Update (8/26) and A Question to You All

First order of business! Oof, babes. I got jump scared 😅

Friendly reminder to all my A03 homies out there that story bookmarks aren't private by default. You have to check the tiny box on the bottom that marks it as "private", otherwise all your dirty laundry is aired out to the world.

Needless to say, I uhhhh... I offended somebody. They were big mad at my story. Very incensed. I apologize for my poor conduct as an author for the grief I have cause the world at large 🙏🏻

Also, I'm apparently an untrustworthy author and that's funny to me 🥴🫠

I'm not even upset. I'm just a nice little blend of bemused and amused (which are two separate things entirely, though they often get treated as synonyms).

Alright, moving on...

I'm finishing Seaside this weekend. It's almost done. Well, more like halfway. But I can bust out a few thousand more words in *checks watch* four days' time. It's practically a done deal. I'm not at all setting myself up for failure with this strict time constraint.

No siree.

I anticipate having REARRANGED updated by NEXT Friday/Saturday, not this upcoming one. Whether this comes to fruition or not depends entirely on my ability to buckle down and NOT get distracted by my ADHD. I make no solid promises because I'm a disaster person.

The next item on my agenda is Crimson Chapter 3. I've bumped up the chapter count because there was so, so much tsundere!Suguru interacting with Reader-chan that I didn't have the willpower to cut any of it. We now have 4 chapters of our Vampire Knight/JJK fusion AU.... I'm a simp for mean guys, what can I say?

Then another REARRANGED the next week, and the end of Crimson the week after that.

I'm a busy bee this month. But I have so much to catch up on.

Once I finish my two smaller WIPs, I have a maddening desire to break out of the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom for a few smaller side projects while writing REARRANGED. I'm leery, given that JJK is where my main audience is. I wouldn't want to alienate any of my regular readers. I'd still probably do CanonXReader fics because they soothe my self-indulgent needs. But, man, I want to dabble in other fandoms so baaaad.

So, my question to those of you who keep up with my works, are there any characters from this list that you'd like to see more of in the future?

(Keep in mind that this is the distant future. Not until I complete the second arc of REARRANGED at least.)

Will the prophecy come true? Or will Waterside fall?

That’s a tough one, man. I think I’m most proud of 28 Days - AU Dean Winchester x several AU SPN characters.

Summary: Dean Winchester is an addict and an alcoholic, a USMC veteran, a father, and an older brother. As Battalion Chief with Lawrence Fire & Medical, Dean comes under investigation when he makes a dangerous and impulsive decision, defying his superiors and abandoning the team he is supposed to lead. He is given the choice to go to rehab for 28 days, or jail. His lawyer insists on rehab, and Dean begrudgingly abides.

1. How many works do you have on A03? 28, all public

2. What’s your total A03 word count? 70,744

3. What fandoms do you write for? Vampire Chronicles & AMC IWTV. I also write Hannibal fic and dabble in Star Trek (need to get into some ds9 fic one of these days.) I also have a twitter account (@murdertherapy) where I give advice as Hannibal Lecter, but I've back burnered it for the time being due to The Horrors. Might make a tumblr for it one day.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos? Touching and Touched, Only a Name, That Essence Rare, Amnesiac, By Any Other Name

5. Do you respond to comments? Absolutely, they make me so happy! But I get a little self-conscious about how to respond to them since I don't know how to take compliments, so I'm always just like, thanks 🙂

But I really do cherish all of them 😭

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Gotta be Gethsemane, the fic where I did what Anne maybe ultimately wished she did and killed Daniel. This is one of my favorite pieces I've written in fandom or otherwise and it really helped me process some things.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I'm sure it's my spirk fic Touching and Touched, they are so fuckin sappy I love them.

8. Do you get hate on fics? I've been pretty lucky in that I've never gotten a mean comment on ao3 or any shade about any of my fics (that I've seen lol).

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Listen, I think that horniness is the engine of all drama. All fiction is inherently erotic. What is a Greek tragedy but a super drawn out communal orgasm?

