When Heathen King Meets Christian Queen
Masterlist
Pairing: Ivar x Reader
Word Count: 1492
Summary: Ivar finds more than just gold when he raids the Kingdom of Powys.
Warnings: None.
Author’s Note: Oh, looky! I’m back with another one about my new favorite couple. And I’m also back with my bad titles :) Figured I should go back to when our couple first met. It’s not quite an easy start.
----
“Who is she?” Ivar questioned the eleven prisoners kneeled before him, the last of King Fremund’s men sent from Gwynedd to help defend the Kingdom of Powys. Even with the swords and knives held against their necks, they stayed silent much like the stubborn woman in his tent. “Am I not speaking the right language? Maybe we should start ripping you open slowly, one by one, until I can get my point across.”
The shudder he heard let him know that he was being understood clearly but still no one spoke. He signaled to one of his men to commence cutting into the first prisoner in line while he went over to stand next to Hvitserk, hoping he’d get some answers soon.
“I don’t understand why you care so much about this woman, Ivar? Just put her with the other thralls,” He contested before taking a sip from his horn. Both brothers unphased by the shouts and screams in the background.
“There’s just a mystery about her. These Christians don’t typically let their women pick up a sword yet she fought as valiantly as their strongest man,” he praised. Though small in stature, you were hard not to notice as you sped down the hill even faster than some of your men. No fear or hesitation on your face. Not even after you were captured, especially not after you spat in his face when asked for your name.
Hvitserk gave him a disinterested shrug. “Maybe they just decided to let this one fight?,” he countered.
“Did you not see how they formed a wall around her when we had them surrounded? Why go through all that effort even if she was a common shieldmaiden?,” he wondered, mostly to himself. He didn’t think his brother was as invested in this puzzle as he was.
Whatever flippant answer Hvitserk was about to offer was cut off by a guttural scream from the tortured prisoner, begging his captors to stop.
Ivar raised his eyebrow at his brother before walking over to the man tied on the table. Blood from the deep cut through his stomach was pooling down onto the surface he was laid on. Leaning down to bring his ear close to the prisoner’s mouth, a smirk slowly crept across his face as he heard his whispers.
He stood up straight and pointed towards the remaining prisoners, “Kill them all including their very helpful friend here, they’re no use to me now.” He began walking to the direction of his tent. “I think I’m going to pay our important guest a visit.”
----
You were being held in a tent separate from your men, tied to the pole in front of you. The rope burned your now bloodied wrists as you struggled to get loose. You first tried to untie them but just like your captors, their knots were equally as ruthless.
You didn’t plan for this. You had seen yourself celebrating the Heathens’ defeat with your men or dying a true warrior’s death with your sword in hand on the battlefield. You even accepted that you may be a target of your husband’s wrath once he found out you ran off yet again but being captured by the enemy never entered your mind as a possibility.
A scream that sounded off in the distance reminded you of all the stories you heard about what these men were known to do to their enemies. In desperation, you began to lean back away from your bonds, praying the blood seeping down your hands would help you slip through. You probably shouldn’t have spat in their king’s face. Better yet, you should have listened to your men when they pleaded to you to let them escort you back to Gwynedd but your stubborn pride wanted just one taste of a fight.
“And what would be your plan after you got loose?” a melodic voice broke through your panicked grunts. You jumped at the sound, maneuvering your way around the pole, desperate to have something between you and the Heathen King. “I have three of my men standing guard out front, not to mention everyone else in my camp. Would you fight them all?”
You hoped that he would take your silence as an act of brave defiance and not because you didn’t consider your next move if you ever got loose from your binds. If you were fated to die, you’d rather have someone remember you as brave instead of stupid.
He slowly walked closer to you to take your hands into his one, gently caressing one of your wounded wrists, “Still nothing to say?” He held his hands up as if he meant no harm when you pulled your wrists away from him. “I’m going to ask you this one more time, little one, and do try to not spit in my face again: who are you?”
You chose to lower your head at his question as if the answer could be found on your face. With his axe underneath your chin, he brought your head up to look at him.
“I think it’s best you know that sometimes I can be a very impatient man and don’t like to be kept waiting,” he warned while looking straight into your eyes. The edge of his axe threatened to dig into your skin but still you refused to answer him. He titled his head to the side and pulled his weapon away from you before he started chuckling, “I’m kidding, I already heard enough from one of your men. I must say, you’re a very interesting woman. Most queens would try to use their status as a bargaining chip but not you.”
