Tumblr media
Holiday rentals in Northern Beaches provide a convenient and comfortable way for visitors to experience Sydney’s iconic coastline. Stretching from Manly to Palm Beach, the Northern Beaches region offers a mix of urban convenience and natural beauty, attracting both local weekenders and international tourists. Whether you're seeking a surfside apartment, a family-friendly villa, or a secluded beach house, the variety of available holiday accommodations ensures something to suit every preference and budget.
What Types of Holiday Rentals Are Available?
The Northern Beaches offer a broad selection of holiday rentals to match different travel needs:
Apartment Stays in Manly and Dee Why : Ideal for solo travellers or couples, offering easy access to restaurants, shops, and public transport.
Family-Friendly Homes in Narrabeen and Mona Vale : Spacious layouts with kitchens, outdoor areas, and multiple bedrooms for extended stays.
Beachfront Villas in Palm Beach : High-end properties with ocean views, private decks, and luxury fittings for exclusive experiences.
Pet-Friendly Accommodations: Available in certain locations, allowing pet owners to bring their animals along for the trip.
Budget-Friendly Units in Collaroy and North Narrabein : Affordable yet well-maintained rentals perfect for short visits or group bookings.
Each category caters to different visitor profiles and length of stay.
How Do Holiday Rentals Compare to Hotels?
Holiday rentals in Northern Beaches offer distinct advantages over traditional hotel stays:
More Space and Privacy : Entire homes provide separate sleeping, dining, and lounging areas, unlike hotel room limitations.
Kitchen Facilities : Most rentals include fully equipped kitchens, reducing reliance on dining out and catering to longer stays.
Flexibility in Check-In and Out : Many rentals allow late check-outs or early arrivals if unoccupied.
Unique Local Flair : Owners often decorate properties with coastal themes, adding character and a sense of place.
Cost-Effective for Groups : Renting an entire house is often cheaper per person than booking multiple hotel rooms.
These features make holiday rentals a preferred option for many visitors.
What Should You Look for in a Quality Holiday Rental?
When browsing holiday rentals in Northern Beaches , several factors determine satisfaction:
Location and Proximity to the Beach : Properties close to the coast provide easy access to surf, sand, and sea activities.
Accurate Property Descriptions : Clear photos and honest listings prevent disappointment upon arrival.
Cleanliness and Maintenance Standards : Well-kept interiors and exteriors enhance comfort and safety for guests.
Review Ratings and Host Responsiveness : Positive feedback and prompt communication indicate a reliable host and enjoyable stay.
Amenities Provided : Laundry facilities, Wi-Fi, parking, and air conditioning are common expectations for modern holidaymakers.
These elements contribute to a successful and memorable visit.
How to Book a Holiday Rental in Northern Beaches
There are several platforms and methods for securing a stay:
Online Booking Platforms : Websites like Airbnb, Stayz, and Booking.com allow filtering by location, price, and availability.
Local Real Estate Agencies : Some agencies manage holiday lettings, offering vetted, professionally managed properties.
Private Owner Listings : Classified ads or direct owner contact sometimes offer better rates and more personalised service.
Short-Term Letting Companies : Dedicated holiday letting businesses maintain multiple properties with consistent cleaning and customer support.
Longer-Term Stays for Extended Visits : Some properties accept monthly rentals, ideal for remote workers or those relocating temporarily.
Each method comes with its own pros and cons, influencing convenience and reliability.
What Trends Are Shaping Holiday Rentals?
The holiday rental market in Northern Beaches is evolving with demand:
Contactless Check-Ins : Self-check-in options using digital keys or lock boxes are becoming standard for convenience.
Smart Home Integration : Some properties feature app-controlled lighting, temperature, and security for added comfort.
Sustainability Practices : Eco-friendly rentals with reusable linen, no single-use plastics, and solar power are gaining popularity.
Workation-Friendly Setups : More hosts are including dedicated workspaces, fast internet, and ergonomic setups for remote workers.
Pet-Friendly Listings : Increased availability of rentals that accommodate pets, reflecting shifting consumer preferences.
These trends shape the future of holiday accommodation in the region.
Final Thoughts
Holiday rentals in Northern Beaches offer a flexible, immersive way to enjoy one of Sydney’s most scenic regions. Whether you're staying for a weekend break, a surfing trip, or a work-from-the-beach arrangement, the diversity of available properties ensures a satisfying experience. As travel habits shift toward experiential and independent stays, holiday rentals remain a valuable part of the Northern Beaches tourism landscape, offering comfort, style, and local authenticity.

Travel to Holguin, explore this part of Cuba in 2021.
Tumblr media
Located in the warm Caribbean Sea, the island of Cuba is a major tourist destination, where Havana and Varadero, share almost half of the visitors who arrive each year. However there are other places that stand out, today I will show you how to travel to Holguin and what you will find in 2021. You will discover a region that has everything to satisfy the most diverse tastes: beautiful beaches, excellent hotels, biodiversity, history, culture, safety (childproof), and a friendly and polite population. That magical town is called Holguín, and it is located in the northeastern part of Cuba. Although it does not have the glamour of Havana, the history of Santiago de Cuba, or the exclusivity of the beaches of Varadero and Cayo Largo, little by little it has been positioning itself as the third most important Cuban tourist destination.
