#8a contracts

It's almost funny that ryan thinks his scenes got randomly cut when even kenny told him nah it's because you're not doing the work. And tim has been very open about him being his favorite... As if it's any better for the others. I remember in 8a when oliver teased a big buckbobby scene and it got cut. And then he was like ok buck is single again but actually his most important relationship is bobby. And then they take him away too! Not to mention everything that was cut in s7. That's just how they run the show apparently.
its honestly just astounding the level of sheer ego it takes to halfass the work and then get MAD when the people who actually whole-ass it get highlighted more. like. dude. normal people get fired for that. his contract must be fucking ironclad at this point holy crap.

I keep seeing all this press thing and just getting and the feeling of disconnected behind scenes and Im wondering if someone is going to get fired …
Tumblr media
Okay, so, nuance. It depends on what created the disconnect. I'm assuming that whatever derailed the season and made Tim perma kill Bobby is what threw everything for a loop, so it would depend on how involved abc actually was with Peter leaving the show and all storylines being paused. Everyone and their mother is throwing Tim under the bus and making it seem like Tim went rogue but the concept of Tim being unsupervised enough to break a contract, in this case Peter's, on a whim and fully derail the plans for the season is crazy. Especially considering the amount of money that was put on the show. So it is a question of if the communication did happen but it was too late to cancel the stuff they had planned or if there was no communication and they weren't informed at all that the plan changed until it did because a lot of the season was changed given what we know. No matter what, people involved in Bobby dying for good and Ryan thinking he was fired for a month are having some uncomfortable meetings. But if this was a case of all parties agreeing they needed to break Peter's contract and it having unfortunate consequences, then it's probably a lot of damage control and probably some extra points surrounding the plan of s9 so it can't change as much.
BUT y'all know I have a lot of theories around the switch to abc, it all coming back to how I believe buddie was part of the reason they bought the show and that's the reason for the tone shift with them in 6b and for Buck come out the second they could get him out, also because they ordered a new 911 show instead for buying lone star, so they wanted a franchise out of it but only the og had something pre existing they wanted. In my humble opinion, those things were Angela Bassett, because she's Angela Bassett, and buddie, because one of a kind queer slowburn and abc wants a glaad award. And assuming I'm right about that, they have it in contract that buddie has to happen. My original theory, based on the promo, was that the deal was s7 get one of them out, s8 you get the other out, and s9 plays the will they/won't they. I thought that because of how much promo Ryan did for the end of s7 and 8a, and after the will they won't they from the deadline article, the end of season press tour and upfronts being planned around ryliver, also stuff like the jeopardy question, now the heads up pride deck, ryliver being how they announced s8, the amount of ryliver and buddie content posted to their Instagram, the NBA ad, it feels like the pr was under the impression that Eddie would be out by the end of s8 but he didn't come out. Because if they did all that knowing Eddie would be labeled straight 3 times before Buck got a single I'm bi out, then this is diabolical levels of queerbaiting. Because people can fight me all they want, using ryliver the way they were makes people expect buddie. Buck being out doesn't save them because they aren't teasing Buck with a guy, they are teasing Buck with Eddie. That's queerbaiting because it gives the impression that Buck is gonna get with Eddie and Eddie not queer. Promising queer with no follow through. Anyways...
So assuming I'm right about things the only way I would ever confirm is if one of the producers of the show decided to answer my questions honestly, if the pr was happening that way because there was a contractual expectation surrounding the buy that both of them would be out by the end of s8 and that didn't happen, then heads are rolling. No one wants to be in the middle of queerbaiting scandal in 2025 in the middle of people going to war because a character was written off. Especially not in the middle of producing a new spin off for the show. If all this happened because someone decided that buddie wasn't gonna happen yet for whatever reason and just didn't inform abc because they didn't feel like it, then everyone is about to have a really bad summer.
