Chapter 7: Such A Fool
After Dave parked, he took a deep breath and got out of his car. It was night and the parking lot was empty, which surprised him.
“...Strange. I thought one of those things would be here,” he smiled and said to himself.
“That’s good then! I guess I won’t be needing this!” and looks at the gun in his hand. The same gun his nephew once had.  He thought he needed to use it but it seems like he was safe. He tossed the gun back into the car before locking the car door and walking over to the entrance of the church. He knocked a few times, calling out to his friend.
“O’Brien! O’Brien, it’s me, Dave! I’m here for that offer!” He called out. But there was no answer. “Okay…weird.” Dave thought until knocking again. “O’Brien!!” He yelled, but again, there was no answer. He fiddled with the door and noticed that it was unlocked as if it were staged. But nothing crossed his mind when he went inside.
The place was dark and cold, sending a shiver down Dave’s spine. He turned on his flashlight and examined the place. The stained windows of the altar were smashed, glass everywhere, paintings torn apart and scattered all across the floor. And the statue of that…Angel Gabriel..
There was blood smeared all over it.
Dave stared at the mess for a moment before hearing a loud scream in the other room.
That scream sounded just like O’Brien’s.
Dave rushed over to where the noise was coming from and saw O’Brien there, grabbed by the neck and lifted up in the air by something. Something that looked like an angel.
The same angel, just like that statue.
“O-O’Brien!?” Dave called out.
O’Brien looked over at him and spoke, his voice barely above a whisper.
“D-Dave…please…”
“...RUN…”
Before Dave could say anything, O’Brien’s neck was snapped in two, his body going limp like a ragdoll. Dave stared at his body in horror, tears streaming down his face.
“...O’Brien..?”
The angel slowly turned over to Dave with a sinister grin and spoke.
“DAVID~”
And before Dave knew it, he ran. Thoughts were racing through his head, trying to figure out what had just happened. He could hear that thing’s footsteps behind him and hid behind a pillar of the church. He could hear its voice, soothing but sickening.
“DAVID~ WHERE ARE YOUUU?~”
He tried his best to control his breathing so that he wouldn’t be heard. He was shaking hard, his heart beating so fast that it was hard for him to keep track. Just then, his head was filled with memories.
“So, how have you been holding up, Dave?” O’Brien said as they both hung out in the alleyway.
“Eh, I don’t know…this infection’s been fucking with me, y’know? I still can’t believe it got Mark.”
O’Brien sighed, understanding his friend’s grief. “Yeah…that’s rough, man, I..” He looked at the ground, looking for the right words to comfort him.
“No, no, it’s okay... Well, it’s sad to know the poor boy must be in so much pain, but... yeah, I’ll try to find a way around it sooner or later...” He let out a bittersweet chuckle, but O’Brien knew he was hurting. But it seems that Dave knew how concerned he was he then changed the subject.
“U-Uh..! H-Hey, um, about that little offer of yours...the church thing?”
“Oh! Yeah, what about it?”
“Well, I’ve been thinking about it... and I think I would want to take you up on your offer. MandelaTech IS pretty much going out of business, so..”
O’Brien looked at him and smiled. “Oh, great! Does Evelin know?” “Yeah, she does. I…may have fired her.” Said Dave. “I didn’t want to, but….yeah.”
“I understand.” O’Brien sighed. “When do you want to do it?”
Dave snapped out of it once he felt a presence behind him. He slowly turned around and saw the angel standing there
It found him.
“It’s sad how I had to end your little friend there~”  It said. “But that’s okay…you’ll join him very soon.”
“....Who are you..?” Dave said in a quivering voice, looking up at the angel in horror.
“ME~?”  The Angel chuckled. “Just call me The Pestilence…”
The pestilence spread out its wings, a gust of wind hitting Dave’s face. “I think I’ll let my little ones deal with you~” Just then, many infected ones appeared, surrounding Dave. God, they looked terrible. They’re bones stuck out, blood, vomit, and that black substance all over them.
And Dave could’ve sworn he saw one that looked too familiar…
“They are all pretty hungry, you see…How about you help them out~?”
