BAM (BEAUTIFUL ASIAN MEN)
YOUR SKY (2024, THAILAND)
Episode 7
While I continue to adore Teerak and Muenfah (TEETUT CHUNGMANIRAT aka THOMAS) and how Fah revealed his feelings for Teerak to his whole family which was beautiful. And the unconditional love and support from his parents and his brother Punlee (SUPPAKARN JIRACHOTIKUL aka POR) who just do happens to be Teerak's Best friend.
This post is about these two gorgeous men and a fantastic casting as brothers.
Plus somehow this series managed to make Oh sympathetic. He's a momma's boy that doesn't feel love by his mother. And he fixated on Teerak because of his overly kind nature.

Hii! Could you write a short fic for Zayne and Rafayel - or only one if easier for you - where they're in a video call for work and a sleepy reader comes up to them, and Zayne/Rafayel makes them sit on his lap and reader is just all cuddled up and napping in their lap and people on the video call are just trying not to stare and question who you are - and Zayne and Rafayel are just having a proud bf moment like oh yes this is my girlfriend? Sorry if my english isn't the best!
Tumblr media
Zayne was teleconferencing into a meeting for other surgeons and the meeting was winding down. He was having a casual conversation with some of his colleagues, simply catching up when you open the door. His camera doesn't face it so when he looks up the others assume that someone's entered the room. You wordlessly ask if you can come in and he immediately gestures for you to come to him.
His arms open up for you, letting you come into his lap. You don't say anything as you wordlessly scramble into it, holding him tightly as you fall asleep practically immediately. He doesn't mind, telling the others to carry on with the conversation after briefly introducing you to the others. He doesn't say much but he doesn't have to - the smile on his face and the adoring way he looks at you being more than enough to express just how much he loves you.
Tumblr media
Rafayel doesn't care who sees him doting attention on you. The second you come into his studio where he's on call with some rich clients. You crawl into his lap without thinking, burying your face against the crook on his shoulder. You're exhausted and you can't fall asleep without him, and you know that he wouldn't care if you interrupt a meeting.
The second you enter the camera's view he's peppering your face in kisses. He's cooing at you, showering you in affection and ignoring everyone on the call as he spoils you. Everyone just kinda stares at him, not sure what to say or do in response. Thomas tries to tell them not to ask about you but he fails in his mission, prompting Rafayel to derail the entire client meeting to speaking about you. Thankfully, they were already aware of his difficult reputation so they're only kicking themselves for not heeding Thomas' warning.

This Week in BL - Bit Slow
Organized, in each category, with ones I'm enjoying most at the top.
Jan 2025 Week 1
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series - Thai
ThamePo (Fri YT) ep 4 of 12 - Okay, that bit where Jun tells Po not to “get carried away” did you notice Jun's particle use? He went informal/intimate with an elder AND he also went slightly queer coded - illustrating he knows Po is gay. Interesting, slightly rude, and confrontational choice. I like Jun less because of it.
Tumblr media
Frankly speaking, I'd rather a rap battle than sing-off but I still fast forwarded the rap (I muted the singing). Not sorry.
The bit where the 2 of them are talking for hours was the most realistic portrayal of a budding romantic relationship I’ve ever seen in a BL. Virginia Woolf was an interesting choice.
Tumblr media
Your Sky AKA How to Train Your Seme (Sun iQIYI) ep 7 of 12 - Fah is so sweet. He’s terrible at talking but he’s always trying to communicate with Rak anyway. I love that for them, and us. Rak's confession to his friends scene was so adorable. I love this friendship group a lot. Thomas’s English is v good, also I kinda love his parents. Still the mains were apart for most of this ep so it fell in the standings.
Tumblr media
Sangmin Dinneaw (Sun iQIYI) ep 1 of 10 - Oh my goodness aren’t these 2 pretty? What a fun little show. I am enjoying it so far. I really like that Sangmin is actually bilingual. Or at least has the appearance of being so. This feels a lot stronger to start than any of the other co-country BLs I've seen.
Tumblr media
Fourever You (Thurs YT) ep 14 of 16 - They cute. I remain a little concerned that North is so easygoing that he got railed into this relationship (literally and figuratively). His body language indicates he’s not super into Johan, so with these 2 I’m often thinking about peer pressure.
North didn’t keep that gear for very long, did he? I would’ve loved it if the twist was just that North was secretly a genius. He aced all of his tests, and was lazy because he wasn’t being challenged.
Gamer side couple are bothering me, now that there’s catfishing involved.
Caged Again (Fri Gaga) ep 9 of 10 - Why am I now thinking of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the child catcher with these bad guys?
Tumblr media
Again I found myself largely bored. I’m beginning to think this show could’ve been cut down by at least 2 eps.
For linguistic cuteness, did you notice Sun & Junior use rao/ter? SO ADORABLE!
Tumblr media
Perfect 10 Liners (Sun YT) ep 10 of 24 - I like Santa and Perth’s chemistry more than I thought I would. The brothers' bickering and tension is interesting, are they all adopted or meant to be actual bothers? Meanwhile, cohabitation trope is a go.
The Heart Killers (Weds Gaga) ep 7 of 12 - no episode this week because of New Year’s.
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
See Your Love (Taiwan Weds Gaga) ep 12 of 13 - "Happiness came so fast I couldn't think about how long it would last" could be the statement for every penultimate BL episode ever. This main couple is just so gorgeously wonderful and precious and lovely. What a way to execute the Adams apple fetish.
Tumblr media
Our Youth AKA Miseinen: Mijukuna Oretachi wa Bukiyo ni Shinkochu (Japan Tues Gaga) ep 9 of 10 - Just so painful. "You've always been alone." These characters are so casually cruel to each other. And, of course, the running of the gays!
Eternal Butler (Taiwan Fri Gaga) eps 4 of 12 - I am growing to love that little push-up of the glasses that he does. Sex herb trope continues to be v amusing. Nice to see Ever 9 again! We got backstory for our poor little damaged rich boy, very soap opera. I am more interested in Ever 4's backstory tbh. Uh oh the glasses came off.
Teenager Judge (Vietnam Sat YT) ep 14 of ? - Well at least something happened and things finally came to a head (or "a body" as the case may be). Will we continue with any kind of progression next week? I hope so.
It's airing but......
Winter Is Not The Death of Summer (Thai ???) - has been picked up to air on WeTV, or something? Criminals who meet in prison fall in love. I did find it on YouTube, initially un-subbed, then subs happened by which time I got distracted. It is very pulp but intriguing. For now it's to the wayside until someone tells me it landed safely. Occasionally Thai pulps want to be edgy and it's not a good look on them. But sometimes they do good.
In Case You Missed it
End of year wraps are here!
2024 Trend Report

