Your eyes flutter open, the spot beside you in bed is cold, blankets slightly crumpled from where he must’ve slipped out. You blink a few times, stretching with a small groan before tossing the covers off and padding out of the room in your oversized tee.

You find him a minute later, hunched slightly forward in his gaming chair, headset on, fingers quick on the keyboard. His voice is calm and focused as he talks to chat and his teammates, eyes locked on the screen. You smile softly, watching from the doorway.

He glances over—and the moment he sees you, his entire face lights up.

“Baby,” he grins, pushing his chair slightly back, arms open. “Come here.”

You shake your head, bashful. “I don’t wanna interrupt.”

His brows lift like you just said something ridiculous. “Baby, you never interrupt. Come on.”

You hesitate for only a second before walking over. The chat’s already going crazy:

“OMG WAIT HE HAS A GF???”

“THIS IS SO CUTE WTF.”

“I WANNA SEE HERRRRR.”

“W BRO.”

“DROP HER @ RN.”

You stand beside his chair, glancing at him with a nervous smile. “You sure?”

“Of course I’m sure,” he says, reaching for your hand and tugging you closer. “C’mere.”

You lean in, pressing a soft kiss to his lips and then his cheek. The chat absolutely erupts:

“SHE’S GORGEOUSSS.”

“W GIRL W GIRL.”

“THEY’RE SO CUTE I’M CRYING.”

“BRO’S WINNING IN LIFE.”

He doesn’t let go—just gently pulls you into his lap, arms wrapping around your waist like you belong there (because you do). You rest your head on his shoulder, watching his screen while his hands go back to the game.

Mostly.

Because a minute later, one hand stays firmly on your waist, fingers lazily tracing over the fabric of your shirt.

“OMG WAIT HE’S PLAYING WITH ONE HAND.”

“KING ENERGY.”

“THE DEDICATION IS REAL.”

He just smirks, glancing briefly at the chat. “Yeah… makes it more fun this way.”

You giggle softly against his neck. A yawn escapes your lips before you can stop it.

He slides his mic to the side, murmuring just for you, “You tired, baby?”

“A little,” you admit, rubbing your eyes, “but I’m hungry too.”

He smiles, squeezing your hip. “Say less.”

Then he returns to the mic. “Alright chat, I gotta go take care of wifey. Y’all be good.”

The chat’s final flurry scrolls by fast:

“AWWWWWWWW.”

“HE CALLED HER WIFEY 😭😭😭”

“W RELATIONSHIP.”

“BRB CRYING IN SINGLE.”

You tilt your head up, cheeks warm, eyes filled with love.

He glances down and winks. “Told you I’m lucky as fuck I found you.”

And you just smile—because you feel lucky too.

Les Mis Arena Spectacular Tour Review

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH - Me after watching the show. Hence, here is a very disorganised collection of my thoughts!

TLDR: everyone was amazing.

Bradley Jaden - the man that you are. Wow. I remembered hearing a lot about how amazing he is but I wasn't familiar with him at all. And wow did he exceed my expectations!! I've never really felt connected to Javert as a character - I understand him, but I never really felt what he was feeling until I saw Bradley play Javert. And from the moment he started singing I was captivated by his performance. He elevated the character and gave every line so much personality and meaning that it all felt brand new! Stars was just beautiful. I actually found myself rooting for Javert (and his death didn't feel goofy at all, which is a feat in itself). Probably my favourite of the cast - a lot of hair, a lot of spit (like, a lot...), and a lot of talent!!

Killian Donnelly - I mean, what can I say? I love Alfie and Michael but I specifically chose to see Killian's show because I have a soft spot for him (and I love an Irish man...). And of course he delivered! Not a single note out of place, and he perfectly captured the repentant, fatherly essence of Valjean. His last note in Bring Him Home was gorgeousss. And he and Bradley had great chemistry/tension together, despite the limited nature of the concert staging. They had a very wholesome hug during bows and it was nice to see them taking the moment in :) They deserve all the love!

Marius (Jac Yarrow) - Man, Jac's name is so close to Jack Sparrow that it automatically makes him cool. Jac was great as Marius! I found his performance improved as the show went on, and I think his acting particularly shined during Act 2. Beautiful voice - Empty Chairs was veryyy pretty. Mourning the fact that the boys didn't have the candles.

Eponine (Emily Bautista) - I mean her voice is just incredible and she had some really beautifully placed lines, especially during Eponine's death. It's a bit of an awkward scene to manage with concert staging but she made it seem really natural. On my own was really pretty with all the hanging lanterns as well! I think some Eponine's try really hard to make their version of the song unique/different, but I think the beauty of Emily's version is she kept it simple and effective!