Right as the pestilence said that, the infected ones started to chase Dave. Dave ran as fast as he could, hearing the pestilence laughter echo through the halls. But one was able to tackle him to the ground, and the others joined. They started to attack him, clawing and biting him. Just then, a massive swipe from one ripped his eye out, causing him to scream in pain. He struggled against the wrath until he felt a piece of glass, stabbing the one who pinned him down. Right as it let go, Dave got up and tried to get away from them. He saw the church doors, and with all his might, he burst them open and fled.
The Pestilence appeared by the doors, and as the infected tried to get to him, it stopped them.
“Wait a moment, my children. I have something in mind…”  It said, chuckling.
Meanwhile with Dave, he hobbled over to his car, trying to get away, but as he reached it, he realized that his car was broken down.
Maybe The Pestilence knew that he would escape.
“No…no no no…!” He whispered, on the verge of a panic attack. He collapsed there and started to cry, overwhelmed and terrified at the fact that he would become one of them. He cried for help, but knowing that most of the townsfolk in Mandela migrated to Werksha, there wasn’t a possibility that anyone would save him.
“Please, somebody help..! I-I don’t wanna be one!”
“Somebody- Please!”
“I don’t wanna..”
“Help me..”
“Please..”

Chapter 5: I Have No Mouth But I Must Eat.
*RING RING*
*RING RING*
“Pick up! Pick up, Mark!!” Cesar hissed to himself.
*CLICK!*
“Hello?”
“MARK! THANK GOD, I HOPE IT’S NOT TOO LATE!” Cesar said, relieved.
“Woah, Woah, calm down! What’s wrong? Is everything alright-”
“JUST LISTEN! T-THERE'S SOMETHING THAT MIGHT BE COMING FOR YOU AND IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE IT’S HERE!!” Mark was starting to get worried due to Cesar’s panicked breathing.
“Calm down, Cesar! Please! I don’t know what you’re talking about…just calm down and take some breaths, okay?” He said. Cesar started to take a few breaths and slowly calm down. “Okay…Okay…I’m sorry…let me try again.” Cesar said, still scared, but less panicked than he originally was.
“There's something that attacked me earlier...it attacked mom too...it looks exactly like me and I just want to let you know if-”
*KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK.*
“Wh- Hold on, Cesar. Someone’s at the door.” Mark said as he walked across the room.
“Wait, Wait, NO!!” Cesar shouted. He suddenly heard Mark screaming.
“Mark, NO!! Don’t worry, I’m coming over there right now!”
He ended the call, left the phone booth, and ran over to Mark’s house.
—————————————–—–————-——––———–
Meanwhile with Mark, he was wrestling against the Parasite that attacked Cesar and his mother. “Hey, no, stop!! GET AWAY, YOU CRAZY BITCH!!” Mark pulled out his gun and shot the Parasite multiple times. The Parasite screamed and threw Mark across the room, knocking him out cold before running away and hiding somewhere. Mark woke up a few minutes later and limped to the bathroom. He looked in the mirror, seeing the scratches the Parasite inflicted before splashing water on his face and went into the cabinet to pull out a pocket knife “ugh…let’s get this over with…” He started to cut the infected areas off, getting rid of the infected layers of skin. After it was over, he bandaged himself up and walked out of the room. Little did he know that he missed one on his neck. He then heard Cesar bang on his door.
“MARK!? MARK, ARE YOU THERE!?!” Cesar said, pacing back and forth. Mark then creaked open the door just in case it was another parasite, but it was just Cesar. “Oh..h-hey, buddy.” Mark said, still shaken up from the attack. “¡AY DIOS MíO!” Without hesitation, Cesar embraced him into a hug, sobbing loudly. “I T-THOUGHT YOU WERE GONNA D-DIE!!” He said, tears falling down his face. “Hey, hey…it’s okay..it’s gone..i’m alright.” Mark said, reassuring him. After a while of talking and reassurance Cesar was getting ready to leave. “Please…call me if anything happens.” Cesar told Mark.
“Yeah, don’t worry…I will.”
Cesar drove back home and went inside. Seeing his mother’s corpse on the cold kitchen floor made Cesar burst into tears. He buried her body in the backyard, struggling to even look at her and laid down on his bed, staring at the ceiling before falling fast asleep. He hoped Mark would call him in case anything bad happens but little did he know that the telephone was destroyed by the parasite in the process of attacking his mother. As for Mark, He went up to his room to fall asleep as well, making sure that his door was locked, as always. An hour later, the Parasite unfortunately came back, the injuries from the bullets gone. And this time, it knew Mark was still infected and wanted to hear him cry in agony as the infection took over.
