Note
everyone’s out here about to make their own OC for who they picture as the kid from the found fam au skdjksnfdk personally for me i’m imagining it’s girl (cause what isn’t funnier than like 7 dudes trying to raise a 6 year old girl? skdjskfj) i think she’s smart like william and sherlock but bc she’s yknow A KID she uses her brain to get uncle louis to give her more treats before dinner/bedtime and getting out of tutoring so she can go play skdjsknf
Omgs ikr???its such a cute idea!!!
OMFGS!!!!WHAT ABOUT A TWIN????ONE GIRL,ONE A BOY???(pls tell me what you all think!!!)
Now,back to your idea.
Oh gods a baby girl would be adorable!!! (Ikr????imagine them struggling with girl stuff!its just hilarious to think Sebastian getting all confused over the different dresses the girl has!!!)
Yess 😭😭😭 the baby is smart like her dadies!!!
Omgs yes sjwnskksjsj (inserts madly keyboard smash.)
I think no one can really fool Louis ,since he's super smart like William too. But as the kid's uncle, what choice do you have when your adorable niece tries to act all smart (i mean, she is smart, but there's just something adorable about seeing her sitting on the kitchen table, putting on a smart face while trying to explain to Louis why the extra desserts and sweets are in fact healthy and needed before dinner with a childish hidden excitement???)
And ofc, everyone loves the kid,but i think Louis is the one that has the softest spot for her (as her uncle) and would cave to almost anything she wants or says.
If she wants extra treats or desserts (even tho William says no,) Louis will give it to her.
If she wants to get out of the piano lessons to go outside and play with her friends at the orphanage , Louis will definitely take her there.
William actually knows about all these, but never mentions it cause he knows how much she means to Louis. (Sherlock says William has to have a talk with Louis, but whenever he starts to controll himself around their daughter, he'll get a saying in this matter.)
Ps : im gettin' melted from all these sweetness 😭😭 💕💕💕i dunno how to thank @irethepotato for this entire idea 😭💕

MANAGER!SEIJOH AU
a/n: this is kind of an au like what if you were
for more seijoh content, check this masterlist out!
anon:
- 🥺👉🏻👈🏻 i would like to request a seijoh!manager reader who’s a first year and is siblings with ushi and the team’s reaction to finding out that she was supposed to go to shiratorizawa with ushi and their reaction with her getting along with the shiratorizawa volleyball team and maybe the manager is a small cute soft little energetic ball of sunshine 🥺🥺 also hewwo, hope youre doing well! ☺️ -🎷🐛
- Ir seijoh manager series is so gooood. Can we get something where by some weird reason yn-chan is close to ushijima and tendou and the seijoh boys dont know about it and how they'd react to her being so affectionate w them ahahwindkdn
Tumblr media
EVERYONE SHUT UP AND LOOK AT HOW FREAKING PRETTY TENDOU IS LIKE AKLFDJLASKFJDLSKFJDSFLKD
okayokayokay
so this is a what if thing
like what if ushijima was your older brother
SLKFDJADFLIJSDKLDF I CAN ALREADY IMAGINE OIKAWA SCREAMING
you didnt exactly have the best relationship with your mom
you remember when you were younger that she used to yell at your brother for using his left hand and you got angry a lot because you were fiercely protective of your brother
this caused her to yell at you too for being nosy and being involved in something you shouldnt be in
duh we know that ushi’s dad takashi actually supported him for this and protected him too and you were also a papa’s girl so you always ran to him
he understood you both better and while your mother worked, he was at home taking care of you two
then when they mentioned wanting to separate, you were very sad but somewhat relieved
mostly because you hated hearing your parents arguing and you felt bad for your brother as he constantly did whatever to get you out of the house
thats what brought on your love for volleyball
you werent exactly the best player but you were interested in it and often watched matches with him
but you also liked volleyball because your brother liked it
you liked whatever your brother liked
he adored you too and he was a boy who didnt talk much due to your mother but he was always a talker with you
especially when you couldnt sleep, he would sneak you out of your room and you both would run to the kitchen and eat ice cream
even with just a 2 year age difference, he looked as if he was older than you due to his massive height
‘just wait nii-chan! i will drink enough milk to reach your height!’
*insert lenny face*
AKLDJFSLDKFJDF I HATE MYSELF
CAN I PLEASE DIE
however
when they divorced, you thought your father would take both you and ushi
like the lady at the court even asked you where you wanted to go and not a breath of hesitation you chose your father
you weren’t very concerned because you knew your brother was going to choose your dad as you both were closer to him
so imagine your surprise when he said he didnt care and naturally, the mother would get the child
lowkey you felt hella betrayed and when your dad whisked you away overseas, there was this grudge you held against toshi
yall youre like 5
i would be hella mad too if my brother chose the person who yells at him all the time
in california, your father made sure you still remembered your brother and you tried to detach from the japanese lifestyle to your new one but you just couldnt
maybe around 6 years you were already fed up with the hot california heat and you wanted to go back to japan to see toshi again
you got over that grudge years ago but your mother refused to have any contact or anything to do with your father and so that included you too
she refused to let you both video chat and any type of connection
your dad obviously noticed your sad expressions and your obvious longing to go back to your brother again and so he arranged something
you shut the door gently before taking off your shoes by the doorway
the large house was often quiet except for the constant typing of a keyboard in your father’s study
‘tadaima’
you meekly mumbled but his sense of hearing never wavered so he heard your voice
‘oh? y/n?’
his voice echoed through the hallways and you heard his chair squeak as it was moved back so he could stand
your sock-cladded feet padded against the hard wood floor and you walked towards his study where indeed he was standing there
your father has definitely aged yet his job as a coach made him as fit as he was decades ago
as much as it disgusted you, you could tell what your friends meant when they said your dad was good-looking
they actually said your dad was hot but you refuse to acknowledge that
you and your friends are like 12 tf
you closed the door and sat down on the loveseat at the corner of the room as it was your designated spot
‘hey, papa’
you greeted with a smile and he gave you the same grin
‘i ordered f/f (favorite food) for dinner tonight so try and listen for the bell to ring, okay?’
you nodded
there was bit of small talk and you asked about his team while he asked about school and you both arranged to hang out over the weekend at some ice cream shop
the conversation dragged on until you heard the doorbell and you ran to the door to answer the delivery man
your dad put out the plates on the table and you excitedly dug in
‘also, you remember your grandmother? and her terrible back?’
oh god of course you did
they lived about 30 minutes away from your house in japan and she constantly worried your father bc the woman was approaching 90 and was still picking peppers!
with old coach ukai
‘what did she do now?’
your father chuckled at the exasperation in your voice
‘she misses you. says something about the family’s princess needing to go back to her country or something’
there was a smile in your face
your grandmother was your favorite and she always said you were the princess
she hated your mother because of how insensitive she was so she only acknowledged you as the only other female in the family
obviously your brother was also liked but there was just a special bond between you and your grandmother
‘so when are we going back?’
you asked and it was clear that you were excited at the thought of going back to japan as you havent been back since you moved due to your father’s busy job and your school
takashi swallowed his food before revealing the news
‘actually, if you want, you could finish your schooling there. but only until college first though because your old man needs you over here too’
nah bro you didnt even care about the last part
literally your fork fell to the table and you shrieked
‘WHAT?! SERIOUSLY?!’
and thus brought you back to japan
you stayed with your grandmother on your dad’s side and you quickly got accustomed back to japan life
OH
your BROTHER!
okay
so waka-chan def heard you coming back
your mother was grumbling about it the other day and he was sure he heard your name in there
‘sdkfjkdslfjdkslfj y/n dkfjlsdkfjldkf’
LMAO THATS ME TRYING TO SAY THAT WAKA COULDNT UNDERSTAND WHAT SHE SAID SINCE SHE WAS MUMBLING SHE WASNT KEYBOARD SMASHING LMAO
there was a mutual giddiness in there too and he was excited to see you again after many years without contact
however
there was a bit of fear in there that thought back to when you were younger and his choice of not really having a specific parent despite your pleads to stay together with him
but he was going to make sure your bond was still intact!
he would do anything in his power to do so!
when you arrived
your dad accompanied you back to japan and you both were walking out to the exit of the airport when you saw your grandmother excitedly waving a sign around
in bold sparkly letters, it said ‘USHIJIMA’
okay wait i love grandma usui
you quickly ran over to her and she grasped you into her arms
‘nana’
you sobbed and she hugged you tightly
‘im so happy youre back home’
your father shook hands with the friend she brought to help drive you guys back home
old man ukai was basically the chauffeur but hes really good friends with your nana so it was okay
the entire ride you guys basically caught up with each other and you couldnt help but laugh whenever your dad would go on a rant about your grandma being too reckless and your nana defending herself
‘oh stop it, takashi. i was only given one life and if it’s over, it’s over. for now, ill live it how i see fit!’
your old family home was exactly as you remember it but you didnt expect the 6′2 boy in the living room
‘nii-chan’
you meekly whispered and he let out a soft smile before opening his big arms
you ran into them and he held you tightly
‘i missed you. so much’
he whispered and you nodded
it was def such a nice thing to have your brother again
oooo your dad been knew that you would be sticking to waka like you did when you were itty bitty young
so when you practically begged waka to stay at your nana’s house the entire summer, he couldnt refuse you
duh your mom went to see you but you just quietly sat there and smiled at her
polite but distant
due to being around waka so much, you naturally went to his volleyball practices and their training camp
there
you met his friends and you guys quickly got acquainted especially with tendo bc he was just so fun
and he was your brother’s boyfriend best friend
the others were still kinda distant with you ahem ahem im looking at you shirabu
but they were mostly amazed at how powerful the genetics played in your appearances because wowza you were beautiful
lmao dont let waka hear them say that bc they would be benched all season in a single snap
during training camp, you usually sat at the sides or you would be their stand-in manager
goshiki absolutely LOVES you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GOSHIKI MY SON MY BABY
him and you were the same age so there was an easier way of being friends and your energies just matched so well
he would run up to you whenever he got a play right and you would ruffle his hair affectionately
LADKSJFLDSKFS FLASHBACK TO TENDO!SISTER X GOSHIKI
‘y/n-chan!’
