Will replay over and over again. She sighed and leaned down to kiss Gabe’s head, holding him a little tighter.
She knew this ran deeper than just him missing their boyfriend, he missed his friend, his best friend, his teammate. She knew that Gabe seeing Will with Mack, seeing him so close with someone that wasn’t him, hurt. They had been teammates first, they had gotten coffee before games together, laughed their asses off as Will tried to use Google Maps, talked and decompressed together after tough games, and all of it was over in a second.
Molly’s voice was soft as she spoke, “He misses us too, Gabe. I promise you.”
“He hasn’t texted in three days, Molls,” Gabe’s voice cracked, “He hasn’t called in 9 days, hasn’t FaceTimed us in 12. Why won’t he talk to us? Why hasn’t he called us?”
Molly couldn’t even get a word out before he broke down, drenching her sweatshirt in tears he hadn’t let go of in weeks. All she could do was hold him, leaving kisses on his head and whisper sweet nothings to him, trying to calm him down.
It worked eventually, 20 minutes later he was fast asleep against her chest, snoring softly. She released a deep breath of relief, reaching for her phone in her bedside caddy. She maneuvered her way into her texts, clicking on her messages with Will that she hardly used since the three had their group chat.
Will was in New York with the team, and she could only hope that he was back at the hotel or on the bus, anywhere but on the plane. She didn’t bother sending him a text, immediately clicking on his contact and the call button, turning down the volume, and bringing it to her ear.
A few seconds later Will’s laugh rang out from the speaker causing tears to sting in her eyes. She hadn’t realized how much she had also missed him, she had been so caught up in classes and film ideas and filming, that she never gave herself the time to even think about missing him. Maybe she had done that on purpose, maybe she didn’t, but that didn’t matter now.
“Will?”
If Will hadn’t known that he clicked the accept button on his girlfriend’s call and was actively listening to her instead of his teammates now, he probably wouldn’t have even heard her voice due to how soft it was. Though, because he was, he could also hear the slight crack in her voice that he unfortunately knew all too well. She was sad and it took everything in him not to blow up to find out what was wrong.
Taking a deep breath, he waved his teammates off and walked out of their hotel room and into his own, sitting on the bed, “Hey sweetheart, what’s up?”
Molly’s breath was shaky before responding, “It’s Gabe.”
“What? What’s wrong? Is he hurt? I didn’t get a tweet or notification about it. Is he sick? Nervous?”
“Will, Will, Will, please calm down. He’s fine.” She reassured him, easing his worries a bit.
“Then what is it?”
“He just- he really misses you. And I think more in just an ‘I miss my boyfriend’ kind of way.”
“In what way then?”
“I think it’s like a ‘I miss my best friend and my teammate and I miss playing with him and being by his side every day’ kind of way. I think it’s all just catching up to him now.”
Will frowned, staying silent for a couple of minutes. Thoughts raced through his head, not stopping for a moment.
“I also don’t think it’s helped that we haven’t heard from you in a few days and he saw the media things you made with Mack. I’m not accusing you of anything Will, I know you’re busy, we know you’re busy with everything. We just miss you, s’all.”
She was met with more silence causing her to bite her lip nervously, redirecting her attention to the boy who still slept soundly against her, running her hands through his hair as a distraction. This proved to be a good distraction because her mind barely registered Will’s mumbled ‘I’ll see you soon’ before the end call tone echoed in her ears.
She froze, blinking at the wall in front of her. She pulled the phone away from her ear, trying to rack her brain to find out if she heard him correctly or not. Gabe shifted against her, mumbling something and blinking up at her, “What time s’it?”
“Huh?”
He furrowed his eyebrows, bringing his hand up to her his eyes to rid the sleep from them, “I asked what time it was. You okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“Yeah, I’m fine, just tired. Had a weird thought, that's all. C’mon, I’m tired. Let’s go back to sleep, okay?”
Gabe nodded, snuggling back into her and closing his eyes, falling back to sleep swiftly. Molly let her thoughts run around in her mind, tracing shapes on her boyfriend’s back in an effort to get herself to rest as well.