—————————————–—–————-——––———–
After a few hours, Mark woke up to feeling very hungry and nauseous. He didn’t really think much of it until he noticed part of his skin having patches of black on his skin. “Wh- Wha..?” He muttered to himself before realizing the situation. “...WHAT?! B-But how?! I thought I got rid of everything! How is this possible?!” He looked over to his phone and rushed over to it. “...Right! Cesar can help!” But as he dialed Cesar’s number….
‘IF YOU LIKE TO MAKE A CALL, PLEASE HANG UP AND TRY AGAIN. IF YOU NEED HELP, HANG UP AND THEN DIAL YOUR OPERATOR.’  He was shocked but didn't give up. As he dialed the number again he got the same response.
‘IF YOU LIKE TO MAKE A CALL, PLEASE HANG UP AND TRY AGAIN. IF YOU NEED HELP, HANG UP AND THEN DIAL YOUR OPERATOR.’
Right when he was about to try again, the parasite bangs on the door. “MARK~ WHY SO SCARED?~ LET ME IN~” The Parasite tells him in a scary but soothing voice. “W-What?! I thought you were gone!!”
“DID YOU REALLY THINK I LEFT FOR GOOD?~ I RAN ONLY TO HEAL. YOU KNEW I WOULD COME BACK~” The Parasite laughed from behind the door.
“GET COMFY SUFFERING IN THERE ‘CUZ I’M NOT LEAVING UNTIL YOU ARE ONE OF US!~”
—––———————————————————————
DAY TWO/THE NEXT DAY:
Mark’s hunger hasn’t changed a bit. Instead it got worse. There were times where he would keep dialing Cesar’s and MCDP’s number and there were times where he would cry and sleep to ignore his hunger. There were also voices in his brain, telling him to eat or join them. When he woke up, he noticed that parts of his mouth were fused together. “WHAT THE FUCK!?”
The Parasite laughed. “OH?~ NOTICING A CHANGE?~ WHAT IS IT?~ I’M VERY CURIOUS TO KNOW.” Mark got annoyed and scoffed “PAH! Why should I tell you? You’re the reason why I'm in this situation..I’m hungry and I don't know what to do.”
“SHOULD’VE THOUGHT OF THAT BEFORE OPENING THE DOOOOOR~” The Parasite said in a mocking tone. Before Mark could say anything else, He suddenly felt extremely nauseous and collapsed to the ground
“...W…What the f-f-f-f…..” He started throwing up violently all over the floor, a strange black and gooey substance oozing everywhere. “Cough, cough. WHAT THE- FUCK, WHY DOES IT HURT SO BADLY?!” The Parasite spoke again.
“OH, MARK~ THAT’S YOUR BODY TRYING TO FORCE THE CONTENTS AND STOMACH ACID OUT! WHEN SOMEONE’S INFECTED, THEIR BODIES CAN’T HANDLE SUCH DISEASES AND IT FORCES ANYTHING GOOD IN THE HUMAN BODY SO IT CAN GIVE IT’S HOST AN UPGRADE! EVEN WHEN YOU’RE INFECTED, YOU CAN’T DIE OF HUNGER! BUT I’M SURE YOU NEW THAT~” Mark stared at the door and looked away “Oh yay, a new upgrade, yippee.” He said sarcastically. “Damn, that hurt.”
After a while, Mark fell asleep. He then saw..someone in his dreams. An Angel and a man.
“Mark…hello there…are you having a hard time…it’s okay, everyone goes through that. Why aren’t you giving into the voices? They’re good for you….they help you. Join us.” Mark woke up and rubbed his head.
“...Wha…?”
——————————————————————————
DAY THREE:
Mark was in his bed, feeling under stimulated and weak. He didn’t want to be this thing but he knew it was far too late. More parts of his mouth were fused together as Mark stared at the ceiling. “...Why…” Mark muttered. “AWWWW~ WHAT’S THE MATTER, MARK? IN PAIN~? IT’S OKAY TO FEEL LIKE YOUR DYING, WE ONLY LIVE ONCE.”
The Parasite said. “SHUT THE FUCK UP!!” Mark snapped at it. The Parasite gasped. “OH GOODNESS ME, SOMEONE’S FEISTY! WHAT, ARE YOU GONNA CRY TO YOUR MOMMY?~ OH WAIT…YOU CAN’T! BECAUSE YOU TRAPPED!!”