Those are the 2 extremes of the situation. The question is where the reality of the situation really is and what caused the shift in the show and the subsequent disconnect. We will probably not know unless someone gets very publicly fired. Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Okay i saw your answer on etrogs so it made me wonder: etrog vs rimon, which is more Jewish?? (I’m not actually invested in a definite answer, but I’m VERY invested in the debate)
Rating: HERE’S THE DEBATE YOU WANTED
Answering this question necessarily requires a working definition of what makes something “more” or “less” Jewish, and what that definition is results in several different answers with their corresponding justifications. Does “more Jewish” mean “more important to Judaism religiously”? Or “more important to Jewish culture?” Or “belonging uniquely to Jews as opposed to any other enthno-religious group?” So, here goes:
More religiously important: ETROG. The etrog, also known as the citron, is one of the four species critical to the celebration of the Festival of Sukkot. Leviticus 23:40 commands that “on the first day [of Sukkot] you shall take the product of hadar trees, branches of palm trees, boughs of leafy trees, and willows of the brook, and you shall rejoice before your God seven days.” “Hadar” translates to “splendor” or “beauty” and is traditionally read to refer to the etrog tree. Interestingly, the Jerusalem Talmud suggests the possibility that “hadar tree” could refer to pomegranates before dismissing it, as the pomegranate has a “beautiful fruit but not beautiful wood,” (or possibly vice versa, scribal texts disagree), whereas the etrog has both beautiful fruit and beautiful wood, along a beautiful scent. (Jerusalem Talmud Sukkah 3:5:2). All that aside, there is mitzvah d’orieta (a religious obligation directly from the Torah, as opposed to an obligation established by the rabbis, a mitzvah d’rabbanan) that requires the use of the etrog, whereas all religious use of the pomegranate, such as at a Tu B’shvat Seder or as a siman on Rosh HaShanah, have merely the force of minhag (religious custom, not law).
More important to Jewish culture: RIMON. Pomegranates feature in a huge amount of Jewish art, especially as decoration on pretty much any Jewish ritual item. You can find them on everything from ketubot (marriage contracts) to hanukkiot (hanukkah menorahs). I’ve seen pomegranate tallitot, pomegranate mezuzot, pomegranate tzedakah boxes, etc. Personally, in my house, we have four different pomegranate mezuzot, a pomegranate hand-washing cup for ritual handwashing, pomegranate candlesticks, a pomegranate kiddush cup, and, ironically enough, an etrog box decorated with— you guessed it— pomegranates. (I also have pomegranate earrings and pomegranate socks, thank you fiance) (At the time of this writing, this blog is also a Jewish thing decorated with pomegranates). A search for “pomegranate” on Judaica.com offers 197 results, whereas a search for “etrog” turns up 4 actual lulav and etrog sets, plus 13 decorative boxes designed to safely hold one’s etrog during sukkot and not as decoration at all.
Pomegranates are one of the seven species biblically associated with the land of Israel, along with wheat, barley, grapes, fig, olives, and dates (Deuteronomy 8:8)-- a list that does not include etrogim. They are also an important motif throughout Shir haShirim (Song of Songs), in which the lovers frequently compare each other’s beauty to that of a pomegranate. Pomegranates symbolize beauty, fertility, fecundity, mitzvot, and merit, as in the annual Rosh HaShanah wish that “our merits be as plentiful as the seeds of the pomegranate.” A common (though inaccurate) bit of folk wisdom gives the number of seeds in a pomegranate as 613, one for each of the commandments given in the Torah.
In a particularly entertaining digression in the Talmud (Bava Metzia 8a) in which the rabbis are comparing their physical attributes (yes, this means exactly what you think it does), the narrative voice pauses to explain that if you want to understand just how unbelievably gorgeous Rabbi Yochanan was, you should take a “silver goblet from the smithy and fill it with red pomegranate seeds and place a diadem of red roses upon the lip of the goblet, and position it between the sunlight and shade. That luster is a semblance of Rabbi Yoḥanan’s beauty.” Does this really support my thesis? As minor evidence at most, but I will seize any opportunity to share that description.