Best Kisses (and sex scenes) of 2024
BL's 2024 Quirky Awards
2024 Awards - Quick Picks
Strange is doing a pretty interesting deep dive into Omegaverse et al. I particularly enjoyed this week's installment: Why Do Women Write So Much Gay Fanfiction?
I rarely (if ever) report on the gossip, BTS relationships, or sasang behavior of the fandoms but here is a 2024 retrospective from someone else if you want all the gossip and drama (YouTube). Or are afraid you missed something important.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Tumblr media
2 ending, 2 starting.
January Drops
1/5 The Boy Next World (Sun IQIYI) 10 eps trailer - MAME warning. Multiverse slip through time kinda thing. Mame + high concept, we in for a bumpy ride. I should trash watch and live blog but I don't think I have the energy.
1/6 Ossan‘s Love Thailand (Mon YouTube) 12 eps - WHY MUST THIS BE?!!
Tumblr media
1/9 When it Rains it Pours (Japan Thurs Gaga) 10 eps - Convoluted story about a man in a relationship who is sexually unfulfilled and his friend who is in love with him, who accidentally become secret confidants.
1/15 Impression of Youth (Taiwan Weds ????) 9 eps - Same team as DNA Says Love You, so I have high hopes.
2025 Line Up

❦ Oh no, there seems to be only one bed. Whatever will we do? pt.2❦
My favourite hate-love trope in which you have to share a bed with your crush.
Finally leaving my drafts now after everyone started making the "too many beds trope" (which is funny ngl)
pt.1 here
//Thoma, Itto, Dottore, Alhaitam//
(you can tell on who I just gave up entirely. Also my english is deterioating, maybe I'll proofread in the following days...)
no pronouns mentioned :)
Thoma
If you didn't know better you'd say that this situation was carefully crafted by your employer. It had to be. Ayato had fun watching you squirm around your colleague. Which you did anytime Thoma shot you one of his signature smiles, or when he leaned over your shoulder to inspect what you were doing. You folded so quickly whenever he laughed at one of your jokes. How could you not? The guy was the sweetest thing one could ever lay eyes on.
All of that aside, you just had a feeling that this situation was no coincidence, as you stood there, next to your fellow maid, staring at the bed.
You blinked, then looked over at Thoma.
The poor guy.
Before you could actually grasp the situation and make a comment about it, he already yelled out "I can sleep on the floor".
When you turned to look at him, the first thing you noticed were his bright red cheeks. The second thing you noticed was the mild terror in his facial features.
You blinked at him, taken aback by surprise before mumbling "You sound like the thought of sharing a bed is dreadful to you." You let out an awkward cough before speaking up again "I wouldn't want you to sleep on the floor but.. maybe we can find another mattress, if it's really that bad for you?" you raised an eyebrow, eyeing him with suspicion.
A shimmer of dicomfort hushed across his features. The accusation didn't sit right with him. He cleared his throat while scratching the back of his head in embarassement "Hm, no. That's not... what I meant...". He sighed "I just wouldn't want to make you uncomfortable you know.." A sheepish smile crossed his features while the blush only seemed to worsen "I'd actually.. like bedding with you- Ah!" He caught himself in a cough "Not..not like that! Oh" He hid his mouth beneath his hand, staring at you "Please say something before I keep talking".
Your only answer to that was a soft laugh, followed by a quiet but adoring "Alright, let's bed together then." With a smile you went ahead to get ready for the night, giving the blonde a second to compose himself before following your example.
(would sleep on the floor, maybe even outside if you'd ask him to)
Itto
As soon as the two of you laid eyes on the bed..: "Dips" both of you yelled in unison, before staring at each other.
"Well" you crossed your arms "sharing is caring…?" You tilted your head and he nodded. "Yeah yeah, that's right. We'll just share. It'll be fiiine". He looked embarrassed but you didn't know what caused it. Maybe he was just nervous that he might fart during the night or something.
Then a thought hit you. "Oh" you looked at him "oh my, do you snore?". Your eyes widened in horror at the mental image of how loud he'd probably snore. He seemed offended. "What? ME? Snore? Noooo I don't snore" he made a move with his hand.
All in all: "I'm not convinced" you sighed.
"Okay okay, tell ya what" he pointed a finger at you "I know I don't snore but if you find me snoring in the night, I'll give you money. If I don't snore I'll get to take you out. How does that sound? Deal?" He extended his hand, which you naturally took to shake "Yeah whatever big boy, all you're gonna end with is crippling debt" you laughed. You didn't actually know if he was a snorer but you just had to believe now.
Both of you shook hands when you paused "Hold on" you narrowed your eyes, shooting him a confused look "why take me out? Like…you don't mean as in…death right??". He gasped "WHAT? No no no, not like death, I mean like food. Eat something. Make you less hungry yknow?". He shrugged "I've wanted to ask for some time now but the chance never came", he scratched his head embarrassed before returning to his signature grin "but now I'M going to win and you have to come with me. You can't say no!".
You chuckled quietly, shaking your head in disbelief 'what an idiot' you thought. "Alright" you murmured "let's get to bed then"
(You cannot tell me that the guy doesn't snore, I am CONVINCED that he does (my friend said he'd probably have a snore bubble too and now I can't unthink it (ANOTHER friend mentioned how he doesn't sleep with his eyes closed, I'm losing my mind at the mental image)))
Alhaitam
As soon as he sees your embarrassed expression he´s like „we´ll sleep on the floor“ and that‘s it. I know you wanted this. Thank me later.
Dottore
Never would you have guessed that one day you'd end up in this situation.
You, standing next to your BOSS of all people, in front of a lonely bed.
It's not like you hated the man next to you. In fact he was actually quite nice towards you. Or…at least as nice as the guy could get. But you were still alive after like 3 years of working for him, so that already counted for something.
You were more of a simple task person, so everyone always dumped some sort of random task onto you. Through that, you've managed to actually befriend some of your colleagues although you've started to not get too personal with them. Sometimes some of them just went missing and you really didn't want to ask anyone what that was about. Instead you opted for the emotional distance option.
It was wild to think about. The only reason Dottore took you with him on his mission was because everyone else was busy, preparing for something big. You, on the other hand, were not so busy. All that was left for you to do was to bring an occasional glass of water to one of the other workers. So when Dottore asked you to join him on his travels, you just nodded, not giving it much thought.
But even if you had given it much thought, the idea of ending up sharing a bed together would've probably been the last thing to cross your mind.
Before you could actually grasp the entire situation though, Dottore had already started taking off his unnessecary accesoires, leaving them on the bedside table. Clearly he didn't care about the whole situation.
You on the other hand needed another second or two to collect yourself. You looked at him, wondering if he even mentally checked that this was about to happen or if he was so far off into logic land to recognize your presence in the first place. Sighing you just took off into the bathroom, following your bed routine like usual....
(says either we take turns on the bed or we share, who cares honestly, the man's on a mission)