゚+*:୨୧:*﹤
Will arrived in Boston at 4 in the morning, walking briskly through the airport towards the exit, looking between his phone and in front of him. He had always told himself to not make impulsive decisions, and until this moment, he was doing a pretty good job at following that.
While he packed his bag, his brain screamed at him to put everything back and lay down in the hotel room bed and fall asleep, but his heart won over his brain this time, and he knew he had to get Boston sooner rather than later. He gave Mack a rushed explanation before running out of his room and down the steps of his hotel, catching the Uber he had called 20 minutes earlier.
The whole flight to Boston he was anxious, knee bouncing, hands shaking, he looked like a mess. Thankfully the flight was only an hour, an hour and he would have his boyfriend and his girlfriend in his arms again, reassuring them that he cared for them and missed them as much as they missed him. Maybe he would even finally say what he had been wanting to say for weeks now.
His mind was so crowded, that he barely acknowledged the fact that the Uber he was now in had stopped just a few minutes away from his destination. He thanked the driver endlessly, making sure to tip him as much as he could before grabbing his bag and suitcase, and practically running down the sidewalks of his old campus.
He cursed to himself as he came to a halt outside of his girlfriend’s dorm, knowing he wouldn’t be getting in unless someone was walking out of the building or someone was walking in. Thankfully, luck was on his side today as he saw a familiar face walking towards him. He had known him from a few classes he had with him, and someone that Molly had even talked to a few times before.
He had no problems with letting Will in, talking with him as they walked up to Molly’s floor. Once they reached it, they said their goodbyes and Will headed down the wall, stopping in front of her door. He took a deep breath before knocking, bouncing on his heels as he waited for an answer.
Inside, Molly groaned at the noise, turning and shifting on her bed. In the middle of the night, Gabe and her had moved, so now Gabe’s arms were wrapped tightly around her, keeping her against his chest. She hoped that whoever was at her door would go away and simply buried her head back into the crook of Gabe’s neck, trying to go back to sleep.
Her efforts were short-lived when another knock rang through her dorm room, eliciting a louder groan from her. She peeled herself away from her boyfriend, slowly sliding off the bed and walking over to the door. The coldness of her dorm floor caused her to jump slightly, her tired mind stopping her from putting slippers on before.
She didn’t bother to look through the peephole, yanking the door open and staring tiredly at the figure in front of her, “What do you want?”
The laugh she heard immediately woke her up, snapping her eyes open and blinking rapidly, “Will?”
“Hey, sweetheart.”
She wasted no time hugging him, wrapping her arms around his waist, inhaling his scent, “I can’t believe you're here, what’re you doing here?”
“I came to see the two of you of course, why else would I be here?” He pulled away slightly, brushing her tangled hair out of her face and smiling down at her, “I missed you two so much.”
“Molls?”
The two turned towards the voice, watching as Gabe lazily sat up and ran his fingers through his hair. Molly couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped her lips at the sleepy expression on his face as he blinked his eyes open.
Gabe’s eyes opened slowly, looking around the room in search of his girlfriend. Hearing her laugh, his eyes fell on the open door and the two people standing by it. His eyes adjusted to the darkness, the second figure coming into view, “Will?”
“Hey, handsome. How’s it going?”’
“What the fuck are you doing here man? You’re supposed to be in New York.” Despite the annoyance and confusion in his tone, Gabe hopped off the bed and walked over to the two of them, bringing his boyfriend into a hug.
Will stumbled slightly at the force Gabe had used in his hug, but kept them upright nonetheless, hugging him back just as tight, “Had to see my loves didn’t I?”
Molly rolled her eyes at the nickname, a fond smile on her face as she stepped away to let them have a moment.
Gabe and Will stayed in the hug for more than a few minutes, Will kicking the door closed with his foot as they stood there. They barely exchanged any words before they pulled away, Will leaving a kiss on Gabe’s shoulder.