Cosette (Jo Stephenson) - Jo was a lovely Cosette! I didn't extensively check the cast beforehand so I didn't even realise she was an understudy until now. Her voice was soooo angelic and those high notes were *chefs kiss*. Beautiful. And she had a very calm, graceful presence which was well-suited to the character - I would have liked to see just a little bit more of her own personality/spark added to her performance but it was still absolutely gorgeous!

Fantine (Rachelle Ann Go) - Similarly to Jo, Rachelle had a really graceful presence on stage that was perfect for the character. And of course, her voice is smoooooth as silk! Her voice during Valjean's death... whewwwww chills. I think my only criticism would be that some of her vocal choices during I Dreamed A Dream were a bit more "pop", which some people may love! I just tend to prefer the more classical sound.

Enjolras (James D. Gish) - My sister, who knows absolutely nothing about Les Mis, fell in love with James as soon as he came on stage (honey, it's a rite of passage- every Enjolras is a god in human form). Look, I won't lie - as an Enjolras fan I am very specific about the characterisations that I prefer - and James pretty much nailed it! Passionate without being too aggressive, charming without being too boyish, solemn without being too serious. And man.. that voice. Incredible. The only thing I could say is that I think he initially tried to achieve some sort of accent between American and British? And then eventually gave up and resorted to his American accent. Which is fine by me - I actually really like the mix of accents within the cast!

+Enjoltaire - If you know me then you know I am an Enjoltaire shipper and let me tell you, I was on the lookout! Again, interactions between characters was generally limited due to the staging but there were still some really sweet moments - Grantaire just generally always looking at Enjolras. Enjolras patting Grantaire on the back and Grantaire reaching out for his hand. Enjolras jumping to shield Gavroche and Grantaire upon the first gunshots. Drink with me... yeah. Connor Jones was a great Grantaire, but didn't get to see him too much due to the sections cut out of the show :(

Thenardiers (Matt Lucas and Marina Prior) - I mean, what can I say. Literal theatre legends. I think I'm so familiar with the show that the Thenardiers really need to try hard to catch me off guard enough to make me laugh, which they were able to! Good adlibbing between lines, although some were such modern references that it kinda drew me out of the show for a second - that being said, it was very much the more "relaxed" arena show vibe, and not a theatre show, so I can understand those choices. LOVED Matt's Dog Eats Dog. Edit: Love Marina Prior. Fuck Matt Lucas.

My only criticisms: Mainly to do with staging and cut songs/scenes, which I'm not too upset about since I understand the concert setup is quite limited. The overhead lights partially blocked one of the screens, so it was difficult to see during certain scenes but overall not a massive issue. The only thing that really drew me out of the show was the cutting of the Second Attack/Gavroche's death - it's one of my favourite scenes in the show, including the transition from his death to the Final Battle. I just love the buildup in tension and then the emotional release, it feels like such a turning point in the show that makes the rest of Act 2 so sombre. But Killian finished singing Bring Him Home and I'm still emotional and suddenly everyone is dead - wait, what? For a second I thought James was singing the wrong verse accidentally until everyone started getting shot. This is probably not an issue for anyone else, but I was a little disappointed not to see one of my favourite moments. This is why I NEED a fully staged version to come to my city, like, now.

Overall, I feel so thankful to have finally seen this show live for the first time, even if it wasn't in its full-fledged form. It was a magical experience to hear these songs and see this story that means so much to me come to life!!! A dream come true.

Now I have to study for exams. Shit.

Les Misérables fic recommendations (canon era edition)

I’ve made a Les mis fic rec post before but I cannot find it for the life of me. Anyway I love canon era, here are some of my fav fics for a good variety of ships (including platonic!)

Not Even Miracles by everyonewasabird (@everyonewasabird)

Summary:

Post-barricade survival fic about found family. Combeferre searches for Enjolras, Cosette tries to save her father, Enjolras atones, and Courfeyrac struggles to come to terms with all of it.

Not an everybody lives AU, but I promise there's a happy ending for everyone who made it out.

Notes: PERFECT STUNNING GORGEOUSSS!! Do not let it being uncompleted put you off because what is there is some of the best fic I’ve ever read. Perfect if you’re like me and enjoy fics that focus primarily on platonic relationships. Possibly my favourite Cosette and Combeferre characterisation. Just read it

Jean Valjean, exhausted from the barricades and the sewer, somehow finds the strength to drag Javert out of the Seine. He has no strength left for anything else. He collapses from exhaustion on the quai near the Pont Au Change as the situation rapidly devolves into tragicomedy.