Tumblr media
Holguín Boulevard, one of the most popular sites in the city. Photo credit: Manuel de Nacimiento. According to the Statistical Yearbook of Holguín, published by the National Statistics and Information Office (ONEI), a total of 439,464 tourists travelled to Holguin in 2019. Let's close our eyes and take an imaginary journey through the region. This way you can find the answer to the question that gives this article its name. Related link: - Best rated experiences in Holguín - Get Your Guide. Interesting:On January 18, 1752, in the presence of all the neighbors the Marshal Arcos and Moreno made to record in order of date and years indicated that obeying to orders of the King of Spain he gave the title of City to San Isidoro de Holguín, being able to enjoy in front of all the privileges, honors and proper franchises of these institutions.
Travel to Holguin: how to get there
Frank País International Airport is only 10 kilometers from the city, and also has a terminal for domestic flights to Havana and Santiago de Cuba. Built in 1996, it is considered a medium-sized airport, capable of handling a flow of up to 1,000 incoming and outgoing passengers. In 2020, the runway was resurfaced to receive large aircraft. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkhEXpJvJ84 It offers car rental services, cafeterias, travel agencies, medical and currency exchange services, specialized services for the handicapped, duty free stores and VIP lounge. A total of 13 airlines connect Holguín with cities in all continents except Asia and Africa. Among them are: Jet Blue, Air Canada, Arkefly, Belair, Blue Panorama, Condor, Monarch, and Neos. To get to the main city, cabs are readily available at a cost of approximately 15 USD. But if you are a sailor in search of adventure, Holguín offers you the Marina Internacional Puerto de Vita. This port, located only 40 kilometers from the city, has 38 berths and all the necessary amenities. It is also the starting point for catamaran excursions, fishing trips, diving and jet ski rides.
Tumblr media
Loma de la Cruz, in Holguín, is a viewpoint of important tourist interest.
Holguin, the City of Parks
The existence of more than 70 parks in the perimeter of the city has earned it that title and is the first thing you will notice when you travel to Holguin. Although if you ask any Cuban, or a foreigner who knows the city well, he or she will surely tell you that its main distinguishing feature, besides the Loma de la Cruz, is the cleanliness and straightness of its streets. They will also tell you that in spite of the distance that separates it from the capital, its inhabitants are lovers of good art and that they have the privilege of having one of the three Lyric Theaters of Cuba, the famous Rodrigo Prats, one of the best dance companies, Codanza, and the Chamber Ballet of Holguín. So, if you wish to enjoy lyrical singing, contemporary dance or ballet, in Holguín you will not lack options. The presentations take place mainly in the beautiful Eddy Suñol Theater and in the different hotels of the northern coast.
Tumblr media
The city's ancient architecture is one of its greatest charms. However, if your thing is not classic, don't worry, we also have Discotheques, Cabarets, Bars, Cafes and Night Clubs. The city's nights are very lively, especially between Friday and Sunday. Names such as El Nocturno and Bariay, open-air cabarets in the style of the world-famous Tropicana, as well as El Pétalo, Shambalá, El Benny, Pico Cristal, El Siboney, Jazz Club, Piano Bar or Las Tres Lucias, are widely known nationwide. There are cultural events that have acquired international renown: the May Pilgrimages and the Vladimir Malakhov Dance Competition and Grand Prix of the North Atlantic. The Romerías de Mayo is an important traditional popular festival. The Romerías are celebrated at the beginning of May, and although originally a religious festivity, they have become an international Youth Festival. Concerts, street theater, photographic exhibitions and works of art, dance shows, and poetry are continuously happening during a fun week. Moreover, since 2014, the famous Ukrainian dancer Vladimir Malakhov (First Dancer and Director of the Berlin Opera Ballet), has established together with the local dance company Codanza, an International Ballet and Dance Competition that attracts numerous visitors from abroad and from other cities of the island. This year, it will be held in September, albeit virtually due to the presence of COVID 19.
Gastronomy, Habanos and cycle tourism on your travel to Holguin
Tumblr media
Hotel Iberostar Selection is a popular accommodation in Holguín. Gastronomy in Holguin To taste the local flavors, the city has about 30 restaurants that offer delicious dishes of Creole and international cuisine. Prices range from 10 to 20 USD in private establishments. Keep in mind that 1 U.S. dollar is currently traded in the informal market for 50 Cuban pesos.Tweet State-owned establishments are more economical, although they generally have less variety and quality in their offerings. Payment is made in local currency. Based on Tripadvisor surveys, popular opinion, and my personal experience, I have compiled a list of the 10 best restaurants in Holguin in 2020: - Restaurante Bar 1910 - La Pasión - Delicias Cubanas - Ranchón Los Almendros - Maragato - Restaurante Bar Parrillada San José - La Torre - La Bodeguita del Medio - Avilés - Noi Due https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aubiEDB5LPM Habanos Cigars in Holguin Inhaling the smoke of the famous Cuban cigars can be harmful, but it is the ambition of many tourists. In Holguín, it is possible to visit an important cigar factory located in the center of the city. In addition to seeing how they are manufactured, you can also buy them at advantageous prices. There is no shortage of major brands: Cohiba, Romeo y Julieta, Montecristo, Partagás and Hoyo de Monterrey. The factory produces 16 million units annually and uses as raw material the leaves harvested in Pinar del Rio, the mecca of Havana cigars. Related link: - Top 5 experiences in Holguín - Get Your Guide. - What to do in Holguín - Vigorous Ways. Cycling when you travel to Holguin A tourist sport activity that has developed rapidly in the region is bicycle tourism. The well-asphalted road that links Holguín with the seaside resort of Guardalavaca guarantees a safe trip full of beautiful landscapes. The 54 kilometers of mostly straight and flat roads lead to the paradisiacal beaches of the north-eastern coast, famous for their white sands, warm waters and all-inclusive hotels.