“I’LL FIND A WAY OUT!! YOU’LL SEE!” “YOU HAVE A WINDOW Y’KNOW. IF YOU’RE SOOO FIXATED ON ESCAPING AND GOING TO FIND HELP, WHY CAN’T YOU JUST…JUMP OUT?”
Mark froze. The Parasite was right. We could just jump out the window. But there was just one problem…his bedroom window was very high from the ground and…
He’s afraid of heights.
“...”
“YOU GOT VERY QUIET…ARE YOU…AFRAID?!~”
“...Well-”
The Parasite burst into laughter
“YOU’RE 17!! THAT’S SO FUCKING FUNNY!”
“YOU SHUT IT!!” Mark said on the verge of tears.
“Just…shut it.”
He goes to bed that night and the angel comes back
“Mark…That parasite won’t leave you alone until you join us. It’s really not that hard…join us…it’s going to be okay.”
Mark tried to sleep, but it’s voice was too loud. He woke up and saw no one there.
“What’s happening to me…?”
—————————————————————–————
DAY FOUR:
Mark’s hunger started to be very painful and started to form a mouth on his neck. The only thing he could try to eat was the spiders and mice that crawl around. He was curled up into a ball sobbing his eyes out as his stomach growled loudly.
“I’m starving…I keep hearing voices in my head…why is this *sniff* happening to me…?”
“VOICES YOU SAY?~ THAT’S JUST OUR LORD DOING HIS WORK.”
“...Wait…can- can God help? He can help me right?! RIGHT!?”
“Oh, Mark~” The Parasite said sarcastically. “Not the God YOU think. OUR one true savior, The Pestilence. He’s the one who created us Parasites. He likes to visit the infected ones in their last moments! He might visit YOU~”
“...The…Pestilence? That sounds like the character from the book me and my classmates read on hallo- AGH!” Mark paused, his stomach growling again and his chest feeling like it was on fire. “Ugh….” Mark started to tear up, not knowing what to do. He never wanted this. Ever.
At night when he went to bed, voices and hallucinations came back. The Angel spread his wings and spoke to him.
“Mark, my lamb…it’s going to be okay…YOU will be okay. Join us, Mark. Don’t worry. Join us and you will be one of us. Unstoppable. Perfect.”
Mark jolted awake and looked around. It was gone. Again.
——————————————————————————
DAY TEN/THE FINAL DAY:
Mark couldn’t take it anymore. The overwhelming hunger, the constant screaming for help, and The Parasite that lurks outside his door was too much for him. But he didn’t really hear it today. Not at all. He went up and opened the door a little to see if it was gone but before he knew it, The Parasite burst through the door, laughing hysterically.
“MY, MY! YOU LOOK MUCH WEAKER THAN I THOUGHT YOU WOULD BE!~ WHAT WONDERFUL NEWS!~” The Parasite spoke. Mark backed up to his window and looked at it for a split second. He didn’t want to do it. He didn’t want to jump out. But he had to, now that it’s here.
“Y-You..f-f-f-fucking BASTARD!!” He crashed through the window falling to the ground. He couldn’t believe he just did that. It hurt. A lot actually. But now that he was free he had to get help. He rushed into the woods, fearing that he would be spotted. As he was running, he spotted a group of campers nearby. His stomach growled as the voices came back. “EAT, MARK. DO IT NOW.” Mark was very mesmerized by them until he heard one of them say they were going to get firewood. “THIS IS YOUR CHANCE, MARK.” The voices said. Mark followed the person, them not knowing the danger they were in. As the camper got some firewood, they felt someone’s presence behind them. They turned around only to get tackled to the ground.
“W-Who the fuck are YOU!?”
“...I’m…hu…hungry.” Mark said in a raspy voice. Before the camper new it, mark opened the mouth on his neck and sank his teeth into the camper’s skin
“HEY, W-WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! STOP IT!!”
But Mark didn’t budge. Blood and guts were everywhere as Mark consumed the poor camper. After he was finished, Mark looked at the corpse in horror and…satisfaction. He then heard chuckling behind him. He turned around and saw an angel with black wings and a man in a black hoodie, the same people from his hallucinations.
“Look at this! You really did a number on him, boy!” The Man said, smiling.