Meanwhile, the etrog does not appear as a symbol or decoration in and of itself, only in the context of Sukkot and the other three Sukkot species. You may indeed see an etrog on the Torah curtain in Tishrei or in a panel of stained glass in the synagogue… but you’ll only know it’s an etrog because it has the lulav right next to it, generally as part of an array of holiday-related symbols. (I do, in fact, also own an etrog earring, but just the one— the other one is a lulav, thank you sibling.) There are a plethora of midrashim on what exactly the etrog symbolizes, but always as part of a set. For example, it’s often associated with the heart, to go along with the palm frond’s spine, the myrtle’s mouth, and the willow’s eye. As my fiance put it, “If you see a pomegranate on something, there’s a decent chance it’s Jewish. But without the lulav, an etrog just looks like a lemon, and there’s nothing particularly Jewish about lemons.”
Belonging Uniquely to Jews: ETROG. The citron is widely agreed to be one of three “true” members of the citrus family, along with the mandarin and pomelo, with all others the results of hybridization. Archeological and primary-document research confirms that the citron originated in eastern India and southern China, and was found in Sumerian ruins dating from more than six thousand years ago. It is referenced in the Vajasaneiy Samhita, a compilation of Vedic religion texts, called Yajur-Veda (ca. 1200-1000 B.C.E), and early Greek and Latin writers describe the citron clearly, mentioning its use as an antidote to poisons and a way to ward off moths from one’s clothes.* However, a 2015 study found evidence that the diffusion of the citron throughout southern Italy and the surrounding region dated to the destruction of the Second Temple and subsequent Jewish diaspora. The study concludes that their results “evidence the special role played by Jews in the spread of the citron as the authentic sacred fruit used in their Tabernacles ritual.”* It is worth noting that there is a variety of citron known as “Buddha’s Hand” that may be used as offerings in Buddhist temples, but it looks so dramatically different from what we know as an etrog as to be a different item entirely (and, indeed, multiple rabbis have ruled that it should not be used for fulfilling the mitzvah). Thus, the etrog is inextricably and uniquely linked to Jews.
On the other side of the debate, pomegranates appear frequently in art, stories, and cultural artifacts throughout the world, particularly in the Middle and Near East. These stories range from the Ancient Greek myth of Hades and Persophone, whose consumption of pomegranate seeds kept her in the underworld for the winter each year, to a Buddhist legend of a child-eating/stealing demoness whom the Buddha convinced to only eat pomegranates and become a patron goddess of children.  Greece, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, among others, consider the pomegranate to be one of their important symbols. Traditions regarding pomegranates abound, including a Greek custom of smashing a pomegranate on the new year for good luck. They are widely considered a symbol of fertility, abundance, and good luck, similarly to their symbolism in Judaism. In short, while Jews are very into pomegranates, so are a lot of other cultures.

Things the Radio Demon Is No Longer Allowed to Do AU
Imagine a AU where Lilith is detained, her schemes unravelled and she's on trial, Alastor is also on trial as her accomplice. Everyone expects Alastor was in on it from the start and fully deserves the nasty punishment coming his way except...
Alastor was ordered to sabotage the hotel? He did the exact opposite the entire time and lied/ommited/fabricated and bullshitted to Lilith's face.
As the trial goes on its clear Alastor was actually working against Lilith to the best of his ability despite her outright owning his soul.
Alastor? He's got reams of paperwork evidence, paper trails, audio recordings , witness statements, live witnesses and receipts. He even has (wiping his hands as he hands over the evidence in the format that deeply offends him) video recordings. Alastor has documentation out the wazoo, he is willing to make a deal to prove his honesty, like no lying for the duration of the trial.
This is a demon who is really, really, really bad at taking orders or compromising his Pride on any matter.
Then Lucifer and the Sins then actually take a look at the contract Alastor was under and there are so many added appendices and sub clauses to each section that it's clear they were added to close any Loopholes Alastor was caught abusing. And there are many.