Notes: Yes another incomplete fic but I promise it’s so worth it. The author manages to imitate Hugo’s style really well as well as balancing humour with the characters’ rapidly deteriorating mental state. Not very shippy so far so I’d recommend it even to my non- Valverters. Also another fic with great Cosette characterisation which is very important to me.

No Weapon But Hate by Carmarthen

Summary:

Jean Valjean realizes that there is yet more that Toulon could take from him.

Notes: Read the warnings on this one because it is pretty heavy but a really interesting exploration of Jean Valjean’s time in Toulon. A lot of adaptations fail in showing this part of the story “on screen” but I loved how this author did it, you really get into JVJ’s head. Also really well researched, I love a fic with a reference list at the end.

Nature in Defiance of Nomenclature by BenevolentErrancy

Summary:

Asexual-homoromanticism can be a complex enough matter when a name exists for it. When faced with such inclinations and a 19th century approach to sexuality matters become more obscure

Notes: A beautiful friendship centred fic. I love reading about discussions of queerness in a pre “homosexuality” (the term not the concept) world, it’s always so fascinating to me. This fic is part of a wider series that I haven’t read yet but looks good.

Summary:

The night after the Gorbeau robbery, Eponine wanders the streets of Paris.

Notes: A very very depressing Éponine character study that I absolutely adored. I loved how the writing style followed a stream of conscious as Éponine spends the night out in the cold, her thoughts getting less and less coherent. Montparnasse and Marius are discussed but it’s mostly just Éponine.

Sensible Depravity by thatbug

Summary:

Grantaire is delighted to discover that Combeferre is in a relationship with a man.

Notes: Severely underrated fic. Really funny and full of canon-typical Grantaire awfulness (like seriously, he’s a real dick in this one) but also some fun exploration of 19th century queer identity.

On Liberty and Love by labingi

Ship/s: Enjolras/Jean Prouvaire

Summary:

Jehan and Enjolras discuss love and liberty (and gay rights--no, this is not a modern AU).

Notes: I love a good rarepair and this is a very good rarepair. Takes place in that awkward period after the 1830 revolution and of course has some interesting exploration of queer identity in the 19th century, and it blurs the lines between romantic and platonic relationships which is always fun.

Summary:

Eponine throws a note at an old man. She doesn't anticipate the consequences.

Notes: Just a really delightful fix it fic with amazing characterisation of both the main characters. I loved the parallels between Éponine and JVJ and how they were able to come together to give each a fresh start.

Some Friendlier Sky by AMarguerite

Ships: Courfeyrac/Cosette, Joly/Musichetta, Cosette & Jean Valjean (not tagged but they feature heavily)

Summary:

Courfeyrac falls through the roof of no. 7 Rue de l'Homme Armé, taking down not only the ceiling, but the carefully built walls Valjean has constructed around himself and Cosette. Wacky hijinks ensue.

Notes: This really sold me on Courfsette as a ship and now I’m devastated they don’t really have any more fics. Besides our two leads, Valjean gets explored really well in this fic. I also really enjoyed Courfeyrac’s family in this (him being one of many siblings just makes sense to me) as well as his friendship with Combeferre and Enjolras. The balance of humour with some genuinely serious moments is done to perfection and the author clearly knows their 19th century French history. Also for all my Marius lovers, he gets a relatively happy ending, don’t worry! Genuinely cannot recommend enough.

Summary:

Éponine, dressed as a boy, is Montparnasse's reluctant accomplice for a night of criminal business. When their attempted robbery goes wrong, Montparnasse flees and leaves Éponine in the hands of their would-be victim. But the old man is merciful, as it turns out: he offers to help her, to give her a home and send her to school. Éponine knows he would surely rescind the offer if he found out her real identity: not only a girl, but a Thénardier. So when she accepts, she knows what it will cost her: she is no longer Éponine, but Émile, a boy. After settling in at the house on Rue Plumet, though, Éponine finds herself increasingly drawn to her rescuer's daughter, Cosette, who knows her only as a young man...

Notes: Unlike the previous rec, this fic does not have a happy ending for Marius but it does have genderbending lesbians which is way better. Every new update of this fic has taken me by surprise in a good way. I am of course loving Éponine exploring gender and sexuality in the 19th century and the complex layers of her relationship with Cosette. Really can’t wait to read more!

Hollow works as the Royal Doctor, but before that she was a Royal Guardsman, and I could see her worrying about Trickster a lot when Gaster enrolls him to become a guard(if I got that right?) mostly because she doesn't want him toget seriously hurt or worse, but then again what dangers are you gonna find in the Underground right?