Tumblr media
The beautiful Pesquero Beach should be one of the places you cannot miss on your trip to Holguín. The town of Sao Arriba is located just 11 kilometers from the start of the trip. If you are passionate about mountain biking, you will find trails and paths that cross the picturesque region: hills, rivers, caves, pure nature. After traveling the first 30 kilometers, and always turning off to the left side of the road, we will first find Playa Blanca, famous for witnessing the arrival of Admiral Christopher Columbus to Cuba, Don Lino, Vita Bay, Playa Pesquero, Naranjo Bay, and Playa Esmeralda.
Beaches and All Inclusive Hotels in Holguin
If there is something that differentiates hotels in Holguín from those in the rest of the country, it is the quality of service. Professionalism, responsibility and experience are evident as soon as you arrive: speed, command of several foreign languages, friendliness and empathy towards the client. You can choose among the 14 hotels that serve the region's beaches. Four of them are 5-star hotels: Paradisus Rio de Oro (for couples only), Playa Pesquero (the largest hotel in Cuba), the brand-new Iberostar Selection and the recently built Hotel Almirante. The rest are 4 stars except Villa Don Lino with 3 stars.
Tumblr media
Hotel Paradisus Rios de Oro, in Holguin, Cuba. Interesting:With a cost of only 2.00 USD per pax, and three daily frequencies, comfortable buses travel between the different hotels, Guardalavaca, La Aldea Taina, and the Naranjo Bay Dolphinarium. A must visit site is the Aboriginal Cemetery and the Taino Village. There you can discover our pre-Columbian history in a museum located on the remains of an ancient indigenous cemetery. It exhibits 56 of the 180 skeletons found to date. The village recreates the environment of an aboriginal tribe from 5 centuries ago: dwellings, 38 human sculptures, work tools, recreational objects, clothing, etc. Are you bored spending all your time at the hotel? No problem, the different Travel Agencies propose excursions through sales points in each establishment. Don't forget that the province has a total of 17 protected natural areas, including two national parks: Bahía de Naranjo and La Mensura.
Tumblr media
Jeep Safari Adventour is one of the best-selling excursions. These are 10 of the most popular excursions: - Jeep Safari Adventour - Crucero del Sol - Catamarán Gibara - Cayo Saetía en Catamarán - Baño con Delfines en el Acuario Bahía de Naranjo - Cayo Bariay - Aldea Taina - Island Paradise - Ocean Paradise - Jeep Safari Salto del Guayabo. These and other excursions may be available through Get Your Guide, a secure site where you can book quality experiences.
Tumblr media
Although we are discovering the beach hotels, it is worth mentioning that there are three very good hotels in the city, located in old and centrally located buildings that have been very well restored: El Caballeriza, Esmeralda, and El Saratoga. The latter was inaugurated in 2020. Private accommodations are also a good option, but this will be the subject of another article. We hope you already know why it is worth taking as you travel to Holguin‼. Read the full article

14 June
Recognising our slovenliness from yesterday we set the alarm for 0730hr this morning. Dressed, fed, converted and teeth brushed by 0830hr. A quick check of engine fluids looked as if the coolant was low, Jay emptied 1.5 litres of water into the tank before realising he was pouring water into the air-con coolant tank - doh!!! Shutting off that mistake in his mind (probably until the next really hot day!) he topped up radiator water directly into the radiator - much more sensible really! Heading north our destination was Seahouses. The engine turned off at the main Seahouses carpark. A fizzing sound from the bonnet became apparent. Brown water dripped from the engine bay to the tarmac form a lovely warm puddle! The leak seemed to be comin from the very top of the radiator and therefore Jay is hoping that as the level drops we can find a balance between no leak and sufficient fluid to cool the engine - time will tell. Tourist info at Seahouses was, in Cian's words "the best information person ever!". She gave us some top tips and 10% off a family ticket to Bamburgh Castle. Although purchased, this we will save for another day. We have considered a boat trip to the Farne Islands where we would be sure to spot seals and Puffins, amongst other wildlife of course. However the trips are backed up due to the recent bad weather and they're also pricey. Holy Island seemed like a great option. Access is via a tidal causeway which has a window of around 4 hours either side of high water. We had just enough time to get there, and across, before the tide cut us off. We made it with about 15mins to spare. Then we were trapped until the tide went out again at about 1630hr. Mrs Tourist Info Lady had given us plenty to do on Holy island. We hoped to spot Artic Tern (it's become a trip mission) and had already seen an Egret plucking worms from the mud next to the causeway. Lunch was made at the carpark for a picnic later on. Then we went walkabout. The island is really quaint and full of bird life. Cian spotted that a lady had left her binoculars in one of the hides, we couldn't find her anywhere, but didn't want to leave them unattended. We