‘y/n-chan!’
‘y/n-chan!’
hell even ushi was getting annoyed at goshiki’s constant need for you
tendo would steal you away and he would be giggling to you about how adorable you were and you just giggled along bc wow this beautiful man is really talking to me right now
ALKSDJFLKSF CAN YOU TELL IM ALSO A TENDOODOO SIMP?
‘cmere, y/n-chan. i taught toshi this the other day and he was very impressed and wanted me to do it again. okay so it goes in a rhyme, ya ready?’
you nodded along and he shot you a close-eyed smile before starting to draw on the dirt with a stick
‘there once was a man with-’
lets just say
you were definitely your brother’s sister
sometimes though
you would try and go towards the calmer players to get away from the rowdiness from baby daddy tendo and baby goshiki
you would find them at the gym just doing drills and at the sight of you, they would turn red but continue playing
they didnt really mind seeing you there bc youve always been such a positive energy and cheered them on which gave them strength
‘NICE ONE OHIRA-SAN!’
‘WAHHH SO COOL YAMAYAMA-SAN!’
you were like a cute ball of serotonin >o<
‘wah, of course its expected for you guys to be the top in the prefecture. youre like,,,,, silent but deadly~!’
duh a compliment from a girl?
dead
shirabu’s bangs would get in the way of his vision sometimes yall i will never stop making fun of that ridiculously adorable haircut so you would use a clip and tuck it away for him
this big babie is so awkward that he turns red when you whisper in his ear that you were done
semisemi baby and you got along bc you guys had a similar taste in music and because you lived in california, he was fascinated that you were in the music capital of america
‘did you see celebrities down the street?’
he asked you excitedly one day during lunch
you stopped then smiled softly
‘semisemi-kun, i didnt live at that part of california’
nah to him, america is just filled with celebrities
OH DEAR BABY BOY KAWANISHI
taichi is a generally quiet guy
like you thought he was actually selectively mute when you first met him
but you gradually got him to talk and you would help him whenever he would want to practice
usually it was during the ungodly hours of the morning
you woke up and went to grab a drink from the common room but you noticed his large build exiting the door so you followed him into the gym
‘kawanishi-san?’
you called out and felt guilty when he jumped
‘oh, hey’
he aknowledged
‘wha-’
you stopped to yawn causing your eyes to close making you miss the brief second of softness that flashed in his eyes
‘what are you doing?’
you tiredly asked
taichi dusted off his trackpants after kneeling down to rummage through his bag and you couldnt help but gawk at his height
‘im training early’
he answered
‘why? is it because you want to keep up with the others?’
you mumbled and he was surprised for a second but reverted back to his stoic expression
‘i have to make sure i am able to reach my seniors level for next year’
taichi turned away to grab a stray ball and you moved to go to the storage room for the ball cart
‘oi, what are you doing? go back to bed’
he said from the other side of the gym but you just looked back at him with a tired grin
‘meh, i want to spend time with you, senpai’
you reasoned
he shook his head before walking over to you then ruffled your hair
‘no wonder youre so tiny. you dont sleep enough and let your body grow’
yep that was the closest youve gotten to taichi joking with you
usually, hes training and when hes in the zone, nothing else has his attention but the ball
maybe thats why the others ahem goshiki has said that he was very scary
his game face was practically a mean face
basically you spent the entire training camp with them and then soon, you were going back to school
duh everyone hmm maybe not shirabu bc he most definitely read the school book of rules thought you would be going to shiratorizawa with them
but you broke the news to them one afternoon and imagine the tears from both tendo and goshiki
‘WHHYYYY!!!!’
‘NOOO!!!!!’
‘why can’t you?’
semi asked and you were about to answer when shirabu beat you to it
‘the school doesnt allow late transfers’
oh right
the american school system was set in a different schedule than a japanese school system
it was considered the summer for them yet school already started a few months ago
since shiratorizawa was a very academically and physically prestigious school, they refused anyone who would potentially be late or behind their curriculum
‘so where ya headed to then, chibi?’
tendou pouted and you leaned against his arm
‘hmm some school named aoba johsai? i dont know its near my grannie’s so that’s all that mattered’
oh dear
USHIJIMA NO Y/N WILL NOT ASK TOORU TO GO TO SHIRATORIZAWA
they consider seijoh a rival bc theyve played against them practically in every prefecture tournament and they were worried for that infamous setter
‘ne, y/n-chan, promise us that you won’t be swept away by them! especially a guy named oikawa tooru!’
uhhh
well
tendou’s warning was kinda ignored bc you ended up being seijoh’s manager
hehe
surprise?
but they weren’t really really shocked tho bc they knew you liked volleyball so you would naturally be in the volleyball team
even as a manager
meanwhile in seijohhh
OooOOOoOoOooooo sEiJOOhHHHH~~~~~~
okay so you were actually registered under your father’s last name usui rather than the ushijima last name
therefore you werent exactly immediately known as HEY! USHIJIMA’S SISTER!
you still became the manager the way you did as mentioned in part 1
and you still are their adorable baby manager
you were aware of their oikawa’s hatred for wakawaka so you try not to talk about him even though youre literally the closest person to him
was it traitorous?
maybe
but you actually even help them when they practice
duh the boys are like eyebrow raise emoji
‘wow youre really into volleyball, huh, manager-chan?’
matsukawa commented and you just smiled
‘hmm, my family likes it so ive picked up a thing or two’
LMAO
little do they know your brother is literally the best volleyball player around and is a member of the under 19 team and your father is a volleyball coach in america and would someday be someone iwaizumi hajime (19) would apprentice under
there was a lot of times you thought you would slip up like your home screen was of you and waka but youve been careful to cover it up
BUT
you cant always be sneaky
it was during the first day of the tournament and you were filling up their water bottles I SWEAR WHY IS MANAGER-CHAN ALWAYS FILLING UP WATER BOTTLES when you found a familiar bunch of boys at the end of the hallway just chatting
you havent seen tendou and the boys in so long so you placed the bottles down and rushed over there so quickly
‘TOMUTOMU!’
you shouted and the oddly-haired boy turned and he gasped before grabbing you into a large hug
this grabbed tendou’s attention and he cheered then hugged you too
your giggles and happy cheers were so infectous and they just absolutely missed you so much
these tall boys were at a advantage so someone scooped you up and you were just affectionately being talked to and hugged and LKDSJFSLDFJ SO LUCKY SO LOVED
meanwhile
the plant babies were wondering where the heck you went to
‘y/n-chan?! where is she?!’
oikawa panicked quickly while iwaizumi hit him to shut up
‘be quiet! you won’t find her if you’re too busy freaking out!’
‘ill find her’
matsukawa volunteered and they nodded, feeling at ease of him being capable to find you if you were in trouble
but when he returned empty-handed and with large eyes, they knew something was up
they ran behind mattsun to stop and copy his shocked expression at the sight in front of them
is that
you?
with
shi
ra
to
ri
za
wa
oh my god
‘y/n-chan!’
oikawa shouted, being the first to speak
you jumped and your own eyes widened
‘oh. oh no’
you mumbled
the others were so stunned and seijoh itself was so hard to make speechless but they were just shocked
period
‘what is happening’
iwaizumi mumbled
yea the others were just shocked period
‘hey guys’
you waved and you motioned them closer
‘uhh,,, well,,, um they are my friends’
you smiled uneasily and they could see that
‘aaand?’
oikawa signalled you to say everything bc he knew it wasnt the whole story
you sighed
‘ushi,,, jima is my brother’
you mumbled the last part
but they heard you
‘HAH?!’
you cringed and the shira boys were about to move to protect you but they saw you glare at them
‘what? what about it? hes my brother? and?’
you babbled
‘but,, why are you,, in seijoh? dont get me wrong! its just,, youd naturally go to shiratorizawa right?’
mattsun waved his hands around and asked the question thats bugging the team
‘i came to the country late’
‘THE COUNTRY?!’
well,,
turns out you havent exactly told them everything about you yet :/
even when youve cleared the air and introduced waka as your brother, seijoh still didnt say anything
they were stuck in this shocked and surprised moment even at the end of the day and when you went straight to the shiratorizawa team,
they watched with wide eyes as you laughed with goshiki and was jumping around with tendou
‘AH! TOMU! MY HAIR!’
