waitttt wait hagn on. re: last thing i reblogged saying that young femal protagonists will go throughh life altering trauma & people complainabout them acting like teenage girls about it SOME PARTICULAR EDA AUTHORS. THINK OF SAM JONES LIKE THAT. 'what if this GIRL who thinks she has all her morals in the right place is confronted with ACTUAL SITUATIONS and GETS MAD ABOUT IT' like no. what if a girl who didnt know what she was sighing up for and was so sure of her self at seventeen, as so many seventeen year olds are, and was determined to do good, was thrown wildly out of her depth and had to navigate life threatening and abjectly miserable circumstances with next to zero actual guidance from the man who was supposed to be looking after her, complictaed further by the incredibly complex nature of their dynamic? what if she had to deal with actual life & death when all her previous experience had been going to protests & painting over signs? what if she had to examine her biases in real time? what if she was alone & stranded with no hope of getting back for years and years and years & the first thing she does is see if there is someone she can make herself helpful?

like there are some authors and even terrance dicks writing her goddamn character outline who obviously think she's annoying & a prat & playing at poverty by *checks notes* not wanting to go to a private school and stuck about about being politically correct & have obvioulsy never tried speaking to a teenager with any level of sincerity because i knwo Exactly why sam is doing all that and how she is thinking about herself & her place in the world a & STILLL some authors just posit her as 'annoying and woke' because they dont think 17 year old girls have genuine feelings or smthn