Ok. I was taking a break from my studies and it resulted in me being today days old when I found out that Syaoran is called Lionel in the French dub.
.....
....
....
At this point, my brain just refuses to compute that.
LMAO. What is the world? And apparently Meilin is Stephanie. Weirdly enough, it suits them. Though Tiffany, Thomas and Gauthier a bit too much for me. OK. Let me heacanon this. Syaoran is actually called Lionel at his school in Hong Kong. Like either he is very politely referred to as Classmate Li (there is an exact term for that in Cantonese which I can't remember) or people from outside the family just call him Lionel (This should be the case since it was pretty odd that no one outside his family called him by his first name. Makes sense in Japanese culture but Hong Kong, especially in that age group, is not that formal). Either way, outside the family or his classmates, he is referred to by his full name, either Lionel Lee (in Hong Kong or abroad) or Li Xiaolang or Lei Siu Long (according to proper Chinese naming or calling conventions). He is either Baobei (which is like baby or treasure) to his mother or LangLang (affectionate nickname) or Didi (little brother) to his sisters. Only people in his clan, including Wei and Meiling, call him Syaoran (or Siu Long, to be more accurate) and he is Li-kun to rest of his Japanese friends and acquaintances. So, Sakura with her "Shaoran-kun" is her own unique way of calling his name. I am pretty sure he has a hidden real name but he adores being called that by Sakura. Everytime Sakura calls out to him with "Shaoran-kun", he thinks to himself that one day, once both of them are strong enough, they will reveal their real names to each other. Although, I would love to think that he teases her with his own English name when he speaks to her in English and she struggles with it.
I am so sorry Aubretia 😭
I took so long replying to your ask too.
You definitely brought me back in time with the mention of the French dub! When I was a kid, the first run of the CCS anime was incomplete here in Italy, and for long time the only episodes I watched were only up to the 46th one.
But my father had put up satellite television and some time later I could catch CCS on Fox Kids in France, it seemed like a dream to me. I obviously did not know any French back then, but I quickly learned some things, and how the characters were called in that dub!
At first it felt quite strange to me too (in Italy CCS, strangely enough, was one of the first anime where the names were left almost untouched after the 90s wave of modified and butchered anime) but I got used to it rather quickly.
I think when you say
This should be the case since it was pretty odd that no one outside his family called him by his first name
you're referring to the bit where Meiling actually says that he's the one who doesn't call anyone by their first name outside family, right?
Well it does indeed make sense for JP culture, probably less elsewhere.
Omg!! Syaoran would indeed have so many names, can he keep up with all of them to properly respond when he's called by someone? 😆Yes, "Syaoran-kun" is exclusivity of Sakura 🥰
(I can tooootally see his sisters call him didi 😆)
Sometimes I do wonder about Syaoran's real name.
My idea is that the one we know is indeed his real name because when Eriol spelled out his name in the "falling from the tree scene" back in Sakura Card Arc, he seemed "hypnotized" and Eriol had successfully gained control of his body through the thread 😅the whole idea that if someone got your true name, they have your soul in their hands...

I am so happy, that there is another blog that defends Mary I, SHe is honestly the most vilified Queen in English history. She was painted as an evil catholic fanatic ruler even though she executed fewer people than her father and sister. She loved her country. She dedicated herself to fixing the things she thought were destroying her country. She faced Scrutiny and persecution because of her faith. What is your reaction when people compare Mary I to her Father King Henry VIII? What does she feel about her father? does she adore him or despise him?
i agree with you wholeheartedly!! and it makes me so happy that more and more people start to learn the truth about queen mary.
now here's my thoughts on your questions. it may disappoint you and others but i always speak my mind. mary had, indeed, inherited some of henry's personality traits (it's a whole another topic but if you want me to elaborate it, i can do it sometime) it's her father after all, we all, unfortunately, take from our parents. however, the people that compare mary to henry, do it in a wrong way or they have simply vicious intentions (i'm looking at the protestant missionaries)
they mostly compare their ruling styles and again, they have some similarities even there BUT mary had never ever had her own people applied certain torture methods, unlike what henry viii (and the other tudor monarchs) had constantly. so when they claim that mary followed her father's way of ruling, i simply want to gag my own eyes and forget i read. if we really want to compare henry viii to someone in his family, it would be his second daughter, elizabeth tudor (again, another topic but i'm open to discuss it)
and your other questions, well, we'll never know exactly how mary felt about her father but we can have strong conjectures. in my opinion, it is clear that mary knew exactly what kind of a man her father was and what he was capable of. she faced his cruelties at a young age and suffered greatly because of him and his actions. and mary wasn't a naive woman. she knew it was all his choice, though he was sometimes influenced by others.
do i think she loved him? yes, i do. do i think she despised him? yes, absolutely! these can happen at the same time. you can love someone and still be aware of their vile personality traits.
considering the reports and mary's own words, i think mary hated him as much as she loved him. she respected him but didn't approve his actions. she took care of him when he was sick. we don't know what was her reaction to henry's death, it wasn't recorded, but we know that she took offense when katherine parr got married so soon as we can read her letter to thomas seymour.
and most importantly, she grieved him and i don't think she did it just because she was expected to do this. it was because, no matter what kind of a shit father he was, he was still her father who once called her 'the pearl of his kingdom'
father-daughter relationships are complex, speaking with experience. at the end blood runs thicker than water.