‘TORI-SAN! SATORI-SAN! TAKE THAT!’
wow you were actually really beautiful when youre happy
‘i dont think ive seen her this happy with this much energy’
makki said and they nodded
it was true
you were usually calm and collected and was the perfect balance to this chaotic team
so seeing you so free and loose with them was so refreshing, even if it was with damn ushiwaka
you finally went back to the seijoh boys and they all sent glares to the violet team before sending you a smile
‘you ready to go, manager-chan?’
watari ruffled your hair before handing you your bag to start walking to the bus
‘yea. lets go home’
as you all walked, oikawa was already starting his tantrum
‘y/n-chan~! why aren’t you that happy around us? are we not enough for you?’
oikawa whined and pouted
but you just turned to smiled at him and stopped walking to pat his head
‘im not their manager, therefore im not pressured to act like anyone except as a friend and a spectator. but i try to be as professional as i can with you guys to make sure you dont appear bad to others. and you guys are perfectly chaotic enough, adding me into the mix will just about kill coach’
oikawa didnt seem satisfied though
‘but! thats not fair! they get to see you smile and i dont!’
iwaizumi growled at him to be quiet but you beat him to it
well
you smiled at tooru but your eyes shone maliciously
‘i knew you would act like this, oikawa-san. as punishment, i gave nii-chan your phone number. good luck avoiding him now’
oikawa screamed
a/n: AAWWWWW LETS NOT KILL COACH IRIHATA OKAY? HES LIKE OUR GRANPAPA AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE LEAVE OIKAWA ALONE WAKAWAKA-KUN!

My 2020 Fics In Review
As a new smut fanfic writer who started posting Oct 2020, I was curious what type of results my various fics got and what certain things can do for a fic’s results. I post to both Ao3 and Tumblr at the exact same time as so I’ll be using data from both.
I’m sure a lot of people don’t care about this but I did it for fun and to see if I could learn anything to improve myself. It will be a mess.
I’ll keep everything under a Keep Reading since it can be a bit long and also has my commentary on the results. Results will come first with my thoughts on the bottom.
Note: I checked all these stats right before 2020 turned to 2021 in my time zone.
Fic Stats:
You can find all the fics listed on my Master List here ☚
I wrote and posted a total of TEN fics between October and December. NINE if you consider two of those posts were part one and part two of the same story.
Total Word Count for all those combined (according to Ao3): 48,264 words.
Tumblr Results
Most Popular Fic for 2020: The Perfect Gift [Hawks | Keigo Takami]
I’m not surprised by this while also being surprised.
Being my last fic of the year, my own following I had more to build on than my other fics. I also had a TON of reblogs for this by other fic authors with a following of their own and I posted on Hawk’s birthday. So, results occurred.
However, the fact that it blew up that much in fives days shocked me.
Interesting note Second place goes to my one and only dark fic: Father Figure: Punishment [Eraserhead | Shouta Aizawa]
This fic is my entry into the darker content scene and it takes second place for popularity!!! Goes to show... dark content is both enjoyed and supported by many people. So, all ya keep at it. I plan to.
Least Popular Fic for 2020: Oh Raven (Sing Me A Happy Song)  [Present Mic | Hizashi Yamada]
Sadly, I’m not surprised by this result. Not only was it my first fic into the scene it is also a OC story rather than reader.
Total Results for Each Fic:
1st: The Perfect Gift         279 Likes, 27 Reblogs, 0 Commenters 2nd: Father Figure: Punishment         204 Likes, 15 Reblogs, 2 Commenters 3rd: Shouta’s Present         146 Likes, 12 Reblogs,  0 Commenters 4th: My Favorite Listener         110 Likes, 10 Reblogs, 0 Commenters 5th: The Princess and The Hawk: Part One          97 Likes, 11 Reblogs, 1 Commenter  6th: The Princess and The Hawk: Part Two            71 Likes, 9 Reblogs, 1 Commenter 7th: Trapped          42 Likes, 3 Reblogs, 0 Commenters 8th: All Grown Up          41 Likes, 8 Reblogs, 0 Commenters 9th: Taking Care of Number One          32 Likes, 5 Reblogs, 0 Commenters 10th: Oh Raven (Sing Me a Happy Song)          26 Likes, 3 Reblogs, 0 Commenters
Note: I list commenters instead of comments because some people make several comments. I also remove counts for reblogs I did for myself and comments asking for tag list.
Archive of Our Own Results
Most Popular Fic for 2020 by Kudos(Likes): The Princess and The Hawk  [Hawks | Keigo Takami]
I was so shocked by the amount of love this got on BOTH platforms. I’m not even a big Hawks fan but I’m glad it came out so well and made so many people happy. Wish I hadn’t had as much trouble getting part two done as I did though.
Most Popular Fic for 2020 by Hits(Views): Father Figure: Punishment [Eraserhead | Shouta Aizawa]
Y’all nasty.❤ Keep going.
Total Results for Each Fic (By Kudos):

Note: Comments are ‘comment threads’ started by a single person. There are a lot more individual comments since I try and reply to comments when I can.
My Thoughts
Let’s start with Tumblr.
My first take away is, sadly, OCs get a lot less love than Readers. I understand that it can make it easy to insert yourself into the story mentally but I’ve always preferred a good OC story.
There is just some stuff that a reader fic can’t cover. I have stories with OCs because they need personal names or physical descriptions for the plot of the story. I wish OC had more love like it did when I was younger.
However, I am also very willing to do Reader stuff - as you can see - and will do so. I just hope that when I do another OC story it will get more love.
I’m so sad about how little love ‘All Grown Up’ got, it’s personally my favorite fic from the year. I could probably remake it as Reader and 2nd person, I just made it OC/3rd because it felt like a better choice for the plot at the time.
My next notice is, and this one is well known, REBLOGS matter. All my top ranking fics also had a ton of reblogs. I love seeing a like, knowing someone enjoyed the story, but a reblog can make such a difference in getting noticed.
Timing Matters. My top fic got a lot of notice because it was reblogged but also because it was posted on Hawks bday. Same goes for Shouta’s Present. Use special days to your advantage.
Lastly, no one comments. Please, please feel free to talk more. Just a little <3 in the comments area can make an author smile. Or a keyboard smash or a *scream* or anything. Personally, I LOVE hearing what your favorite line or scene was. I know these are often sent via asks as well, but I love seeing them in the fic’s comments as well.
Next, Ao3.
First, I was surprised at the ranking differences between the sites. I think this is due to how much easier it is to find a fic on ao3 with their searches. This isn’t a huge surprise, it is a site made for fanfics so of course it’s easier to find something than tumblr but I still expected a similar result.
Next, People don’t like as much compared to viewing the fic itself. I tend to see a 1:10 ratio for kudos to hits. Some people don’t like looking at hits due to this, thinking people don’t enjoy the fic after reading.
However, my take is that I like hits as well as kudos since I’ve been told by a few of my readers that they come BACK to read stuff so kudos doesn’t always show the real love.
There are plenty of re-reads but I also think some people just don’t hit kudos because of their own reasons. I see the hits number as what it is, someone read the fic and that makes me happy.
Again with comments, it’s better but I think that is only due to the fact I have a big chuck at the bottom of each fic asking the reader to comment. LLF Comment Project to thank for that.
In the end though
I’m just overwhelmed and happy that ANYONE paid attention to me among all the other amazing authors that transverse both sites.

EVERYBODY SHUT THE FRONT DOOR! NO, SHUT THE BACK DOOR! AND THE SIDE DOOR!
SHUT ALL THE DOORS, DAMMIT!
So this is a thing that's happening. I'm very, VERY excited for the release of the book, I'm on vacation at the minute so can't pre-order but will as soon as I get home!
Yes, I will be attending this event, though, because I live in Ireland, I will have to do it virtually. At, like, ten o'clock at night. I'm aware of the time difference and I am more than willing to sacrifice part of a night's sleep to do this.
I hope they take questions from online attendees...

Stop the World
Bangalore leapt into the shack when she heard the first bombs of the airstrike pierce the ground. She kicked the door closed and turned sharply to face Pathfinder, crouched in the corner recharging his shields.
“Where is she?” Bangalore asked through gritted teeth. Pathfinder’s viewscope shifted uneasily in his socket.
