His expression was unreadable, but there was something in the way he looked at you — something deep that made your heart race.
The gala continued long into the evening, and as the night wore on, you found yourself mingling with investors, team members, and other industry leaders. But every time you passed through the crowd, your gaze inevitably flickered to Hongjoong. He wasn’t far, but he was always keeping his distance. Observing.
Finally, as the clock struck midnight, and the energy in the room started to shift, you spotted him again, this time standing near a secluded balcony, looking out over the city. The cool night air brushed against my skin, and without even thinking, you found yourself walking toward him.
When he saw you approaching, he didn’t smile. He didn’t even move. He simply waited.
“Having a quiet moment?” you asked, your voice a little more biting than you’d intended.
He turned toward you, eyes locking onto yours with that unnerving intensity. “Just getting some air. The spotlight’s never been my thing.”
You glanced around at the crowd below, feeling the weight of the attention. “You and me both,” you muttered, leaning against the balcony railing beside him.
For a moment, neither of you spoke, the city’s hum below you filling the silence. You could feel the tension, thick and palpable. But tonight, there was something different in the air. It wasn’t the usual rivalry. There was an understanding—an unspoken agreement that the past few weeks had altered something fundamental between you. And yet, you still wasn’t sure what it was.
“Do you think we’re ever going to be able to fix this mess?” you asked, not looking at him, your voice softening despite yourself .
“We will,” he said, his tone surprisingly calm. “We always do.”
You finally turned to look at him. His jaw was tight, his eyes dark with determination, but there was something else there. It wasn’t just business anymore. It wasn’t just the endless string of meetings and calls. There was an earnestness in his gaze, like he wasn’t just trying to make things work for the sake of the companies anymore.
It was personal.
“I think… I think we’ve already started something. Whether we like it or not.” he said quietly.
You weren’t sure what he meant by that, but the weight of his words hung in the air. For a moment, you weresilent, contemplating the implications of what he was saying.
“Hongjoong…” you started, but you weren’t sure how to continue. What were you supposed to say? That you couldn’t stop thinking about him? That you hated how much you wanted this to work?
Before you could find the words, he stepped closer.
His presence enveloped you, his warmth undeniable as he stood inches away, the faint scent of his cologne almost intoxicating. His eyes softened just a fraction. And for the first time in a long time, you felt the breath leave your lungs, the air thick with something other than competition.
“Maybe it’s time we stopped pretending we’re just business partners,” he murmured, his voice low, intimate.
And that was it. The walls I had spent so long building up shattered in that instant, crumbling beneath the weight of his gaze. All the tension, all the anger, all the denial—it all melted away.
Without thinking, you reached for him, your hand brushing against his arm. It wasn’t a grand confession. It wasn’t a dramatic moment. But it felt like the world had narrowed down to just the two of you standing on that balcony, with the city lights twinkling below you.
“I’m scared,” you whispered.
He reached up, his hand gently cupping your cheek, his thumb grazing your skin with the kind of tenderness you hadn’t expected from him. “I know. Me too.”
And then, without another word, he leaned in.
The kiss was slow, almost hesitant at first. But it didn’t take long before the floodgates opened, and the kiss deepened, taking you both by surprise. The emotions you had buried for so long rushed to the surface—frustration, fear, and the undeniable pull between you two.
For the first time in weeks, you weren’t worried about the next crisis. You weren’t thinking about Cortex or NovaTech or any of the lies you had told yourself. You were just here, in this moment, with him.
When you finally pulled away, breathless, Hongjoong’s smile was softer than you had ever seen it. “I think we might have just started something even bigger than what we planned.”
You couldn’t help but smile back, feeling a strange sense of peace wash over you.
“Maybe,” you said, my voice barely above a whisper. “But I think we can handle it.”
And for once in your whole entire career, you were glad that you broke all three rules.

As far as the AU goes, what's the basic concept of it with revealing any spoilers?
So I don’t have a full plot or anything but I can give some background info!
Before the disassembly drones were sent to Copper 9, Cyn had decided to erase their memories and personalities, at least attempt to. Turns out completely erasing the personalities of Tessa’s personal drones wasn’t as easy as just deleting them. Cyn infected them with a virus that would slowly eat away at the complicated code of their personality AI with a little bit of psychological torment to hurry the process along (but mostly for fun giggle)
They were reverted to a primitive state, basically like untrained nueral networks that was only given a basic drive to hunt and kill to survive. It wasn’t permanent though, their AIs were still able to grow and relearn what was lost. after a few years, the disassemblers started to regain their sentience.
J was the first to regain her faculties, while N and V were still feral. They're at the phase where they can understand language but just aren’t able to speak yet and are still driven by their hunting instincts. To cope with the whole sudden sentience after years of mindlessly killing and eating worker drones, and her lost traumatic memories slowly coming back. She tries to bring more structure to this killing, remembering Tessa’s business lessons and taking inspiration to create a new management (ha ha)
only problem is she pretty much has to train dogs (or a dog and a cat) to run a business.
She doesn’t take orders from Cyn and is basically just making the best of her situation with her subordinates.
There’s a whole other thing going on with the workers, Nori being alive, Kahn dying before he could become the Doorman. I’ll have more info on Uzi, Nori and the others when I design them, cuz explaining them would kinda spoil the designs