For example:
8. Contractee Alastor the Radio Demon is forbidden from attempting to poison his owner. ("eh, it was worth a shot" Alastor, idly picking his nails)
8a. He is also is forbidden from paying someone to poison his owner. (Alastor shrugs "it could have worked")
8b. Or purposely cook any item served in such a way as incur lethal food poisoning. (Alastor looking disappointed in himself "mama please forgive my kitchen trespass")
8c. Or pay someone to cook any item served in such a way as incur lethal food poisoning. ("I was spoiled for choice really, hell eateries aren't held to any health & safety standards, not even the ones in the other rings" more than one hellborn watching the trial subtly erasing their fast-food apps on their phones. )
8d. Or use cooking ingredients that while edible are not edible to demons. ("My alligators never complained when I fed it to them" The Radio Demon, pouting)
8e. Or replace regular meat produce with sinner meat. (coyly glancing at the bound and gagged Lilith who can't do anything to stop him singing like a songbird and ratting her out "Don't you want your inter beauty to shine? The eyes are the windows to the soul, why not show the bleak black soul you have to all of creation?")
8f. Poisoning includes attempting to poison his owner with slow acting neurological diseases. ("I almost thought it worked when she started acting erratic one day! Then it turns out she'd just had a meeting with Adam" Alastor with a disgusted look "which, fair." )
9. Alastor is no longer allowed to utilise radiation in such a manner as to contaminate any item his owner needs to exist including food, hydrating liquids and clothing garments. (Widely grinning Alastor "I had to expand my reading to figure out that trick, never got a chance to test out a emp though!")
9a. Alcohol has been added to the list of items Alastor is no longer allowed to contaminate tamper or interfere with. ("...Alcohol is not a hydrating drink" Alastor points out smugly, Husk elsewhere watching the trial, quite offended. )
Ect.
It takes hours going over the contract in court, All of Hell is glued to the screen as Alastor flexes his showman performance. (Vox is a bit jealous actually)
Alastor is a rulelawyering nightmare of a contractee and the ammendments to his contract make it so long that if it had a physical weight Satan would sprain his wrist from the sheer weight of it.
What gets Alastor off scot free is that when asked he admits aloud under his truth deal that Charlie grew on him like fungus and that he is fond *Feelings? Eurgh, yuck* of her and wants her to (help her upset a millenia old status quo and make the angels thank her for it on bended knee, pissing off Lilith as a bonus) succeed.
Yes, that sounds like the cunning bastard, alright.

knowing that 8x05 was filmed like that after the break up in 8x06 is what makes me 100% believe that tommy is coming back in 8b
if we didn't know they filmed in that order, or if there was 2-3 episodes between 8x05 and the break up, plans could have changed. but one right after the other makes this look very much like part of the will they/won't they slow burn rom-com oliver have talked about wanting for buck
(plans can still change before they film the rest of 8b, but as of 8x07 i still have hope)
i entirely agree, and you're 100% right. I think one thing we've learned this year though, is that when Tim says he doesn't plan more than a few episodes ahead, that's more individual story than overarching arc. and honestly as a writer, i can concur. anytime you set out to tell a story, sometimes the narrative leads you elsewhere. sometimes in television, it's someone's schedule. to that end, i sincerely hope that when they made the decision that they did to split them up and lean into the rom-com trope, that they went into it knowing they planned to bring Lou back. I struggle to imagine a version of the story where they didn't, but anything is possible, and stupider things have happened.