“I am sure she is close,” he said in his happy voice, which only pissed her off more. He placed his empty shield cell gently onto the floor and she kicked it across the room where it ricocheted off the wall and hit him in the back of the head.
“You seem upset, should I play a classic rock and roll ballad?” Ever since she told him what music she was into he’d been trying to relate to her. It was annoying.
“No,” she said, walking up the stairs. She un-holstered her weapon, listening for their currently absent third teammate. Then she heard it.
From the roof, Bloodhound’s tracker screeched. She felt the soft tingle of the thermalwave wash over her, outlining her form to the hunter.
She had about 2 seconds.
She slid back down the stairs, using her hand signals to communicate to Pathfinder,
One on roof.
He nodded and signalled back to her,
One underneath.
She nodded affirmative. A third teammate would be really great right about now, she thought as she clenched her jaw tighter. She heard Bloodhound crash into the door above. Pathfinder moved quickly out of view from the stairs and each of them pressed their bodies against opposite walls.
A movement from the far window caught her eye. She switched weapons to the Peacekeeper shotgun. They were flanked, but wouldn’t go down easily.
Pathfinder opened fire with his R-99 as the Bloodhound descended the stairs. Bangalore took the cue and fired at them from behind. The shotgun and submachine gun made quick work of Bloodhound, who was only able to get a few shots off into Pathfinder’s shield before dropping. Pathfinder hurried to Bloodhound and traded his shield for theirs.
“Thank you!” he said cheerily. Behind them, the door banged open and Lifeline let off a full Peacekeeper round into Pathfinder. He stumbled sideways but Bangalore was there in retaliation. She shot a round into Lifeline and she careened around the shack trying to get better positioning.
Just as Bangalore was lining up the armor breaking shot on her, the opposite door smashed open. The small yellow disc flew into the room and hit the ground with a thud. Everyone looked towards it as the trap inflated and burst, filling the room with nox gas.
Bangalore swore. She tried to shield her eyes and shot blindly towards where the Lifeline used to be. She stumbled towards the stairs, taking shots from Caustic as he navigated the gas. She felt her armor break. As she mounted the top of the stairs on her hands and knees, her nose and eyes watering, her throat closing up, she saw Pathfinder above her, reigning fire down on Caustic as he tried to pursue her. She heard Caustic’s armor break and he retreated.
Bangalore breathed heavy at the top of the stairs, stumbling towards a corner. Pathfinder paced restlessly, his spring loaded legs slamming the floorboards. He kept watching the exits and windows, always going back to the stairs to make sure the Caustic wasn’t coming back. He would surely be recharging his armor by now. She could hear faint sounds of footsteps outside and downstairs. She was down and they were about to get third-partied.
She knew Pathfinder had to make sure it was clear before he injected her with the adrenaline or they would both be toast, but it was impossible to tell with all the movement who was alive.
Then gunfire exploded downstairs. She knew it, another party. That was it for this round in the arena. Pathfinder looked at her, moving his metal claw to the slot where he kept the adrenaline. She shook her head. At least if Pathfinder made it out, they could still place. Maybe their teammate would grace him with her help, if she was even still alive. Pathfinder’s viewscope looked down and around, not knowing where to settle.
The gunfire stopped.
Pathfinder swung his gun around to the light footsteps pounding up the stairs.
Wraith got to the top and threw her hands up mockingly. So it wasn’t a third party after all.
“Stop, don’t shoot,” she said in a bored voice, walking casually over to Bagalore and pushing her down gently. She rummaged through her pack to find the adrenaline.
“You’re late,” said Bangalore. She tried to make it sound forceful, but she was seconds away from unconsciousness. Wraith removed the cap with her teeth.
“Hold still,” she said through the cap in her mouth. She plunged the needle into Bangalore’s chest. The jolt of adrenaline made her body jump and she sat up suddenly, taking quickened breaths.
“We’re happy to see you!” said Pathfinder. Bangalore shot him an ugly glare but he had already turned to recharge his armor.
“I almost died in this hut waiting for your ass,” said Bangalore, administering her own shield battery.
“I told you I’d be right back,” said Wraith, inserting a medstick in her arm. She wasn’t smiling but here eyes were.
“What part of ‘team’ do you not understand, I wonder.”
“Come on.”
“You come on! We can’t 2v3 every team we come across because you want to sneak around doing recon.”
“Bang,” said Wraith. “Only four teams left.”
Bangalore looked down at her leaderboard screen. She didn’t want to feel happy about this but she was. They could easily come out on top if they stuck together. She was torn between being pissed at Wraith and also moving forward to rally to the end.
“Will you stay on us this time?” she asked. Wraith squinted. A promise from Wraith might as well be none at all. She was only loyal to herself, which had always rubbed Bangalore the wrong way. But the least she could do was say she would stick with them. Wraith considered her answer.
“Sure,” she said finally. Bangalore exhaled and stood up, finishing the last of her medsticks.
“We have to do my plan, though,” added Wraith as a clause. Bangalore’s mouth turned into a thin line as she rounded on Wraith to start yelling. Pathfinder stood a few feet away typing on his chest keyboard.
“The situation seems tense, would you like me to play a love song?”
Banglore shouted no but Wraith said yes. Pathfinder hit play. I Melt With You by Modern English started to play out of his chest speakers. Pathfinder swayed.
“Goddamn it,” said Bangalore.”
“You don’t like this?” asked Wraith.
“I would like to win this round.”
“Me too!” said Pathfinder.
Pathfinder did a pirouette and Wraith looked out the window.
“Alright, so you’re on board with the plan?” asked Wraith.
“Do we have a choice?” said Banglore. Wraith shook her head no.
“We’re outside the Bunker now, but we have to get to the Cage - end circle is there.”
“Fine, but we’re not going through--”
“We have to go through the pass,” said Wraith. Bangalore slammed her fist against the wall, all of her tactical knowledge screaming negatives. The pass was the perfect place to be ambushed with no good escape if they got caught between two teams. Not to mention the circle was closing in 2 minutes.
“That’s suicide,” said Bangalore.
“True,” said Wraith. “But everyone else thinks that, too, so... it’ll probably be empty.”
Bangalore squinted at Wraith. As much as she had the tactics, Wraith always had the edge. If she was right, they could make it to the high ground at the Cage and have the advantage for the last fight. But she’d lost so many fights there, she still couldn’t decide.
“It’s suicide.”
“You said that already.”
“Friends,” said Pathfinder. “I have a zipline. We could get out quickly if needed!” He was still swaying happily to the music. Banglore considered the ring timer. The storm would hurt but if they could get to high ground for the last fight, it was the best chance they had. She knew it even if she didn’t like the plan.
“Okay,” she said as they both stood up, readying their gear. They jumped out of the shack, Pathfinder going first. They ran through the shallow river to cross it and up the muddy hill, the slope stretching upwards into the pass before them. Pathfinder covered the front, Wraith middle, and Bangalore back. Nobody was following them and they couldn’t see anyone ahead. They trudged all the way up to the start of the pass. Huge rocky walls closed in on them, ushering them to the dangerous clearing ahead. They got to the edge of the clearing and Wraith turned to Bangalore over her shoulder.
“Make sure you follow me this time,” she said, and ripped a portal into the air, using her void in the rift to speed herself through spacetime faster.
Bangalore and Pathfinder paused, waiting for the portal to become stable so they could take it through. They both watched, hearing nothing but the faint static of Wraith’s temporal disturbance. How long could this one portal take?
Alarms blared overhead Warning - Ring Closing.
The portal materialized and Bangalore stepped forward. Before she could enter, Wraith came tumbling out, sliding on her side and aiming towards the portal.
“I might have misjudged a few things,” she yelled. Bangalore and Pathfinder turned to face the portal entrance, guns drawn.
Gibralter came through after, shield up as the team let their bullets fly. The ring inched closer behind them.

A collection of six asks tumblr straight up won’t let me answer for some reason
@pileofgoldandadragon, @notaboyscout, @autumn-pines, @answrs, @rat-lesbian, @nightesaur apparently we’ve got to do this the old fashioned way because tumblr is a [insert word of your choice here]
Tumblr media
Of course! Amazon was kind enough to give me this in a preview since my copy of Good Omens is currently in another state:
Tumblr media
(Page 48, William Morrow, 2006, reprint edition)
So yeah, basically playing on the idea that Aziraphale miracles up bad smells to scare off his customers. I like to imagine that after Armageddon’t---after they’ve admitted to being fully Team Human and perhaps are more open to forming human relationships---that he gets a little kinder and only pulls that stunt on the customers who really deserve it. Mrs. I Want to Speak to Your Manager smells mold while everyone else gets the standard cocoa and old book smell :D

I AM GLAD I consider keyboard smashing this highest of compliments and am legit grinning right now 💜
Tumblr media
Thank you! I hope you have a lovely day as well! (Or night. Whatever time zone might be functioning right now.)