But yes, I write smut almost exclusively lol. People are (usually) at their most vulnerable and raw during sex, and this is an incredibly powerful way to explore character dynamics as well as their inner lives, traumas, and hidden drives. I'm especially drawn to BDSM/kink in general.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? Yes! I just wrote a VC/X-Files crossover called Amanuensis in which Mulder and Scully investigate the Night Island that was tons of fun, but it's not something I make a habit of for whatever reason.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not that I know of.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? No, but it's something I would definitely be open to!

14. What’s your all time favorite ship? Devil's Minion, Hannigram, Garashir, Spirk, Mulder/Scully. They all make me insane in unique ways! I'm also partial to Armand/Marius/Daniel--any Armand ship really! Super normal about him :)

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I WANT to finish my Knight of Swords series one day, but I'll try keep plugging away at it.

16. What are your writing strengths? Dialogue, 100%. I want everything to be a screenplay lmao. I have written multiple fics that are just text conversations, transcripts, etc.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? I can be impatient when it comes to writing descriptions/actions, so a lot of that stuff is as bare bones as possible. I would like to become better at creating a sense of depth and scale and grandeur rather than just sketching things out (and writing longer fics instead of just oneshots all the time).

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Neutral, I think it can work when used sparingly (but then I've dropped a few caro mios in my time).

19. First fandom you wrote for? Doctor Who in the ancient pre-ao3 times.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Apart from Gethsemane, I was really happy with how By Any Other Name turned out (the fic where Armand roleplays that Daniel is Marius without his knowledge). Basically anything that's a combination of heavy angst and smut with an optional lil sliver of comfort--that's the good stuff.

I have so many aus I want to make, here's the list of them.

1.Bat hybrid au: A universe where Vanny performed an experiment on Sun, Moon, and The Glamrocks where she would merge their D.N.A with that of bats, with each of them being merged with a different species. Freddy manage to escape, but the others became bat hybrids, Monty: Myotis(a fish eating bat), Chica: Little brown bat(bug eating bat), Roxanne: Pallas's long-tongued bat(nectar drinking bat), Sun: Flying Fox(fruit bat), Moon: Vampire bat(self explanatory), and now Freddy is trying to contain his friends and turn them back to normal before they cause too much trouble.

2. An au where Lunar and Bloodmoon are the same animatronic, Bloodmoon is a lot more serious and calculated(he's basically more like Eclipse) and also a vampire. Lunar is cursed/programmed to turn into Bloodmoon at night and usually wakes up with a massive stomach ache from all the blood he consumed the previous night as Bloodmoon.

3.RPG au: An au where Sun, Moon, and The Glamrocks are sucked into a medieval RPG and have to find and defeat an evil king to get back to the Pizza Plex. Freddy: Knight, Monty: Barbarian, Roxanne: Rouge, Chica: Bard(can fight with her music), Sun: Fairy, Moon: Wizard.

4.Monster au: This one's self explanatory. Freddy: Frankenstein's monster, Monty: Dragon, Roxanne: Werewolf(obviously), Chica: Harpy, Sun: Fairy, Moon: Vampire.

5.Wereanimals vs Vampires au(can you tell that I'm obsessed with vampires): The Glamrocks are wereanimals and are humans by day and humanoid animals by night(same species as og universe) and they like messing with Sun, Moon, Baby, and Ballora who are human vampires.

6.Character wasting disease: A universe based on OtcoInkz's Cuttie Mark wasting disease au. The infected have their personality slowly waste away until there is nothing but their most well-known trait while also mutates and distorts their body to match the surviving trait(basically a terrifying version of flanderization).

Freddy is known as a leader, so the diease makes him a major control freak and he becomes big and his right hand becomes a fleshy wip.

Monty is known for being strong, so he becomes all muscles and is constantly exercising to become even more muscular.

Chica is known for eating, so that's all she does, her beak becomes massive and she now has multiple stomachs so she can eat much more food than usual.

Roxy is known for caring about her looks, so she becomes obsessed with her looks and constantly looks in a mirror and adjusts her appearance, she now has big eyes and multiple arms to hold multiple mirrors.

Sun is known for taking care of kids, so now he's extremely over protective of the children who come to the daycare, he becomes bigger and taller and is given multiple arms and a pouch to hold multiple kids.