(synthpop anon) to be more specific i'm looking for more stuff in the vein of depeche mode, new order, pet shop boys, soft cell, etc. the type i can best describe as "fun music with jaded lyrics". speaking of yaz(oo) i already really like upstairs at eric's!
hmmm. I worry that I might not have the best recs for you then because I'm one of those people who doesn't pay THAT much attention to lyrics... it took me a full decade to realize that tryouts for the human race is a song about sperm. sung from the perspective of a sperm lol. I just hear a moroder synth line and black out
so forgive me if any of these are (1) songs/bands you already know or (2) don't quite fit the ticket, but let me try to suggest some stuff based on vibes...
sparks, actually. I still haven't listened to most of their 80s discography (one of these days...) but I adore no 1 in heaven, which is 100% synthpop, and kimono my house, which isn't. but those boys are insane lyricists so if you like fun music about crazy shit you're in the right place.
if you already like yaz (I specifically said yazoo in my last response in case you hadn't heard of em, since when you google "yaz" the first thing that comes up is the birth control pill... but as a yank I admittedly never call them yazoo lol) then you know that vince clarke is a fucking legend. and as one half of erasure I think some of erasure's lesser-known hits fit the bill. love to hate you, who needs love like that, oh l'amour...
bronski beat for more gay synthpop. oh shit marc almond is here?
I only know a handful of devo songs, so if you want better recs you'd need to ask my dad lol, but i like love without anger and freedom of choice
XTC!!!
prefab sprout has some bangers across the board but the king of rock and roll is a song about a washed-up music star with thomas dolby in the production seat. so pretty much exactly what you're looking for.
tears for fears? broken, change, mothers talk... plus the US mix of mothers talk that I mostly don't like but I adore the intro (it's not that you're not goooood enough... it's just that we can make you bet-taaah...)
OMD is good. check out dazzle ships
midge-ure era ultravox is maybe too on the nose. literally dancing with tears in my eyes, lol. plus reap the wild wind, the thin wall, and of course vienna
not necessarily jaded lyrics but aztec camera is really moody and good. I love high land, hard rain (and this extended version of walk out to winter...)
jaded but not synthpop: the english beat. seriously, hear me out
it's less synthpop-y than some of this other stuff, but these gary numan solo albums are my fave: dance and I, assassin
if you don't already like japan you gotta go listen to gentlemen take polaroids front to back. then try titles by mick karn
some random one-offs: happy hour; promises, promises; the politics of dancing
and then, of course, the all time legend

I honestly feel a little like an asshole listing my favourite things. Like who the fuck am I? But also I want to review and talk about some of the stuff from the year so here it is! I guess it's ended up a list of what's been most impactful rather than my favourite. What's a favourite anyway? Lists in no particular order.
Books
Picnic at Hanging Rock by Joan Lindsay - My brother-in-law has been telling me to read this for like a year+ and all I'd heard about it was this podcast on the movie, so I was like meh. Eventually I guess, since I like my brother-in-law. But the book is so good; it made me realize that I'd never really engaged with Australian fiction in a major way because this is a book About the Australian project of imposing English civilization on a landscape that they haven't fucked into a garden.
Tenth of December by George Saunders - When my book club picked this book for our short story collection I was so annoyed. More literary fiction? I'll read it, I GUESS. But these short stories whipped ass so hard that it made me return to reading other respected fiction that I had dismissed. There were stories I enjoyed reading less than others but all of them have stuck around with me.
The Reformatory by Tananarive Due - My book club actually read her debut, The Between, but I misread which book we were supposed to be. They were meh on her debut but I adored The Reformatory, which is a book that makes you clutch the blankets with anxiety for the characters you honestly like and bare your teeth in anger for our common American past of horrors. I recommend reading her author's note/acknowledgements too.
Our Share of Night by Mariana Enriquez, trans Megan McDowell - Speaking of horror that gripped me by the short hairs, Our Share of Night was a hard read but one I couldn't put down (and lost me sleep cuz I read until 2AM). The slowly unfolding understanding of the horrors that Juan is trying to make sure that Gaspar can escape, and Gaspar's eventual attempts to understand who he is and who his father is in their wake is deeply moving; dark and queer and wrenching. I didn't go in knowing much about Argentinian history, but it had a lot to say on the subject, and I should probably find an Argentinian perspective on the book...
Our Band Could Be Your Life by Michael Azzerad - I did read quite a bit of non-fiction this year, but nothing gave me a deeper and more practical understanding of the world I live in and my own history as Our Band Could Be Your Life. A history of the hard edge punk scene of the 80s, the book taught me about being a musician in general--something I've never thought too hard about before--and about our punk predecessors in particular. Full of people just living, creating, and touring in their communities with love and hate and drugs and straight edge and leftists and nazis and poverty and middle class comfort.
Honorable Mentions to Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle, a book that's approaching the fear of AI right to me, and to Water Outlaws by SL Huang. Oh, and Inherent Vice by Thomas Pynchon! If you ever want to start thinking harder about the 70s...
Film/TV
I Saw the TV Glow (2024) - Have you ever seen a movie and said, "Wow this director is talking directly to me?" Horrifying and sad, and yet despite the tragedy of the end, oddly hopeful--like it's saying, this doesn't have to be you. the world is so hard but if you do what Owen can't then maybe you can break free
Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992) - What I've always wanted from Twin Peaks: an unflinching look at the horror of it's original premise. That the weirdness and surreality of the story are sometimes the only way to look into so deep betrayal, so wretched an action. Everything that Sheryl Lee does here is phenomenal.
Paprika (2006) - Honestly I don't hear people quite talk about Paprika with same reverence that they do about some of Kon's other work. Like, "yeah yeah it's his final master work, we got it." But this movie pulls you so deeply into the dream, that it feels like reality could split apart beneath you for an hour when you're done. There is magic in the world--and that's beautiful, and amazing, and dangerous as hell.
The People's Joker (2022) - Personally I don't think you can really engage as a full Batman fan until you've seen Vera Drew's take on the world. I might still be only a small part of the way through my project to do all Batman media ever, but Drew's direct queering of canon, her reinterpretation of Batman as not the center of the goddamn universe, her way of expressing herself through the medium of canon--it feels crucial to any of us fangirls to at least see what she is trying to do.
Love Lies Bleeding (2024) - I Saw the TV Glow might have been speaking to me directly, but Love Lies Bleeding was exactly for me. From the director of Saint Maud, I should've known to expect grotesquerie and horror and yet I was delighted and shocked by their moments in this gay Americana love story. The human body is capable of horrors and of horrors being visited upon, and yet also so hot. The family must be escaped, but escaping it will only draw us deeper into similarity with the ones we hate the most.
Honorable Mentions to Monkey Man (2024), Tar (2022), The Green Knight (2021), House (1977), We Are Lady Parts Season 1, and Twin Peaks: The Return.