Tumblr media
That is wonderful to hear. Thank you so, so much for taking the time to tell me you enjoyed it because posting things---especially follow-up things---can be terrifying in the stupidest ways lol
Tumblr media
Thank you!! Also I’m still laughing at your username/icon. This is the third time I’ve tried to answer your ask and EVERY TIME I see that deer I full on crack up again.
Tumblr media
Oh man same hat, anon. I have the attention span of a hyperactive puppy and have been reduced to reading bullet-point fics here on tumblr and maybe managing 20min episodes of sitcoms/anime. Actual footage of Clyde 2019:

Review Response, June 9-15, 2019
Once again, I wasn’t at home yesterday so this got delayed, and once again that 1 day delay doesn’t change anything whatsoever.
... And whatever the hell happened to the horizontal line breaks?! Now I’m just manually making those lines with - like a sucker...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Destiny #006
1) Oh shit I finished the chapter so quickly it felt like it only lasted a couple minutes (though I know it’s a lot longer, I just got too eager). In any case, I was super excited to see White in this chap! I can’t wait to have her and Black interact, I absolutely love the way you write them (just like with Ruby and Sapphire kek). Speaking of Ruby and Sapphire: the jealousy from Sapphire’s side was on point! And I cannot wait for Sapphire’s reaction to Ruby’s answer. Btw nice sort of cliff hanger on that one. And tbh I have no idea what Ruby would say. I feel like he might say no because of Sapphire and the whole mega stone or keystone thing whatchamacallit, but again I’m not sure. Also, no? Blue answer your calls from Red? He’s worrying about you, love. All you need to do is answer and boom! On your way to happiness! Well. Sort of. I guess. Baby steps. But anyways, Dia’s (and Pearl’s no kidding) was adorable. And it made my little shipper heart happy, so kudos to you for that. And also I think it was great how you wrote Platinum as still polite yet attached; regal even when literally lying unconscious a couple minutes prior. It was so like her, and it still amazes me how on point you write these characters. Though admittedly Blue is not how she is in the manga (but that’s sort of the whole point, so like that’s what’s ideal). And so although you stay true to their personalities, it’s also great that you kept in mind how things would affect certain people and changes they way they behave in accordance to that. So kudos to you for that too. Also, definitely NOT going to be happy meeting Peter again in this story. I know it’s going to happen, but I can only hope that the guy spying on Blue (whom I assume is Peter) will not do anything to her, and if so isn’t revealed as Peter. Simply because I just don’t want to put up with his douchebaggery. Oof my reviews are long, but I get so caught up in it that I can’t help myself. Thank you again.
I do like writing with Black and White. But unfortunately, they are just 2 of MANY Dex Holders, so they won’t be getting as much focus as you’d like, especially since they’re particularly high on my Preference List. Damn. That said, when there’s one, there’s always the other with these two. Inseparable!
Indeed. All Blue has to do is answer Red’s call and everything becomes just fine. Another parallel to Legacy, if you will. In Destiny, Blue ignored the calls out of her fears and thus sh*t happens. In Legacy, Blue answered the call, and thus she was able to attain true happiness! But Destiny is the “mid-point” between SA and Legacy. The “mid-point” of the pairing shift. Blue’s progression towards Red has to be a gradual one.
Oh, Platinum. She must always retain her elegance, even if she had just gotten absolutely stomped a minute prior. That’s what makes her... her, you know?
Blue’s character traits of melancholy and depression (when alone) is mostly canon, but her steps towards rampancy is a... personality extrapolation given the canon. If she was to be pushed a certain way, how would she react? That kind of thing.
I’m loving your long reviews! But I do notice that it’s been a month since you started Destiny, and this is chapter 6. Out of 43. ... Hmm...

Wings #001
1) Hello, hello! Right from the start, this story was surprising to see since I remembered that you said that you didn't like these sorts of high school AU things. I've only seen bits and pieces of this story being mentioned, but I didn't expect this sort of thing! The start was amusing; I found it funny how Y was paying attention to the way she looked, but by the end, I understand y now, and I feel sorry for the poor chap that ruined her reputation already.
Hey, you started on Wings! Yay!
Yep, I absolutely detest high school AU stories. But only because they’re all mostly the same thematically. Wings aims to avoid every single one of those common themes.
1) Self insert: I am not putting in “myself” with a disguise of the main character in a high school AU to “relive” high school but with my desired outcomes. No. Y in Wings is nothing like me. In fact, I’m basing Y’s aggression based on a web comic series I’ve seen years ago. And my high school “outcomes” were mostly identical to my desires anyways, so... meh.
2) Unpopular girl main character: My understanding of the main characters in “those high school AUs” is that the girls are always like timid and unpopular and gets bullied by the “pretty and popular” mean girls until the main character eventually triumphs once the “popular guy” falls in love and... blech. ... What do you think will happen in Wings if the “pretty and popular” mean girls were to bully Y? Yeah. Wings is nothing like those types of stories.
3) Romance: Y doesn’t give a f*ck about love in Wings. Some “cute popular” boy makes a move on her, she gives him the finger and then walks away. The end.
4) “(Name) is a normal girl attending high school and-”: ... Y is not normal. Yes, she wants a normal high school life, but literally right off the bat, I smashed that wish because Wings cannot be remotely similar to any of “those high school AUs”.
And on and on.
I’m glad you thought it was amusing! Wings is intended to be purely for fun. Especially later on as more shenanigans happens.
... But I’m curious that you’re leaving a GUEST review, instead of the signed one, currently with the ID of... er... ... keyboard mashing. Hmm...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wings #002
1) It's nice to see the Kalos group coming together! I still haven't finished reading the XY arc of the manga, but it's nice to see Y and Shauna's interactions. I like how you gave a brief insight to Shauna's life in her middle school years; getting bullied sucks, and it must have been hard for her if she prefers to be friends with someone who is viewed negatively and lowers her own reputation down, rather than increasing the chances of getting bullied again. Maybe I'm just overthinking this, but it's still nice! And for X...dang, I feel sorry for him...salt and pepper in his eyes and mouth? That was extreme. Overall, a pretty great chapter! It was amusing from the way X and Shauna unintentionally contributed to lowering Y's reputation in her classroom, and to watch Y beat up intimidating students was funny to imagine.
Yep. Y and Shauna will be one of those “BFFs”, but... not really like those. I have to retain Shauna’s canon personality, which is a bit... sarcastic? So she’ll have a more “cool” friendship with Y instead of those “omg hug” types or whatever. F*ck those.
Hmm... Shauna having a bad middle school experience is not really intentional, but it does make sense, if you think about it like that. But it could also be that Shauna just finds hanging out with Y to be amusing.
X getting salt and pepper poured into his face is LOOSELY based on what I went through in high school, where some prick randomly poured a packet’s worth of salt on my head (getting all that damn salt out of my hair took absolutely forever), and so I took revenge by emptying at least 30 packets of salt and pepper into a sheet of paper and then pouring all that into his hair the next day. So... poor me, poor that kid, and poor X. Hehe.
Oh, there will be more instances of Shauna inadvertently worsening Y’s reputation, with real and fake stories. But Y won’t really mind since it’ll already be too late. There’s no turning back with her reputation now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wings #003
1) Like a bolt from the blue, it's time for a (ratherlatethanintended) review! I really missed the way you write and how you describe everything in detail. Really helps me visualize everything! I know that's the point of writing, but your writing style is effective since I tend to zone out whenever I read something too long. Plus, the way you have each chapter structured keeps things interesting. My interest in piqued with each passing chapter! I'm thoroughly enjoying this story so far.
Okay onto the chapter itself! I like how Grace is supportive of Y's choices even when her daughter's being really violent in school, though perhaps it's because Grace was a delinquent herself when she was younger? Maybe?
And the way X behaves and reacts whenever Y is around is both amusing and sad. Very traumatic for him I'm sure. I do hope that his and Y's relationship as friends improve as chapters go by.
Faitsu and Crystal finally appears so I'm happy about that! I hope more familiar faces appear soon! Speaking of which, I felt like the teacher at the end of chapter 1 could turn out to be someone we know, but I don't know if that's just me. (It's not at all possible due to your preferences, but I keep thinking it's Green, even though he's in the void of nonexistence.)
Getting decked in the face by a soccer ball...hah. What a way to meet your future teammate! ...assuming she ends up joining the soccer club that is.
Overall, a great chapter! I like how lively everyone is, even the nameless students!
Ehehe... thank you! I’m glad you’re enjoying this deviation of a story of mine. After all, I’d never make another high school AU, ever, and this is the only one, so... it’s quite the deviant.
My thoughts on Grace is that she’s kind of a cool mother. ... Though I think that’s more... er... non XY arc. Hmm... Well, like mother like daughter... right?? Hehehe...
