Order Stansfatua is a group of carnivorous, frequently bipedal Pokemon. Members frequently have the following traits:

Defined, if not necessarily long, snouts

Defined foreclaws.

Fierce personalities.

Bipedal or frequently bipedal stance.

Members may not always have these traits, but having several of them is enough to include them in the order.

Order Stansfatua is an old one, and so it’s members are far-flung and varied, with no real discernable source.

Family Prodigiosum, containing the lone species of Stufful and Bewear, is distantly related to the other members of the order, with long-lasting debate as to whether or not they are more closely related to Parvacorporis or Magnacorporis. However, due to the aggressive, reclusive, and difficult to subdue natures of Stufful and Bewear, further research has been difficult.

The members of the genus Ursa, named for the species Ursaring, are all very closely related despite their wildly different typings, and share a very recent common ancestor. All three are known for their formidable size and intense power, allowing them to easily become apex predators in their respective ecosystems. Despite their unfriendly natures however, they are still popular among human cultures in the modern day, with many people from Johto traditionally owning at least one stuffed “Teddy” as a child.

Family Parvacorporis is the most varied of the order, but also tends to get less attention than it’s bombastic sibling lines.

Genus Stabit is named for the fact that it’s members are completely comfortable walking bipedally. All members of Stabit have large, pronounced claws that make it difficult for them to walk quadrupedally. Members of this genus are obligate carnivores and are well known for taking down prey much more dangerous than themselves; Sneasel and Zangoose are often popular school sport team mascots in their native regions as a result.

Genus Brunneis is a much more subdued group of species in comparison. They are characterized by their completely quadrupedal appearance, shorter legs, and brown fur with darker stripes. Linoone and Furret are very calm, sometimes even shy species, and are very hesitant to bite or scratch, making them popular first Pokemon for young trainers.

Members of Genus Corpravum are bicolored, with paler bellies and darker backs, are frequently bipedal with a tendency to lean forward as they walk, and do not have as strongly defined claws as other species. There has been middling debate about whether or not the two species should be put in their own genuses, but overall consensus is that they belong to a single genus. Typhlosion, despite it’s aggressive nature (leading to frequent tussles between Typhlosion and Ursaring when their territories intersect), has earned a place as one of the ‘starter pokemon’ of the Johto region; while they may or may not necessarily be easier to train than other Pokemon, starter pokemon are considered to be ‘mascots’ of their regions, and are widely beloved (and often over caught) as a result. Gumshoos, has a much poorer reputation. While originally brought in to control other invasive species, the nocturnal nature of their prey made them incapable of completing their goals, and now Yungoos and Gumshoos are seen as just another pest on the islands.

Mienshao is alone in it’s own Genus, Ornate, due to it’s relatively unusual anatomy. It has the longer anatomy of Brunneis, and the upright nature of Stabit, but also the slightly larger size of Corpravum, with no significant claws. As a result, Ornate militaresartes is an evolutionary oddball, but has found a middling amount of popularity in both battle and contest rings due to it’s beautiful appearance and significant strength.