Another CGI character I adore is Millie.
She's such a fun little feisty engine. I'm sure her working at a castle would've had some people think she'd be all posh or something, if she was just a non-speaking character like the lorries past their debut episode or something but she's not.
She's kinda a pint sized Thomas to big engines when she feels like she needs to be, and yet she's also kinda sheltered.
Tumblr media
Being a private engine to an adventurer, I'd be surprised if she didn't have ANY adventures with this eccentric historian at all but at the same time, she is used to her owner's adventurous attitude and yet isn't used to something as simple as going through tunnels. That kinda shows how long she must've been in her shed while Sir Robert was on his adventures.
Tumblr media
Speaking of foreign adventures it's fun how she's a French engine, showing how she's potentially one of the incredible finds Sir Robert saw on his travels, and yet is also shown to use more English than Daisy.
She doesn't flaunt her Frenchness, which she shouldn't i.e. some BWBA characters, nor does she brag about her position as a private engine, and yet she also had to learn to get used to dirt in 'The Switch'. It's a fun little blend of character traits.
Tumblr media
God bless MasterOfTheLemons and HiroTheJapaneseTrain too for focusing more on her dynamic with the Earl and potential adventures they might've had long ago, as she deserves.

Name: Petunia Oakwood
Age: 18
Book of Origin: “It Lives in the Woods”
Race: Black/Kenyan-American
Sexuality: Bisexual
Religion: Christian
LI: Lucas Thomas
Bio: A musician who could not also spin a guitar but also a bat.
Petunia was born to a Kenyan mother and a black father. She is the oldest and recently got into “adulthood”. Petunia can speak fluent Swahili and English. She also gets on her little brother Phlox for not practicing when he has time and his hair. She honors both her Kenyan and regency heritage. Her septum piercing was for her 18th birthday as she really wanted one growing up.
Petunia has always been sociable and outgoing. This lead her to Jane and eventually Mr.Red. Unlike her brother, weird stuff excites her and Mr.Red was weird enough.
However, after Jane’s death, the outgoing personality stopped. She became more brooding and antisocial. Mostly giving a slight nod when greeted. The only friend she had at the time was music. It inspired her to pursue it and she began to practice the electric guitar. When she got to high school however, there was no guitar in band so she instead joined the color guard/ flag team. The only reason was that she could learn cool tricks with her guitar.
When Mr.Red came back, she was on board with stopping him. Saying that no one else should die by his hand. Petunia also has a knack for spinning long pole like things so the barb wire was perfect for her. When Noah betrayed the group, she still had some sympathy for him, but was hurt as she thought she could have ALL her friends back. But it wasnt in the cards.
Petunia knew from the jump that she was bisexual. She would try to impress girls and guys with her guitar skills, but they would always fail. When she was a kid she had a crush on Lucas but was always too scared to tell him. And it didn’t help that he had a glow up in high school. During their time together fighting Redfield, realized it was more than a crush. She always adored how smart and dedicated he was. After homecoming, the two got together officially. She even wrote a song for him!
In ILB and ILW Petunia doesn’t go to college yet. With all the supernatural things going on she decided that college can wait. She really wanted to go to be a doctor. She decided saving the world from the paranormal was more important. When Noah came back she forgave him, but still watches herself around him just in case. Also, in ILW, she becomes engaged to Lucas.
Despite the supernatural, Petunia considers herself to be a Christian. Having no problem with her faith, and praying puts her at ease.
At the end of the day, Petunia has a knack for spinning things and kicking monster ass. She may be quiet at first will be there to protect you.
(While Petunia follows the MC route, if possible, her alternate death would include Jane stealing her electric guitar, pulling off a string and slitting her throat with it!)

🖊 + Either James or Silas? I'd love to hear more about them!
HELL YEAH BABYYYYYYYYY THIS is gonna get long REALY quick. I want to talk about my murderous baby boy Silas, since I need to flesh James out more. I hope that's okay!
(TW: mentions for abuse, poison and murder)
Sweet like Sugar, Deadly like Poison: France's Adored Actor - Silas Tueuse:
FIRST IDEAS:
Baby!!!! Baby boy!!! He was actually the first design/idea I created before Mandisa, Raquelle, James, Lacrimosa and Celeste. He was also my first time trying to draw with the Lackadaisy character references! (i.e. the blue circles/heads, the sketching style, etc.)
He was a character that I just knew wasn't going to be a good guy. He just had the vibes of "antagonist" written all over him. Though he didn't always start out this way
His last name was originally going to be Mallory, meaning "unfortunate" in French. However, I switched it over to Tueuse, the meaning of quite literally "slayer" or "killer".
He was based off of a Savannah Cat breed! I didn't know which cat to do at first, but once I settled on it, I immediately had an idea and color palette in mind. Below is an example of the cat I referenced.
Tumblr media
^this was the main design I used, but I wanted to keep it simplified.
Silas was purposely made to look feminine! He is not trans, but he is homoromantic demisexual! While his killing techniques include flirting and seducing, it is NOT out of pure love. It is only a manipulation tactic before he slips poison into someone's food or drink.
His voice claim, especially with THAT hair, is Daveed Diggs. He just RADIATES Thomas Jefferson/Lafayette-Hamilton vibes (since they're the same person lmaooo)
I also wanted a bit of a counterpart from the Savoy Siblings, I guess! That's why I made Silas and Raquelle :)
FACTS/HEADCANONS:
He is Raquelle Tueuse's older brother, and he takes after his father more than his mother. He speaks more English than French, but he is fluent in both.
He always had a passion for acting! He just knew it was his calling.
His father actually encouraged his passion for acting, and even gave him a few Shakespeare books, as well as other classic literature.
He is double jointed....self projecting here lmao-
He is travelling from France to all across America in search for "business", with his sister by his side. In reality, he's just going off, killing any target Lacrimosa gives him when in Hotel Maribel. (Mirabel Hotel?? HELP???)
When his father died, so did a piece of him, his sister and mother. His mother became rather abusive, and a belligerent drunk.
His first kill was unfortunately his mother one night, when she was hitting Silas and Raquelle, ultimately hurting them. When Silas killed his mother, it was fourteen years ago, when he was fifteen.
He is very protective of his sister, and very understanding to her mental struggles. He tries his best to be present.
His comfort food is Cassoulet! It's a French stew that includes Haricot beans with meat: you can use pork, sausages, goose, duck, lamb or mutton for the meat portion!
Tumblr media
He would happily kill for his sister, and die for her too. That's just a given.
He collects daggers, classic literature, and also eyeliner.
ROLES/PURPOSE/OTHER STUFF:
He is the left hand man for Lacrimosa, and often works with Mandisa too.
He's the supporting antagonist, though I do see him more as an anti-hero.
Once he's in the right group of people, he is that ball of energy, yet at the same time he's such a sweetheart deep down...if it weren't counting on his multiple murders. While he's a sweetheart, this does NOT condone his behavior. He is still technically a bad person since he murdered a lot of people.
Cyanide is his poison of choice: quick, effective, deadly. He would then use any weapon (knife, gun, pool stick, any potentially dangerous object in the room) and kill his target.
If it were 2023, his song would be UH OH! by Sub Urban and BENEE.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^my entire thought process when Silas
buuuuut yeah!!! This is my boy Silas Tueuse, whom I love, and is near and dear to my heart. He deserves a good mother figure in his life :<