i also think that if you go back and read Ollie's interviews from the overarching discussion moving towards the middle episodes of 8a, there's far more context. yes, sure, absolutely the interviews from last week were damning, but again, "plausible deniability" and the idea that you don't want your story given away before it's told both come together to give a prime answer as to why those questions were answered that way. none of what they said were flat-out lies. they're not going to tell us if they work it out in interviews because they want us to watch, the same way Lou says he doesn't know. I don't believe for a second if continuing the rom-com trope was the plan from the jump that they told him they were "ending the storyline". Obviously contracts play a big part in all of that. Of the conversations I've had in my group chat, we've talked about with TM's mention of contemplating the breakup over several weeks had anything to do with Lou's schedule for Rocker. Another thought I'd brought to the discussion was whether the breakup and the responses given by TM & Co were done on purpose. It shouldn't be lost on anybody, the way that the GA and the fandom have attached themselves to the character of Tommy. However, we know that ABC probably ponies up a pretty penny for the show, between budgets and salaries. I can imagine that Lou probably has a pretty decent day rate, and I've heard of actors turning down a main cast role because the offer for being a main is less than what they're paid to guest star. To that end, if the option was floated at all after how things went over, and ABC didn't want to cough up the money, this current arc is a great way to expose that weakness and show why they need to put the money up. (Bare in mind that there's nothing evidencing towards this whatsoever other than my own speculation).
That all said, I'm still hopeful. I've been pretty sold on this not being the end of the arc for bucktommy basically since the beginning. the only question that remains is how long they'll drag it for.

🤠 (cause I need to know about it from a fellow cowboy au writer haha)
and ofc 😎 and 🧑‍🚒 because I’m looking respectfully!!
Hi! sorry for such a really long answer. The life and studing was crazy. But here all three fics:
Cowboys:
“What are your plans for the fall?”
Tommy turns to him, “why?”
“Well, the season is almost over, as our contracts and I think about going to Miami, or Peru. I never was in Peru. I miss the bartender job.”
Tommy nods. That sounds like Evan. He feels something coming, his breath stopping.
“We can go together, I’m sure a firefighter can find a job for himself anywhere. Or maybe you are from Florida, huh?”
Tommy feels his chest harder and squeeze his lugs too hard. There it is. The falling.
Frat boys:
“Can you play anything except Nirvana or any other rock songs?” Evan asks, not taking his eyes from his goal. He will send the paper airplane exactly to Tommy’s desk from this bed.
“Why your pop-boy ears can’t take it?”
and 8a s au with Sal:
“Where’s he?” Tommy rushes to Sal, when he sees the man near the doors. “Where’s Evan, Sal? How bad?”

I don't think RG will return to the show after next week's episode. Then there's only Buck as the typical "bachelor" that every TV show has. Maybe that's why TM said in that interview that there will be distractions for Buck. The hooking up starting again, and never giving him a good relationship, (I miss BuckTommy), even though he has grown so much as a person. (I just don't trust TM.) Or do you think they will focus on Ravi a bit more?
Hi, Nonnie!
I'm on the fence about this. I've seen other blogs bring contract negotiations up, and I do have to agree. RG's latest interview where he stated he didn't even know if he would be in this half at all is very telling, IMO. Of course, we don't know a fraction of what's happening, but I wouldn't be too surprised if this is all a direct result of not-quite-satisfactory contract negotiations. We'll see the outcome of those negotiations once the season ends.
But for now, I don't think it's even decided if RG fully leaves or not. It makes me roll my eyes because it feels like Season 5.2 and that's just a bit frustrating.
I don't have a lot of hope on them focusing on Ravi more, although I would love that and have been wishing for more Ravi-focused storylines for years atp. I don't have a lot of trust it will happen, but I am manifesting we get something, instead of just Ravi being there and no explanation of where he was during 8a.
As for Buck's SL ... yeah, it seems like there will be a small comeback of his Buck 1.0 days, and that perhaps it makes him feel different than what it used to make him feel back in the day. On my clowning days, I do think it's a way of making him 'grow' and 'learn' (which we had all seen him do several seasons ago, but oh well), and be at a place where he can get back with Tommy by the end of the season. On my pessimistic days, I just think the writers don't have a clue on what to do with him, or with barely any of the characters.
Anyway, my inbox is open for ranting, venting, giving your opinion (unpopular or popular, I'm happy to receive and discuss both), and even confessions! Though if you don't want yours posted, please make sure to say :)
Take care <3

ヽ(=゚ω゚)人(゚ω゚=)ノ
woe: oc ask game be upon ye:
4, 5, 8, 11, 19, 27, 28!!!!
