I can't get over how hot bathena's first on screen kiss was like. the build up of athena retelling the emergency as they get closer, that flirty tone in their voices, athena making sure nobody's looking (and bobby looking just because she did) and next thing you know she's pushing him against the truck (!!!) and they just devour each other

The Odyssey of Recollection - or how a big chunk of the IWTV fandom completely ignores that this theme is one of the main building blocks of this story

What gets me about the "who lied, who told the truth" discourse in the iwtv fandom, is that very few people allow nuance, which is incredibly ironic for a story build on nuance and imperfect, complex characters with a multitude of characteristics and motives.

These people chose one party to have told the absolute truth, one party to have always lied/manipulated, and then base their whole reading of the show on that faulty, unsupported idea, which is such a disservice to both the story in general and to the characters they claim to love.

That's how you get the belief that Claudia's diaries are the only 100% reliable source of information of past events, just because she put it to paper and now she's dead instead of recounting things to Daniel herself, despite her diaries being the place where she vented, and the fact that not everything you vent about is rooted in honesty.

But also:

The show goes out of its way to show AND tell you that she is not always honest in her diaries or in the things she's told Louis either. Truly, nobody ever is. Even the most honest people on earth aren't always honest.

Which is totally normal behavior, mind you - I'm just correcting a faulty assumption about the reliability of her diaries.

Then you get the people who attribute any inconsistency in Louis' pov to Armand fucking with his head. Again, no place for Louis misremembering because he's old and people's memories aren't perfect and without subconscious bias, or because he's not honest with himself about how he handled certain situations (see Claudia's turning) - it must be all Armand's fault, who purposefully went and manipulated all of Louis' memories because of this master manipulator agenda he supposedly had going on.

Then you get people genuinely saying that Armand lied about his past or exaggerated in recounting the events to manipulate Louis. Idk man, it genuinely left me flabbergasted to see people actually reduce Armand opening up about his trauma as a CSA victim forced into prostitution to that. But oh well, guess they have the same disregard about such themes that their favorite character seems to have there.

Then you have the people already believing that everything Lestat will say in s3, especially regarding his time with Louis and Claudia, will be a lie. OR, on the other side of the ridiculous coin, those who believe that it will be the Absolute Truth TM counteracting all of Louis' lies, and just because Lestat did not like the portrayal of the train scene, it automatically means that it didn't happen at all!

As if Lestat was not abusive in other instances.

Then you get the people claiming that Daniel lied about Louis in the book just because Louis didn't like himself in it. You know, the awarded investigative journalist Louis hired, the man Louis is having a chill dinner with... defamed Louis and Louis is totally fine playing nice with that man despite it.

The truth is that at one point or another, they ALL lied, and they ALL told the truth. Yes, that applies to the character with the power to hypnotize people, too.

Some of you are not built for genuinely enjoying a story that doesn't spoon-feed you answers and requires from you a level of attention and understanding that's beyond surface-level, beyond black and white.
