About Pulsar N160 :
Bajaj Pulsar is a street bike available at a starting price of Rs. 1,22,974 in India. It is available in 4 variants and 3 colours with top variant price starting from Rs. 1,30,425. The Bajaj Pulsar N160 is powered by 164.82cc BS6 engine which develops a power of 15.68bhp and a torque of 14.65 Nm. With both front and rear disc brakes, Bajaj Pulsar N160 comes up with anti-locking braking system. This Pulsar N160 bike weighs 152kg and has a fuel tank capacity of 14 litres.
Pulsar n160 top speed: 120kmph
The Pulsar N160’s engine has nothing to do with the existing Pulsar NS160’s mill. This engine, in fact, has been under development around the same time as the Pulsar 250’s engine. It has a long-stroke configuration, with a simple two-valve head and makes 16hp and 14.7Nm of peak torque. These figures aren’t class leading, although it is quite close to the motorcycles at the top of the segment. Only the RTR 160 4V and the NS160 outdo the N160 in claimed engine output figures. However, there is also the fact that at 154kg, N160 is the heaviest bike in the segment. You would imagine that with a power to weight ratio of 103.89hp/tonne, compared with the RTR’s 119.86hp/tonne, the Pulsar N160 is already on the back foot. But that’s only on paper.
In the real world, the engine is delightfully smooth, packs oodles of torque and has decent top end performance as well. The low and midrange between 4,000 to 7,000rpm, especially, is astonishingly good. You can be as lazy as a sloth, slot the gearbox in 5th and ride at 30-35kph in the city without any signs of protest from the engine. Roll on the throttle from this point and the bike pulls cleanly, albeit at a slow pace. However, if you need to pull a quick overtake you will have to go down a gear or two. Not that you’ll mind this because the gearbox is smooth and the light clutch lever action will also make it a breeze to go up and down the cogs.
All said, the engine’s superb tractability will make it natural for those graduating from 125cc-150cc motorcycles to feel at home with the N160.
Top-end performance isn’t lacking either and the bike can hold a steady 80-90kph without feeling or sounding strained. Sitting at 100kph, too, doesn’t cause the engine to sweat. From then on, however, the performance begins to taper as the digital speedo climbs to an indicated top speed of around 120kph. At this point, the revs are also pretty close to the redline, which again is an indicator of the engine reaching its performance ceiling.
Overall, the N160’s engine is the star of the show here and I’m also a fan of its throaty exhaust note.

India’s most selling 2-wheeler brand has once again stepped inside nations fastest growing segment 160-200cc where Hero clearly lacked. After the much success of its iconic ‘Karizma’ and ‘Karizma-R’, the ZMR series faded out really soon. Hero needed to set foot in higher capacity segment as it has no market share in Premium bikes.
Hero first show-cased the concept 200S at the Expo and eventually took months to make it to the production. The Bike is priced aggressively compared to its rivals Bajaj Pulsar 200NS and TVS Apache RTR 200; ABS as standard offering and PAN India market, Hero can certainly except some good numbers from this Bike.
We had the bike for a city ride to understand aspects of the Bike involving regular usage by a user in City condition.
Even at 89,900 (ex-Showroom) buying a bike (or even upgrading from smaller cc) is a big deal for some people as they want bike to be worth for every buck they spend. Is it really an everyday bike and worth buying? Lets check it out.
First Look
The design looks quite basic. A bulky fibre body covering the fuel tank with huge brand decals, Straight Matte Black handle bar fitted with the regular switches. Split Grab Rails, bulky and long exhaust, LED on DRL, taillight, indicators and halogen Headlight. Telescopic forks suspension, 8 step adjustable monoshock, Disc on both tyres (the front fender shouts at us stating that it has ABS). Comes in 5 dual tone shades (We had Red, looks the best amongst all).
Also check: All Hero Xtreme 200R Colors
Design & Features
Compared to the existing 200cc bikes, The 200r lacks the appeal of being masculine. Knowing the bike is specifically targeted to attract buyers under 30, the design lacks the muscular or sporty look. Only cosmetic addition that highlights the bike for this category are those tank extensions. The fuel tank gets those muscular shrouds with knee recesses gives a good grip of the bike. The tank pad looks cool rest the bike is very lean. The rear section adds some charm to bike. Split grab rail looks neat, tapered tail section with smooth matte black finish and stylish LED tail lamp. The Exhaust is Bulky and has no aesthetic appeal. Its quite a fat and long muffler (doesnt even sound good). The rims have smooth curvy designs that holds tubeless 100/80-17 at front 130/70-17 on rear tyres.