Moon is known for his acrobatics, so now he constantly putting on performances and always tries to out do his last, he has become long, thin, and flexible, he is given infinite every and is constantly smiling.

Bonnie and Foxy are immune and try to find more people who are immune to the disease to help them find a cure.

Santaquest Pt. 4: New Comics Version!

Taking a break from reading the endless old comics holiday anthologies to check out some *new* DC comics!

DC's Twas the Mite before Christmas!

We've got an appearance of who I believe is the real Santa in the Booster Gold story: The Santa Copies.

Booster Gold: Whatever this looks like, I swear-- I didn't kill Santa!

Santa gets hit by some piece of Alien technology that causes anyone who touches him to turn into him! Booster, who had touched him, proceeds to go off and stop a mugging while in Santa Mode:

Rip Hunter: Booster! Get back here!

Only when he touches the muggers, they turn into Santa too! And then they all go off to deliver presents:

Skeets (voice over): "...we've lucked out with the man they're turning into." Booster: Merry Christmas!

Fortunately, Rip Hunter is able to reverse it and things return to normal.

Batman - Santa Claus: Silent Knight #1

This one's from last week, but since we'll also be covering #2, let's get caught up first.

Strange vampires attack some carrollers. When Batman and Robin show up to investigate, none other appears to aid them than Santa Claus! (And also Zatanna)

Santa: I came as soon as I heard. The draug never got Farther than Norther Europe before. For them to be free again and in GOtham City is... ...bad tidings. Prancer (he has glowing eyes and looks rad): Snort. Santa: Easy there, Prancer.

We learn that Batman once trained under Santa Claus! (If I didn't have like 5 other wips I want to get done, I'd almost want to write that story)

Santa: That it has. I've followed your exploits. Robin (Damian): Wait, What-- Batman: We met during my years abroad. He showed me a few things I still use.

This isn't your average Santa though, he's jaded and cool:

Damian: Clau-- You can't be serious. I don't believe in Santa! Santa: You and me both, kid.

Uhh, this is getting kind of long, so let's put in a cut. The rest of issue 1 and issue #2 beneath!

This Santa also doesn't need to worry about Christmas, he spends all his time hunting monsters! (Man there aren't enough exclamation points in these new-fangled comics. I've got to use more in my summary to make up for it!)

Santa: It's fine-- It hasn't needed me to happen in centuries. No, I hunted and trapped all the Draug and somehow they've been set loose again. That's why I'm here. Someone freed them from the catacombs I sealed myself. Deep underground. Only I knew they were there.

The issue ends with the Krampus attacking and injuring Zatanna! Santa once sealed him away, but now he's back!

Batman - Santa Claus: Silent Knight #2

We open with Santa taking Zatanna away for medical treatment. He leaves a message for Batman and his allies and they retreat to a Batcave to view it! During a flashback sequence we learn that Santa and Krampus used to be friends, working together to bring order!

Santa: And one day, hopefully, the carrot alone will be enough. Krampus: Bah! The stick, the stick! Nightwing: Interesting--they brought order to chaos by scaring the wicked.

However, this all came to an end, when Santa mistakenly thought the Krampus had eaten some children and banished him! Once he realized his mistake, it was too late for him to fix it. The next night, the draug are Batman, but Batman calls in Miss Martian, Green Arrow, and Black Canary to help! (And they all look super bad-ass while doing it) In the end of the battle, someone else shows up--Superman!

Superman: You never said-- --that you knew. Santa.

What's Krampus up to? Does Superman also know Santa? Is he upset that his extremely secretive friend kept secrets from him? Will Santa and Krampus be able to reconcile due to Christmas Spirit? All this more I'm sure we'll find out in the next issues.

2024 Reading - June

"I predict I will finish between three and four books this month" I said at the start of the month.

If it wasn't for a quick Murderbot reread, I would have been wrong. Nothing is grabbing my interest right now, so I'm leaning on some trusted authors to buoy me.