Upon seeing your eyes widened in surprise, he had his confirmation, “Hmm..I assumed he was lying to me when he said I had the Queen of Gwynedd in my hands. Some men will say anything when they’re being gutted like a fish. Maybe you could at least tell me why would King Fremund send such a precious thing,” he reached out his hand to caress your cheek but you shied away from his touch, “out to fight while he sits comfortably on his throne.”
You chose to look straight ahead instead of answering him.
“That’s fine, Little Queen. Stay quiet,” he whispered as he smoothed his hand down your hair before making a move toward the tent entrance. “I’m sure your men will have plenty to say if they don’t want to have the same fate as their friend.”
“No!” You cried out to him. You didn’t want to be responsible for anymore lives lost from those who were sworn to protect you. “Just don’t...don’t hurt anyone else. I had ordered them not to say anything.”
“Well I will see to it that no more of your men will be harmed. I swear.” The feeling at the pit of your stomach told you not to trust his words or the smile on his face. “So why would Fremund send you to fight for him?”
“He didn’t. He doesn’t even know that I am here,” you gave out a frustrated sigh as you pressed your forehead against the wood in front of you, “Only the few men I have left here, and now you, are aware of my whereabouts.”
“You looked very comfortable with a sword and I’m sure he’s aware that you have the heart of a fighter. If he’s a smart man, wouldn’t he think of coming to Powys to look for you?”
“No, he thinks that I would never have the courage to run into battle. That I should only be a proper queen, not a silly girl with silly dreams,” you willingly locked eyes with him as you admitted this.
Looking down at the rope around your wrists, you guessed that Fremund was right. You were just a silly girl acting out a fantasy. You took some consolation in the fact that if you die, then you would never have to hear him say that he told you so.
He lifted your head up with his axe once again so that he could look you in the eyes one last time, “It’s a shame he probably won’t ever know that he had such a strong Queen by his side.”
You closed your eyes and held your breath, waiting for the blade to cut through your neck. Instead you heard it whack into the pole before your arms fell down at your side. Your brow was furrowed in confusion as you opened your eyes.
“As my guest, it’s only right that you get a chance to make yourself more comfortable before we leave.” He walked towards the entrance of the tent but paused right before he made his exit, turning to look back at you. “Y/N, do not take advantage of my kindness. You try to run away from me, I will see to it that you can’t run again.”

A/N: I'm feeling insecure about writing and when I do, the only thing that helps is to write, even if it's god awful lol. I started with the first paragraph, just writing whatever, and it turned into this. I had plans for a completely different fandom/fic tonight, which I hope to post sometime this week. I'm sure this frustration will pass, it's just hard to get through. I feel like a mess with everything. I know its probably just the stress of school, and family, and August coming so soon. June lasted years, but July was gone in a second. Still trying to wind down from the panic I've gotten myself into. Feedback is always appreciated 💜💖💜

FIC MASTERLIST PART ONE. / PART TWO. / PART THREE.
WANNA BE ADDED TO THE TAG LIST?
You want to believe you're different from them. That your words, your writing, your work is anymore extraordinary, that somehow the thoughts in your head have not been repeated through history, stamped from one cracked skull to the next. You want to believe your eyes have seen something more, something hidden, that the trees deeply rooted, there long before your birth, and around after you're gone, have not witnessed the same blue birds or soft, summer storms. You think, for an instance, that there us a separation in what makes you you and them them. That the loneliness in your gut, the screams and cries gurgling in your throat, that this pain layered beneath every cell in your body somehow draws a line between you and them. Making you human where they are not. Giving you feeling where they lack. You hoped, and prayed, by some miracle, that whatever it was that created you wasn't in anyone else. Foolish and young, too naive for your own good. Where they bled you bruised. Where you collapsed they stood like stone. You could stare down the same Devil and see two fraternal beings, both wearing a wicked smile.
The funny thing is, you were more like them than you could ever tell.