split up and headed in opposite directions trying to catch her - we failed. With everyone on the island stuck there until 1630hr, we thought we had a reasonable chance of spotting her eventually. Our picnic was bathed in sunshine with a view of the fishing boats in the bay and the castle behind us. Though our post lunch route took us past the island's castle we didn't head inside, preferring to check out the maze of lime kilns set in underground vaulted caverns. From one of the apertures we spotted a bird of prey either kestrel or peregrine (our twitching skills are not honed sufficiently yet as the bird remained grounded). Clare returned to the village to use the facilities; Jay, Nia and Cian headed to the northern most point of the island. A beach of artistic stone pillars, willow sculptures of bids, roe deer, eider ducks were all features of our stroll. After reaching the tip of the island (landmarked by a huge white navigational pyramid) we headed back towards the village. Part way there Clare appeared, escorted by Belinda. Belinda had lost her binoculars earlier in the day and Clare had discovered her. Only problem was that they needed to find the other half of the family to reunite object with owner - together they completed their quest! Belinda and binoculars continued towards the dunes and we parted in the opposite direction. Oyster catchers, eider AND our Arctic Tern were spotted on our way back to the harbour. Down in the bay, on the shore, old ship hulls had be cut in half, upturned and were being used as fisherman's sheds. At the highest point of the island we could see the causeway, now uncovered, with vehicles moving across it. The derelict abbey was below us; a reminder of the original inhabitants from around 600AD who were repeatedly dispatched by pillaging Vikings. Wandering down the steep path towards the churchyard the sound of howling dogs filled the air. It took a while before we realised the noise was coming from two sandbanks. Through binoculars we could see hundreds of seals colonising the entire sandbank and all howling! Brilliant to witness and hear. Our time on the island came to an end and we drove back across the causeway, our thoughts wandering about sleeping places for the night (it was almost 1900hr). A final treat from the island came in the form of a Lapwing strutting along the verge; we had to turn around for Cian to get a photo. Just at the main road we stopped for fuel. Adjacent to us was a closed cafe, which also said it was hostel - more importantly it had a pretty big, flat car park. The lady at the service station couldn't give us any info, but there was an American girl trying to get into the hostel. Clare made contact. She was booked in and had called the owner who would be there in five minutes. We waited. Shaun showed up with his thick Geordie accent and told Clare we could stay on the car park for free as long as we bought something from the cafe in the morning! Result. Clare cooked up the boss of all Rogan Josh curries accompanied by naan bread. A cool day!

How to proceed and where you can rest in Skiathos
Tumblr media
While you’ve probably heard about Santorini and Mykonos, you might not have heard of Skiathos. It had been first developed in the 1970s now, its sandy seashores, quaint villages, and lively nightlife make it a favorite destination. And Skiathos hotels take benefit from the stunning landscapes.
If you’ve ever seen a calendar with photos of the Greek Islands, you know that the water here is crystal clear and gorgeous absolutely. The primary town, called Skiathos also, is filled up with cafes, pubs, and advanced shops, along the seafront especially. The red-tiled roofs of the homes here are amazing against the azure blue sky.
Flights can be found from Athens to Skiathos, but a hydrofoil or ferry trip is more scenic. There’s ongoing service from Volos and Ayios Konstandinos. Skiathos is loaded in summer, so avoid July and August when you can.
Skiathos sights - how to proceed
The 13th-century Bourtzi fortress guards the harbor in Skiathos, and you may go to the home of poet Alexandros Papadiamantis. In the 140-year-old house, there’s a little museum. As well as for a memorable tour, have a horse-drawn carriage trip around town.
Once you leave town, you’ll find the majority of the island in its natural state with olive and pine groves, a jagged coastline, and turquoise drinking water. About one hour away, Skiathos Castle rests atop a rocky cliff looking over the northern coastline of the island. Area of the old town wall space and Turkish shower are also in the region.
Two monasteries - Panagia Kounistra and Evangelistria - offer an interesting take a look at spiritual life on the island. Evangelistria has a little collection and a museum with spiritual relics.
Skiathos has more than 60 fabulous seashores, with fine, white fine sand and cool pine forests. Typically the most popular are Banana, Vromolimnos, and Koukounaries, which is one of the very most beautiful seashores in Greece. You can lease sunbeds and umbrellas there.
If you don’t have an automobile and don’t want one, you may take a general public bus or local vessel to plenty of great beaches.
The Skiathos Sea Caves can only just be reached by boat, but they’re fun to explore. As well as the waters around Skiathos are excellent for sailing.
