20230912: Now that I've had a little bit of time to decompress and unpack from BrickCon 2023 in Bellevue, Washington from 07-10 September, I figured I should post some of the overarching pictures from building the LEGO 10305 Lion Knights' Castle in dark pink (or bright purple, if you go off of LEGO's naming convention for colors). In the fantasy world I've created, blue is rock or stone, dark pink is the castle material, yellow is the color of the water, and medium lavender/lavender is the color of the plant life. While I did make this a fully functional Lion Knights' Castle, there were some pieces simply not available in the colors I build with, so I had to improvise as best as I could and I think I did a decent job of engineering things to still be functional. I focused on building the structure first and meant to go back and add the interiors but that just didn't work out. The first two pictures are the framework I built so I could have a display stand for the castle and add the attacking skeletons and the alligators in the moat. Since the castle sat on top of the tiles, it didn't matter what tiles I used, so you'll see some entertaining uses for some possibly-recognizable tiles and stickers :) But now I'm faced with some interesting decisions, namely whether or not I want to leave this assembled and display it at future LEGO fan conventions such as BrickCon in September 2024 or BrickCan in Richmond, British Columbia in April 2024. Or do I want to take it apart and build something completely different for display? I guess only the future will show my decision :)

But I did buy a new set this weekend it’s 10305 Lion Knights Castle. It’s on back order so won’t get it for a while. And tomorrow ima do a rebuild of one of the buildings from the 10332 Medieval Town Square

If you had complete creative freedom to design an official bionicle set, what would you make?

Okay, this has the opportunity to go... umm.... a few ways. Like, is it the mid-2000s and Bionicle is in its Gen 1 heyday and I can design a proper Gen-1 set? Easy--I'm designing a Toa Voriki: think something like the Toa Norik/Toa Iruini from 2005 or the Toa Lhikan set--or the Lesovikk from 2007: a Toa outside the standard six/twelve cannister sets of the year. This will be a third "Toa Hagah" style cannister: a Metru build black Toa, but with a purple mask/armour/feet/weapon. In other words, I'm turning my spray-painted, simple MOC into a real set.

But... if we're going to say it's 2024 and LEGO is what LEGO is in 2024... Then let's make Gen-1 revival set in the style of the Tahu GWP: a GWP Lariska, a GWP Nidhiki (in spider-transforms-to-bipedal human form) and a GWP Turaga Lhikan, with box art that clearly shows them on the Red Star. Nidhiki is ~somehow~ alive thanks to the death of Teridax and the magic of Mata Nui's final actions.

But.... if we're going PURE wish-fulfillment...

As a LEGO fig fan (even more than Bionicle--I know, I know!), I want to design a $500 playset along the lines of #10305 Lion Knights' Castle: a massive structure with a tonne of minifigs: the 6 Toa Mata, the 6 Turaga, the Chroniclers' company--and Jaller, Matoro, Nuparu, Hahli, Onepu, Kongu, Hewki, and McToran Makuka: a Kini Nui playset over the Mangaia lair, with Bohrok, Rahkshi, and an Avohkii hidden away. There's a Rahaga in a tree. The subfloor is built over a mosaic of Metru Nui. There's a palantír stand in Makuta's lair solely to amuse my LotR-fan self. If you buy Onepu and Onua parts on Bricks&PIeces, you can make a Voriki.

20241015: I had some amazing friends come over and help me set up a picture of me with all my blue and pink castle kingdom builds so far. On the far left is the 10305 Lion Knights' Castle, built and displayed at BrickCon 2023, Bricks Cascade 2024, and BrickCan 2024. In the very front is 375 / 6075 "Yellow" Castle, which was my very first castle I rebuilt in dark pink (bright purple, if you go by LEGO colors), but never displayed at a convention. And in the back with me is my Multi-Colored Dream, which was displayed at BrickCon 2024, which is 100% my own build and my own design. While there's a lot of improvements I intend to make, the build is minifigure scale and fully playable, meaning a minifigure can travel anywhere in the entire castle and surrounding village. The whole build is filled with tiny details and fun little stories and several younger humans made comments to me about how I must have "built with kids in mind because there were so many things only they could see." And that's 100% accurate! I definitely did a LOT of building for people who would be eye-level with the main village part of the build! Perhaps at a later time, I will take detailed pictures of the castle interior, with the stables, great hall during a feast, and the fully stocked LEGO library, complete with tiny LEGO books with book-related 1x2 tiles inside :)