Passed down from generation to generation, kept warm and safe cupped into two hands. The anger. Dangerous, bloody, boiling. Pricking beneath your skin like bees, tinging, numbing the sharp things that tore through it. It made your gums bleed, hateful words like knives sling your mouth up through and through. A sickening, twisted laughter bubbling, bursting out of you before you have half a mind to stop it. It made you cold, invincible, scowling at the earth beneath your feet and the sky above, somewhere in the middle this god everyone turns to in their time of need. He never showed up for you, though, instead hiding. From you, and from Arthur. The fire in your veins, swollen by gasoline blood and matches for breakfast. Your big brother caught fire with the slightest annoyance. Cagey, unyielding, a force that tore through him until he let it all out. A corrosive being stripping him of skin and bone, making man into monster. You too had been subjected to stares and glares, deemed more weapon than person. A hazard, too dangerous to be around. One more thing you had to watch out for, the bitterness in that Shelby blood.
That anger seething, turning in on itself. Imploding. Not wanting to hurt others, you hurt yourself. Bit the bad end of a barrel, a bullet sitting on your tongue, the broken bits of a bottle. You liked the way you felt when the only thing standing between you and that dark abyss of an end was yourself. That sense of control, of power, came too few times. A high you tried took chase as much as you could in this big messed up world. Hold these standards of yourself on your shoulders only took be crushed beneath them. Falling into a pit of all the things you bottled up and kissed goodbye, setting each jar on the shelf with its own special label. Grief. Guilt. Greed. Building up walls around you, a tomb to crumble in, afraid to let the rest of the world there were feelings beneath your cold complexion. Tommy always had a way of locking things up and never letting them see the light of day. Learning from the best, you guessed. Let them see your pain, your weakness, and it would be used against you. Weaponized. You couldn't survive another loss.
Boarded up, an abandoned home needing someone to crawl in and make it their own. Tidy up the place, see the potential you had beneath those rotten floors and broken bricks, chipped paint and peeling wood. A want, a need, an ache to be wanted, to be loved and accepted. John never could stand on his own, never wanting to face a bed half empty. Tripping over himself, falling too easy for the next set of wandering eyes and slim legs. He loved like no one else. And you did, too. Unrequited. Given the slightest bit of acceptance, lead into another persons word by free drinks and shameless flirting. You wanted to find the one, your other half, the same way he had, once believing the only way he could ever feel whole was with someone by his side. There was someone out there for everyone, there had to be. You weren't sure how much longer you could live so alone. Part of you wanted to think it was a lie, something you'd grow out of eventually, but John never seemed to, and you'd followed that path too far to turn back.
One day, you hoped, despite the anger, the walls, someone would find you, and love you regardless. You hoped for a lot of things. For the rain to stop and the clouds to clear. For the fog of your thoughts to disappear. For this life to be a little easier for everyone. Forgiving, motherly, nurturing, it's sharp edges dulled. To one day find your way out of all this, start fresh, start new, the potential of a freshly healed scar. Your sister had a way of whispering things in your ear, feeding into these delusions. She too wanted something more from what she saw everyday. Lost in a dream world she crested for herself. Often it was the only thing that kept you going, kept you upright. Eyes burning, sobs choking, too fragile for this world, you wanted to crawl inside the one you made from scratch and never leave. Ada told stories, too young to tell the difference between reality and imagination, her spirits high, embedding itself within your bones. The Shelby's were nothing without their dreams, their drive, their want for a perfect world just out of reach.
Without dreams, there was only dread. Fear of the future, the past, the footsteps you'd one day have to follow because that's what was expected of you. Stand tall, gun in hand, vertebrae stacked atop one another. There was no looking down, no flinching. If you weren't the best you weren't anyone. Turn a blind eye to the bad, to the meek, step on anyone who ever got in your way. Placed on a pedestal with broken knees. The baby, the one you helped raise, from cradle to grave. Never seen a second war, thrust into the one your brothers brought home. You both were. The lurch in your belly at the thought of so much red on your hands, of grief being associated with your name. You couldn't bear the thought of taking another soul from this world. Finn jumped at the pop of a gun, cringing at the cries of others. They could get used to it. Desensitized to it. But the both of you? This was new, and scary, and you were sure the softness they'd lost too long ago still lived inside you. The guilt they forgot chewed you alive, haunting your dreams. They could do as they pleased, but you couldn't. You refused to be as destructive as the rest of your siblings.