Skiathos hotels - where you can stay

Bourtzi Hotel
Named for the neighborhood fortress, the Bourtzi Hotel is in the heart of town close to the harbor and old town. The pedestrian shopping area nearby is.
Each one of the 38 rooms has air-con, a mini-refrigerator, and a small safe. Many have private terraces or balconies. There are a patio pool and club. This is a great choice for travelers who prefer to maintain the center of the action.
Kassandra Bay Hotel
On the sandy beach that overlooks Vasilias Bay, the five-star Kassandra Bay Hotel is approximately 10 minutes from Skiathos. The hotel is encircled by olive trees and shrubs and pretty landscapes, which will make it feel remote.
With three outdoor swimming pools - two reserved for adults - an exercise center, and a good Greek restaurant, Kassandra Bay is very self-inclusive. Guests here can settle in rather than leave. The hotel has several environmental qualifications, so it’s also an accountable choice.
Magic Hotel
Perched on the hillside above Agia Paraskevi Bay, the Magic Hotel has 36 suites and rooms with large ocean-view balconies. Guests can select from the pool or Platanias Beach, which is 5 minutes away by walking. The restaurant’s terrace is wonderful during the night.

November 5th, 17:00 from Edion Arena, Osaka
Today’s show sees Hiroshi Tanahashi defend his Intercontinental title against Kota Ibushi, Ospreay vs. Scurll for the Junior title, Omega vs. Beretta for the US title and Suzuki vs. Yano for the NEVER title. Oh, and the final of the Super Jr. Tag Tournament. It’s stacked, so let’s get to it.
Here we go…
Pre-show match: David Finlay vs. Katsuya Kitamura
Finlay fought back after receiving a big shoulder block and kept Kitamura at bay with a chinlock and avalanche splash, but the not-so-young lion reversed a suplex and landed a series of chops. Finlay spiked a DDT for a two-count, only for Kitamura to nail a spear in reply, then Finlay flipped out of a suplex to land the Irish Curse backbreaker and followed with a Stunner for the win. Just a match. **
Dragón Lee & Titán vs. The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson)
Dragón Lee and Nick started out with a swift and slick exchange, then Titán blocked the Indytaker and the CMLL boys hit stereo tope con hilos. Stereo corner dropkicks followed, but Nick hit back with a slingshot facebuster and a moonsault from the apron, enabling the tag to his brother. Matt blocked Dragón Lee’s ‘rana and both Bucks applied sharpshooters before punishing Titán with a rope-hung swanton. The Indytaker was blocked once again when Dragón Lee scored a leaping ‘rana to the floor, then Nick tornado DDT’d him onto the apron (ouch) before Titán wiped out the Bucks with a springboard moonsault. The advantage didn’t last, though, and back in the ring the Bucks applied a sharpshooter/crossface combo, forcing Titán to tap. The Bucks, who were not involved in the Super Jr. Tag Tournament and making their first NJPW appearance since August, looked strong and I suspect this won’t be their last involvement today. This was a fun, spot-heavy opener. ***
Hirai Kawato, KUSHIDA, Tiger Mask IV, Jushin Thunder Liger & Juice Robinson vs. Suzuki-gun (TAKA Michinoku, El Desperado, Taichi, Yoshinobu Kanemaru & Zack Sabre Jr.)
Suzuki-gun targeted the masked men first, but Liger fought free to lock Desperado in the Romero Special then tagged in Juice, who was quickly caught in Sabre’s Octopus Hold only to power into a gutbuster. Kushida was in next to score a handspring elbow, but Taka blocked the jumping DDT and Suzuki-gun swarmed. Kushida applied the double-wristlock, but so did Sabre until Kawato flew in with a springboard dropkick. Cue a ring-clearing run of offence, culminating in Kawato’s tope con hilo to Sabre and Kushida earned the tap-out win over Taka with the double-wristlock. Breathless stuff, most enjoyable. **3/4
Satoshi Kojima, Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Togi Makabe vs. Bullet Club (Chase Owens, Yujiro Takahashi & Cody)
Tenzan refused to kiss Cody’s literal Ring of Honor, instead targeting Owens with some signature TenCozy offence, but Bullet Club combined effectively to wear down the veteran. Owens landed some offensively bad Mongolian Chops, but the Mountain Bomb brought in Makabe to run wild with a trio of powerslams and corner clotheslines. Cody blocked a Northern Lights suplex and nailed the Disaster kick, then a lariat put both men down. Kojima and Owens were tagged, and the machine gun chops were flying until Yujiro interjected. Kojima blocked the package piledriver, setting off a parade of signature offence which came to an end when Kojima nailed Owens with a lariat for the three-count. A serviceable match and I was surprised not to see Cody get the win. **
Up next, the final of the Super Jr. Tag Tournament that’s been running at the Road to Power Struggle events. The three Korakuen Hall shows at which these matches took place all drew strongly and the quality was a marked step up from last year. Here’s a breakdown of the brackets:
Quarter Finals
Roppongi 3K (SHO & YOH) defeated KUSHIDA & Hirai Kawato (***3/4)
Los Ingobernables de Japón (BUSHI & Hiromu Takahashi) defeated Dragón Lee & Titán (****1/4)
Suzuki-gun (El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) defeated Tiger Mask IV & Jushin Thunder Liger (***1/4)
Super 69 (ACH & Ryusuke Taguchi) defeated Suzuki-gun (Taichi & TAKA Michinoku) (***)
Semi Finals
Super 69 (ACH and Ryusuke Taguchi) defeated Suzuki-gun (El Desperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) (***3/4)
Roppongi 3K (SHO & YOH) defeated Los Ingobernables de Japón (BUSHI & Hiromu Takahashi) (****1/4)
2017 Super Jr. Tag Tournament Final
Roppongi 3K (SHO & YOH w/ Rocky Romero) vs. Super 69 (ACH and Ryusuke Taguchi)
ACH, who teamed with Taiji Ishimori in 2016, reaches the final for the second year in a row. He and Taguchi battled through two incarnations of Suzuki-gun to get here. Junior tag champions SHO and YOH, meanwhile, continue their impressive return to the company and their manager, Rocky Romero, will be especially pleased to see the Roppongi name once again represented in the final.