THANK YOUUUU
4. Are any of your OCs part of a larger story or project? If not, what sorts of things do you use them for (drawing, daydreaming, etc)?
most of the ocs that i tag on posts are actually ocs i use in danganronpa roleplays/general roleplay things! i like it when my characters are heavily tied to a job/title that they hold because you can get some really fun complexes out of it, and it also lets me research things i wouldn't really have an excuse to otherwise, like mortuary work or gang stuff. arnold and reese (both ocs that i need to add to my masterpost, whoops) are the odd ones out, as they're both from a script i've been workshopping for the past few years
5. Do you tend to keep OCs for a long time?
oh absolutely. i can't stand the idea of giving them away. the oldest oc of mine that i still use in things is amai adachi, who i've had since 2018, but gummycore oldheads might remember apollo and iris from when i was in high school
8. Talk about three of your newest OCs.
8a. keiko uzumaki, ultimate unicyclist! he was really fun to design because i loooove gyaru fashion, especially ganguro gyaru. i would've given him a lei, but it was too hard to draw LMAO. keiko is insanely anti-authoritarian and individualistic to the point where i describe his ideology as "whatever the opposite of a hivemind" is. he's fun and peppy and talks like a valley girl and thinks conformity will lead to the death of the human race. kisses! xoxo
Tumblr media
8b. malachi ferreras, ultimate parody artist! irritating and self-deprecating, malachi is a total shut-in who makes his living as a ghost writer for a youtuber that has a side career in music. once that youtuber got cancelled, malachi ditched his contract and stepped into the limelight as an artist writing only for himself. after enough time talking to him, you start to wonder if him coming into the public eye was a good thing after all... (i'm very excited to use him in a roleplay. i love writing shitty comedians)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
8c. oh god i dont have any new ones can i skip this
11. Which OCs do you feel like you know the best?
after all these years it's definitely izo. i've brainrotted about literally every aspect of that man's life for several years
19. Do you ever make AUs for your OCs?
sometimes! im not much of an au person when it comes to my ocs, but i'll sometimes toy with swap aus. love me a good swap au
27. Name an OC who has a very defined aesthetic.
if i hadn't already talked about keiko i'd put him here, so here's vivienne! pretty much my only oc that i can put in cutesy lolita fashion LMAO. i have too many guys in their 30s
Tumblr media Tumblr media
28. Name an OC who’s changed a lot from their original design/personality.
jeremy (ultimate ventriloquist) was originally a fusion of two of my other ocs, amai (mortician) and takeshi (slapstick comedian). the talent came from all those whose line bits about going to a funeral and doing ventriloquism with the corpse.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i only drew him how he looked on the left a few times before realizing i could do a lot with a shitty teenager ventriloquist who works on a kids show. i liked the idea of him having four arms enough to give him some techy robot arms on the back in his updated design. fun fact, i forgot to write down a reason for why he had them in the application for the roleplay he's currently in, so when someone asked me about it in character, i had to make something up LMAO

Yeah i sent this a week or so ago and officially the chris story has been dragged out way too long 😭 and the thing is I wouldnt even mind it if the pacing wasnt terrible. Or if there was an actual explanation as to why it was taking this long (obviously others are allowed to disagree with that I get it). And like it should be resolved next week based on what tim said and I will live and there will probably be a lot of eddie/chris in 8b assuming gavin’s contract hasnt changed its just all so… tiring. Hopefully next week will set the show on a good path for 8b so we can just move on from all of this seriously. I always felt like 8a would feel like 7b anyway (and the 8 episodes is really helping with that lol). I just cant help but feel like episode 2 being split into two episodes and and network enforced halloween ep + schedule really messed up this whole arc more than it was already messed up. Or maybe not 🤷‍♀️ but its annoying either way
i hate to be the pessimist but i don't think there's gonna be any significant movement on it next week either, with how content the show seems with chris being gone and how uncharacteristically resigned eddie seems to be to chris being gone indefinitely. they're gonna drag this out well into 8b and chris is gonna be gone for almost a year for no reason i guess. i can't even talk about it it makes me so upset (<<< guy who's been ranting in the DMs for the better part of an hour about it)

Re: lfjr’s contract— I agree I don’t foresee him staying more than 4 episodes… and no later than end of 8a AT THE MOST! I could see it being a combination of both like no cameos and limited interactions as part of his contract but I think the extremely limited interactions (like not even liking fan edits or whatever) could be because he knows he’s on borrowed time
Look, I didn't see him staying past the end of 8a anyway, that would make him Taylor and Buck doesn't need another Taylor, be already had that. I was seeing Buck cruising through the relationship, and something happening by the end of 8a that makes Buck realize the relationship isn't a good fit and letting go. Now I'm seeing an Ana style breakup, tension being added during the opening arc that just makes them realize they are incompatible. But I think that he now has a clause that limits what he can say and his team told him to just shut up completely so he won't make it worse for himself.