Mark was shaking like crazy. He was staring at the angel until he realized something.
“W…Are you…the….pestilence?” Mark said, looking at the angel, shaking.
“Oh Mark, why are you so scared…? There’s nothing wrong, in fact…we’re proud of you.” The angel said.
“...P…Proud…? Really? You’re happy? Mark said.
“Yeah! Why wouldn’t we be?” Said the man.
Mark fell silent as he looked back at the mangled corpse behind him. Before Mark knew it, The both hugged him. As the angel and man embraced Mark, The angel spoke to him in a calm and soothing voice. "Oh Mark....you did so well. That human couldn't stand a chance against you. You will be okay now. Join us, my lamb. Listen to the voices and give into your new life..." Mark stared at the ground, his pupil slowly becoming vertical as he hugged them back and finally gave in....
He shall accept his new life...

Chapter Six: The Man’s Mistake
“10-78, requesting backup!!” Thatcher said through the walkie-talkie, trying to get any available units to help him and Ruth. He tried again.
“10-78, requesting backup!!”
But no one answered and the growing anxiety had began to weigh on him. He then started to hear something…music. As he went further into the hallway where the music was, that’s when Thatcher’s nightmare began. At the end of the hallway, Thatcher could see a parasite with a gunshot on its face. He stopped dead in his tracks, just staring at it as it started to repeat mimickery of multiple people and he swore he heard Ruth’s voice coming from the parasite. Thatcher snapped out of his thoughts and pointed his gun at it.
“STOP OR I’LL SHOOT!!”
Just then, the parasite bolted towards Thatcher, making him more panicked.
“I SAID STAY DOWN-”
The tackled him to to ground, towering over him as it leaned back and sank its teeth into Thatcher’s arm. Thatcher screamed struggling against the parasite, blood dripping from his arm. The parasite then was shot from behind, not by Thatcher but from someone else. The parasite screeched and threw thatcher to the wall and scurried away.
Thatcher’s vision became blurry while his eyes started to close.
“Thatcher? Thatcher!!” A voice called out to him before he passed out.
“What–where am I..?”
Letting out a slight groan as he sat up in bed, Thatcher tried to comprehend what had happened. He couldn’t remember anything and his head was hurting badly. All he could remember was the parasite and the voice calling his name. He couldn't feel his hair as he lifted his arm to rub his head. He then looked down and saw that his arm was…amputated. He let out a surprised yelp, using his other arm to back up against the bed, clearly shocked and terrified about the situation.
“W-What the F-F-FUCK! MY ARM?!” He stuttered as he looked around the room, slightly panicking. Just then, another officer entered the room and looked over at Thatcher. It was Officer Jaiden Hanson.
“Ah, you’re awake! Well, that’s good news, I thought you were gonna die due to the amount of blood you lost.” She said as she went over to him and crouched a little.
“How do you feel?”
“J-Jade!? What’s going on?! Why is my arm missing!! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!”
“Calm down, Davis…look, you got bit by that parasite, so I had to amputate your arm so you wouldn’t get infected.”
“WHAT.”
“I had to, okay!? " she snapped at him but calmed down a bit, letting out a deep sigh before looking back up at him.
“Remember, it’s the only way to get rid of the infection. I would’ve tried those pills but they don’t even do the bare minimum except stopping the infection from spreading throughout the body.”
Thatcher blinked a few times until looking around the room once more.
“Well- Why didn’t you take me to the hospital instead? Why the medical room of all places?”
Jade groaned a bit as if something was irritating her before looking at Thatcher again.
“All of the hospitals are fucking closed due to the infection. I don’t know WHY since they’re everyone's only hope, but they just are…and I don’t think they’ll be opening again for quite a while.”
“....Well, shit..” Thatcher rubbed his eye until a thought struck him.
“W-Wait..Is Ruth here? She’s in the station, right?” Silence lingered in the air, Jade's eyebrows furrowed at that question.
“...What do you mean ‘Is Ruth here’? I…Is she back at the house?!”
Shame dawned over Thatcher as he looked at the ground.
“...I was scared I-”
“Thatcher, oh my GOD!” Exclaimed Jade, pinching the bridge of her nose, agitated about Thatcher.
“Goddammit…well, I’m going to go there and find her. Do you at least remember the address?”
“...I-I think I do…it’s (REDACTED).”
