For the borrowers:
If a human is back before you could hide in time, stand in front of a picture. Chances are you will blend in with the photo and won't get noticed.
Note that this may not work if your human is observant

I just found your blog and saw the art you posted where the tiny flops down on the book. I happened to read the inside of the book that said something like "I will yap about linguistics if you let me fr." That being said, I happen to be a language nerd. ๐Ÿ‘€ Please yap to me about linguistics ๐Ÿ™
Any thoughts on linguistics in relation to g/t? Language barriers? Sign languages if the tiny is too quiet to hear? Just wondering your thoughts but yes pls feel free to yap about linguistics I am here for it!! ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ๐Ÿ‘๏ธ
Crying sobbing thank you for the ask!
Language barriers are the best in g/t. I can go without it, but having one in a story does compel me to read more ngl. I would assume language barriers should be a pretty common thing among giants and tinies, given that language barriers are present even among humans way too often lmao. Giants/tinies who don't share the same language is a cheat sheet to soooo much possible angst and fearplay. The only problem is that i find it kind of hard to write, and it does slow down character development a lot.
My unpopular opinion here is that sign language is often impractical for tinies (but specifically borrowers). Sure, it's good for situations where you need to be very quiet, but it requires your hands. Borrowers busy climbing and scaling all that furniture would probably want to have their hands free to hold onto their loot or ropes to keep their balance. Also human homes would have some kind of noise present at all times, and i suppose the average borrower doesn't make much noise anyway, talking normally should be fine for them. Also sign language is pretty useless when there's a certain distance since they would be too far to see, but maybe that's just me i have bad eyesight. Also very possible that a giant will have just as much trouble communicating with a tiny via sign language than if they just speak to each other normally imo.
It would be more efficient for tinies to communicate in a sort of Morse code like encryption, i think? Or maybe they would have other forms of communication like wearing different colours with each colour carrying some meaning. Like ships communicating with flags or smth
If we go further and presume tinies generally have a higher voice pitch and can hear higher pitches than their giant counterparts, they could also use whistling to communicate (i know I've read about a language that works like this once, but i can't remember anything else about it). Could work like the way a dog whistle does, humans can't hear shit but tinies sure can. I'd think it's a really neat idea but in practice it must be hell to write that in a story lol.
I don't really try to integrate language stuff with gt in my writing though (lazy worldbuilding on my side). I did try it with existing languages as a substitute, but it didn't work out very well either, so rip lol. So i cope by having an extremely unhinged writing process instead
I know it's not very linguistics-y (and I'm sorry about it) but i hope i answered some stuff, lol

I have an idea for a story about a pirate borrower heist but i would first need to study sailor terminology to write this and. Well. I'm pretty lazy.