Thomas Tuchel Hints at Staying With England beyond FIFA 2026
FIFA 2026: Men’s England national team head coach Thomas Tuchel has hinted that he may continue to be in charge of the team even beyond the FIFA World Cup 2026. Even with the recent loss of England 3-1 by Senegal in a friendly international match played at the City Ground, Tuchel was in high praise for the team, the environment, and the welcome accorded to him as the head coach.
Tumblr media
His words have opened debate concerning the long term future of England’s management and how his prolonged presence could be advantageous to the Three Lions come Euro 2028. Tuchel, who took over from Gareth Southgate after the latter’s resignation in the wake of Euro 2024, has made a promising start with England.
Under him, the team has won its first three World Cup qualifiers without allowing a single goal to be scored against them. These wins have placed England at the summit of its qualifying group and have opened eyes among fans and commentators. His accomplishment so early in his tenure after accepting the position places him in rarefied space, being only the fifth England boss to have claimed his first three games in command.
Tuchel Eyes Extended England Role at FIFA World Cup 2026
The others who have conducted such campaigns with success are Glenn Hoddle, Sven-Göran Eriksson, Ron Greenwood, and Fabio Capello, the latter of whom holds a record unmatched for winning his first eight matches. In the same manner that the defeat to Senegal was needed to prove the test in tactics and assessment of new players, Tuchel’s fervor and dedication to work are not shaken.
Tumblr media
Speaking after the game, he was candid about the potential of staying on after his existing contract expires, which will run to mid-term of the 2026 World Cup on United States, Canada, and Mexican soil. I will always be drawn because I enjoy the team, and I enjoy the challenge. Tuchel called it an honour to be English head coach.
I know how it is to manage this team, particularly after such a massive tournament like the World Cup. Despite this dismal performance [against Senegal], I would feel that I am where I am supposed to be. Tuchel pointed out that he had been looking for a new challenge after his previous club engagement and that managing a national team like England provides a unique professional experience.
Tuchel Finds His Footing with England in FIFA 2026
Granted for his tactical acumen and disciplined method of playing, Tuchel has already set the tone for discipline and concentration in the England team. Though the team is still yet to get its bearings under him, the erstwhile Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain boss looks increasingly comfortable with the English football ethos.
I’m content where I am today, he added. I adore the new challenge. I required this level of challenge, a change of environment. I believe the support, the trust, and the respect from the federation people. That means a great deal to me. Tuchel praised the players as well, expressing his gratitude for their efforts, professionalism, and willingness to learn his ways.
Tumblr media
I adore the squad of players, he said. I want to give them a go. I want to find out how much we can achieve together. It feels like a good one. His comments indicate that as long as performances hold up and in the case of superior desire, Tuchel might seriously think about remaining in command so that he could drive England to Euro 2028.
Tuchel’s Calm amid High Expectations in FIFA World Cup 2026
The tournament, which will be hosted in the UK and Ireland, would be a fitting milestone for both Tuchel and the team to aim for, especially with a talented generation of English players maturing under his watch. The timing of his comments is significant. England’s next matches in their World Cup qualifying campaign are against Andorra and Serbia on September 6 and 9, respectively.
Tumblr media
For a national team that has often struggled with consistency and identity in the post-2010 era, Tuchel’s influence might be the steady hand required to lead them to silverware. However, some questions remain. Can he handle the intense scrutiny and pressure that comes with managing England over the long term.
Tuchel’s Lions Roar toward the Football World Cup 2026
Will the FA be willing to offer him an extension when performances decline, or is short-term shape going to prevail over longer term thinking.  And above all else, can he convert good performances into tournament success.  Tuchel’s dedication is a welcome sign for England supporters who have hoped for so long for stability and direction.
His CV speaks for itself, and if he keeps putting together a fine, cohesive team that comes good on the grandest of stages, his era could be the start of a new golden age for the Three Lions. With 2026 ever closer, the countdown begins to the World Cup, but beyond that, Tuchel’s alleged role in Euro 2028 gives us a mouth-watering possibility.
For the moment, all eyes will be on England’s progress in their qualifiers. But under a manager of Tuchel’s experience and personality, England’s future starts to look brighter and brighter, even beyond the shores of North America in 2026.