Oh, X and Y will be GOOD friends as time passes! Can’t have Y stressing out the poor boy, now can I? He will certainly prove to be a good supportive friend, though... not physically supporting (later on).
Faitsu and Crystal (and Black, technically) have appeared! More and more familiar faces will appear and be mentioned as time passes, of course. In fact, most everyone will be in Wings. Red, Blue, Gold, Crystal, Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, Black, White, Faitsu, X, Y, Sun, and Moon! ... Even Sword and Shield, if Wings lasts long enough. ... So... no, Green is not in Wings, since he has been banished into the void for eternity.
Yep. Decked in the face. And bloodshed. Real hard to get by ONE day without bloodshed, eh? Hehehe.
I look forward to seeing your review for the 4th chapter!

Sleepy Kisses - Caitlin Snow x Meta!Reader
A/n: I found this really cute prompt on pinterest and I’m not sure who its by because its been pinned and reblogged over and over but its basically:
“Imagine person A of your OTP trying to secretly kiss person B’s cheek while they’re asleep but person B shifts and A accidentally kisses their mouth and pulls back flustered and looks down at a wide eyed B who pulls them back for a real kiss.” - (this is not my prompt, I take no credit for the prompt, I’m just applying it to a fic)
It had been a long day at S.T.A.R Labs in Central City, Barry and Iris had already gone home, Cisco left afterwards, dragging Harry with him as you and Caitlin continued working. It had been silent throughout the labs besides the machine hum and tapping of keyboards with the occasional clinking of test tubes.
You’d began to feel exhaustion take you over, a numbness in your legs as your eyes grew more and more desperate to close when you stopped fighting to stay awake, your head leaning to the side as your chair leaned back, breathing slowed as your brainwaves adjusted from beta waves to theta, drifting into a deeper sleep without Caitlin noticing.
Caitlin was distracted by her work when she finally noticed the time begin 23:32, a frown over her features as she realised you were both still here. “Y/n we better-Y/n?” Caitlin questioned, looking over to you at your desk to see your eyes closed and arms limp at your sides.
A blush flooded over Caitlin’s face as she glanced at a note Killer Frost had left, almost teasing her about her crush on you. She didn’t even realised she’d left her desk until she arrived in front of your sleeping body. A smile graced her face, gently moving away a strand of hair from your face before leaning down to press a chaste kiss to your cheek when your head moved as your body shifted in your desk chair, your face now facing Caitlin as she kissed you.
Caitlin’s face burned as she stared down at you, your e/c eyes wide in shock and almost confusion before you moved, hand going to Caitlin’s cheek as you pulled her back in, lips almost smashing together before oxygen became a necessity.
“Is it bad if I say that was a lovely thing to wake up to?” You questioned causing Caitlin to raise an eyebrow, her ears burning as warmth flooded her body.
“I like you okay... well...more than like...I’m.... I think I’m in love with you Caitlin Snow...” You admitted causing Caitlin to grin in response.
“I’m...in love with you to Y/n S/n.” Caitlin admitted in return causing you to grin.
“Where do we go from here?” You questioned before looking at the time.
“I’d say home to sleep then come in at 8pm tomorrow but I’d feel safer if you’d stay the night at mine on the couch... Barry’s not on night patrol and who knows what’s out there...” Caitlin began but you finished her sentence.
“I trust you to protect me if necessary Snowflake...” causing Caitlin to give you a playful glare.
“Then let’s go, *insert nickname based on metahuman powers of your choice*” Caitlin replied, taking your hand as the two of you packed up for the night, leaving the labs hand in hand, almost pressed against each other in the darkness with the comfort of the street lights above....

Project Warlock – Review
For me, there is nothing like taking a break from all the cover-based shooting, open worlds and stealth mechanics with a well-crafted first person shooter. These games are like the taking shots at the bar: They may not be as fancy as wine or as intricate as a cocktail, but they are hard, fast, and guarantee a night to remember!
However, I am hardly thinking of the AAA military shooters that cause angry fans to break the internet every year. No, no. What gets the job done are shooting arenas, an arsenal that would make a warlord drool, and legions of monsters begging to be introduced to your shotgun. What is needed is a classic, arcade shooter.
I was therefore excited to dig my claws into Buckshot Software’s latest indie title named Project Warlock. It has been some time since I tasted that sweet violence only this genre of games can provide, and Project Warlock seemed an excellent place to ‘get back into the game’ so to speak. Ferocious enemies, perilous environments, many weapons to choose from… its all here!
Whoops… might have squeezed the trigger a little hard there…
Unfortunately, my experience with this game fell tragically short of my anticipation. While it boasts all the right features on paper, Project Warlock just makes too many stupid mistakes in its execution. I would be lying if I said my overall experience was a positive one.
Shoot first, ask questions later
Much like every run-and-gun FPS on this planet, the story counts as much as crust on pizza. You play as, you guessed it, a unnamed warlock that has to rid the world of evil monsters and their overlords. Players will basically just shoot the crap out of everything across five main worlds ranging from medieval castles, frozen wastelands, Egyptian deserts and urbanized dystopias, before facing off against the ultimate source of all evil in hell.
It is generic, but it’s all you need. Each world features 5 main missions along with one boss fight. These 5 missions are then divided further into smaller gameplay episodes generally lasting around 6-8 minutes each. You spend your time massacring monsters, searching for multicoloured keys, and making your way through the maze-like levels while keeping an eye out for secrets.
Health. Put every damn XP point on health.
The reason why Project Warlock’s missions are so chopped up is that this game contains absolutely no checkpoints or quick saves. Your progress is only saved at the ‘Workshop’ once you complete an entire mission. If you die during an episode, there is the option of using an extra life to restart the episode from the beginning. No lives? You have to replay the ENTIRE mission.
Most players will find out soon that this game is seriously challenging; even on easy difficulty, most enemies can kill the warlock in a few hits. Playing on the hardest difficulty must be an exercise in outright masochism, unless brutal challenges are your idea of a turn-on.
Pixel perfect
So let us consider the good, the bad, and end with the ugly. What Project Warlock absolutely nails down to the last pixel is its visual presentation. Much like the classic FPS games of old, namely Doom, Heretic and Wolfenstein, this game embraces a visual theme composed of low polygonal environments with sprite-based enemies.
As such, textures, objects and particle effects appear as if they have been plucked straight off an old Pentium 1 machine, but Buckshot Games have used the Unity Engine to add some nice, modern lighting effects. Much like Octopath: Traveler, the final effect is a pleasant fusion of flat sprites that still manage to impart a three-dimensional feeling to the overall visual style.
No effects
More pixels!
Players are even given the option to activate additional visual features like even more heavily-pixelated textures, or classic CRT styling if you really want to go old school. These small little touches shows how Project Warlock strives to be authentically retro in its presentation, and it honestly made me feel like I was a kid again at times. Yes I am THAT old!
This girl is on FIYAAAAAA… man I love Alecia Keys.
The darkness descends
Most unfortunately, Buckshot Games wasted the game’s visual potential by making many environments too dark. I get that they wanted to give the game a more somber tone, but I often struggled to see what was going on. This was totally unnecessary as Project Warlock would certainly have been more visually appealing if it had a more colourful and varied texture palette.
To make matters worse, some levels take place in almost total blackness. The game does provide the player with one spell that throws a small circle of light, but this cannot be used simultaneously with a weapon. Seriously, have we learnt nothing from the whole Doom 3 flashlight fiasco!?
Let us risk a little more light… more… more… more…. and more… little more….
The light spell was not the only useless magical trick. In fact virtually all of the spells I unlocked in the workshop were all a waste of upgrade points (which are really hard to find by the way). A ball of lightning that floats in mid-air and shocks individual enemies sounds cool, until you learn it barely does damage.
So you opt for the magical axe that can be summoned to slash at your foe, right? Might as well wack yourself with the worthless thing for all the good it does. The final nail in the coffin is that I often experienced a bug where the magical spells would not even go off. This usually happened when I loaded into a level for the first time. Not good.
Just shoot me
The one thing that has always defined arcade shooters since Doom in 1993 is that they make you feel super powerful. When Duke Nukem or Serious Sam pick up their guns and put on sunglasses, you know its on. Given the ridiculous irony of not choosing to use magic in a game called Project Warlock, the gunplay better had be very good, and for the most part it is top-notch.
The sound design in particular is impressive. The guns create delightful booms and bangs which later had me casting apologetic looks at my subwoofer… before taking aim at a flying devil lady and KABLAM!
My girfriend when I leave the cap off the toothpaste…
Every enemy that ends on the receiving end of your gun explodes into a gorgeous mess off flying giblets and blood everywhere, which really adds the cherry on top of a great shooting experience. The warlock even has a wood cutter’s axe as a melee weapon that makes a wonderful ‘WOOSH’ sound right before chopping whatever is bothering you in two.
Descending into Hell
Still, the engaging gun action and nostalgic visual impact fail to distract from the really silly flaws at play here. While the opening sections of the game show a lot more attention to level design and gameplay, it is as if the developers just lost their perspective as they were creating the final areas.