#1-5 - All Systems Red, Artificial Condition, Rogue Protocol, Exit Strategy, and Fugitive Telemetry by Martha Wells - 4/5 stars (reread, audio)

I needed something familiar to listen to in the background. Murderbot never fails me.

I am still very behind on my reading goal, though, even with the help of some Murderbot novellas.

#6 - The Children of Húrin by J.R.R. Tolkien - 5/5 stars ('24 TBR)

Swordheart by T. Kingfisher - This had Kingfisher's usual straight-forward narrative style and no-nonsense characters, but at 30% almost nothing remarkable had happened, and there was some content I wasn't keen on.

Medusa's Gaze and Vampire Bite: The Science of Monsters by Matt Kaplan ('24 TBR) - A fun concept, but poorly executed. Felt more like Kaplan had already decided what the answers were behind the origins of the monsters he presented (clue: usually fossils or natural phenomena like earthquakes) instead of treating it like an investigation that took into account a wide variety of sources and fields of study. He drew a lot of really weird conclusions and a lot of them felt like a serious stretch. "One has to wonder" may be my new red flag in nonfiction. Reading Greek philosophers would be more insightful.

The Two-Space War by Dave Grossman and Leo Frankowski ('24 TBR) - A recommendation from my dad. I have no idea how he came across it, but I distinctly remember how excited he was when he told me about it, about how cool the concept was. (Funnily enough, if you squint, the concept is kind of like one of my perpetual writing WIPs, which is hilarious to me.) I couldn't get into it. However, I do have it set aside to try again when my attention span has improved a bit (probably this winter).

Entangled Life by Merlin Sheldrake (abridged) - Another one I couldn't get into. It read too much like a textbook to me, and I say that as someone who loves fungi. I probably should have given it more of a chance; maybe later. As a note: I ended up getting the new illustrated (and abridged) edition of this book from the library, and it is gorgeous. This is the kind of book I'd keep on my coffee table, if I had the sort of coffee table that was used for decor instead of storage.

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender by Leslye Walton ('24 TBR) - Dug this one out from deep in my longstanding TBR list and turned it on for some background noise. I only saw the content warnings when I went to log it as "currently reading", but decided to give it a chance because the writing was lovely. Didn't make it out of the first chapter.

i really struggle with anything that doesn't actually lead to sex, as much as it makes me sound like a gooner lmaoo. i have a hard time moving Plot along without it feeling super obvious that that's what i'm trying to do

i hate hate hate when it's not translated immediately. sorry, even when the perspective character isn't supposed to know, i get really annoyed when i don't know what a character is saying lmao

god, maybe shadowhunters? i tried my hand at writing a few pages for pretty much everything i liked when i was younger, so i'm really not sure what was really the first one. could be shadowhunters, grey's anatomy, five night's at freddy's, harry potter, percy jackson.... any one of those is totally possible

a sneak peek into chapter 15 (stolen from my outline): following cordelia's announcement, sera goes to maverick to look for aunt regina, who holds the most shares in clemonte corp. we find out that she is an infamous Knight and the hitwoman of the Round Table with high af body counts. she gives sera a warning: with arthur gone, the underworld will only fester and grow more rotten, only when there is a power above to keep them in check will the district run smoothly

day 04. fallen leaves ; create a playlist for your wip.

i am now a botanist /j. but i found out that foxglove flowers (aka digitalis) are poisonous and fatal when ingested. they look pretty but damn, they're deadly.

day 06. vampire ; tell us where you find your motivation and inspiration.

by consuming a ton of media. also when i brain dump on my friends and talk to someone about my wip!! right now, inspiration for knights comes from kdramas ballerina and my name, as well as narcos and mission impossible.

day 07. skeleton ; have a favourite plot structure? if not, share how you plot!

i used to be an pantser, but i have gotten better at outlining. you can say it has become a motivation for me lmaoo. 

day 08. trick or treat ; set some writing goals and milestones for your wip.

the knights wc goal is 150k and i've already only 39k on the doc :( you can tell i've been very slow in progress but hey, we're getting there!! my earliest chapters are like 4-5k average which is a little out of hand BUT i'm hoping to spread out the scenes more and slow down the main 4 protagonists' stupidity lol
