Ever since SOLO started doing its BCR series, I’ve been wanting to jump on one. Recently I had the opportunity to do a footwork set there. I played a lot of Chicago juke and some newer 160 from China. If you’re into that sort of thing, check it out!

我记得SOLO开始做BCR的项目的时候我真想要参加放歌。我最近在那边有机会做一个DJ set。白天来了放五十多分钟的footwork, juke, 和实验160BPM的歌。如果你喜欢听这些风格的话，你肯定会喜欢。我放了好多芝加哥和国内的制作人音乐。

The intro tune from Prayer was haunting me for quite some time. I really love his album for YUKU and had this melody from "Death Awaits" stuck in my head. I thought it was from some soundtrack until i realised it is this tune! Since then it was pretty clear that this is my intro. It sets the mood for the intro section which is filled with melancholic tracks that all share the same vibe, although you'll find different genres as wave, breakbeats or electro in the first 20 minutes.

nthng and his special take on house greet us for the "cheesy" section of this mix. Had to switch the style here before the whole mix gets too melancholic and everybody gets sad. So here come the nice and warm melodies and "atmobreaks"! ;)

Prayer is the only artist who is featured twice in this mix, a proof that i really enjoyed his album "Now I Know Paradise" for YUKU. His breakbeats work so well with the minimal dubstep beats of Teffa and i was so happy when i saw that the two tracks share the same key! The next part concentrates on dubstep, wave and grime. I did two mixes this year with these kinda tracks, so it was a no-brainer some of the best had to be included here, too. Especially the happier tracks from Drone, Two Swords or Volume Unit and OUTSIDR's very own take on wave are highlights for me.

The challenge with these mixes is to find transitions from various genres that make sense and aren't just fade outs/ins. When i combined the breakbeats from Tommy The Cat with the wave/phonk beats from SAKUREYE a big grin came to my face because it works so well. We're nearly at the end of the mix, where it gets a bit faster, expect some atmospheric jungle, footwork from DJ Manny or Heavee and Drum & Bass from Dub Phizix and Coffe Shop Jungle (what a name!). I think i heard the Paige Julia track in one of her insta stories already a year ago where and i was blown away from the atmosphere when i heard the full track. The combination of the thunderstorm sound effects and the fast breakbeats are just perfect.

After some headnoddin' beats from DJ Krush and TMSV we enter the last part of the mix. Fracture's SlOW0860 project and Madison Willing's album for Exit Records were my favourite LP's of 2024, so they had to be included in here. In combination with slower house tracks and ambient influences they build the perfect end for this two hour long journey.

In recent years it became a good tradition that my brother (hearthis.at/mtzemtk) and me do these "best of" mixes with our favourite music from the past 12 months. Again it was a tough choice and some tunes that i really enjoyed didn't make the cut, but i'm still pleased with the outcome.