The straight & low handle bars are not exact ride comforting unit. Rider seat is low and makes the posture upright with most of the weight coming over the wrists that made it less agile to move in the city traffic. Turning radius is less too which makes taking full turn little cumbersome. Overall ergonomics shouldve added to make a city commute pleasant and less stressful over shoulder and wrist, but it doesnt (knowing it took them years to get the bike into production).
The very basic, yester-year looking, part analog, part digital instrument cluster highlighting speed, odo, trips, fuel, time in digital and engine revs on analog. ABS, turn, side stand and neutral indicators are light lit over the side. With no gear indicator, battery strength, single channel ABS (only on the front) Hero has kept its focus on cost effective offering rather than standing out amongst its competitors.
Overall the bike is good but definitely not a head turner and may not appeal to its target audience.
Engine and Performance
The 200r gets a 199.6cc, single cylinder OHC, two valve, carburetted, air-cooled engine churning out satisfying 18.4 bhp of power at 8000 rpm and 17.1 NM of torque at 6500 rpm (and I loved its acceleration) fitted with 5 speed gear box, excellent gear ratios, going 0-60 in under 5 seconds. The 18 horses did a wonderful job to take the bike at top speed of 118 kmph.
I really liked the way machine behaved in mid-range giving superior acceleration and smooth gear shifts. High torque and high gear ratios makes overtaking very easy. Infact, at 2nd and 3rd gear, as you open up the throttle it gives a surprise push helps you gain more confidence in controlling the bike. But as you get along faster and nearer towards the red line, it begins vibrating over the handle bar and you can hear the engine getting stressed. This is where the 200r lacks performance from its competitors. While redlining on every gear it feels the engine is running out of rawness that a 200cc bike should offer. After some constant acceleration the engine heated up. Oil-cooling could’ve helped to get this off in my reckoning.
The performance isnt that thrilling, for a regular city commute its not that disappointing either. For the purpose it is made for, it is likeable in terms of power delivery and acceleration.
Ride and Handling
The straight sitting position coupled with straight handlebars which makes the rider sit-up putting direct stress on the wrist and shoulder is worrisome. It can get easy to manoeuvre through traffic only for those who has experience in riding bikes.
The foot rests on the bike is improperly placed because of which everytime, while at a standstill, one has to spread legs wider to touch the ground. The pegs comes directly by side and when you lift the legs back up the foot pegs shuts in.
The pillion seat is small but comfy. The grab rails work well for the pillion. Mono-shock works fine giving more comfort to the pillion and even in the potholes it gives back very less jerks. Front has 37mm telescopic forks and they are bang on to give a very smooth ride with required traction to keep the bike stuck to the ground. Both the suspensions are smooth, tackles any kind of potholes, breakers with ease.
The brakes on the wheels are very responsive as well. Single channel ABS is on demand, work very neat. It gave more confidence to brake hard while going fast. We did try to lock the front but the ABS did it magic, kept the tyres stuck neatly with no skids. The rear brakes locked though but only u der hard breaking. Under normal riding conditions the rear brake also worked perfect. (Would have loved a dual-channel option over it)
Verdict
At ₹ 89,900 (ex-showroom) this is by far the most affordable 200 cc. It may not be good looking, not technologically advance, nor even outstanding features but it still makes the cut as a good city commute bike.
What we liked
Torque rich engine
Powerful brakes
Smooth in-city performance
Wide tyres
Excellent pricing
Disliked
Outdated design
Single channel ABS
No Oil- cooling
No Fuel injection
Handle bars
Shouting graphics and decals.