“Okay, good, good. Well, you just lay there and I'm going to go and get her. DO NOT leave this room. Do you understand?” Thatcher jumped when Jade raised her voice at him but quickly nodded.
As Jade was about to leave, she took one last look at Thatcher before leaving the room to go and get Ruth.
Thatcher began the waiting game. He waited and waited for her to come back but she didn’t show up for a few hours. He really wanted to see her and Ruth alive and well but he knew he had to stay in bed or else Jade would kill him. It wasn’t until a day in which he couldn't wait any longer.
What if they’re dead? Who knows, but It was too much for him to bear. He got up from the bed and stumbled out of it, hoping he would be brave enough to go over to that house. He needed to see if they were okay. He just got out of the station and walked all the way over to the house. He knew driving the car would probably result in an instant death due to his now amputated arm so walking would be the only option. All he had to do was just make sure no infected ones were in the area.
When he got there, he slowly opened the door and began looking for them. It was just as he remembered; everything was absolutely trashed, scratch marks everywhere, and furniture was flipped over. As he went further and further into the house, he started hearing…crying. It sounded like it was from Ruth! And it was coming from the basement. Immediately, he opened the door and rushed downstairs.
“Ruth! Ruth, I’m he-“
He paused mid-sentence as he saw what happened. Ruth’s leg was stuck in a bear trap—-vomit was everywhere on the floor and she was crying as the cracks on her face were very much visible- she was clearly infected. And then there was Jade who was under a fallen bookshelf, stuck. Ruth was crying and yelling.
“I-I’m so sorry!! I didn’t mean to! I-“
Ruth looked over at Thatcher and froze, out of shock that he was right in front of her.
“T-Thatcher..?…Thatcher you gotta help us! I didn’t mean to!!” Ruth screamed, crying a lot harder clearly in distress.
“W-what the hell happened?! Jade, Ruth-“
“Why are you here?!” Exclaimed Jade but stopped before sighing.
“Fuck- n-never mind, I’m sorry, I’m sorry..can you just..please try to free us? This shelf is very heavy and I can’t get it off.”
Thatcher snapped out of it before quickly springing into action. He first rushed over to Ruth, trying to pry the bear trap open, using his arm and foot as hard as he could until he was able to free her before the two went over to Jade and helped her get the shelf off.
“Agh…fuck, my ankle.”
“You guys okay?” Said Thatcher.
“I’m fine, don’t worry about me…but look at Ruth! She’s infected and it’s WAY too late to cut the infected area off.”
“Ruth…” Thatcher said as he glanced over to her. “What happened?”
Ruth looked down at the ground and stayed silent, not wanting to talk about it but she knew she had to. She took a deep breath, sniffing a little bit from all that crying and looked up.
“That…Parasite. I was just…fuck, I’m sorry it was all so sudden..”
“Thatcher? Thatcher! Christ, where is he?” Ruth muttered to herself as she walked around the house, trying to look for him. The place was trashed top to bottom so it was a lot harder to find him. She then heard a loud crash upstairs and ran to go see what happened. What she saw was the window was shattered followed by Thatcher’s voice on the radio:
“Ruth, if you're still in there, I'm going to find help, okay? Just meet at the station!”
Of course. He must’ve crashed through the window and pussied out just like the last cop.” “…Son of a bitch.” She said. Of course he’s going to run, though she wasn’t that surprised. As she went downstairs to go see Thatcher at the station, knowing damn well that she was going to give him an earful of why he shouldn’t just up and pussy out like that, she spotted something in the corner of her eye. White eyes and wide creepy smile just staring at her in the corner of the room. She looked over at the thing before grabbing her gun and pointing it straight at it, her brain on high alert as she realized what it was.
It was one of those things. A parasite.
It started to inch towards her, its grin becoming wider and wider as she backed away. “Take a step back! I’ll shoot, I'm warning you!” Exclaimed Ruth, the gun shaking in her hand. The parasite then got down at all fours and started charging at her. She immediately started firing at it, missing only a few times but was able to slow it down and right when the bullets did, she started to run. The door was not that far since she was only in the living room but just then the parasite tackled her to the ground and its teeth clamped down on her shoulder, hard.