Super 69 struck first, with ACH directing traffic as Taguchi wore himself out hitting corner elbows, but the Roppongi boys got it together, both nailing a tope con hilo to take control. ACH was was isolated, with Yoh then Sho targeting his taped midriff with shots and stretches and the punishment continued for several minutes. A nice wristlock Abdominal Stretch was applied, but a frustrated Taguchi’s interference paid off, because finally the hot tag was made. Taguchi ran wild, scoring a tope of him own as well as a springboard hip attack, then he rolled-through into an ankle lock on Sho. The third of Three Amigos was blocked, allowing Sho to apply a guillotine choke, then Yoh was back in only to be cut off by the newly-tagged ACH. The frog splash missed the mark, but ACH scored some big chops until a double knee from Roppongi stopped the rot. Yoh’s out-and-in superkick looked to set up the 3K, but Taguchi ran in to turn the match back in Super 69’s favour. Dodon followed by ACH’s 450 Splash! One, two, pin broken up. They looked for their facebuster finisher, but ACH was German suplexed out of mid-air by Sho, who delivered three more to Taguchi. 3K to Taguchi! ACH initially blocked another, but a lungblower and superkick allowed the second to be delivered. One, two, three!
Roppongi 3K are the 2017 Super Jr. Tag Tournament winners, becoming the first incumber Jr. tag title holders to do so. As expected, the Young Bucks appeared, challenging for the titles, and Rocky Romero accepted on his team’s behalf. The match was good – not the best of the tournament or anything, but another good showcase for the winners who have be a real boon for the division since their arrival. ***1/2
CHAOS (Gedo, YOSHI-HASHI, Hirooki Goto, Tomohiro Ishii & Kazuchika Okada) vs. Los Ingobernables de Japón (Hiromu Takahashi, BUSHI, SANADA, EVIL & Tetsuya Naito)
Ishii and Evil faced off in aggressive fashion, then Hiromu and Yoshi-Hashi went at it at speed, both delivering nasty chops. The match spilled to the floor, with Naito receiving boos for slamming Okada on the ramp – fair to say he and Osaka have a unique relationship. Back in, Sanada and Evil combined to isolate Yoshi, who eventually scored a neckbreaker and made the tag to Goto. Goto ran wild, earning a two-count from a backdrop and blocking Sanada’s Paradise Lock, but he couldn’t avoid the springboard dropkick. Okada and Naito tagged! Okada brushed off elbows and nailed a DDT, but Naito landed a neckbreaker, slingshot corner dropkick and the super frankensteiner for two. Rainmaker blocked, Destino blocked, then Okada’s reverse neckbreaker connected. Bushi was in to hit a missile dropkick and LIJ combined to good effect, but Okada ducked MX setting off a run of signature offence all round. The Dropkick from Okada! Diving elbow, Rainmaker signalled, tombstone to Naito, Rainmaker to Bushi, and Okada mocked Naito’s pose as he covered for the academic win.
This had plenty going on between Naito/Okada and planting seeds for the World Tag League later this month. Fast-paced, lots of crowd heat, great stuff. ***3/4
A video announced that NJPW would return to the USA next year. Strong Style Evolved will take place at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach on March 25th.
***INTERMISSION***
NEVER Openweight Championship Bull Rope Match
Minoru Suzuki (c) (w/ El Deperado & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) vs. Toru Yano
Yano has twice defeated Suzuki by count-out in recent months; one-on-one during the G1 tournament and in a tag match at King of Pro-Wrestling in October. Needless to say, Minoru Suzuki wasn’t best pleased on either occasion and has spent the last few weeks choking whichever Young Lions are nearby with the bull rope which will feature here. Good luck, Yano.
