The early morning sun is just starting to warm the backyard pool at the Alpha Papa Rho (APR) house on the University of Texas campus. Soft chatter and the clinking of ice in pitchers of lemonade drift through the air. It’s APR’s Annual Pool Day, a tradition where the fraternity’s pregnant members are treated to a day of pampering and relaxation—no small feat in a world where male pregnancy is both celebrated and hard work.

Inside the house, Jake Gutierrez, APR’s social chair, is going over last-minute details. He’s at six months himself, cradling a distinctly visible belly under his loose-fitting tank top. He’s already panting slightly from the hustle of organizing, but his eyes light up when he sees a group of pregnant brothers slowly make their way out onto the pool deck. Each is sporting swim trunks, some with an undone button at the top to accommodate their bumps. They exchange excited greetings, grateful for a break from finals-week chaos.

Cameron Smith, who’s nearly eight months along, lowers himself into a lounger with a relieved sigh. Nearby, Malik Robinson—leaning back on another chair—chuckles about how he’s never been so grateful for a day off from classes. “I swear, if I have to waddle across campus one more time, I’ll camp out in my lecture hall,” he jokes, resting both hands on his belly.

A handful of fraternities from across campus start arriving, each group bringing their own “spa station” in a friendly competition to outdo the others’ hospitality. The men of Kappa Theta roll up with a set of portable massage tables, determined to provide soothing back and foot massages for the APR dads-to-be. Meanwhile, the Omega Delta Nu brothers set up a mini fruit-smoothie bar under a bright canopy, offering fresh blends to keep everyone hydrated in the Texas heat.

Soon, the poolside transforms into a laid-back festival. A speaker plays a soft soundtrack of summer tunes, and there’s laughter when Zach Coleman tries to sip from his smoothie while lying on a lounger, nearly spilling it over his belly. “Dude, watch the baby!” jokes Hunter Evans, who’s only four months along and still marvels at how quickly some of his fraternity brothers have grown.

The massages begin in earnest about an hour in. The Kappa Theta guys respectfully ask each pregnant brother about pressure preferences. Cameron’s relief is palpable as he finally gets the knots in his lower back worked out. “I might not leave this table,” he half-murmurs, half-laughs. Over in the next station, belly rubs are offered—some find it silly at first but end up loving the gentle circular motions that ease pressure and make them feel cared for.

Throughout the day, people drift between stations: foot rubs, gentle shoulder massages, or simply floating in the pool to take the weight off tired feet. Between breaks, Jake hustles to ensure fresh towels are on hand, pausing to catch his breath whenever his baby gives a firm little kick.

By late afternoon, the pregnant brothers are dozing contentedly under umbrellas, bellies full of fruit smoothies and minds free of deadlines. Polaroid snapshots of the event are pinned to a corkboard near the refreshments: a gallery of glowing faces, rounded stomachs, and wide smiles. As the sun begins its slow descent, the visiting fraternities pack up, exchanging high-fives and promises to return next year.

The Israeli army is likely to carry out a fresh massacre in the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Lahia, initiating a new round of forced evacuation orders against its estimated 50,000 citizens who remained in the area. The UN and other international parties need to take immediate action to protect Palestinian civilians. After declaring the town of Beit Lahia to be a "dangerous combat zone" and threatening to "act with extreme force," the Israeli army started to launch heavy air and artillery attacks on the town, followed by fresh evacuation orders. The Israeli army set up shelters for the town of Beit Lahia's residents to evacuate towards known shelters in blocks number 1770, 1766, but these were originally destroyed areas that are unfit for any form of life and lack water supply as well as functioning sewage systems. The two designated evacuation points are unsafe areas and, like all areas of the town of Beit Lahia in particular, and the northern Gaza Strip in general, have previously been subjected to widespread destruction, including shelter centres and public facilities, as a result of the ongoing Israeli military attack since October 7. In light of the ongoing crimes of genocide and forced displacement policy in the Gaza Strip, every area designated by the Israeli army as a military operation area is completely destroyed, subjected to a strict and oppressive siege, and horrifically massacred, as the remaining residents have nowhere safe to flee. In the absence of strong international accountability mechanisms and any swift international action to put an end to these crimes, which have been going on for six months, the military operation that the Israeli army launched in the town of Beit Lahia will result in more serious crimes and violations of international humanitarian law and international human rights law. The town of Beit Lahia was the scene of multiple large-scale military operations by the Israeli army during the previous seven months of its military assault on the Gaza Strip. One such operation occurred at the end of December last year, which resulted in extensive damage to homes, infrastructure, and civil and service facilities, with the town's buildings and infrastructure being destroyed to the tune of approximately 90%. Progress Checkup! (Apr. 2025) | Scratchin' Melodii Devlog

Hey there! I felt like it was time for another devlog, it's been a little longer than usual I think. I felt it was less of a priority since I'd just shown off a gameplay preview, so my deepest apologies to all 7 dedicated devlog readers...

First off, in case you missed it, Lucid Mode was shown off in a recent gameplay preview of Stir & Mix!