Finland acquires JDAM and SDB I weapon systems for its F-35 fighters
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 03/01/2024 - 13:00 in Military
The Patria and the Finnish Defense Forces signed a service agreement to develop the capabilities of Finland's F-35 program, specifically purchases of JDAM and SDB I ammunition.
Major General Jari Mikkonen, Head of the Logistics Command of the Finnish Defense Forces (FDFLOGCOM) signed the contract for the acquisition of JDAM and SDB I ammunition for the F-35 multifunctional fighters on February 29, 2024. The Finnish Minister of Defense authorized the Logistics of the Defence Forces Command to conduct the acquisition.
The object of the acquisition is the JDAM and SDB I systems with related equipment and services in the years 2024–2030. The acquisition is referred to as the Total Package Approach (TPA), which means that, in addition to the JDAM and SDB I pumps, the acquisition includes transport sets of BRU-61 ammunition, training material, manuals, spare parts, accessories, transport services and manufacturer instructions, as well as training services and supplier support. Contains spare parts and support services for manufacturers and suppliers by 2030.
The acquisition contract is in dollars and its indexed maximum price is US$ 96.1 million. Purchase payments will take place during the years 2024-2030.
The acquisition will be carried out in accordance with the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) procedure between the authorities of the USA and Finland, in which the Defense Forces Logistics Command will conclude the acquisition contract with the United States administration.
Tumblr media
The JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munition) is a modular guidance kit for 500, 1,000 or 2,000 pound bombs of the Mark 80 series. In addition to a guidance kit, a fuse or sensor is installed in the pump, depending on the intended use. A bomb equipped with JDAM can perform precision attacks on fixed or mobile targets at short range.
The SDB I (Small Diameter Bomb I) is a glider pump capable of accurately hitting medium-range targets. Thanks to the relatively small size of the pump, a fighter is able to carry a larger number of SDB I bombs at a time.
Guided bombs and glider bombs are part of the weapons acquisition package that allows the Finnish Air Force to have the ability to support other Forces in combat activities. The weapons of the F-35 fighters from Finland will be acquired in stages until the year 2035. The phased implementation of the acquisition of weapons will make it possible to optimize the composition of weapons as the Finnish F-35 program progresses.
"Some of the types of weapons to be purchased can also be used with our current fleet of F/A-18 Hornet. Therefore, when we make the transition to the F-35, we will be able to profit from the skills and experience in systems acquired so far," said the Director of the F-35 Program, Colonel (retired), Henrik Elo.

(JTA) — This past week we entered the Hebrew month of Kislev, the month here in the Northern Hemisphere when we often experience the longest, darkest nights of the year. As the light contracts each day, I experience a tightening in my gut, an anxious fluttering of the heart. Time feels compressed, as if there aren’t enough hours in a day to do everything that needs doing. When the light fades at the end of these foreshortened days, I draw the blinds and turn on the lamps, wanting to make my home into an island of warmth and light in the face of the encroaching darkness.