As much as you wanted to keep your distance, make some definition between you and them, there was too much of them inside you. Their faces staring back at you in the mirror. The sorrow, the hurt, the hate, the ups and downs of a life like yours, like theirs, there was no escaping it. You could run, but you could never hide. Like a shadow, it clung to your soles, dragged across the cobblestone. Escape however you wanted, however you pleased, there was only one thing all of you had in common: no matter how much you tried, no matter how hard you talked yourself into denial, that Shelby blood was a particular kind poison only the worst would become accustomed to. Try as you might, the thoughts, the feelings, all of it would follow you. Stepping on your heels. Breaking down you'd doors. It would bleed when you did, and dream with you, and hide deep within the cage of your ribs when you were too ashamed to admit it. You were of them. Always had been, always would be, no matter how much you prayed you were different.

Beyond the Water's Reflection - Chapter 1 - softwhiskeyjack - Fire Emblem: If | Fire Emblem: Fates [Archive of Our Own]
I've reread Beyond the Water's reflection so many times I wish that there was a new chapter with how gorgeous they have witten it.
(Spoilers up ahead if you want to read it for yourself)
To satiate my thirst for more of their story I've decide to come up with ideas of how I think the story would of gone on if they didn't discontinue it/no longer had an intrest on the series anymore. I could be absolutely wrong about all of my ideas, but my imagination has run wild for too long on this and there is no going back!!! Also the person that wrote Beyond the Water’s Reflection uses most of the Japanese names for the story.
First Idea!
•Shinonome and the other half of the gang rescue Matoi, Hisame, and Rhajhat
•Shinonome opens up to Xander a little more and tells him stuff about his and the others past with as vague of details as to not find out who they truly are
•Siegbert's gang escapes Hoshido during the night, but are caught escaping. Most of them escape, but Siegbert. Ryouma decides to use Siegbert as a hostage to lure the Nohrian group to get Shinonome back to Hoshido
•By shear luck Siegbert's group finds Shiro's group using either Velour's sense of smell or Opheila's warping ability (maybe a bit of both). They're all winded and some of them are still hurt from their previous injuries or from escaping Hoshido
•The next couple of days--or weeks who knows?--when everyone is in a more talkative Kisaragi finally snaps telling Shinonome about what happened and that he accidentally told his dad and Shiro's dad on who they actually were and that they don't know where Siegbert is (Siegbert told them to split up and meet up again. They don't know yet that Siegbert has been taken hostage)
•Shinonome is horrified at this revelation. He tells Kisaragi to tell the other half of the group he came with to also not tell the truth. He wants to kept this a secret for now until he finds the right time to tell the truth. He doesn't want mass panic to settle into their group, especially now Kana doesn't have her dragon stone
•Shinonome tells Xander that he and the rest of his group are going to travel to Hoshido since one of their friends is still there. Xander sees the obvious worry in Shinonome's face and asks him why he's worried. Hoshido is a wonderful place and is fairly peaceful, why should he worry? He then replies, "Not if your Nohrian."
•Siegbert is held in a deep—dank (no not the good kind)— dungeon where the sun don’t shine and everyone that is normally on death row is held: neat.
•Shinonome asks to talk to Xander again in their usual spot by the river. Xander shows up as Shinonome slowly starts to ask weird questions like, “What if you found out that the Bottomless Canyon isn’t so bottomless?”. Xander finally asks what is Shinonome trying to say and he lets all of the truth flow out of his mouth (he doesn’t, howerever, mention the fact that they are actually their children in an alternate timeline and that Siegbert is his kid. Xander thinks that Siegbert is just a different timeline version of him or the king of Nohr)
•Skipping forward a few weeks/months? The group heads to Hoshido and stops at the Nohrian side of the bridge at the Bottomless Canyon where they are met with that world’s Hoshidan royal family. Ryouma holds his hand out and asks Shino to come home along with Kisaragi. He says no. He then brings Siegbert out all battered and bruised. Thinking this will convince him to come home he asks again, but Shinonome being Shinonome, he takes that as a sign of war against his group and promptly goes apeshit (as you should)
•He fights with Ryouma who is absolutely surprised to his that his son from another world would willingly attack him, his own father, over a Nohrian Prince. What he doesn’t know is that before his dad’s death, they never really got along; hence, Shininome has already accepted the fact that his dad is already dead to him both figuratively and literally.
