Joining the squid games means risking your life as well, You were probably the youngest here, obviously over 18.

Before you joined everything was downhill, your mom was dying, your dad died, your siblings were literally no where to be found, at this point you were just ready to end it it all.

You couldn’t take seeing everyone dying infront of you, so here you were standing on top of bridge looking down at the dirty water, your legs fiddled closer to the edge as you closed your eyes

You were about to lean in until you heard a voice.

You opened your eyes looking over seeing a man with a suit on and a suit case as well staring at you.

So that’s how you ended here in the games, confused and even a bit scared, you walked around as after photos they took you this huge game with a huge doll

You noticed some crack head looking guy screaming at everyone to stay still and don’t move or else you’ll get shot, not like you cared much about dying but you still listened to see where it was headed

Time skip

After that game you got your dinner, you sat and observed everyone not really eating, it was until an older man came up to you “Hey, why don’t you come hang with us? You look too young to be here.. and besides we could protect you” he said smiling softly

You stated up at him “Oh- no it’s okay..” you spoke softly, “No really i insist, follow me” he said expecting you to follow which you did, you saw 3 other older guys including that guy who was screaming at everyone during the game, “I figured we should let her on the team. This is..uh, what’s your name?” he spoke putting a hand on your shoulder

“Uh..y/n” you spoke up a bit quiet, He nodded as he lead you to sit down, you sat on the little stairs “I’m young il, like my number 001..not that hard to forget” he said laughing a bit as you just did an awkward smile

“Oo..i’m Kang dae ho, Dae as in big/great, ho as in tiger!” Dae ho said, “Jung bae, i’m pretty sure it means righteous..so i guess i should be living twice as righteous” he said

“Seong gi hun.” Gi hun simply said without explaining what it means or anything, you tensed up but stayed quiet just looking at your food, “Are you not going to eat?” Young il asked, “Uh..i’m just not hungry”

“Well if you’re not hungry can i have it?” Dae ho asked as you looked over staring at him, awkward silence fell as Dae ho just looked, Young il rolled his eyes and looked back at you, “Eat up, eggs are good for you, helps keep you motivated and make sure you drink water as well” he spoke again.

“That’s great and all but i’m seriously not hungry..Ima just give it to dae ho..” you said slightly raising the plate of food but before you could raise it even higher Young il pushed it down to your lap softly, opening it and grabbing the spoon and taking a spoonful of the rice, “That’s great your not hungry but your gonna need to eat for energy tomorrow. So open up” he said staring at you intensely.

You slowly opened your mouth, enough for the spoon to fit as he put the spoon in your mouth, “Eat please, you look..a bit tired?” young il said taking in your eyebags and your droopy eyes, as well as your skin, you hummed as you slowly chewed.

“So..why are you here?” He asked “Uh..i just have hospital debts i guess” you said still eating, he nodded, “What about you? why are you here..?” you asked as well, he stayed quiet for a moment, “If you don’t wanna tell me you don’t have too..” you spoke again looking down.

“No it’s okay, i just need money for my pregnant wife..she uh needs a liver transplant” he spoke, you didn’t know what to say as you were chewing covering you mouth “oh i’m sorry.. i hope she makes it” you simply said

“Does your parents know your here?” he asked in confusion, “Uh..there gone, well my dad is but my mom is dying so..” you said silently, he immediately felt guilty for asking, “I’m really sorry..i shouldn’t have asked.” He said, “it’s fine.. everyone dies at some point right?” you said, “Mhm..” he said.

Lights out came and you couldn’t sleep at all but you eventually fell asleep, the morning came as you woke up to some music they played when everyone came, not even that long later they had took everyone to the second game

They explained the game as young il quickly found you “Hey i didn’t see you all morning you worried me..” he said, “Oh sorry..i didn’t know” you shyly said as you looked, he slowly lead you to the team without startling you.

The game was just a mini games 5 of them and we had to finish them in 5 minutes, you picked the first one since you always thought you were pretty good, but once you were doing it you felt so nervous, especially knowing you would cause the whole team to die if you didn’t flip it on time.

“Try flipping it!” Young il yelled as you looked at him and just nodded, you flipped the paper the other and threw it towards the one on the ground, you successfully done it as everyone cheered as you just smiled softly

Time skip

It was now the 3rd game mingle, Young il has been running with you and making sure you were safe, you were slowly stating to feel safe with him as well, each round was going great

“2 players”

You quickly looked around but Young il was nowhere in sight, oh god.