Nobel prize winner Olga Tokarczuk: ‘We live with violence and misogyny like some sort of constant illness’ | Olga Tokarczuk | The Guardian
Books interview / Interview
Nobel prize winner Olga Tokarczuk: ‘We live with violence and misogyny like some sort of constant illness’
Anthony Cummins
The Polish author on her new horror novel, the genius of John Cheever and chasing the London of her dreams
Sat 5 Oct 2024 19.00 CEST
Polish author Olga Tokarczuk, 62, was awarded the Nobel prize in literature in 2018, the same year that she won the International Booker for her fragmentary novel Flights, cited by the judges for its “wit and gleeful mischief”. Annie Proulx has compared her to WG Sebald; for the London Review of Books, her 900-page historical epic The Books of Jacob (translated by Jennifer Croft in 2021) stands alongside “the great postmodern meganovels by Pynchon or Perec, Bolaño or García Márquez”. Tokarczuk, via the interpreter Marta Dziurosz, was speaking from Wrocław, Poland about her new novel, The Empusium: A Health Resort Horror Story, set amid creepy goings-on at a sanatorium before the first world war.
Where did this book begin?
The idea occurred to me many years ago but I was deeply engaged in The Books of Jacob and this funny sort of pastiche novel had to wait, even though I often work on different books at the same time and was also writing Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead [2009] on top of everything else. What actually helped The Empusium was the pandemic: after all my travels because of the Nobel, I had the chance to return home to my nest in the forests of Lower Silesia.
What led you to base it on Thomas Mann’s 1924 novel The Magic Mountain?
I have a love-hate relationship with that book. I’ve read it five or six times since I was a teenager and every time I read it differently – it grows with the reader. What struck me was my exclusion from the novel as a reader, and a person, from the questions it asked and the answers it gave. It made me realise that when I stood in front of my father’s bookshelves as a girl – at home it was my father who was dealing with books – a huge majority of the classic novels I could see dealt only with issues between men. I think this experience is quite widespread: girls have to confront their own absence in literature. I wrote The Empusium slightly out of anger and spite, I suppose.
At what point did the horror element come in?
I adore horror. But I realised, too, that only the tools of that genre could portray the topic I wanted to portray – the hidden violence, the misogyny that is rife in the entirety of our culture, which we live with like some sort of constant illness, like a predator that is always present and emerges from time to time to attack us.
"My translator says I have a very British sense of humour that isn't picked up on as well in Poland"
Has winning the Nobel prize made a difference to your work?
My first reaction [to the win] was a certain stiffening. The Empusium was therapy: writing is important but it’s also fun and can bring fun, be wild. I intend to remain close to this attitude; I don’t want to get dragged in the direction of prize-giving ceremonies and celebration.
Is it surprising to be your UK publisher’s top seller?
Very, but Antonia Lloyd-Jones [her translator] says I have a very British sense of humour – she says it isn’t picked up on as well in Poland as it is in the UK!
Before becoming an author, you were a psychotherapist. Has that shaped your approach to fiction?
I think so. Therapeutic work opened me to the strangeness of human existence. I learned that each person is a walking book – and to listen without focusing on the story that was going on in my own head.
You also lived in the UK for a while. What do you recall about that?
It was 1987. I’d just finished university and came to London to learn English and work a little bit, as so many Polish people did. I worked at a hotel at the back of Harrods. I lived on Fulham Road and went to Camden Town with a very international [crowd] to drink wine. Coming from communist Poland, this world was a huge shock – seeing the incredibly well-stocked bookshops and record shops was like taking an elevator directly to the seventh floor. I’ve visited London many times in the past 10 years; I’ve searched for that 80s London, which still appears in my dreams, but I’ve been unable to find it.
Do you have a favourite horror author?
I find modern horror quite cliche-ridden. I like horror from the late 19th and early 20th century: Edgar Allan Poe, the stories of the poet Gérard de Nerval, Dostoevsky, who wrote wonderful smaller works of horror. In Poland, we had Stefan Grabiński, a magnificent interwar writer who marries old-fashioned horror with the machinery of industrial society. If you like horror, I recommend a short story by Dino Buzzati, Seven Floors [1954], which is absolutely terrifying.
What have you been reading lately?
This autumn I’ve been gathering short stories. I’ve returned to Chekhov via George Saunders’s A Swim in a Pond in the Rain. And John Cheever’s stories are absolutely genius; I was sorry when I finished reading the book, a feeling I haven’t had in a while.
Do you have a new project?
Yes, a very big novel I promised myself I’d write years ago: a sort of homage to people from Lower Silesia, this amazing area in central Europe which has been completely depopulated and then repopulated. It’s very dear to me, because I’m one of those people myself. Formally, the book is similar to Flights, but its panoptic vision requires a huge amount of intellectual effort and I feel very tired.
Name something you need in order to write.
Basic calm to hear the dialogue in my head. I’m incredibly happy when I’m thinking and writing; it’s a wonderful defence mechanism that I’ve developed against the trials of everyday life. But the story I’m writing now might be my last huge book, because I’ve been having horrible problems with my spine. My body says: “Tokarczuk, this position you’re in when you’re writing isn’t for you any more – you should retire.” And I think that’s what I’m going to do.
The Empusium: A Health Resort Horror Story, translated by Antonia Lloyd-Jones, is published by Fitzcarraldo Editions (£12.99). To support the Guardian and Observer order your copy at guardianbookshop.com.

