Classic Album of the week: Lloyd Cole and the Commotions / Rattlesnakes

Was für ein Debüt-Album: In 1984 etablierte sich der junge Lloyd Cole über Nacht zu einem der besten Singer/Songwrither der Achtziger Jahre. Rattlesnake baut in 1984 die Brücke vom elitären – The Smiths getriggerten – Indie/Alternative- Zirkel zum großen (melodramatischen) Pop. Tatsächlich sind die 10 Songs auf Rattlesnake eine der grandiosesten Ansammlung von Popsongs, die das Jahrzehnt zu bieten hat und vermutlich nur noch vom in 1985 folgenden Steve McQueen - Album von Prefab Sprout zu toppen. Die 10 Songs auf Rattlesnake – darunter das epochale Perfect skin – sollen laut Cole von den Dingen handeln, die Menschen tun, wenn sie verliebt sind. Rattlesnake ist demnach ein romantisches Album, welches die tragisch-komischen Seiten des Verliebtseins aufzeigen soll. 

Rattlesnake ist bemerkenswert gut gealtert. Würde ich das Debütalbum der Commotions heute erstmals hören, wäre dies sofort und vermutlich auf lange Zeit mein Lieblingsalbum des Jahres. Will sagen Rattlesnake passt auch heute in den musikalischen Rahmen – ein zeitloses Album mit großartigen Songs we Forrest fire (Tagestipp 10.02.2023), Patience (13.02.2018), Are you ready to be heartbroken? (Tagestipp 12.10.2016) und dem vorgenannten Perfect skin (Tagestipp 19.03.2014). Sie merken sicherlich, wie sehr mir Rattlesnake auch nach 40 Jahren noch am Herzen liegt. Und bevor ich jetzt noch in melancholische Erinnerungen abdrifte, möchte ich Ihnen noch den Blickwinkel des 40 Jahre älteren Lloyd Cole auf Rattlesnake mitgeben, der aber der Urwucht und Strahlkraft dieses Debütalbums nicht ganz gerecht wird: „Yes, some of the earlier lyrics were very naive. But I was a young man! I really was. You can just imagine me trying to wear a French trenchcoat at the time, thinking I looked very cool when, in fact, I looked really stupid. But maybe that's why people liked it.“

Vielleicht testen Sie den Titelsong Rattlesnake an, bleiben Sie aber bitte beim vollständigen Album, denn dieses lohnt mit allen 10 Stücken einer intensiven Befassung.

Repost from @oceanparkstandoff • Really haven’t wanted to have to write this, but hopefully we can turn this into something positive. Thunder, my best friend, died suddenly on June 2nd. He wasn’t eating so we took him to the vet and he died there. I’m not sure what caused it, but he went into cardiac arrest and they tried to save resuscitate him, but he didn’t make it. My heart is broken and I miss him terribly. All this reminded me that we have had these hats waiting around for us to go on tour and since it’s looking like that’s not going to be happening for a while, Pete and I decided to put these up for sale with all the money going to @blklivesmatter.         Bugünün tarihi 26.04.2020...

       Unutmuştum böyle bir hesabım olduğunu, sayfayı yeniden bulduğum da eski yazılanları okumak güzel oldu..

      Burayı en son ziyaret ettiğimde tarih 12.10.2016. Bir sürü yıl geçmiş,bir sürü anı,sevinç,gözyaşının geçtiği bir sürü yıl. Seninle kaybettiğimiz zamana mı üzülsem yoksa birbirimizi bulmamıza mı sevinsem bilmiyorum. Emin olduğum bir konu var ise oda seni çok özledim. Şuan iki kocaman insan olarak konuşuyoruz. 3 yıl önce ki halim  biraz farklıyım,farklıyız. Eski yazdığım yazıları okuduğum da içimde ki çocuğun cümlelere yansıdığını hissettim. Şundan emin olabiliriz içimde ki çocuk hala yerinde duruyor. İçim de hala ilk gün ki gibi varlığını hissettiğim bir diğer duyguysa sana olan sevgim. Hiç değişmiyor, transformers günü nasıl içim titrediyse hala içim öyle titriyor.. Sana hala hala çok aşığım.

       Seninle burada geçmişi mi konuşmayacağım geçmişten bahsetmeyi sevmiyorum. Tek buraya yazmak istediğim güzel bir zaman değildi. Çok şey yaşadım çok güzel anlarım oldu,çok üzüntülü anlarım oldu ama bir şeylerin eksik olduğunu hissediyordum. Kendime bile itiraf edemediğim eksikliklerim varmış meğersem. Bu eksikliği seninle karşılaşıncaya kadar farketmedim. Sen benim kendime itiraf etmek istemediğim zayıf noktamdın,eksik yanımdın. Seni çok sevdim,seviyorum ve sen bana her zaman iyi ki dedirtmeyi,sevgimi verdiğin sevgi,değer ile kat ve kat arttıran bir gün olsun pişmanlık duymama sebep olmayan insansın. Bu duyguyu yaşayan insanlar yok denecek kadar az. Teşekkür ederim ay tenlim.  

        Birbirimizi dünyada eşi benzeri zor olan saf bir sevgiyle sevdiğimizin farkındayım. Aramızda zorlanacağımız bir sürü bariyer olacağına biliyorum. Seninle bir çok farkımız olduğunu biliyorum ama bir çok benzerliğimizinde olduğunu biliyorum. En önemli benzerliğimiz sevgimiz. Bir felaket senaryosu yazıp realist davrandığımı varsayalım. İkimiz farklı yollara gittiği taktirde hayatımıza kimi alırsak alalım o kişiye sevgilide desek,eşimde desek hayatımıza giricek kimse bizim birbirimizi koyduğumuz o özel,saf yere erişemiycek. Ben o özel yerde beraber bir yol yürüyeceğimize inanıyorum ve ne gerekirse yapacağıma eminim. Seni kaybetmiycem,kaybetmene izin vermiycem. 

    Hayallerimin eksik parçası hayatıma çıkmamak üzere yeniden Hoşgeldin.İnişli çıkışlı uzun bir yol bizi bekliyor ama bu yolda unutmamamız gereken biz hayat arkadaşıyız,yol arkadaşıyız. Birlikte güçlü olucaz. İlerliyen zamanlarda destek amaçlı minicik yol arkadaşlarımızında olacağına eminim.