During stages, freestyling well enough on two consecutive lines will allow you to ascend into Lucid Mode, a state where there are no charts or suggestions to follow, just your own freestyles! Successfully completing the stage in Lucid will give you a special ending scene and an emblem on your rank as lasting proof of your success.

To answer a few questions about it I've seen floating around:

Q: Does this mean the other parts of the song are gone? A: No, going Lucid is something that only happens if you manage to activate it yourself. Otherwise, the song continues as normal.

Q: Can it be disabled? A: Yep, if you're like really good at freestyling but still don't wanna ascend into Lucid, there will be a toggle in the Options menu to enable/disable the ability for it to activate.

Q: Can this happen in every stage? A: Probably! That's the plan, unless I find a rare reason it wouldn't work well for one.

In the preview, you can also see that Stir & Mix itself has been updated a bit in the vocal and artwork departments! Compared to the 2023 beta version's vocals, 2cada tuned them with a bit more stylization this time. In terms of artwork, the animations were redone in my current art style, as another step towards a consistent art style by release. In the process, I was able to make the animations much more fluid and expressive!

Little fun fact about that, Jamtine's hair actually used to cover up more of her eyes/eyebrows as if they were bangs of some sort, but I eventually moved it out the way so I could have more freedom with her expressions, which I found important for a character like her. An inverse of that philosophy would be Nami, who has her sunglasses and bangs cover up her eyes/eyebrows to give her a more mysterious feel. It's hard to tell what's going on in Nami's head! (If anything at all!)

Now, let's talk about the gameplay and UI again. Here's a little quickfire of some changes I've made: 

The Next Line Tab has a "NEXT" text sign above it and will stay at the end of the Player's line to help with clarity

 The background bar of each line now adjusts to the line's length to also help with visual clarity

When points are gained or deducted, it now briefly flashes over the score counter instead of having a separate bubble

Holding the button on pow notes instead of tapping them will accumulate extra points until you either release it or reach the max amount. The more buttons you manage to hold at once, the more points you'll get!

Landing notes on the later end of a beat marker without being off-beat can count as swing rhythm, adding extra points.

To account for the new score system and its balancing, you won't need the Perfect Bonus to be eligible for an S-rank anymore

Overall, I'd say the new rhythm/scoring system is much more consistent, balanced, forgiving, and accurate to the game's inspirations compared to how it was in the beta demos.

As for future stuff I'm working on, I've been animating the Boss battle for Act 2. Not much I can really say about it atm, but the song's going for an electro-funk style. Pretty happy with how it's been turning out so far!

I've also been redesigning the stage select screen to be easier to navigate and easier for me add more stages and acts to it. This one's able to just pull the needed information from each song/act and arrange it all accordingly instead of me having to manually do it each time I add something. It's still very much a work in progress, but it's functional! I haven't gotten to drawing McWave's new icons yet... (Don't look too deep into the number of acts here btw, it just stops at 3 because that's as far as I've indexed it at the moment!)

I've also started working on a redesign for the results screen. Since the new scoring doesn't have equal spaces between the rank requirements, I decided to replace the linear rank meter with a more dial-like one that goes through a cycle per each rank threshold you pass. Along with it, I'll have to finally make new results screen animations for Melodii at some point. Not sure yet if the pose Melodii's doing in this concept sketch will be what I end up using, but I definitely will be letting them aura farm more.

To save the most boring for last, optimization. For the notes in stages, I've started using a method called "Object Pooling". (Which I actually hadn't heard of until recently.) Basically, note objects get recycled now when possible​ instead of created/destroyed, which helps reduce memory usage. For materials, I've managed to up performance by using Texture Arrays and a pretty convoluted shader trick where I put the vertices of UV layers at specific coordinates, which are then decoded to be used as material info. (e.g. color, spec, emission) That way, more meshes can share materials while looking different instead of loading in separate ones. Not really sure how common this is, as I couldn't find much info on it, but it seems to be working pretty well so far! I was also able to cut performance costs in some areas by taking a screenshot of a background model and having the game render a flat image instead of the entire model. This works pretty well for shots where large background models are far away or when the camera angle stays static.

Warriors sighs, running a hand over his face in frustration because of high society's conformities and the annoying nobles. Fake smiles, poison-drenched words, and wavering loyalties amongst the nobility had always drained him.

But as he reaches your door, a smile can't help but tug on his lips, the exhaustion in his bones evaporating at the thought of spending time with you.

He forgoes knocking, knowing that you are in your quarters and won't mind his presence. His steps are quiet and the soft smell of jasmine your room is encompassed in hits his nose in an almost wanton and sensual way that reminds him of silk and rouge.

The very same silk draped against your smooth skin and the rouge he noticed you'd sometimes apply to your kissable lips.

Warriors ignores his straying thoughts as he reaches the archway that leads to your room, silken threads tangling and hanging from the arch and his breathing nearly halts at the sight before him.

Sitting atop a creamy white vanity stool, there you were, clothed only in a silken robe, soft and smooth legs on display for Warriors.