•Ryouma realizing, but still not fully understanding, Shinonome loves Siegbert more than he fears Ryouma
•While fighting he compliments Shino on his fighting skills. Shinonome says he talks to much
•Kisaragi just sadly looks over at Takumi from over the boarder. Takumi feels betrayed by Kisaragi and decides to shoot at him
•A battle happens. Shinonome get Siegbert and books it with him
•Xander calls off the battle. Ryouma, being a little shit, decides that if he can’t have Shinonme then Nohr can’t either. He cuts the bridge while Shino is running with Sieggy and is just about to make it to the other side
•Xander reaches out for Shinonome’s hand
•Xander fails
•Shinonome and Siegbert fall into the Bottomless Canyon
•When they breach the other world instead seeing familiar lands they were used too; They were greeted by floating islands, broken lands, and the edge of the world
Second Idea!
•Happens similarly in the first part. But, when Sieg’s group escapes from Hoshido happens differently.
•They almost leave the premises without noticing with Shiro’s Rajinto. But someone, we never truly find out who, sounds the alarm. They panic rushing into groups with missing pieces of armor on and a few weapons on hand. Raijinto, Fujin Yumi, a bow and a couple of arrows, a healing staff, stuff that is light and easy to carry
-Siegbert and Soleil are traveling on Velour’s back (Wolfskin Form)
-Percy and Nina on a flying unit (found out that Ace and Avel are dead because the author said they died in their old world)
-Ignatuis and Sophie on a horse
-Dwyer and Ophelia are traveling using a warp spell
•When Siegbert and Soleil were getting on Velour’s back the were hit with poisoned arrows from enemy lines and when Ophelia was just about to warp out of there with Dwyer a spear’s master cuts the area where she was when she warped
•Back to Shinonome’s POV we see him fall on one knee. His group and Xander panic over him asking, “What’s wrong?” And, “Are you okay?” When Shinonome answers them he says something along the lines of, “Somethings wrong.” Like, he can’t even explain it, but in his gut he can feel the dread of something going to happen or is happening at this moment and it is coming here fast
•A couple hours have passed by and Ophelia warps her group the Shinonome’s. Velour follows her scent as Ace and Avel follow behind her.
•Kinu smells Ophelia and Dwyer’s scent as Forrest sense a magical presence. When the find that it’s Ophelia they are ecstatic to see her, but before they can get a closer look at her, she collapses into Forrest arms as he feels a warm liquid start to seep onto his shirt. As he looks down at he sees blood. He then touches Ophelia’s stomach to see blood is covering his hands as Dwyer, Mitama, and himself start to heal her to the best of their abilities.
•Kinu hears the tell tail signs of a wyvern and a few horses. Siegbert and everyone else arrive mortally wounded.
•Siegbert and Soleil also pass out from exhaustion and being poisoned by an arrow and all of that. Mitama is using all of her energy to save her(girlfriend). Shinonome is panicking over Siegbert.
•Next day; Siegbert and everyone else that was in his group that was injured was put into a pop up medical tent for the time being.
•Xander wants to meet this boy that Shinonome is fond of as he wonders why he cared so much for a single stranger. Maybe it was the look of pain he was in or maybe it was how young he was to experience such a painful wound. Xander wonders how he got so many painful scars that littered the entirety of his frail, small body.
•When Siegbert wakes up he isn’t surrounded by familiar faces, but instead wakes up to find King Xander next to his bedside diligently looking over something important. Siegbert is obviously freaked out by this since his last interaction with a king didn’t end up so well for him and his family. Plus he wasn’t exactly comfortable seeing a living version of his father. Seeing someone you’ve already accept as dead is kinda not good.
•Siegbert doesn’t want to seem rude but he also really doesn’t want to interact with Xander, so his solution is to say he want to check up on the others. Xander says he’ll lead him to them, but Siegbert being uber stressed, lashes out instead saying he doesn’t need any help.
•Even though most people would of thought that as rude(But since Xander royalty most people would think Sieggy insane and wishing for a death sentence.) Xander feels sad more than anything. He should be mad, but can’t. Did he do something wrong?
•Ignoring all of the Xanny and Sieggy Angst(TM). Kisaragi is dealing with his own angst because even though Takumi was—Is his dad—he can’t help but feel guilty for leaving. He knows this is the right choice! Everyone that his group was looking for is with them, sure they are a little worse for wear, but they are still here! He was told about them leaving and decided to leave with them even though he could of stayed back in Hoshido! All he wished is that his dad could one day understand his choice.
That’s all I have for right now! Maybe I can make a part two if I get any more ideas. If any one wants to add on to this after reading it I would like to know about it! That’s all, bye