Yano tried to avoid having his arm attached to the rope, but Suzuki ensured it was firmly in place before dragging him to the ramp. The piledriver was blocked, so Suzuki targeted Yano’s arm instead and choked him as he dragged him back to the ring. He hung Yano over the top-rope, allowing his cronies to attack, but here was Goto to help out his mate and drag the seconds to the back. Suzuki continued to punish Yano’s arm with a nasty double-wristlock and cross armbreaker until Yano made the ropes and was finally able to remove a turnbuckle pad. He scored a hair pull to send Suzuki into the exposed buckle then hung him over the top-rope, but Iizuka lumbered down the ramp, with the distraction providing an opening for Suzuki to jab Yano with a chair. Yano landed some chair shots of his own, however, and delivered a powerbomb(!), but Iizuka pulled out the referee and here was Taichi (sigh). More nonsense, as Yano hit a low blow for a near-fall, then Suzuki finally decided to end the match with a sleeper and delayed Gotch-Style Piledriver. Awful. Let us never speak of this again. *
IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship
Will Ospreay (c) vs. Marty Scurll
Since Will Ospreay is the first-ever British IWGP Junior champion, that would make this the first-ever all-British title match. Making History™. Ospreay finally beat KUSHIDA last month and Scurll came out to challenge after the match, a title shot he’s earned by virtue of beating Ospreay in the Best of the Super Juniors tournament way back in May.
An accomplished exchange of wristlocks led to a beautiful counter sequence, culminating in a dive fake-out from Ospreay. Outside, Scurll kicked the guardrail as Ospreay attempted a springboard then threw the champion into the chairs. Back in, Scurll began to target the arm, but Ospreay hit back with a handspring kick and jawbreaker, nailing a corner dropkick and standing corkscrew senton for two. Scurll blocked the Destroyer, leading to a back-and-forth of pinball attempts and the Just Kidding superkick only for Ospreay to nail the rebound Spanish Fly. They let fly with slaps, then a couple of nasty chops and Ospreay’s Cheeky Nandos kick connected. A counter Stunner from Ospreay sent Scurll to the floor, but he avoided the Sasuke Special and landed a tornado DDT on the floor and suplex onto the apron for two. More throat chops from Scurll had Ospreay retching, but a sequence of counters saw him nail a high-angle reverse DDT for a near-fall. Standing SSP, but the top-rope version hit the knees for two and Scurll’s modified Go To Sleep earned another two-count. Scurll snapped Ospreay’s fingers before stamping on them, then Ospreay showed crazy athleticism to avoid various moves before eventually being downed with a lariat. Essex Destroyer by Scurll! One, two, no. The Chickenwing was elbowed out of and Scurll was hung over the top-rope then hit with a Shooting Star Press! Two-count only. Corkscrew roundhouse, OsCutter countered, roll-up countered back into a victory roll by Scurll – one, two, three! New champion! What?!
That was completely unexpected. Post-match, Kushida was out to challenge (“motherfucker”), then Ospreay jumped in for a rematch, then Hiromu appeared in a hockey goalie’s mask and gloves! Very wise, Hiromu. He got on the mic too and Scurll agreed to a fatal four-way for Wrestle Kingdom! Happy with that. The content and layout of the match was top-notch, but it was undoubtedly lacking in crowd investment. Still, I feel like the quality shone through and therefore I’m going: ****
IWGP United States Championship
Kenny Omega (c) (w/ The Young Bucks) vs. Beretta
Not much history to report – this one is a last-minute addition to the card that came about because of some tag match confrontations in the weeks leading up to this show. A few months ago, Beretta split amicably from his team with Rocky Romero and declared his intention to wrestle as a heavyweight, while Omega has recently defended the US title against Juice Robinson and YOSHI-HASHI (in Ring of Honor).
Beretta slapped Omega after an arm-wringer exchange, then sent him to the floor where he connected with a suicide dive. Omega recovered, though, pulling a table from underneath the ring and suplexing Beretta onto it! He then laid the table over Beretta and stamped through it from the apron! (Cue a “Here’s Kenny!” moment through the hole in the table.) A huge tope con hilo and the leapfrog bulldog kept Omega on top, then he worked over the challenger’s back. Back body drop for two. The Finlay Roll/moonsault combo hit the knees, giving Beretta an opening, but Omega landed a German suplex. Tornado DDT from Beretta out of the corner and a sliding rope-hung German impressed the crowd. Omega blocked an apron piledriver with a back body drop, however, and the cross-legged Ushigoroshi earned two, then he was crotched on the top-rope, but managed to drop Beretta face-first onto the buckle before hitting a double-underhook piledriver for a near-fall.
Omega headed up for a moonsault, but Beretta caught him with a German suplex from the top-rope! Single-leg dropkick, spiked piledriver, two-count only! Out on the apron again and this time the piledriver connected! Ouch. A tope con hilo didn’t work out, though, and Beretta smashed through the table propped against the guardrail. He just broke the 20-count, but was subject to a trio of Snapdragon suplexes. Folding powerbomb, knee strike, deadlift Doctor Bomb – one, two, no! V-Trigger knee strike, but Beretta blocked the One-Winged Angel and nailed a desperation lariat. Somehow he dumped Omega with the Dudebuster at the second time of asking, but Omega kicked out! Elbows now, and Omega kicked at Beretta’s back before nailing a knee strike and inverted frankensteiner for two. A roll-up from Beretta got a very close two-count, so a pissed off Omega planted him with the One-Winged Angel. One, two, three!