My trepidation at the onset of night echoes the primal fear of the dark ascribed to the first mythic humans, Adam and Eve. A talmudic tale, found in Avodah Zarah 8a, imagines the two of them becoming frantic as darkness falls at the close of the first day of their lives. They’ve disobeyed God by eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil and now they’re terror stricken. “Woe is me,” Adam wails, “that because I’ve sinned, the world is darkening around me! The world will return to chaos and emptiness; this is heaven’s death sentence upon me!”
In this midrash, Adam experiences the arrival of darkness as punishment. His words conjure up the kind of existential shudder that can overtake a person in the dark, as the familiar shapes and colors of the daytime world dissolve into the trackless night. No wonder that darkness is often a metaphor for the scariest of times, times like the present, when awash in grief, fear and anger, we bear witness to the atrocities of war, to hatred unleashed and suffering magnified, to shattered dreams and dampened hopes. “These are dark times,” we tell one another.
Perhaps it’s only natural that humans try to beat back the dark with our hearths, campfires and brilliant winter light displays. We Jews do this beginning on the 25th of Kislev, when we kindle Hanukkah candles in remembrance of the Hasmoneans’ military victory over the Seleucid Greeks and the rededication of the Jerusalem Temple. But on a more primal level, we do this to remind ourselves that even a tiny flame instantly dispels the deepest dark, offering hope, a light at the end of the tunnel.
And yet it strikes me that many of our tradition’s most transformational and transcendent moments unfold in the dark, in a dream space rich with spiritual potency. In Toldot, this week’s Torah portion, for instance, we meet Jacob, whose journey toward self-realization is bookended by two stirring night episodes. Fleeing from his wrathful brother, he has a prophetic dream in which angels ascend and descend a ladder stretching between heaven and earth while God looms over him, promising protection. Returning home some 20 years later, he engages in an all-night wrestling match with a mysterious being, perhaps his own shadow self, who ultimately blesses him as the dawn breaks, renaming him Israel, the one who strives with God and prevails.
Despite the anguish that darkness evokes, the dark times offer unique opportunities. They slow us down, inviting us to rest in the moment. Sometimes they force us to face painful truths. They challenge us to deepen our prayer life, strengthen our faith and resolve, and discover inner resources and possibilities for transformation we might not know we possess.
Years ago, I practiced walking in the woods at night without a flashlight and discovered that when I could breathe deeply and relax into the darkness, over time my eyes would adjust and I could see much more than I thought possible. Not just my eyes, but my whole body began to see in the dark in ways that I couldn’t in the light of day. I could find my way.
Adam and Eve, so the story goes, sat across from one another on that first traumatic night, fasting and weeping. When the dawn finally broke, they realized that the freshly created world was not coming to an end and that the alternation of light and dark, day and night, was simply the way of the world. Had they not felt so guilty and terrified they might have been able to look around with curiosity as the light waned, noticing how their eyes were primed to pick up many subtle shades of gray, the palette of darkness. Their vision might have gradually adjusted to the dark and, in the subtle glow of starlight, they might have been able to pick out the familiar, reassuring features of the other’s face and been calmed and comforted, even in the midst of their distress.
Could it be that in our yearning for the resurgence of the light, we fail to recognize and fully receive the gifts of darkness? That in drawing my blinds against the terrors of the night, I also shut out the vastness of the cosmos, the glimmering pinpoints of distant stars, the radiant winter moon, and the intimate, enveloping quiet of the dark?

Brazil publishes notice for US$80mn Minas Gerais highway works
Tumblr media
The Brazilian government published the notice for a contract to convert an 18km stretch of route BR-381 in Minas Gerais state into a divided highway, with investment estimated at 400mn reais (US$80mn).
"The widening of the section of lot 8A meets a long-standing demand from the population of Minas Gerais, in an area known for its high rate of accidents. The proximity to the center of [state capital] Belo Horizonte also makes the work important in relation to social integration and increased tourism: the road connects historic cities such as Ouro Preto, Mariana and Sabará," the transport ministry said in a statement.
The notice can be seen here.
