Look at this stupid-ass hexdump. Every fucking byte of this file from 0x004B to 0x13C0 is either '0', '1', '2', '3', '4', '5', '6', '7', '8', '9', 'A', 'B', 'C', 'D', 'E', or 'F'.

This program is anti-compressed. Every byte of machine code is encoded as two bytes of plaintext characters.

Why would you ever do that. Why would you want your executable to stored as plaintext hex digits. It's certainly not for ease-of-editing--the file-initial "AsmPrgm" token (BBh 6Ch) prevents you from opening the file in the onboard editor--and it's definitely not for program integrity checking either. So why on Earth did TI think this was the move to make?

Baffling and upsetting. Thank god the execution model permits self-modifying and self-extracting compressed programs.

Rough timeline of Hell

Tldr: devils are such grandpas.

Has anyone managed to write down the timeline in hell yet? Because for now I'm slowly catching up on what I wasn't there and I have to write everything down so I don't get lost. I've done some math before, trying to figure out how many years have passed since Solomon disappeared. I will quickly refresh this information a bit - Most things haven't changed, but I should mention that we now know that time in Hell and on Earth passes at different times and rates. So today a minute may pass, and tomorrow a year may pass.

For the sake of keeping some data, we'll stick with the average I calculated earlier, because I haven't found a better point of reference yet. So - one year in hell is 6.6 years on earth.

Quick proportions: 365*365/6.6 =~56 days

That would mean MC has been in hell for about two months.

Possible? I guess so. I don't remember MC's exact time in hell being given anywhere, but I haven't read 6Ch yet. Devils believe that for them practically no time has passed, but they are long-lived, there's no point in believing them. This is of course the time of the main storyline.

Now it's time for something worse. Two months is a piece of cake - now we'll be playing with years. Let's start with the order in which the kingdoms were formed.

Tartaros - Definitely the first, judging by little Mammon's event.

Hades - I'm betting on the latter, because when Satan formed Gehenna, Levi was already on the throne. We know this from both Sitri and Amy events.

Gehenna - After these two, I think the third one is Gehenna. When Satan found Sitri (which was during his takeover of Gehenna), the other kings also showed up and had their eyes on him. Mammon and Levi. Beel didn't show up then.

Avisos - Continuing, Beel may not have appeared because he didn't care, or because he wasn't king. I have no information on that. So I'd put him somewhere between Hades or not far after Gehenna.

Abaddon - no information. From Asmodeus himself and his behavior I would think he could have taken power quite early, but who the hell knows.

Niflheim - I haven't gotten to that event yet, but from what I've seen of people's mentions, no one really knows what to do with them. Rather leaning towards one of the younger countries. It makes sense that Belphi simply didn't feel like it lol

Paradise Lost - The last of the countries, what we know from Luci's event.

Why did I present this? So that we could have some first idea - because now comes the math. Again. Yay.

Sitri, Amy, and Levi allow us to roughly (very roughly) count how much time has passed since the founding of Gehenna to the arrival of the MC. Thanks to the fact that events overlap with the main plot. Long live backstories.

311 years passed from the moment Solomon disappeared until the appearance of MC.

Solomon lived in hell from 100 to 150 years.

Sitri spent almost 100 years in Hades studying.

Sitri and Amy met every five years at Gehenna meetings so regularly that they made a fandom. It's quite modern, post-Solomon times. We can assume about 50-100 years. That's not a problem for now, because…

…They have known each other for hundreds of years, which ranges from 200 to 999 years.

All these events create a timeline something something like this:

We need to assume something to be able to operate on numbers.

For minimum: 100+200+311-50 = 561

For maximum: 100+999+311-100 = 1310

So the average is: (561+1310)/2=935,5

This would mean that somewhere between 561 and 1310 years passed from the founding of Gehenna to the appearance of the MC. With probability leaning closer to 935 years, since we have nothing better than an average.

I think these assumptions are enough for now. Especially since we have no idea what the truth is. As you can see, there are a lot of maybes and ifs. But still, I think it's interesting to at least try to grasp how older our sexy boys are.

Of course if you have something to add, add it! I could be wrong on so many levels that I don't even know if it's worth posting this, but I had too much fun writing it (and maybe I'll learn something more from you!)

Aren't you tired yet? So, I have another funfact. It falls into the category of conspiracy theories are my passion. (They are as you see.)

From the moment Solomon appeared in hell to the moment MC appeared, approximately 461 years passed. If MC lived a similarly long life, that's a total of 611 years. In terms of Earth years, the entire cycle, from when Solomon appeared to when Solomon's descendant disappeared, would take about 4,000 Earth years. (611*6.6)

What's interesting about this, you ask?

