one profession that does need better gatekeeping is people who write or translate subtitles. brother that is not what was said.
#in truth the problem is often time#esp when u write subs for dub#you need to be like QUICK about it and fit them into the length of the original line#so you just kinda have to make it “that but different”#either longer or shorter or just rephrase it to make it make sense#also a lot of things that just dont translate#there is no short way to explain gatekeeping in russian so i just used an anglicism#plus the lack of context when ur working on an ep in the middle of the season and all you have to work with is a glossary written up by-#-your fellow translators as you go along scrounging for crumbs of context along the evermoving plot#anyway its much less about the skill than you expect#and much more about the fact that you just dont have much time and context to make it really good#if ur doing it long after the show came out and know all the context ur most likely doing it as a hobby and not getting paid#and thats like hourrsssss of work#i do wanna keep writing my own translation for daredevil tho that was alot of fun
