Drawing David Bowie was one of the many things I didn’t expect to draw in the “642 Things to Draw” book but here we are and I drew him! When it came to drawing David Bowie, I had originally wanted to draw him as his character The Goblin King from my favorite movie “Labyrinth” but I thought that would be too obvious. So, I decided to draw him as his stage persona Ziggy Stardust since I wasn’t too familiar with it and I found his look to be very interesting. I had a lot of fun drawing this version of him and kind of want to draw more of his Ziggy Stardust character! @davidbowie I hope you like it. 642 things to draw: 2017 daily calendar

I bought this daily doodle calendar in 2017 and did my best to doodle every day, mostly in my office on a short, five-minute break (or often on a shortly longer “catch-up-on-all-the-ones-I-missed”-15-doodle-a-thon-break). 

I could definitely see a progression in my ability from drawing (nearly) every day, though my limitations on time often affect not only the style but the concept as well. And my rule that I only used what was in front of me (sometimes office pens and highlighters, other times a nice set of microns) created variables on the final doodle.On a side note, since I’ve stopped actively doodling every day, I have noticed a drop in my skill, though the improvement from this exercise is still noticeable. 

Either way, it was fun trying to doodle every day, and I will openly admit more than a handful of these ended up being finished in 2018 (and a baby’s handful in 2019), and I hope you enjoy taking a trip through my interpretations of Chronicle Books “642 Things to Draw - 2017 Daily Calendar” prompts over the course of 2017.

Hey y’all! It’s been a while! For the past 6 months of 2022 I was doing a long term substitute job at the high school that I started back in October and it took up a huge amount of my time that I barely had any time to not only do commissions but my own art as well. The sub job had left me exhausted almost every single day that I found it difficult to do any art the second I got home. It felt like I had no motivation whatsoever even though I desperately wanted to draw. However, despite the job being a lot, it was still rewarding in the end because many of the students appreciated having me as their substitute teacher and that made me happy. I know I will miss many of the students. After the school year was over, I decided to take a month off to relax and recover and watch shows and movies and read books and play games that I have missed and whatnot. I didn’t realize how much I needed a little bit of R&R!! But now I am back and am ready to draw again! I recently bought myself a drawing book on Amazon called “642 things to draw”. I wanted to use it as a way to get me back into drawing since many of the exercises are simple and easy to practice on. So today’s drawing are lollipops!
