Thoughts about the phones before I flood your dash with rbs of them:

I like to think that after the events of the finale 3GS and Mephone went back to mecloud and kinda just inherited the business in a weird way. Like it'd just become there's but I feel like big business decisions would fall more to shareholders and other seniors in the company, I digress. I feel like when they get I the grove of things and feel more comfortable with meeple as a whole (because they'd def change some shit) it would probably dawn on Mephone that they could easily get their screens repaired.

Though, that thought brought on the thought of if they'd really want to or not. I like to imagine that the thought just pops into Mephone's head and he blurts it to 3GS who has mixed feelings. Maybe it's the idea of surgery, maybe it's the idea of losing scars... I don't know.

Like, I feel like 3GS would be the type to not fully mind having his cracked screen since he's had it for like a decade at this point, and even though it cracked while he was doing something horrible, it still sort of reminds him of his fallen comrades. Sort of a "Yes, a new screen would be nice, but it also isn't necessary. Plus cosmetic repairs seem like a bit of a waste of time," type of deal. I don't think he would've fully grown out of all of his soldier teachings, even though he grew out of most. I don't think he'd fully even recognise that he'd have an emotional connection to the crack through the soldiers but would lean more on the "It's not the most efficient choice given we're still trying to figure out our next steps with everything" side of things. If I'm making sense.

Mephone, on the other hand, would more likely have that thought to even do it 'cause he's gotten work done on him before, thinking back to s3 when he got his screen polished. I think he'd start out gungho about getting his screen replaced since it just reminds him of the most traumatic day of his life. I say that, but I also think that his crack would also have an air of "but now I'm free" for him. So I don't think he'd 100% fully hate it, but generally wouldn't like it. That being said, I think after talking to 3GS about the logistics of it, it'd hit him that he'd most likely have someone he didn't create root around his insides. Like, theoretically, he could go back to the hotel and very politely ask Test Tube to do the operation for him, but he's already kinda made a promise to himself to not mess with them anymore. On top of that, if he's going to try to live his own life, he's got to get more comfortable with talking to "real people". At this point, I've kinda just imagined that he's talked to different objects who work with Meeple, but not in-depth, so there's still a lot of anxiety around others. That paired with being worked on by a stranger is an inherently vulnerable position to be in and would also dissuade him from getting his screen replaced asap.

I think after a while though, Mephone would get his screen replaced. Like, one day (after talking about it extensively with multiple engineers) he's like "I can't fucking take looking at this crack any more please help me". It's also like, although he's not running Inanimate Insanity anymore, I don't think the persona would fully go away and he'd feel self-conscious about it.

That or maybe I'm thinking about these goobers too hard.

TL: Alright, first of all, I've been reading a lot of interviews about you; no-one asks you how your baby's doing, baby Anais...how is she?

NG: She's bald, fat, smelly and rowdy like all good babies should be. Sick and stuff. She's great. She's giving Meg a hard time.

TL: Is it good fun being a dad, do you enjoy it?

NG: Er, not at quarter-to-six in the morning I don't, no. When it gets to about midday it can be a good laugh, but half-five every morning's a bit of a pain but these things get better as they get older, I'm told.

TL: So what are you going to do, are you going to have loads of kids now, is that your plan? A big family?

NG: You can never plan these things, can you? But if...[pause]...yeah...if they come along, yeah.

TL: I was just thinking about this earlier on today, actually, that, because of your background and everything, how are you going to bring her up? Are you going to send her to one of those showbiz schools?

NG: Not showbiz schools, no chance.

TL: Are you scared of her becoming on of those showbiz kids which we see...

NG: She's going to be a lawyer. That's where all the money is. Seriously, [to Anais] if you're listening to a tape of this and it's like 2026... you're going to be a lawyer.

TL: Would you be really hurt if she became one of those 'It' kids...round London?

NG: I don't know, I suppose you've just got to let kids take their own path, haven't ya? As long as her mates aren't knobheads I don't mind what she does, really. She'll go to the local posh school but it won't be grooming her for stardom or anything, she'll be a lawyer. She has to be a lawyer. Or, hopefully, she'll be a lawyer who doubles as a doctor.

TL: That would be a good career move.

NG: Then she can then fuck up operations and not be arsed about getting sued...take peoples kidneys out and stuff like that.