“AUGH, FUCK!!” Ruth yelped, struggling to get it off of her. Ruth then started reaching for her gun and fired, shooting it right in the face. As it got off of her, it grabbed its face, letting out a pained hiss. Ruth backed away, and right when she did, she stumbled back and fell down into the basement, her foot accidentally hitting a bear trap, causing it to trap her foot, the razors digging into her skin and her walkie-talkie falling off her belt sliding to an area that she couldn’t reach.
Ruth screamed, trying to get it to open but there was no use. She looked up and saw the parasite looking down at her from the top of the stairs.
“Don’t you dare-” Just as Ruth was about to finish her sentence, the parasite closed the door, trapping her in. Ruth was trying to get out, calling for help out for help that didn’t come, trying to reach the radio, only for the bear trap to stop her. After a whole hour of trying she gave up and just sat there, giving up.
“...Wait, that parasite. It must’ve been the same one that attacked me..” Thatcher stated.
“That does make sense. I didn’t see it when I got here, it must’ve followed Thatcher and left Ruth to turn into an infected one.” Jade said, her and Ruth nodding at Thatcher’s statement. Ruth let out a long sigh and looked up at the two. “Well, we need to go now..I don’t think I want to spend a second longer in this damned basement.”
“I agree. I think I have some of those pills, mask and gloves in my car, Ruth. As for you.” Jade turns to Thatcher. “You better get your ass back in that medical room and you’re going to stay there! In the meantime, Ruth can stay with me until you heal. Understood?”
“But what if that parasite comes back?”
“I doubt it will..if you want, I can add some traps in the station. The other officers will be able to take care of you during that time.”
“Okay…”
And so, Jade and Thatcher put the gloves on Ruth as they entered the car and drove back to the station. They all stayed quiet the whole drive there, not knowing what to do or what to even say, Ruth was zoned out, possibly hearing those voices. By the time they had got there, Jade had dragged Thatcher back in the medical room as Ruth waited outside.
“Hey, Jade?” Thatcher asked her as she attached a blood bag to his arm. Jade let out a hum indicating she was listening.
“Are you sure you’re okay?”
“I’m fine, lieutenant, just a sprained ankle is all. All Ruth ever did was just scare the shit out of me. Didn’t realize that the bookshelf I bumped into was not stable enough. Gave up after a while.” Jade answered, letting out a dry chuckle. “I’ll walk it off, though. Now get some rest, Kay? Me and Ruth will check up on you from time to time.”
“…I’m sorry..”
“For what?”
“If I didn’t leave Ruth in the house none of this would’ve happened..you wouldn’t be hurt and Ruth wouldn’t be infected..”
“…Thatcher..listen you did do a very shitty thing but you don’t have to worry about us. We’ll all get through this.”
“Jade…” Ruth spoke up from the hallway. “Do you have any more of those pills? The voices are coming back.”
“In a minute!” Jade responded before getting up. “Gotta bounce, Davis. Like I said, we’ll visit you so don’t worry. Plus, night guards will be here.”
“Okay…bye, Hanson. Bye Ruth.” Thatcher waved goodbye to them as they waved back. As he watched them leave he stared up at the ceiling before he was able to fall fast asleep.

“Well then just fucking leave then!”
“LEAVE!!!”
Those words haunted Jonah to the core. He started to sob while hugging himself trying to recover from that terrible argument and after a while, he decided to go outside to get fresh air. As he steps outside, the freezing cold air hits him hard. He took in a few shaky breaths. “Adam…i’m so sorry…” They said. He did have a choice….go back and forget this ever happened..or continue the journey home and live with the guilt knowing your friend could be infected or even dead. Maybe go back. Just as they’re about to go back in the car, a cold, rough claw covered his mouth and threw him into a tree.
“AH- fuck!” He looked up at the person who did that and his eyes widened.
It had brown hair and a hoodie. It looked like Sarah’s brother. It didn’t even have a mouth…was that….Mark?
The alternate went over to Jonah and grabbed his arm. “...H….h….u…….ngry.” It said with a raspy and dry tone.
“P-Please…please don’t…i don’t wanna die…” Jonah said. He pleaded for the alternative to spare his life but it wouldn’t listen. The alternate sank its teeth into Jonah's arm as the poor boy screamed in pain as Its teeth sank deeper and deeper into his arm. Just then the alternate stopped and grimaced.
“..This....bl..ood is......Is absolutely DISGUSTING...” Jonah just stayed there and backed away…
“...Disgust-”
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
The alternate jolted at the gunshots and ran.