He had never seen you in such little clothing—skin exposed for his vivid cerulean eyes to feast on—forcing Warriors to lose himself to the burning inferno within his mind.

Goddesses, how he wishes he could embrace you with no barriers of clothing in between, feeling your heartbeat hammer against his chest in a raw, wanton way.

He longed to have your legs wrapped tightly around his waist, hips swaying in a sinful, lust-filled dance as he kisses and bites your saccharine lips so much your lips would blush as if you had freshly applied rouge. You'd sing sweet nothings and praises, whines and whimpers tumbling from your kiss-bitten lips from how good he'd make you feel-

Warriors' body starts to warm up, a blistering heat he could only recognize as desire flaring beneath his skin as his eyes follow and trace your every move.

Removing the hairpin that tucked your hair neatly, your h/c locks fall over your shoulders and down your back in soft waves. His hand twitches at the urge to thread his fingers through your hair before pulling gently, hoping to elicit a sound that would only feed the raging fire of want simmering within him.

Warriors closes his eyes as a means to keep the bubbling of his yearning from spilling over before he opens them once more. A grunt nearly tumbles from his lips as you gently and carefully slip your robe off your shoulders, movements slow and teasing.

You run a delicate hand through your locks before swiping your hair over your shoulder and he can't help but let out a barely audible groan tumble from his lips. It becomes apparent how much he desires you, his groan borderline sounding agonized at the sight of your bare back your silk slip dress presents to him.

The skin of your back looks so smooth and so soft and the need of bruising your hips and love handles with marks of his hands having a tight grip on the flesh of your waist becomes prevalent, growing stronger with every passing second.

The skin of your shoulders tempt him to dig his teeth into your sweet skin to leave hues of red and purple that'd stain your skin for weeks, letting the world know who you belonged to before he'd move his lips to your ear, whispering sweet nothings and the sinful things he'd do to you-

He silently groans at the rush of blood flowing through his body—goddesses was he screwed.

Just the mere sight of your bare legs and shoulders could get him going. Just a glimpse of bare skin from any part of your body can and will kill him.

You'll be the death of him. Warriors swallows thickly, eyes squeezing shut before a quiet sigh leaves his lips and he makes the decision to leave.

He turns and his body suddenly freezes, shuddering as you call out his name softly, your voice ever so soft and filled with an apparent wanton need that sent off a chain reaction within his body, want blooming into full-blown desire and lust.

It's silent and it feels like an eternity to Warriors before you murmur his name again, voice teasing and smooth as the obvious want dripping from your honeyed call of his name coaxes him into turning around.

Warriors' vivid cerulean eyes meet yours in the mirror sitting atop your vanity and his heart nearly stops, The fires of want and desire for you blazing strongly as your e/c look into his, mirroring the same carnal desire he's sure is apparent in his own eyes.

The air between you fills quickly with tension as you smile softly—teasing even—and it evokes a heated reaction from the man that he could no longer ignore and hold back.

Warriors’ legs bring him closer to you in long strides before you're encased in his strong arms, lips moving hurriedly against each other’s in desperation overflowing with a love-filled yearning and raw desire.

Paul: It was half-written with Ringo in mind actually. He asked me to write him a tune and there was that one and another one. In the end, I told him I was nicking it and he could have the other one. I just got this idea for a song about someone knocking on the door, someone ringing the bell, and then in the middle, I got into the idea of naming people, just sort of symbolic of a crowd coming in… Sister Suzie, Brother John. Who’s Brother John?

Peacock: I was wondering…

Paul: Whoever you want it to be really, Uncle Ernie? Keith Moon flashing, I suppose, but the trouble with talking about things like that is .. that’s you’ve got to make an excuse for it all after. Someone says, “What did you mean by that?” And really I don’t know. It just comes into your head. Brother Michael — that’s obvious — that’s my brother Michael! Auntie Jin — I’ve got an Auntie Jin, Brother John — that could be whoever you want.

Peacock: Do you get fun out of the thought that people are going to sit down trying to work out the meaning behind lyrics like that?

Paul: It would be great if I wasn’t the ultimate authority on it. It would be just like “Match of the Day” watching them all go around delving into who the Walrus or Brother John is. I mean, to me Brother John is John Lennon, or Linda’s got a brother called John. I suppose it’s anyone’s brother John, but to me, it’s John Lennon. But not in any weird way. It just came out like that. So rather than hide it or change it, I left it. But now, they’re going to ask me. That’s the only problem, that’s the reason it’s not so much fun as it could be because there’s always someone coming up saying “What did you mean by…” or “Linda is Venus, you’re Mars — right?” Wrong, they’re planets, remember?

Peacock: Do you ever take things out because they might be misinterpreted?

Paul: No, I don’t think I ever do that, because normally when it’s writ itself then it’s writ. I don’t really much around with it too much. It’s like most things — you do a painting and think it’s not quite right so you do it again and it’s worse. Like a record — you can go on beyond the right take, but it’s never better. No, I don’t take things out for that reason, in fact, I’d leave things in because people were going to talk about them.