This is it isn’t it? why bother running around finding someone to pair, you didn’t care much but still felt worried.

You simply stood there a bit frozen, you knew it was time for this pain to end, but last second you were quickly picked up and dragged into a room on time

You widen your eyes as you saw Young il, he hugged you, “Jesus..i was so worried you just gave up on me like that..” he said silently as your arms stayed on your sides

“Sorry..i just panicked..i couldn’t find you” you said against his jacked “Luckily i found you.” he said, was he warming up to a teenager as well?

you slowly hugged him back, “Thank you da-.. young il.” you quickly said noticing what you were about to say, he heard half the word but still smiled, a part of him felt guilty on who he really was deep down.

Can you believe that I never stumbled upon that AU? Like... I know I'm on my little bubble on TikTok but I get a lot of squid game content (mostly Hwang Brothers and obviously a lot of shipping edits [Inhun, Sangihun, Juncruiter, and the occasional Junofficer]) but that AU? Never!

Now... how would the series have turned out if Jun-ho played the 28th Squid Games instead of In-ho?

Let's talk about season 1 first!

Jun-ho's whole arc is about In-ho

From the very start, Jun-ho’s only goal is finding his brother

Every risk, every turn, every boundary he crosses... it comes all back to the hope that his brother is still out there! Being swept up in the games, playing the games right now

He's a police detective, bound by rules and protocol

He literally kills a guard to infiltrate the island! That shows that his desperation outweighs even his morals

Yes, he takes pictures, collects evidence against the games, but his superior goal is still to find In-ho

Then the cliff scene

His brother is the Front Man

The one overseeing the games, who was a cop, who should have put an end to those games

And even worse - the man Jun-ho looked up to his whole life, the most important person in his life, the person who gave Jun-ho his kidney

The betrayal! The disbelief and heartbreak in Jun-ho’s face

And when In-ho reaches out, to get Jun-ho to join him?

Jun-ho doesn't give in! He doesn't surrender

Even knowing the truth, he refused to cross that final line and join him

So Jun-ho's entire arc is about In-ho.

Jun-ho joining the 28th games as a player is easy... maybe he saw In-ho struggle, he saw the weight on In-ho’s shoulders when his wife got sick, the medical debt etc.

So Jun-ho wants to help out. He wants to give something back to In-ho instead of relying on him. He joins the games to give them a chance

Jun-ho was born in 1992, making him twenty-three years old in 2015

I don't even want to attend to reconstruct Jun-ho's career progression 'cause I have no idea about the Korean police force, and I already went down the Google rabbit hole... I found many different takes on how long it takes to become a detective... I'm just gonna guess many years! So Jun-ho would obviously not be a detective yet (if someone wants to jump on this and explain it to me PLEASE DO)

I think being 23, Jun-ho would have just graduated university? And would have started at the Police Training Institute? I don't know what his rank would be (and I don't know if it's important to this AU but somehow I ended up here) but maybe rookie officer?

Anyways...

Jun-ho joins to games to pay for In-ho’s wife's medical debt

I'm guessing it would be easier for Jun-ho to play the games due to his training. At least the physical stuff - lights out for example

And Jun-ho did show to be very resourceful by infiltration the island, impersonating a guard etc in season 1

So.... Jun-ho wins the games

And comes back to his family

Would In-ho’s wife be still alive? No idea, but I can imagine that the stress of not knowing where In-ho was in the OG timeline would be way too much stress for her body so basically... killing her faster? Like she would give up?

But let's say she died and Jun-ho comes back to a heartbroken and griefing In-ho

I don't really see a reason for Jun-ho to join the system tbh... for In-ho it must have been guilt for not being there for his wife, also he was fired for taking bribes etc

Jun-ho on the other hand? Don't know how he would explain his absence at work but maybe he didn't get fired for the missing 6 days

So Jun-ho has a life to come back to, even heavily traumatized ('cause let's be honest... everyone would suffer from ptsd after experiencing something like that!)

He has all that money now, a grieving brother he wants to take care of, his mother... he would definitely use the money to give them a better life, continue his training or work to become a police detective like In-ho

Or he has such ptsd after the games that he can't stand being around weapons or death or blood

Or maybe Jun-ho would be like Gi-hun, trying to stop the games - but now out of justice instead out of desperation to find his brother

But the main reason why Jun-ho even attempted to infiltrate the games or stop the games was In-ho

It can really go either way!
