Inuyasha fans! I’m rewatching the series for like the 100th time. A debate has gone on for years that do you think Sesshomaru loves Rin or just cares about her. Is it like a Sango/ Inuyasha relationship where Inuyasha protects Sango but they are just friends. Or is it like a Miroku/ Koharu relationship where Miroku asked her to bear his children when she was 11 but he would come back for her when she was a woman to do so.

I personally think it’s the first one. I believe that he does care for her deeply and probably loves her. Just not as a love interest. I think he would still want a full blooded demon son to take on his legacy. Miroku is just Miroku so it’s hard with that. But I do know older men would see a young girl grow up and change their minds about them. But I feel like a demon who’s 200 years old may not see an eight year old human girl the same way. And they always end up leaving because the humans are getting old and dying and the demons still look the same. Like with Jinenji. They never said his dad died but he wasn’t around with the family anymore. And his mother was a young maiden not an eight year old.

Yeah I know the second part is just a lot of thoughts coming at once. But I’d like to know what others thing.

I found this interview from the maker of Inuyasha. This is what she said about Sesshomaru and Rin. I still think it’s just care taker relationship with high fondness.

I: Rin has been rescued by Sesshomaru, why is it set like this?

高桥:两人的关系基础是"救助"与"被救助",杀生丸经历了感到寂寞,恐惧,被别人关心,带给别人快乐等和以往完全相反的事,和铃的相遇是杀生丸生命中一个小小的插曲,让他有了不一样的想法.
