Meet Sabrina, one of our incoming students who we cannot WAIT to welcome to the APUG fam this Fall! 💜 "I was panicking the whole day leading up to the time of decisions. When I got the email, I asked my mom to read it to me as I sat on the carpet. I was super nervous and to be totally honest, I did not expect to get in!! When my mom read me the letter I immediately started to cry!!! My throat closed up and I couldn't speak for a couple minutes. I just felt pure shock and happiness.”✨

Tiffany Lin
First-Year, Applied Psychology
In the award-winning movie of your life, who would play you and why?
“Princess Jasmine! She is unique, brave, curious, independent, and intelligent. She is willing to step out of her comfort zone, to put herself 'out there' and take risks for what she believes is right.”
What were you doing when you found out you got into NYU? What were you feeling?
“My mood literally went like a roller coaster that day. I was actually having a small argument with my mom that night, and I woke up grievously the next morning. On my way to school, I received an email from NYU. I panicked, thinking that if I got rejected, my mom would be even more disappointed--my heart was beating hard like never before. I opened the letter and couldn’t believe that I got in! I immediately shared my excitement with my family and friends. Then I bought Taiwanese bubble tea for them, celebrating this special day together. My jubilation continued for the rest of the day; I couldn’t even focus on my two AP exams in the afternoon!”
What are you most excited for about APUG & NYU?
“The interdisciplinary programs offered by the Steinhardt campus will give me an opportunity to explore how I can use my passion for psychology to make a difference in the world. APUG also offers a unique combination of specialized course offerings and the option to engage in community or research experience. Plus, NYU offers many unique study abroad opportunities. My passion for exploring various cultures will allow me to broaden my worldview; I believe NYU would be the best place to accomplish my goals!”

What were you doing when you found out you got into NYU? What were you feeling?
"I applied Early Decision II and was in Drama Club for rehearsal. It was Valentine's Day and I was anxiously watching the clock and refreshing pages. I called my nana and my parents, I was so happy (and relieved).”

Yukki Qiu
First-Year, Applied Psychology
In the award-winning movie of your life, who would play you and why?
“I think I’d want any movie about my life to be a cartoon rather than a live-action thing...it would be so much weirder to see another human being play me?? But also, I have zero knowledge about voice actors so I have no idea who I’d pick (apologies!!).”
What were you doing when you found out you got into NYU? What were you feeling?
"I was sitting in the dining hall for dinner with my friends. I was so nervous I almost wanted to throw up, but initially, I wanted to pile up all my decisions until the last one came out so I could open them all at once. But I gave in to the temptation and opened the NYU one 15 minutes after I got it. It was such a relief when I found out I got in. I literally grabbed my other friend who had gotten into NYU on ED and started screaming.”
What are you most excited for about APUG & NYU?
"I’m excited to learn more about a subject I’ve always been interested in APUG, and also excited for any practical experiences I might gain in the program! As for NYU - I’m super hyped to be living in NYC. It’s like an improved version of home (HK) for me. I can’t wait to waste all my money away watching Broadway shows.”

Ivan Brea
First-Year, Applied Psychology
In the award-winning movie of your life, who would play you and why?
"Timothée Chalamet due to the fact that I think he would be able to portray my chaotic life in a fun-filled yet sentimental manner.”
What were you doing when you found out you got into NYU? What were you feeling?
"I was in my 7th Period Honors Physics Class anxiously waiting for it to be 2 P.M. while trying my hardest to pay attention to the review lecture. With everybody knowing about my passion for NYU it was inevitable that when 2 P.M. came around I found myself with a sea of classmates staring into my phone. My heart started racing, my forehead started sweating, and when I saw the word "congratulations", all I could do was let out a high-pitched scream. I was so lucky to be surrounded by close friends and classmates who supported me not only during that moment but throughout the entire application process. I immediately called my mom and, needless to say, she was ecstatic. If I could define that moment in one word it would be: action-packed.”
What are you most excited for about APUG & NYU?
"I am most excited about the people of APUG and NYU. I have had the privilege to communicate with both current and incoming APUG and NYU students. Visiting the campus during my Sophomore year very much instilled this excitement. To immerse myself, if but for a moment, in a community so various in its nature where no matter the place of origin, every student I spoke to demonstrated so much talent and intellect. NYU is a mosaic of culture and I seek to be a part of it all.”

Hawa Nasiri
First-Year, Applied Psychology
In the award-winning movie of your life, who would play you and why?
"I would play Lady Bird in the movie ‘Lady Bird’ because this character's life is extremely similar to mine. Lady Bird must decide between attending a university on the East Coast against her mother's will or a local university to please her family. Similarly being from the West coast the idea of attending NYU was not popular among my family. As well the curiosity Lady Bird has and independence is characteristics I see in myself.”
What were you doing when you found out you got into NYU? What were you feeling?
"I found out I got into NYU during my study hall period at my high school. I was too nervous to see my admission status so I had my best friends check my portal and when they told me I was admitted I was so excited and in disbelief that I was admitted into my dream school.”
What are you most excited for about APUG & NYU?
"I am extremely excited to learn about the social and cultural connections within Psychology and I am so excited about the endless opportunities of internships and cultural experiences within New York City.”

What are you most excited for about APUG & NYU?
"I’m so excited to study what I’m passionate about in such a diverse environment. I can’t wait to learn from the amazing people who surround me and to give back to that same community.”