Professor Cryptid Wet Cat
Look, Professor Gadling being a secret immortal cryptid has already reached peak meme status. The Gdoc is a rabbit hole to get lost in on a rainy day.
But Professor Murphy? Hooo boy. The students are just getting started.
Nobody calls Professor Murphy by his given name of "Thomas." Like, you could try, but he's not going to respond to you, as if the name was just something tacked on for the sake of appearances.
One of the class overheard Professor G calling Professor Murphy "Dream." Now, everyone initially thought that it was just another adorable pet name (there's a running list of them in the Gdoc). But then another student who had been getting drinks at the New Inn had overheard this sweet little boy calling him "Uncle Dream." Go figure.
Here's the thing, though, "Murphy" is an Irish name but there isn't a trace of the Gaelic's music in his accent, proper RP that it normally is. Unless you're an Irish student and suddenly, there's the lilt and the sweetness of the Goídelc in his voice when he talks to you, echoes of the tales of the Children of Lir and Cu Chulainn, best heard as the bards sung them.
The language thing doesn't stop there. Professor Murphy seems to inexplicably know every language ever spoken, happily chatting away in a mix of Tagalog and English with the Filipino students, Welsh with the kids from Wales, French and Italian and Polish and Russian and Swahili and Igbo - circumnavigating the globe as neatly as you please without losing any stride. And then, going back in time, as it were, straight to Middle English.
6. Middle English, as everyone knew, was the language Professor Gadling tended to slip into from time to time and there was something unbearably sweet about how Professor G would refer to his husband as myne owne hertis rote, only for Professor Murphy to answer with my heart's gleam and that lovely little smile. But one hadn't lived until they heard both Professors absently talk to each other in Middle English as if they'd been born speaking that language and had temporarily forgotten that they were already in the 21st century.
7. Suspicions about Professor Murphy being a vampire abounded, until they had all seen him walking in sunlight, with Matthew the Raven on his shoulder. Then it became rumors about Murphy being a Twilight-variant of vampire because he literally glowed in the sun. And had so obviously sent poor Professor Gadling dot exe crashing at the sight.
8. This conversation also happened:
"Who is Edward Cullen and why would he sparkle? And why would all of you be Bella Swan?"
All of the students look at each other. And then:
"I will fong the first person who explains Twilight to poor Professor Murphy, I swear to Christ, I will fong you."
"Perhaps I should ask Matthew."
"Caw! Nevermore!"
9. One of Professor Gadling's classes had taken a trip to the Tower of London and Professor Murphy had just tagged along, much to his husband's delight. Every. Single. Raven. from the Tower had just converged on Murphy as if he were their long lost King or something, cuddling close, cawing in delight. Matthew was so obviously, adorably jealous at the whole thing and somebody could've sworn they heard a distinctly American voice holler: "HEY CLAWS OFF YOU ASSHOLES. GET YOUR OWN DREAM KING!"
10. Sometimes, the students could swear up and down that Matthew the Raven could really, truly, talk. Professor Murphy and his raven have often been seen sitting together, often with Murphy apparently showing the bird something on his smart phone or tablet, deep in discussion with him. Everyone tried very hard not to think about this too deeply, especially since Murphy would often return to the classroom with a better understanding of current jokes and memes once he'd had a "conversation" with Matthew.
11.
"Darling, why do you have a plushie of .... good lord, is this Cthulhu?"
"A gift from my students, my love. We had a rather engrossing lecture on Lovecraft the other day."
"Oh. Oh no. Don't tell me you had the same sort of thing going with him as you did with bloody Shaxbert!"
A huff. "Certainly not. Such a small-minded young man, utterly arrogant - though he did have potential. I thought to teach him a lesson by showing him how insignificant he truly was in the infinite vastness of the universe. His mind almost broke from it."
"Ah. And where does Cthulhu come into this?"
"Lovecraft had a horror of marine creatures, specifically those of the class Cephalopoda. I often took the form of this creature in my nightmare aspect. The wings were an inspired touch, I believe. He was near out of his mind with terror - some of my finest work."
"Of course you were bloody Cthulhu, why am I not surprised? My adorable little eldritch abomination..."
"Hob Gadling, there is nothing adorable about me -- a;dkjf;adlkfja;dlkf!"
12. Rose Walker's first novel Into the Night was a best seller and readers everywhere rejoiced when they heard it would become a series. Readers also fell in love with the enigmatic King of Dreams, the antagonist in Ms. Walker's book. Thus, the second novel in the series, The Prince of Stories, was eagerly awaited by many. Once again, the same mysterious voice actor did the audiobook, which quickly climbed to the top of the charts in all the platforms of its release. But what drove Professor Murphy's students into a tizzy was Ms. Walker's dedication: "For Uncle Dream, our Prince of Stories" and the following exchange:
"Professor Murphy, we didn't know you were a fan of Rose Walker."
A proud smile. "My niece has quite the story to tell. I've been looking forward to reading her next book."
"You're Rose Walker's Uncle Dream?!"
-end-
Am I writing more of what I started in this POST - yes, yes, I am.
Do you guys want to see a more complete version of the first story? It's in AO3.

SLASHERS FIRST TIME HEARING A FRENCH ACCENT :
The Sinclair brothers, Jason, Micheal, Bubba and Thomas.
Tumblr media
Lester :
Instant glitter in his eyes as you spoke. Stuck with your friends in the middle of nowhere, you didn't hesitate to ask for the road cleaner some help. A smile on your face, you asked him the way to the nearest city to find a mechanic. The way you struggled to say that word : "mechanic" was really cute. Speak to him some more, he may fall in love right here and now.
Vincent :
He was coming to kill you from behind when he first heard your voice. At first, he was spying on you and your friends who happened to stop by Ambrose after a little incident with your car. At first, he was too far to hear your voice but now, he could perfectly hear your adorable accent as you were complimenting one of his wax figures, a beautiful blue bird. Congratulations, you caught his interest.
Bo :
Needing a fan belt to go back on the road, you had to stop by the only mechanic of this small town. Yet, you didn't even know what the thing you need was called in English and the mechanic happened to be the hottest man you ever saw. The struggle was multiplied by ten. He won't admit it but you picked his attention so you won't die first. If you're as cute as your accent is, maybe you'll survive.
Jason :
Working at Camp Crystal Lake even with all the rumors part, Jason noticed you from afar. Watching you more than all of his next victims, he couldn't get enough of the sound of your voice. You were the first French person he ever met and your accent was so pretty to him. For sure, he won't kill you. Yet, he'll try to keep you with him just so he can listen to your voice everyday.
Micheal Myers :
This is clearly the reason you're still alive and can stay next to him. The two of you would met at Smith's Grove Sanitarium and to be honest, you truly were the only one he could listen to without ever getting bored. If anyone dared to interrupt your talking, he would go feral on him, showing this person how to have some respect. Then, he would just sat back without saying a word, just tilting his head in your direction, meaning : “So, what were you saying?”
Bubba :
My oh my, you immediately picked his interested. You two would met after you happen to get lost in the middle of texas. Your car totally dry, you would stop to ask for any help at the only house you found : his family's. You could just have said an “Hello” that he would be persuaded that you were an angel. Stars in his eyes, he would giggle happily, wanting you to speak again. If anyone dare to laugh at you for how your voice sound, how you can struggle to say some words, it's time to get the chainsaw on. Family or trespassers, they better run fast.
Thomas :
New secretary at the slaughterhouse he was working, you went to entroduce yourself to everyone, wanting to be friendly. He would immediately melt at the sound of your voice, a smile growing under his mask. Just like Bubba, if anyone would dare to mock you, because of your accent, you would be able to hear the sound of the bones of his whole face breaking under Thomas' fist.