HONDA

The story The story began on September 24, 1948 when Honda Motor Co. Ltd. was founded. That year, Japan rose after being ravaged by World War II. In the middle of the rebuilding process, Soichiro Honda was able to identify a business opportunity: the need for a quick and cheap means of transportation was increasing. Adding his expertise as a mechanic to an initial capital of 1 million yen and the work of 34 employees, he opened his engine factory in Hamamatsu city. The first invention has the auxiliary motor bicycle (named A-type) to be the origin for the first prototype of Honda, the Dream D scooter (98 cc) with two-stroke engine, manufactured in 1949. The name was Dream given in reference to Sochiro's dream of building a complete motorcycle. It was in this same year that Takeo Fujisawa, his inseparable companion, began an important role in the development of the company. In caring for the commercial and financial area, he freed the founder for the mechanical and technological development of the products. - - In 1951 the bike sold about 130 units per day, proving the company's success in betting on this type of vehicle. At this time the success of the company was due to the entrepreneurial spirit of overcoming challenges and seeking constant improvement to ensure the satisfaction of its customers. The following year the company launched the F-Type, a 50cc motorcycle, which in less than a year reached the mark of 6,500 units sold per month. However, the product that would forever mark the history of HONDA came a decade later: Super Cub, the best-selling motorcycle of all time. In 2008, the model hit the 60 million mark sold in 160 countries around the world. Expanding its field of action in 1953, HONDA decided to invest in the manufacture of H-type power products for general uses. -
- In contrast, the motorcycle market was growing at an accelerated pace with exports to various countries. To meet the growing demand of customers worldwide, the company crossed the border to open in 1959, its first unit abroad: American Honda Motor Co., the United States, which popularized the use of the motorcycle. From there, it spread rapidly to several European countries, starting production outside Japan in 1963 in Belgium. It was also this year that HONDA entered the automotive segment with the launch of the S500 sports car (Japan's first sports car) and the T360 light truck. Shortly thereafter, in 1966, it was the turn of the small N360 car to debut on the market. Following the "produce where there is market" philosophy, the 1970s were decisive for the expansion towards South and Central America. After being a major importing center for large-scale motorcycles, Brazil received, in 1971, Honda Motor do Brasil Ltd. -
- - Perhaps the most important fact in the history of HONDA was the launch of the Honda Civic in 1972, which became one of the best selling cars in the history of the automobile industry. Another important fact occurred in this decade was the pioneering manufacture of the CVCC (Compressed Vortex Controlled Combustion) car engine, which reduced the emission of pollutant gases at very low rates. The initiative anticipated the stringent requirements of US law "Clean Air Act" in 1975. The '80s marked the expansion of the company for promising poles, such as India, China and Indonesia, and the launch of another great success of the automaker, the HONDA ACCORD. -
- - The 1990s started out very well for the automaker, the ACCORD model became the best selling car on the American market. Pre-tensioning seat belts and passenger airbags were also announced on their car models. In 2003 HONDA celebrated two historical brands: the Civic model reached the mark of 15 million units produced since its launch and the automaker broke the barrier of 50 million vehicles produced in the world. -
- - In the last two decades, the technological research that has resulted in the development of the quadricycle, the world's first airbag motorcycle, hybrid cars, the Honda Jet executive jet, the versatile Asimo humanoid robot and even an equipment that helps the displacement of the elderly - the experimental walking aid. Coinciding with its 60th birthday in 2008, HONDA has announced it has produced its 200 millionth motorcycle. -

HONDA

Believing in the power of dreams, which translates the brand's worldwide slogan, "The Power of Dreams," HONDA made history. It evolved from legendary motorcycle engines and then to current inventions, such as hybrid vehicles and fuel cell cars. Since its foundation, the company prioritizes the safety and well-being of people and the preservation of the environment for future generations by developing efficient products with low emission of pollutants. A dynamic past and a promising future. Thus, HONDA breaks paradigms and records, and strengthens its values to reaffirm its mission of being a company desired by society. Looking ahead, it plans its goals to become absolute leader in the mobility segment and continue to offer innovative products that will surprise consumers. - The story The story began on September 24, 1948 when Honda Motor Co. Have a lakh of rupees and wondering which motorcycle to buy? Here is our pick of the best BS IV bikes which are priced below Rs. 1 lakh.
Highlights
Customers are leaning towards bikes which are enthusiast centricThe bike segment under Rs. 1 lakh is seeing a lot of activitySome of our picks include the Apache 200, Pulsar NS200 and the Gixxer SF
In the last couple of years, the motorcycle segment under Rs. 1 lakh has seen a lot of activity. Two-wheeler manufacturers are constantly trying to better the balance between practicality and performance. Slowly but surely, buyers in this segment have started accepting two-wheeler models which are enthusiast-centric and can keep it practical at the same time. Keeping this in mind, we have curated a list of two-wheelers which we believe are really good buys in terms of practicality and performance offered and they give you the best bang for your buck, too. So, in case you have a lakh of rupees with you sitting idle and you are looking to buy a two-wheeler, look no further. Here are our top picks.
1. TVS Apache RTR 200 4V:
(TVS Apache RTR 200 4V)
One of our favourites, the Apache RTR 200 4V not only looks great with its naked street-fighter style appeal but also has performance to boot. TVS has also done well to offer variants with either carburetted or fuel-injected engines. One can also get the Apache 200 with ABS and Pirelli Diablo Rosso tyres instead of the regular TVS Remoras. We strongly suggest that you stick to the Pirellis though. The 197 cc engine churns out 20.21 bhp and 18.1 Nm of torque, which is more than enough power you will ever need in the city. In case you are interested it does 0-60 kmph in less than 4 seconds and reaches 100 kmph from standstill in just 12 seconds. It is an absolute gem of a handler too. The prices for the Apache RTR 200 start at Rs. 92,615 and go up to just over Rs. 1 lakh. Absolute value-for-money bike, we say.