Dark Souls games have taught us that a game cannot just be hard for its own sake. A game’s difficulty must exist as a fair challenge for the player to do better. The player might not have the skills to overcome certain obstacles yet, but they must have the tools.
However, when I flip a switch and four robots capable of killing with one or two shots spawn all around me in pitch darkness, that is neither fun nor exciting. That is just poor enemy placement rather than a enjoyable challenge. Don’t forget: You will be forced to replay the entire mission from the start if you run out of extra lives.
I really do not understand why the developers thought it wise to insert these scenarios so frequently into the game’s latter half since it nearly ruined my whole experience.  The only challenge I got from all of this was trying not smash my keyboard through the screen.
The simple addition of a quick save option might have alleviated much of the ham-fisted difficulty curve, and it was therefore a silly but crucial oversight. I know that is not how things were done in the golden days, but Project Warlock paid enough respects to the past through its visuals. It is not essential to bring in every single aspect of retro shooters just for the sake of authenticity.
Stay right there sphinx boss! Now, I will take my flashlight out but don’t even think about moving!
Then there are the boss fights. Did Buckshot Games never play Serious Sam? Now THAT is how you make a player face off against a colossal enemy. What you don’t do is give the boss almost hit-scanning weapons while endlessly spawning lesser enemies on the ground. Even if the boss fight is a separate level, dying means replaying the entire previous mission if you want another go at it. Another design choice that simply baffles me.
This game could have been an excellent homage to everything that made the proto-FPS titles the quintessential video game experiences of their day. Sadly, what little potential it shows cannot outshine its numerous design faults. As it stands, I find it hard to recommend Project Warlock to anyone other than people who absolutely relish difficult games, or those waiting for the next Doom mod to arrive.
Nostalgic art style
Sound design
Variety between levels
Satisfying gun play
Poorly constructed boss fights
Warlock game with useless spells
Frustrating difficulty spike
Several levels are too dark
Shoddy enemy placement
Playtime: 8 hours total for single player campaign
Computer Specs: Windows 10 64-bit computer using GTX 1070, i5 4690K, 16GB RAM

AK: Hey, G-LO, do anything for Record Store Day this year?
G-LO: Sure didn’t make it to a record store. I’ll blame those damn kids of mine for missing out on the fun. How about you?
AK: I took a kid to a record store. And it was my kid. The 17 year old daughter. She’s got the vinyl bug. It’s not an actual bug cuz I ain’t paying for a de-lousing.
G-LO: Whew! Been there with the lice! Never fun. Interestingly enough, the Great Lice Incident of 2010 happened while I was at a Whisky Extravaganza, so I didn’t have to deal with it. I got lucky for once and dodged some critters. Thank god for whisky!
AK: It is THE best medicine.
G-LO: Amen, Brother! Did the kid buy any vinyl?
AK: She did. She’s not like me. I was flipping through every record in every bin in a store when I was her age. She’s focused, unlike me.
https://vimeo.com/265386725
G-LO: I remember those days. I skipped my high school senior prom and went vinyl hunting on South Street instead. I mostly bought used LPs. We were crazy for vinyl back in the day. So many record stores in Philly, especially used ones. We’d occasionally road trip to a place called Plastic Fantastic in Villanova. Or was it Bryn Mawr?
AK: Here too. Big stores and little independent ones. I worked at The Wherehouse in college. Think they were only in California. But they were big time store. Fun working there. Fueled my own vinyl bug.
G-LO: God, we’re old.
AK: Yes, yes we are. But these are good memories.
G-LO: I concur. We were a bunch of music and vinyl junkies back then. So much fun.
AK: I loved flipping through the bins. Spent many days doing that. Took the kid to Amoeba Records in Hollywood for all the Record Store Day festivities. She got her four albums, and I got bupkis. And the bill.
G-LO: Ain’t that always how it goes? Ahhhhh, the joys of parenting!
AK: I used to buy lots of used and cut-outs on account of me being cheap. You’d be shocked about the prices today. Just insane.
G-LO: I don’t wanna know.
AK: No, sir, you do not. That being said, I love that she has the vinyl bug. My 1,000+ record collection has an heir!
G-LO: Or at the very least, a way to fund a month of college tuition. One word: eBay.
AK: Thanks for reminding me about the cost of higher education.
G-LO: Wait. 1,000+???
AK: Used to be 2,000+, but when Offspring #3 arrived and space at home became… scarce, I sold off about half of them. I didn’t really need a picture disc of Journey’s second album, did I?
G-LO: Yes, you did, Mr. Perry. You stopped believin!
AK: Sadly, I did. So they’re all in boxes in my office at work waiting for their triumphant return to the castle.
G-LO: I sold my 350+ collection when I got married.
AK: I would have bought them!
G-LO: Hoarder!
AK: Watch your mouth, Sonny!
G-LO: Ever see High Fidelity?
AK: Love that movie! The book is great too.
G-LO: YES! I think the Jack Black character was inspired by the guy that refused to buy my albums. All I remember is him calling over his buddy and saying something like, “Yo, Mitch! Check it out! Aqualung. Never saw that one before.”
AK: Your buyer didn’t want your Cecilio & Kapono collection?
G-LO: I kid you not. I sold many things when I got married. And 19 years later, they’ve all come back. Vinyl. Steel frame bike.
AK: What goes around, comes around. I’ve often thought how my vinyl record life and my whisky life never intersected. I fondly remember sitting back for an evening of record playing. With a soda pop or some cheap booze.  Would’ve been great to have a dram or two while reading the liner notes.
G-LO: Totally! I kinda miss album art and liner notes. Used to study those things ad nauseum. Dates. Musicians. Producers. I’d have it all memorized.
AK: Me too!  Like baseball data.  Those CD’s are not for old man eyes. The iPhone is convenient but not exactly the same as a gatefold double LP to hold in your hands.
G-LO: So true. First serious album you ever bought? And “Ernie’s Greatest Hits” doesn’t count, Big Bird.
AK: I don’t remember the first LP. But the first single was…”Bungle in the Jungle”. Jethro Tull. It all comes back to Mr. Aqualung, my friend.
G-LO: For me, I think it was Billy Joel’s “52nd Street”. Or maybe the Star Wars soundtrack? I remember saving up for two months to buy that! Donna Summer’s “Greatest Hits”. Had that too. And a poster of her sitting on one of those big old radios.
AK: $3.99 was a lot of money back then! Double albums. A bit more. I recall doubles being $11.99 in the late 70s-early 80’s. Again, you don’t want to know the price today. I wish someone could figure out how to put our vinyl love together with our boozy love.
G-LO: Funny you mention that.
AK: I’m a funny guy.
G-LO: With a face that only a mother could love.
AK: Not my mother
G-LO: Mine neither. Booze and Vinyl.
AK: Booze and Vinyl. That should be the name of a book or something.
G-LO: Guess you haven’t checked your mailbox lately. Seriously. Go check!
AK: It’s a long walk to the mail box at the end of our estate. Hold on. I’ll take a jog. Back in about 15 minutes. Unless I take the horse.
G-LO: Ride like the wind, Bullseye!
60 minutes and 18 seconds later…
AK: I’m back! Jeez, we really need to get a new horse or get a moving sidewalk, though that would probably require moving the tennis court and the Roman fountains. Let’s see, what did the mail carrier bring today? Bill, bill, bill, junk mail, bill, bill, tax lien, bill, Publisher’s Clearing House, TV Guide, bill, occupant, occupant, Reader’s Digest., Highlights, Life, Amazon, Amazon, Amazon, bill. What’s this? A book?! Booze and Vinyl? What the heck?!
G-LO: Indeed! It’s like they know us.
AK:They? Now I’m worried.  This is way better than another Christmas catalog and Target ad!
G-LO: Totally! I’ve been perusing it for a couple weeks now. Love the concept! Thirst inducing AND it has me kicking myself (which isn’t easy thanks to my bursitis!) for selling my vinyl.
AK: I love the cover! Though I’m appalled that the records aren’t alphabetized and in clear plastic covers! Ok, I was a tad anal about my collection. I’m sorry.
G-LO: Never kept my albums in plastic, but they were alphabetized by artist and then in order by release date.
AK: Good man. If you’re gonna do it, do it right. I love the look of this book. Pretty neat that the writers pair albums with cocktails and give you the recipes! Brilliant!
G-LO: I’ve tried to go digital with all things and rarely buy books. This one would lose something on a Kindle. Love the feel of the paper and the photography. So so pretty! And just the right size too.
AK: Divided up by kind of music. Good, because I don’t like all music! I’m a snob!
G-LO: Yes, you are. And you don’t drink beer. Seriously, what’s wrong with you?
AK: Spun way too many records in my time probably.