“...That’s what I thought!” the voice of a man could be heard from a distance. It was Cesar!
But Jonah fled the scene right after the alternate left
“Jonah? Jonah- FUCK he’s gone!”
Cesar cussed to himself as he began looking for him.
Meanwhile with Jonah, he saw a small little cave after a few minutes and went inside. He groaned and curled up into a ball.
Fuck.

    ⚕️T.H.I.N.K Principle⚕️
We are currently receiving countless reports of an identified deadly bacteria that will be referred to as Lurgies that can cause an infection to make anyone less humanoid with just a bite or a scratch. Until we have a complete understanding of the infection, we encourage you to stay home, be armed with any weapons, and keep any kind of medication and other sanitary things as soon as possible. You will know who is infected based on their physical characteristics. If you see a person possessing strange and aggressive behaviors such as immense hunger, Animalistic grunting noises, and becoming distracted by every little thing, run away and hide. If you see a person having unnatural characteristics, run away and hide. If the threat breaks into your home, refrain from any kind of communication, or contact with the threat. The infected ones may act aggressive towards you  and try to infect you too. If the infected one still is sane and the infection did not spread throughout their body entirely, it is best that you get medicine immediately and put them in quarantine. If the infected one just got infected, you must cut off the wounded area so the virus will not spread.
T: Tend To the infected one if needed
H: Hinder The infected one’s movement
I: Identify The infected one
N: Neutralize The infected if it’s too late
K: Keep yourself safe
K: Know that it won’t work There is no cure
Symptoms of infection:
Violent coughing
Black patches on arms and leg
Eyes glazed over
Constant drooling and shaking
Vertical pupils
There is no way to cure this infection, but here are things to keep it at bay when infected:
Medicine such as syrup or pills
Mask and Gloves to prevent from scratching
Check status every day

Ruth's medicine
Thatcher wakes up in his bed and looks at the time. It’s about 7am. He sighs and gets out of bed. It’s always the start of the routine: Give Ruth her medicine, talk with Ruth and move on with his day. He doesn’t mind though. As long as she is doing well he is happy. He walks into her room where she is found on her bed, sleeping peacefully.
“Ruth…” He says, shaking her. “Wake up…”
She wakes up and looks at him. It’s hard to tell if she was smiling or not because of the mask though.
“W-What….what is it? Is it time for the medicine already?” She asks Thatcher.
“Mhm.” he pours the syrup into a cup and hands it to her. “C’mon, you gotta drink this. It helps you.”
“It tastes really bad. Do I have to drink it?” She complains. God, she sounds like an eight year old.
“Yes, Weaver. You have to. It’s really not that bad.” Thatcher says, as he takes the mask off, slightly annoyed but concerned at the same time. She sighs and drinks it in one gulp. She grimaces at the taste. “Goddamnit…”
“It’s for the best, Weaver.” Thatcher says. He sighs and comes up with an idea. “Hey, how about this? How about we watch a movie together? Just you and me. Would that cheer you up?”
“....Sure. That would be nice.”
Later that night, Thatcher and Ruth were in the living room, watching any kind of movie. Thatcher let her have her mask off so she could eat. They eat popcorn, share a few laughs, all that stuff. Ruth then asks him something.
“Thatcher…why did you take me in? Why didn’t you run away from me like when you ran from that alternate…it…doesn’t make any sense?”
Thatcher sighs. “Ruth, I…it was still you. I didn’t want to leave you again…also, I'm sorry I did that..”
“No…it’s fine. I would’ve done the same thing.” They both chuckle.
A while later the movie finishes and Thatcher takes Ruth to her room. He puts her mask on and is about to leave until Ruth speaks.
“Can you sleep with me tonight…? I’m sorry if it’s stupid but I just need some company…”
Thatcher looks at her and sighs.
“Sure.” Thatcher holds her close as they both fall fast asleep.

WHAT IS ALTERNATE INFECTION AU? ALTERNATE INFECTION AU is a Mandela Catalogue AU where a mysterious infection gets transmitted through a bit or scratch and turns others into alternates in 10 just days. They will have to go through terrible pain and would experience the hallucinations and voices who call out to them to join them. People do not really know the cause of this terrible disaster or how to even cure everyone. This AU is also inspired by the MLP Infection AUs.