They climbed into bed alongside Molly, Gabe staying in the middle of them. After a few minutes of silence, Gabe spoke up, “I didn’t mean to not call or text, I just- I’ve been really busy and stressed and everything. I promise I’ll do better, I never want you guys to feel like I don’t miss you, because I do. So so so much.”
Gabe nodded against his chest, mumbling a reply that the two of them barely caught. They just shrugged it off, placing kisses on his head and cuddling against him. The quiet atmosphere settled around them, aiding in the comfort the three were surrounded by. It felt nice, to be back together in bed and cuddling, it was their favorite thing to do.
“I need to tell you something.”
Both Gabe and Molly’s heads looked towards Will, eyes shining with curiosity, “What is it?”
Will swallowed nervously, “It might be too early but I’ve been thinking about it for a couple weeks now and I just, I need to say it before I think too much about it and never say it-”
“Will!”
“Right, sorry. I um- I love you two.”
The two blinked at him, frozen as Molly’s grip on Will’s hand tightened. Will looked back at them, the anxious feeling creeping up on him. Maybe it was too soon, maybe he did just screw up everything and he had just gotten back to them.
“I love you two too.”
Will smiled at his girlfriend’s soft voice, leaning over Gabe to kiss her gently. Gabe pouted, grumbling, “Hey, what about me?”
The two pulled away from each other, eyes moving to look at their boyfriend. His face lit up as their attention fell on him, “I love you two more.”

It was no surprise that Chloe Hughes’ favorite thing about Christmas was Christmas music. Which is why, when Trevor walked through the door of her apartment, just at the beginning of December, he really should’ve expected All I Want for Christmas Is You to be blasting through whatever speaker his girlfriend had found.
But sadly, he was so zoned out on the way up there that he didn’t even hear the music coming through the door as he stuck his key into the lock. Walking through the door, he jumped immediately, the music rushing to his ears as he quickly shut the door behind him.
His eyes looked around frantically, trying to find Chloe, which in all, didn’t take very long because there she was, dressed in a matching white fuzzy pajama set, a Santa hat adorning her head, and singing her heart out.
She didn’t hear the door close, simply going about placing the lights on the tree as she danced. It wasn’t until he was standing right next to her, reaching to place an ornament on a branch that she noticed him, panic crossing her eyes, “No!”
Trevor jumped again, this time startled by the sound of her voice, looking over at her, eyes wide, “What? What’s wrong?”
“Do not place that ornament on the tree Trevor Zegras. Put it back where you found it.”
He pouted at the use of his full name, “Don’t call me that.” But he did as he was told, placing the red-colored ornament back in the box where the other ones were, “Forgot how mean you get when you’re decorating.”
Her eyes narrowed, “I do not get mean! I just like doing things in an order. Lights, ornaments, tinsel, star. L.O.T.S, Trevor, lots.”
Truthfully, she didn’t know when she came up with that. Whether it was something her mom always did that she followed after, or it was something she started when she was in college and decorated her small Christmas Tree in her dorm room, she would never know, but it’s been with her since she can remember, so it didn’t matter all in all.
“Okay, okay. I’ll do it your way.”
゚+*:୨୧:*﹤
When it came time, Chloe slowly got onto Trevor’s shoulders, warning him slightly, “Trevor I swear to god if you drop me- you’re going to have a lot of fans mad at you for why I can’t be on tour.”
“I’m not going to drop you! Why would I drop you?”
“Because you’re Trevor fucking Zegras.”
He pinched her thigh, grinning at the yelp she let out, and the smack to his head that came afterwards. He walked closer to the tree, following her instructions on where to move, waiting until she placed the star on top of the tree. Once it was placed perfectly, she patted his head, “Okay, put me down now.”
She slid off his shoulders, landing on the carpet with a soft thud before looking up at him, “Thank you.”
His features softened, leaning down to kiss her, murmuring against her lips, “‘Course baby.”
She wrapped her arms around his neck, bringing him down for another kiss before they inevitably ended up cuddling on the couch to whatever Christmas movie they found first.