2. Bajaj Pulsar NS200:
(2017 Bajaj Pulsar NS200)
Bajaj's Pulsar range of motorcycles has always been viewed as great value-for-money motorcycles. The 2017 Pulsar NS 200 was launched earlier in the year and along with a BS IV compliant engine and the auto-headlamp on (AHO) feature it also gets new colours and subtle cosmetic updates. The 199.5 cc engine continues to make 23 bhp of peak power and 18.3 Nm of torque, having a six-speed gearbox. As far as performance is concerned, the Pulsar NS200 offers a peppy ride and will be a good upgrade from a sedate commuter bike as well. The Bajaj Pulsar NS200 is priced at Rs. 96,453.
3. Suzuki Gixxer SF:
(Suzuki Gixxer SF)
if we consider motorcycles in the 150-160cc category, the Suzuki Gixxer SF is right up there with the best. The Gixxer SF has a 155 cc motor making 14.6 bhp and 14 Nm. The performance is absolute best in its segment and looks good too. You could opt for either a carburetted or a fuel-injected variant and you also get an option to get a disc brake at the rear. The quality of materials used and the overall fit and finish is excellent as well. With prices starting at Rs. 89,659, the Gixxer SF makes for a great purchase.
4. Honda CB Hornet 160R:
(Honda CB Hornet 160R)
The CB Hornet 160R is yet another lean-mean 160 cc machine that not only looks good but offers good performance as well. Honda has done well to give an aggressive look to the CB Hornet 160R which is quite a refreshing change from its usual design scheme. The CB Hornet 160R gets a 162 cc motor that makes 15.66 bhp and 14.76 Nm of peak torque. It was one of the first BS IV offerings in the Indian two-wheeler market. The prices for the Honda CB Hornet 160 R start from Rs. 85,824 and go up till Rs. 91,622. Definitely worth a consideration if you are looking for a bike below Rs. 1 lakh.
5. Yamaha FZ-S V2.0:
(Yamaha FZ-S V2.0)
While the FZ-S is not quite the best-seller it used to be after the emergence of other motorcycles in the segment, it still is a good option to buy in the 150 cc space. The FZ-S gets a 149 cc motor that makes 13 bhp and 12.8 Nm. Yamaha began offering a fuel-injected motor on the FZ-S when it launched the V2.0 in 2014. Of course, Yamaha updated the engine to be BS IV compliant for 2017. The prices for the FZ-S start at Rs. 82,789. We would love to see a V3.0 of the FZ-S sometime soon. For its price, the FZ-S is an attractive proposition.
6. Bajaj Avenger 220:
(Bajaj Avenger Street 220)
Our list would have been incomplete without the new Avenger 220. The Avenger 220 and the 150 were the first Bajaj bikes to get a BS IV engine. Both the Street 220 and the Cruise 220 have a 220 cc engine that churns out 18.8 bhp and 17.5 Nm with a 6-speed gearbox. The Avenger range is also a hit with customers who like to go on long rides and tours and Bajaj is aiming to eat into the sales of Royal Enfield motorcycles, which are similarly priced. The Avenger 220 models, with their cruiser-themed styling and refreshed looks (updated in 2015) have good street presence and sell in decent numbers. If you are looking for swagger and a relaxed ride, the Avenger 220 makes a good case for itself.
7. Bajaj Pulsar 150:
(New New Bajaj Pulsar 150)
The first-generation Pulsar 150 was launched way back in 2001 and ever since, it has been the bread and butter model for Bajaj. The fact that Bajaj has still persisted with it proves its importance to the company. For 2017, the Pulsar 150 got quite a few changes. The cosmetic updates include new colour options, faux carbon-fibre finish and new decals as well. The engine retains its 149.5 cc displacement but gets a few changes. Apart from being BS IV compliant, the bore has been reduced by 2 mm and the stroke has been increased by 4 mm. The engine makes 14 bhp, which is a bhp less than the previous-gen model, but the torque has been increased by 1 Nm to 13.4 Nm. All these changes have made the engine more refined. With a price of Rs. 74,603, the 2017 Pulsar 150 surely is one of the best bikes to lay your hands on in the sub 1 lakh space.
