i think the reason these 'soft reveals' work so great because because in a darker universe, a universe made in darkseid's image, you expect things to be things to be the worst, the most miserable they could possibly be.

and yet, its in this universe that bruce and kal get to experience life with their parents.

even diana, taken from her mother and sisters as a baby and cast into literal hell, finds the love of a mother there.

despite everything, they experienced that love. despite everything, there's hope.

So I’ve been really getting into the DC absolute universe and been loving it, but there’s a small thing that annoys me.

Every now I then I see a SuperBat fan who clearly only seen the new designs and a couple of panels who try to write absolute SuperBat by simply choosing whether they prefer the batbrick to be breedable or not and just superimpose the normal SuperBat relationship on top and like it just doesn’t work.

Absolute Batman is not mainline Batman but more violent. Absolute Superman isn’t just mainline superman with an emo cut.

Absolute Bruce have a living mother, he has friends, he probably got student loans. His training was taking half a year to ride across the US and do a bunch of unpaid internships in Gotham. Yes he’s 6’7” (7ft with the bat ears) but he’s also a mothers boy who was fed 3 square meals a day (Sorry mainline Alfred but Absolute Martha Wayne had a whole community helping her make sure her boy ate).

Absolute superman is have a terrible time. He’s less upbeat and happy. His life been struggle and he’s way more jaded. Yes he’s still good and wants to be good, but he’s not the Boy Scout. He’s sad and angry and trying his best for that not to consume him. Kal just want to belong and the world is kicking his face for it.

I just really love the absolute universe and like reading fanfic in the world and get disappointed when it obvious the author haven’t read any of the comics.

Absolute Batman #10

I get a little more in depth than usual for Absolute Batman #10, but then so did the creative team.

This tenth installment of Absolute Batman is incredibly dense. It is packed with easter eggs and and gives us character developments both subtle and extreme. We learn Bane's deal and discover that Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta have never seen somebody fight against post surgery weight loss. I want to get excited about all the easter eggs, but to me that read like a list of things we WONT be seeing in this story. I hope I'm wrong and we get a cool Ivy plotline, but I think that all the lab cameos will remain as easter eggs.

I believe "The Isley Ecosystem" and "The Langstrom Experiment" imply that Kurt and Pam are scientists conducting their experiments FOR Arkham ON prisoners, and that they are not mutated themselves.

I'm interested in what we learn about Bane in this one. Bane likes breaking spirits not out of any personal beef or a need to overcome the bat from his nightmares, but more out of a sense of cruel satisfaction he seems to get from the domination and control.

Bane is "The Prime". What does the prime mean? Based on some word choices and the green lines on Bruce's back, I think Bane is the "patient zero" for a chance at super-soldiers that they are trying to replicate. Those green lines on Bruce's back mirror the venom tubes.

Bane has clearly been through this same ringer, he was an experiment and he believes he emerged unbroken. The thread he hangs by is the idea that nobody else could endure it, so he takes it upon himself to spare the others the suffering to come, (actually to ensure nobody can prove him wrong) classic TV serial killer motivations.

Spread appreciation. This would make a good cover for the second TPB

Speaking of art...

I like the techno-organic evocativeness of this panel, the piping and technological infrastructure look like bane's arm, as Bruce tries to escape the reach of Bane's grasp running down the length of it, no less monstrous and looming than the real thing. monstrous......

Okay, Lets talk about Waylon.

I have a lot of problems with what they did to Croc, foremost being that this is a signed death warrant. He can't stay in the story like this, he's gonna die.

Likely, what happened to Waylon will be the event that finalizes the Rogues turning against Bruce. Waylon will die and Bruce will bear the blame.

The Gotham rogues are going to become enemies of the bat because his crusade they tried to stop got two of their friends killed.