Let me quote something: "The chronology [of the Bible] is highly schematic, marking out a world cycle of 4,000 years."

been working on 6ch of the pet thing, and the draft needed quite a bit of structural rework, but i'm finally at a point where all the elements are fitted and accounted for!!!!! rrraghrrrhh!!!!!!

it's a difficult chapter; it has haku's suicide attempt, but more importantly it is the spot where the pet mentality clicks into place.

one of the main goals of the whole project is to crack open the hostage/submission/pet mindset, and i don't mean describing it--i want to show it! forming, taking roots and becoming the norm; outlasting the master, morphing again--it's more central to the story than romance or demon slaying.

it's a difficult thing to describe, let alone show! but i really want to do it!! and fuck, it's why i'm gripping this work so hard: it can be done here! i set up the structure of the whole thing, figured how to work it into the narrative, how to make the protag the perfect mirror, and fuck, it's all slotting into place now!!!

this chapter is haku's attempt to fight back, but he fails. he can't kill himself. and it is the lack of fight, BUT ALSO lack of strength/knowledge/energy/resources. he IS weak and sick, and there is enough for the reader to deduce that he WOULD have gone through it otherwise.

but! he himself doesn't acknowledge how everything is stacked against him! nor give himself credit for trying!

if he recognized the attempt, he could've told himself to try again later, he could've kept a shard of agency with him. but he doesn't! (part of it is the same exhaustion and sickness: he can't think straight)

the beauty, the PEARL of the thing is this: in the aftermath of his failure he only sees his own lack of fight. he sees it as him being 'eh' about the only thing left that is worth saving. and it's THAT demoralizing reaction that actually makes him give up. not the failed attempt itself.

do you see this? giving up once you assume you've already given up? even when you haven't? the emotional reaction still outweighing the physical action?

i'm near manic with glee right now, AGH! literally catching the moment this thing defeats him, FUCK! I GOT IT IN MY FIST I CAUGHT THE BUG I CAUGHT THE BUG

CS Fic Rec Monday: "One Thrill Ride Leads to Another" by: @jrob64

Hello out there in Tumblrland! :) Since it is my school break, and I have (at least a bit) more time on my hands, I'm going to make a real effort to get myself back in the habit of making more CS Fic Rec Monday recommendations. There are SO MANY brilliant and amazing stories from this wonderful show and our favorite characters out there, even some seven or so years after OuaT went off the air. I could never hope to touch on all the many gems, but I really want to shout out more of them, and maybe bring them to the attention of people who might have missed them the first time around.

That being said.... First up this week is a short MC by @jrob64 called "One Thrill Ride Leads to Another". Now, I might be biased because it was originally crafted as a birthday gift for me ;p (and because I am nothing if not a sucker for a fic with a living and happy Graham as a supporting character) but this fic is such a treat and so much fun to read that I think everyone should get a chance to experience it for themselves.

Emma and Ruby go on a trip to Florida, meet Killian and Graham, and what follows is sweet, entertaining, irresistible modern AU perfection! I really don't want to spoil too much, but this would be a fun one to check out by the pool this summer, so DON'T MISS OUT!!!

Growing up by Werecakes (Complete, 5K, 1ch.)- I've been shopping for a good childhood friends to lovers, and this was really adorable. Bilbo and Thorin have been friends for a long time, but when Bilbo is engaged in an arranged marriage, Thorin might have something to say about that. I would love to go more in depth in this universe, but it's pretty cute for what it is.

Of Acorns and Barley by orphan_account (Complete, 2K, 1ch.)- This is a classic courting fic! Bilbo asks for advice on how to court Thorin, but Thorin just thinks its a joke the company is playing on him. Fun little fic that's good for the Bagginshield feelios.

Wait for me in the Aurora Bearalis by Lucigoo89 (Complete, 2K, 1ch.)- Let me tell you something, I legit sobbed at this fic. Bilbo is a red panda reaching the end of his life, and Thorin has to say goodbye. If you're wanting some good angst that just hits you with all the warmth of a long love, this is it.

The Gift of Hobbits by MoroseBarnacle (Complete, 26K, 6ch.)- Honestly this his so many tropes for me! Hobbits can actually bring people back from the dead if the bond is strong enough. Such a roller coaster of emotions, I loved it.

The Nine Lives of Bilbo Baggins by captain (theoddoodisnude) (Complete, 15K, 1ch.)- This is always top on my reread list. Bilbo has been blessed by a faerie to be able to die nine times and come back from them. Instant classic!

M Rated:

Backs to the Wall by Conkers (WIP, 97K, 19ch.)- I held off on this fic for a long time, not because I was worried I wasn’t going to enjoy it, but because I knew how much it would have me foaming at the mouth. Missing the deadline, the Company splits up at Laketown with Thorin, Dwalin, Nori, and Bilbo remaining to earn some coin. I’m beside myself with the gentle, sweet moments of pre-Bagginshield that have me screaming.

One-Sided Conversations by northerntrash (Complete, 94K, 38ch.)- This was on my read for later list, and I'm so glad I gave it a chance. Looking to escape, Thorin ends up in the room of a man in a coma and finds it easy to unload his troubles. This story really progresses well and the Bagginshield moments are adorable!

The Deepest Secret by Wizards_Pupil (Complete, 103K, 31ch.)- It's starts off very Jane Eyre-esque but evolves into your usual Erebor Never Fell conspiracy fic. Bilbo is hired as a gardener and slowly begins to fall in love with the master of the mansion. Even after the three times I've read this fic, there's still plot points that I catch me completely off-guard. Very well done.