TL: Has it changed you at all, being a dad?

NG: Erm, yeah because when you're pottering round the house and the baby starts crying everything comes to a complete and utter standstill. But I have to say I haven't been a dad in the football season yet and she's about to learn who actually is the governor in that house. Because it's been fine, no football; now it's the new football season and we're back in the Premiership it's gonna be like 'You can cry all you want. You can cry all you want - we've got a corner.' I get this vision of a Sunday, things coming out of all orifices and me going, 'Just hang on a minute, love...get it...oh. you beauty! No, not you!'

TL: So what takes priority now in your life - the band or the kid?

NG: It's gotta be the kid, really. I've given eight, nine years to the band, it's like...I've said before, when you're 26 and you're not married and you're single and you're living in London and you've not got a girlfriend and you're in the biggest band in England that is the time to enjoy stuff like that, and we did. And then, as you get older, you wanna - I wouldn't say 'settle down', but I don't want my kids, or any member of my family for that, getting up at two in the morning and seeing their dad there drunk. I'll leave that to their Uncle Liam.

What's something you always wanted to write into your Eleutherophobia fic that you just never had a spot for?

David. Love him as a character, even if I hate him as a person. But if I were to put him in the series, then:

This'd presumably have to involve him making some kind of deal with Crayak. And I don't want Crayak or the Ellimist in my fic.

The consequences for everyone's reputation would be massive and catastrophic. At minimum Rachel would get canceled by the internet. At maximum, the idea of charging all six kids with war crimes would suddenly be back on the table.

I have no idea what I'd do with him after the first scene or two of him interacting with the Berensons. Killing him would be inexcusable. But if he lives, he's going to do everything from rob banks to stalk Rachel to charge Jake with attempted murder.

Either he's no threat at all (because he's still stuck as a rat) or he's a life-ruining level of threat (because he's not stuck as a rat) to Jake. There is no in-between.

That said, I'd dearly love for him to interact with Tom at some point. Just long enough for them to get into a snake-measuring contest. And then for them both to discover that king cobras aren't cobras; king cobras are called that because they eat cobras.

It's that time of year again where I look back on everything I've done and go "wut" with varying levels of impressed and horrified. Anyway, I discovered that I really did not draw much at all this year.... o_o Especially in the second half. Whoops. (I think I did way more writing though, especially come Whumptober season, whereas in the beginning of the year it was more being socially dead and some drawing.) I'm calling this my Colored Lights year for the time being.

I don't know where you got that idea! Of course not - posting of the third book begins in April of this year, as noted on the first arc's page. Early access posting has already begun for Patreon. We talk about this quite a lot!

I finished an original draft this week and today I was compiling a document on character descriptions / background info to make the rewrite more meaty (I focused on getting this draft finished so now I'm left with the bare bones of a finished story).

Anyway I just had fun doing this:

I made a list for all the named characters (main POV and secondary) and for each POV character (there's 8 of them feckers) I have a section "how the character describes others" with the plain terms for each (on the pictured example, we have "older man", "sister", "furball", "tidy woman" and such). It was so helpful! A difficult part of working with several POVs is having them not sound same-y so this is gonna come in handy when I start the rewrite.

It also helped me notice the scope of my story! The strikethroughs are characters this POV does not interact with, and we had a 3-3-2 distribution with 3 POVs not interacting with 3 other chars, 3 POVs not interacting with 6 and 2 POVs not interacting with 7. That's a good variety I'd say!

And while I'm talking about all that as someone trying to write a story, this is the kind of analysis you can only make after you have a finished draft at least. It sounds like a fun exercise to do with any story one may like. (I think I'll take some notes next time I reread my favorite manga...)

had a dream last night about a house md season 9 that takes place a few years after the end of house md, and a new person applies to work at princeton plainsboro and she's a tall brunette woman with bright blue eyes and for the first few episodes she's on the show everything's totally normal but then there's some patient crisis and she's ordering everyone around like "i can handle [super complicated medical thing], you guys go [other less fun tasks]" and chase makes direct eye contact and goes "Who do you think you are" or something like that and that's the moment the audience realizes that after house faked his death she disappeared for a few years to transition, changed her name, and then went right back to working at the same hospital. and somehow the only person to realize she's house is chase