Alhaitham in an Art Nouveau inspired style Here's a thread I wrote about this concept on Twitter, below the cut will be a copy of the text, sorry if it takes a weird format on tumblr since it was initially written as a twt thread
This might not make a lot of sense to some of you but before i talk about Alhaitham and Art Nouveau i'd like to talk about Kaveh and Romanticism The connection between Kaveh and Romanticism can be more easily done, specially with characters such as Faruzan calling him a romantic

The Romantic movement, as the name suggest, is very emotionally driven. Its a movement that values individualism ane subjectvism, it's objective is on evoking an emotional response, most comonly being feelings of sympathy, awe, fear, dread and wonder in relation to the world
Basically the artistic view of the Romantic is to represent the world while trying to say "we are hopeless in the grand scheme of things, little can we do to change the world yet the world is always changing us"
In Romantic pieces the man is always small compared to the setting they find themselves in, see the painting Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog by Caspar David Friedrich as an example, the human figure is central but relativelly insignificant to the world

Another thing about Romanticism is the importance of beauty, it's through it that the Romantic seeks to get in touch with their emotions and ituition and its through these lenses that they see the world. The Kaveh comparison should be easy to make with these descriptions
Kaveh's idle chat "The ability to ability to appreciat beauty is an important virtue" just cements to me the idea that his romanticism is closely connected to the artistic movement. He does have an argument agaisnt this connection but I'll bring it up later on the thread
Now that I used the opportunity to talk about my favorite character in a thread that wasn't supposed to be about him let's go back to Alhaitham and how to connect him to the Art Nouveau movement
But seriously, I brought up Kaveh's more obvious connection to Romanticism because the Nouveau movement was created as a direct mirrored response to the Romantic movement, and we all know how we feel about mirrored themes between these two characters
Art Nouveau is about rationality and logic, the movement was used more comonly on mass produced interior design pieces or architectural buildings, it's a movement much more focused on functionality than on art appreciation
They also had a big focus on the natural world but in a very different way, while Romantics saw nature as a power they couldnt contend with, artists from the Nouveau used the natural as an universal symbolical theme for broad mass appeal
Flowers, leaves, branches, complexes and organic shapes are the basis of this style, the logical side of it coming from the mathematics needed to create these shapes and themes in ways that were appealing and also structurally sound
To appreciate the Art Nouveau style is to understand it is a calculated artistic movement (another reason to be salty about an AI generated image trying to emulate it) In short, this style is less about the art and more about the rationality in the mathematics to make it
Another note I'd like to point out is that I love how both Alhaitham and Kaveh have dendro visions while both movements are so nature centric in different ways, Romanticism seeing it as a subjective power and Art Nouveau seeing it as recognizeable symbols
I mentioned an argument against the Kaveh comparison before: the one thing that bothers me about Romanticism is how negative it is in relation to humanity's position in the world and how that related back to Kaveh
In the Parade of Providence it was explicitely showed how much Kaveh dislikes the idea of people seeing themselves as helpless in relation to the problems of the world
People may suffer but there is something he can do to help them and he will do it
It doesn't feel right for me to say that Kaveh fits the Romantic themes because of his suffering, in a similar sense it also doesn't feel right to me to say Alhaitham fits Art Nouveau because of his rational behaviour while he as a character is a lot more complex than that
This thread was done all in fun and love for an artistic discussion, it's not a perfect argument to connect these characters and movements
+ I haven't studied art history in a year, if anyone knows more about these movements please tell me I love learning new things

Hi, sorry I took fuckin uhhh forever with this, I really was planning out a more extensive response but got swamped by everything else and realized I'll either have to suggest something in a somewhat disorganized and hasty manner or nothing at all. Hope you don't mind.
Anyway, ditch Duolingo as your primary language-learning method. It's never been particularly good, and the latest implementation of AI made it marginally worse. If you really want to learn a language and not just pick up some phrases here and there, you're going to need something more substantial.
There's no shortage of textbooks online, most of them - free. I found this one by Fourman and this one by Brown in like ten minutes and both seem alright. I remember reading Fourman a while ago, he pulls some stuff out of his ass - as all textbook authors do - but it's an okay self-teaching book overall.
Secondly, I remember you mentioning being scared of talking to native speakers, and - well, you'll have to. There's no way to get a well-rounded learning experience otherwise. Luckily, I gotcha in this department too.
Check out italki if you're planning to spend money on a teacher. Some come fairly cheap but know their stuff well. Not much for free there though.
My favorite free language site is probably conversation exchange. The cool thing about it is that people really do hang out there mostly for language exchange purposes, so nobody will mind it if you suck. We all suck. Welcome to the club.
You can try interpals too but that one's a bit more... Socially driven.
Okay, what else? I recomment this dictionary for android, not sure if there's an equivalent for ios. I also recommend reverso for in-context translation.
Learning a language is a social hobby by design, since language itself is a social tool. Look up forums, learning groups, and mutual help discord servers to learn together with others. It genuinely does help a ton.
