write a lil blurb/drabble inspired by this lyric:

this is based somewhere in/around my veilguard modern college au 📚✏️ (and rookanis bc i simply cannot stop thinking about them) also i fear i took the prompt extremely literally lmfaoooo autism

Sat in the bland, cream room furnished with a brown sofa and desk, Lucanis felt his mind going numb. He had never understood why Caterina sent he and Illario to therapy. The exact same therapist, by the way. How did she manage to stay impartial? He didn't dislike her. Jenny, the Therapist. Jenny, with the blunt ginger bob and beady eyes behind thick rimmed glasses. In fact, she was quite warm and softly spoken. She never frowned, except in contemplation perhaps. Lucanis just thought it was a waste of time. What was talking going to do? Was he supposed to tell Jenny every single deep, dark, humiliating thought he ever had? Every belief he held about his family, his parents? Tell her about Spite?! To what end? Tsk. The worst was when she asked about the people he cared for; Illario, Caterina, any friends - of which he had zero. That is... until recently. He was a few weeks into the second and final year of college, and he had been talking about his subjects when he mentioned a new girl who'd started in his psychology class: Rook. Jenny eyed him as he quickly, awkwardly changed the topic of conversation. Her thin lips twitched into a half smile and he knew she’d latched on to something. "Tell me more about this 'Rook'. Is this a new friend?" she asked softly. He pictured her in his mind, because he couldn’t not picture her. Maya Rook, sat beside him in class. A mess of deep chestnut curls, usually half pulled up, paired with enchanting hazel eyes… For the first time in any of his sessions so far, Lucanis blushed.

actually, jenka's defanging - especially her talk of "new teeth" and "being sharp in other ways" - makes me wonder how much the heterodyne MO changed between the pre- and post-andronicus eras. the storm king was a big threat to house heterodyne and their general capacity to wreak havoc. it makes sense that they adapted to face this new enemy, and hey, it worked out pretty well! destroyed the shining coalition, kicked off the long war, there wasn't "peace" in europa again until the heterodyne boys. but i also wonder if they were forced to adapt to the threat andronicus presented.

specifically, i'm curious whether jenka's defanging was actually part of the climactic conflict or whether it was a concession made in the context of euphrosynia and andronicus' betrothal. the master says that andronicus became directly mixed up in heterodyne activity shortly before his interment, so it's a safe bet he didn't go down fighting the heterodynes. that and the...surgical nature of jenka's injury suggest the latter. especially given how much he loathes the jagers, i imagine he would have wanted them all similarly neutered eventually. maybe jenka's defanging was a "good-faith" token or even a condition of the betrothal. (lowkey, the idea of euphrosynia allowing this feeds my nasty little hypothesis, but that's beside the point).

it would definitely fit with a general demand on his part that house heterodyne engage with aristocratic standards of behavior. this could be the origins of jenka's diplomatic persona. it might even be why she took on the role of euphrosynia's "handmaid," as implied here - something every polished lady needs and no heterodyne has ever heard of. certainly house valois would have given her all the training she needed in playing the aristocratic femme fatale.

alternatively, i wonder whether jenka staged a one-on-one confrontation with him at some point, and that's when it happened.(perhaps they were even involved with each other in a capacity less-than-befitting of andronicus' title. i'm not sure that a sub-arc like that is really the foglios' style, but it tickles my brain and seems like just the kind of nastiness a glory-hogging golden boy would get up to. it would certainly explain the "doxy" comment, not to mention a great deal of the other dialogue on this page. the heterodynes were no strangers to multiplicitous involvements either, so i could imagine the dalliance taking place without disloyalty on jenka's part. tbh we know very little about euphrosynia's personality, and she herself could even have ordered it. maybe as a test of his loyalty? but it's just an idea i like to toy with. no doubt i'll turn it into a filthy, scandalous fanwork sometime.)

During the crushing stage, do the ROs ever fantasize (accidentally or not) about the MC? What type of scenarios do they think about the most/which one makes their heart beat faster?

Kieran: They’d mostly be unable to stop thinking about small shared moments of intimacy—like accidentally touching hands (and how it would feel to lace their fingers through MCs) or lingering stares (and wondering if they mean to MC what they mean to them) etc. Their touch averseness around strangers would shift into an aching hunger for touch—they are starved for it. Despite themself, they want to know what every little touch would feel like. A brush of fingers, a caress to the cheek, etc. And would it feel as electrifying to MC as it would to them?

Nihm: Well of course they have to think about the silly ‘would you still love me if I was a worm/bug’ scenario (and what if we were both bugs?? 🐛😳🫣❤️ *gaspppp* and we kissed??? On a leaf????). Mostly they would find themself thinking about little things they want to know about MC but maybe don’t—what their hand feels like and is it smooth or calloused, warm or cold? And what their eyes look like up close (esp if mc is taller, they can’t freaking see from down here and would they have to stoop down to kiss them??? 😳 and if they’re both short how close is too close for them to stand to try to see all the colors in MCs irises??), and what a brush of MCs lips would feel like on their cheek, and what are all their favorite things and what could they do that would be sure to make MC smile at them or laugh and does MC like puns cuz they’ve got a lot and if we adopted a caterpillar 🐛 together would we name her Baroness von Squiggly or Darby the Destroyer or Caterine Cutiepie III or—

Lilith/Lucien: Yeah, of course—all the time. They’re fantasizing right now. Plenty of nsfw ones 👌 but also, despite themself, they’d fantasize about domestic things they want so badly but know they can’t ever have—things like getting married and growing old with MC. Little details like what we’d eat at our wedding, and would we playfully argue over decor and no, no trust them, amaranth would be perfect choice of flower for the garlands and bouquets, and do you think your mom would like them, and tomorrow—and the next day, and every day after that—would you wake up next to them? But it’s a fantasy to them that will only ever be just that—a fantasy.

Samira: She would take a sort of guilty pleasure in fantasizing—fantasies are the only place where she can have MC. A lot of her fantasies would revolve around little mundane domestic things (like the I-want-to-do-my-grocery-shopping-with-you-for-the-rest-of-my-life type fantasies), and things like wanting to take MC home to meet her parents and show them where she grew up and wanting to cook for them. Things like wanting to let MC lie down to sleep with their head in her lap, wanting to know what MC would sound like murmuring sleepily to her before they go to bed and what they would look like when they wake, groggy and hair all mussed up and would they whine and pull her back to bed when she tries to get up? Little human things beyond the image they present as royalty.

Aurynn: He hasn’t really fantasized over much since he was a kid. In a crushing stage, he’s not really going to fantasize as he doesn’t recognize his own feelings for what they are, only that something’s changed and he is overly aware of every little interaction with MC in a way he wasn’t previously—and that scares him. When he was young, he’d fantasize about fairytale-style romances etc but he’s since become disillusioned with what love is and doesn’t entirely consciously understand what he or anyone really wants out of a relationship yet anyway. He won’t let himself fantasize anymore—it changes nothing.

What's sharper? I daresay your comment's a worthy contender (affectionate). Sometimes I like to meme about Vivi's elbows as his backup weapons, whether you remember that or came up with it on your own, either way it makes me happy.

Taking this as an opportunity to ramble. This episode, I think, truly gives the reader a wake up call and establishes that this comic doesn't do the black and white morality.