G-LO: No doubt. There are some delicious sounding cocktails in here. Nice mix of classics, riffs on classics, and a couple “Why didn’t I think of that?” ones.
AK: It’s a very well thought out concept for a book. What booze goes with what music or album? It’s a recipe for a party, dinner party, date night, or a solo night.
G-LO: Absolutely! But there is one risk, Mr. Anal Retentive Record Collector: Scratched records and booze spills on records!
AK: That’s two risks. But this is a book for adults, not pimply faced kids who are trying to fire up some cash for a sixer (as opposed to a Sixer) and a bag of Cheetos. It’s adult reading about adult activities. Insert your own joke here.
G-LO: Good point! I love background music when I’m drinking. Adds to the experience.
AK: And this is the kind of book that would be perfect to read while spinning a record with a cocktail in hand. Interesting thoughts on the vinyl and the recipes.  Plenty to give one pause… between sips.
G-LO: They got their mise en scene on fo’sho!
AK: Brother and sister writing team. Wonder how they came up with the list of records and drinks. Probably no fighting at all. Siblings love each other, right?
G-LO: Some do. Some don’t. This book ain’t their first rodeo. Lots of drinks and record spinning is my guess.
AK: Booze can be inspiring. All in the name of research!
G-LO: Until you get poo-faced.
AK: Ick
G-LO: Exactly.
AK: Quick! What are  your five desert island discs from the book?
G-LO: “London Calling”, The Clash. Buena Vista Social Club. “Kind of Blue”, Miles Davis. “What’s Goin On”, Marvin Gaye. “In the Wee Small Hours of the Evening” by The Chairman of the Board.  You?
AK: Jeez! That was fast!  Hmmm.  The Cars first album, Pogues “Rum Sodomy and the Lash”, The Doors first album, Sinatra, AC/DC “Back In Black”.  Wish Frank could’ve done a few covers off that one!
G-LO: Respect! Ask me tomorrow and I’ll have five different discs for ya.
AK: I hear that! Quick! Five cocktails from the book to go with your choices.
G-LO: Whiskey Smash! Godfather! Aviation! Suffering Bastard! Old Fashioned! BOOM! Yours?
AK: Old Fashioned, Gin & Tonic, Whiskey Smash, Smoking Martini, Manhattan! BOOM!
G-LO: Yowza! I really like cocktails.

AK: Ok, Disc Doctor, why’d you choose those records?
G-LO: It was about mood. Chilly and rainy day. Making picks while on the train. They just spoke to me.
AK: This is the neat thing about a book like this. It promotes conversation. Just like whisky!
G-LO: Plus, those discs are legit.
AK: Mood really is a factor. Weather too. I’ve been on a Cars thing since they’ve been getting some buzz again after getting into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
G-LO: Absolutely. Two weeks ago I was all about Jack White and all of his music permutations. Tonight, I’m all into Tom Waits.
AK: The only part of a song I can play on a keyboard is from “Moving In Stereo”.  Here, I’ll show you… oh, wait… never mind.
G-LO: That’s one more song than I can play.  I have zero musical talent.
AK: That Pogues album is so Irish. There’s pain, drinking, and pain, and drinking.
G-LO: Ever hear Lewis Black and his bit about the Irish?
AK: No
G-LO: Name three albums that you would add to the book. Go!
AK: Mark Lanegan “The Winding Sheet”. Metallica “The Black Album”. Rush “Permanent Waves”. Now you!
G-LO: “Rain Dogs” by Tom Waits. “Wish You Were Here” by Pink Floyd. “Exile on Main Street” by The Rolling Stones.
AK: We’re on a roll! Thinking about our friend, Rob Gard. Didn’t he say something like “no cocktail should have more that four ingredients, and one of those has to be ice”?  Those are my kind of cocktails. Not too complicated, yet tasty.
G-LO: Sounds right. The Darlingtons must be friends of Rob. Turn to pages 12 and 13. Me thinks I’m gonna have a 2 ingredient cocktail.
AK: This is my kind of list! Fifty plus cocktails with 2-3 ingredients! This is my language considering my limited bar and language skills. Rob and the Darlingtons would get along famously!
G-LO: Totally! These crazy Booze and Vinyl kids live in Philly.
AK: WTF? In your ‘hood! Booze and Vinyl party at The Barthenon!
G-LO: Apparently! They had a couple of events for the launch last week and the week before. Damn kids and work got in my way! Two questions… Whatcha listening to? And, whatcha drinking?
AK: I got three answers.
G-LO: Show off!
AK: I actually have the Cars on. And I’m killing a bottle of Creative Whisky Co. Islay bottling.  And my third answer is “C”.
G-LO: “C” is how I passed tests in college. It was also my final grade more often than not.
AK: As long as your above sea level, it’s a-ok. What’s playing there and in the glass in front of you, maestro?
G-LO: Rain Dogs. Cause it’s raining.  Be right back with a drink!
AK: I’ll be right here.
G-LO: Smokin’ Hot Ginger rides again!
Ladies and Gentlemen, say hello to Smokin’ Hot Ginger! . . One part @laphroaig #Cairdeas. . Two parts @fevertreemixers Ginger Beer. . Lots of ice. . Wedge of lime. . Cheers! . . #whisky #laphroaig #booze #gingerbeer #spicy #smoky #cocktail #drinks #refreshing #spirits #video #timelapse #mixology

AK: That sure is pretty!
G-LO: And tasty! Pairs well with Mr. Waits.
AK: Thumbing through this book is really fun. There are food recipes too. Boozy Honey Chicken sandwiches with honey and avocado slaw. Yum!
G-LO: Led Zep-Loin! Oh yeah! That sandwich sounds awesome.
AK: It’s a book that covers a lot of areas but doesn’t seem busy or over the top, or even unfocused. There’s some pretty easy home bar tips and hints in the back too. Too often you see all the fun sucked out of drinking by making it all too complicated. Stop being nerdy, people! Have fun!
G-LO: I agree. To be honest, I don’t read many drinks books. Especially the history ones. They get boring after awhile. But this book is like a great pop song. It has a hook.
AK: And it’s not dumbed down at all. It’s a conversation starter!
G-LO: And it’s not condescending either, like you.
AK: I condescend because I care. It wasn’t thrown together like those cheap coffee table books on the bargain table at Barnes & Nobles. Those things ARE the dumbing down of America.
G-LO:The sister of this dynamic duo teaches writing at St. Joe’s University in Philly. Go, Hawks! I wanna take one of her classes. Lord knows my writing could use some work!
AK: Sign up! You can be the Rodney Dangerfield of St. Joe’s U. G-LO stars in Back to School!  The Triple Lindy of all Triple Lindies!
G-LO: I don’t get any respect either. I’m a Melon!
AK: This book would be great on a coffee table or on a bookshelf. It’s fun reading and a fun conversation piece.
G-LO: I’ve been carrying it around in my briefcase. Reading it on the train.  Like I said, it’s just the right size!
AK: Fun idea how each album gets a “genre”, year, “when to spin”, “liner notes”, and a “before you drop the needle” note that gets a little wacky.
G-LO: Why didn’t we think of this?! And the Side A / Side B bit is priceless!
AK: It’s a book of album reviews, though they do like them all; and paired cocktail recipes. Just a neat concept. I think I was hoping for all of the songs listed per side but this is better and not so nerdy.
G-LO: For the record (pun intended), I was always a Side B kind of guy.
AK: You’re a deep cut, kind of guy.  You really were made for FM radio. Which is a dying medium.
G-LO:  Me and Casey Kasem.
AK: One, Casey is dead.  Two, more like Jim Ladd. Casey loved Top 40 and tall blondes. And not in that order.
G-LO: This book is total hipster, but without crossing the line to douchebagism. It’s an invitation.
AK: Indeed. Not sure it would get you to become a vinylphile, but if you are one, it’s a lovely reminder why you are.
G-LO: One more album for the road. GO!
AK: First Van Halen album! Owww! Or however Diamond Dave would scream it.  Now you!
G-LO: My Funny Valentine, Miles Davis in Concert.
AK: Oh, Miles.
G-LO: Ask me again tomorrow, and you’ll get a different answer.  Miles and Coltrane. Sooooo good!
AK: The best thing about music and booze. Ever-changing with the mood or atmosphere.
G-LO: Absolutely! Always cracks me up when someone asks you to name a “favorite” of anything.  It’s all about time and place.  Speaking of time. We’re running out of it and losing readers by the second.
AK: Mix in the right booze and you have a perfect evening  This is a book I’d easily give to someone as a gift.
G-LO: And then say, “Screw them! I’m keeping it for myself!”
AK: BOOM! Giving starts at home!
G-LO: The best gifts are the ones you wanna keep for yourself.
AK: Well, we have one here. Well done, Darlingtons!
G-LO: Which reminds me. I bought you a bottle of whisky.
AK: THANKS!
G-LO: Sadly, I drank it. You would have loved it!
AK: Bastard
G-LO: Yep.