Felt like a classic Omega-style title match without the fluff. You could argue it was rather spot-heavy, but I totally bought into it and thought they did a solid making Beretta feel credible. Great match. ****1/4
Post-match, Omega asked for a challenger but no-one appeared. He then delivered an entirely Japanese promo before saying “goodbye and goodnight” BUT THEN CHRIS JERICHO APPEARED ONSCREEN and challenged Omega to a match at Wrestle Kingdom! Holy shit! HO. LY. SHIT. That’s insane.
IWGP Intercontinental Championship
Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) vs. Kota Ibushi
Ibushi beat Tanahashi during the G1 Climax tournament, using an arm-trapped knee strike that he would christen Kamigoye (“to overcome God”) to finish the match. Tanahashi, having defended his title against Zack Sabre Jr. at Destruction in Kobe, issued a challenge to Ibushi which was accepted and has spent the time since claiming his opponent is immature and lacks hunger. Will Tanahashi’s arrogance get the better of him once more or will his determination to prove a point bring him victory? For those keeping records, this is the fourth year in a row an Intercontinental title match has headlined Power Struggle.
A lively back-and-forth led to a stand off, after which they traded arm control. Tanahashi used a gut punch on a rope-break, then brought Ibushi to the mat with a headscissors and kept on top with a side headlock. Ibushi twice kipped up from a shoulder block and dropkicked Tanahashi to the floor, but the champion avoided the moonsault and clipped Ibushi’s leg on the apron. Back in, the leg work commenced and Tanahashi kept his challenger grounded with a Dragon Screw before yanking the leg over the edge of the apron. Ibushi rolled out of the ring for some respite, but Tanahashi casually continued the punishment then avoided a standing moonsault which caused Ibushi to jam his knee. They exchanged elbows and finally Ibushi caught a break, stomping Tanahashi out of the air on a dropkick. Strike flurry and a standing SSP for two, then a frankensteiner sent Tanahashi outside. Golden Triangle moonsault! Beautiful, as always.
Tanahashi scored a Dragon Screw over the middle-rope on the way back in, then hammered at Ibushi’s legs, brushing off kicks for another Dragon Screw. Cloverleaf applied! Tanahashi sat deep, but Ibushi stretched and reached the ropes. He caught Tanahashi and laid him over the top-tope to deliver a Nakamura-style knee lift! Tanahashi blocked the outside-in German, however, and yet another Dragon Screw put Ibushi on the floor. High Fly Flow crossbody from the top-rope to the outside! Back in, Ibushi was hit with the Sling Blade after flipping out of a German suplex, but he used an overhead kick to block the High Fly Flow and scored a springboard super frankensteiner for a two-count of his own. Tanahashi blocked Kamigoye smartly by crossing his arms, but Ibushi nailed him with a jumping knee then picked him up and lawn-darted him into the turnbuckle! Brutal. He lifted Tanahashi from the apron, dumping him back into the ring with an elevated German suplex! One, two, no! Good lord. Up top, the Phoenix Splash missed the mark, the High Fly Flow missed the mark and both men were down.
Ibushi tried to throw elbows, Tanahashi slapped the shit out of him, then Ibushi smashed him with palm strikes! More slaps back-and-forth and Ibushi punched Tanahashi in the corner with closed fists! Ibushi grabbed referee Red Shoes’ hand as he continued to stomp Tanahashi, but the champion fired up and slapped Ibushi until Ibushi threw a huge lariat! Amazing. Golden Star powerbomb! Two-count only! He attempted – but couldn’t hit – the Phoenix-plex and Tanahashi hit three neckbreakers only to be kicked in the head. Kamigoye ducked, Sling Blade, Dragon suplex – one, two, no! High Fly Flow to Ibushi’s back! High Fly Flow! One, two, three!
What an amazing main event, perhaps even better than the G1 match. Every time I suspect Tanahashi has lost a step he delivers a performance like this. The strike sequence towards the end was absolutely sensational and the whole thing escalated with such precision it was a pleasure to watch. ****3/4
Post-match, the two men hugged and Ibushi bowed to Tanahashi and the crowd before leaving. In his promo, Tanahashi thanked Ibushi and the crowd then pretended to leave, before returning to do his guitar schtick.
The confetti falls and we’re out. Or not…
Mysterious “Switchblade” vignettes have been appearing since August and we got one more here. Finally, he was revealed to be… JAY WHITE! Yes! He walked to the ring, challenged Tanahashi then left him laying with a swinging reverse STO! He placed his switchblade necklace on Tanahashi’s prone body then sauntered to the back. Wow.
Final thoughts: Well, that was certainly eventful. Now I’ve had time to get my breath back I’m here to tell you that as long as you (for the love of God) skip Yano/Suzuki this was a great show. A couple of good tag matches, a couple of great title matches and a spectacular main event make this an easy recommendation. The reveals and announcements were genuinely thrilling and Wrestle Kingdom is shaping up very nicely indeed.
Up next is the World Tag League which begins on November 18th. I’ll be back to review the Finals, although I may try and cover some of the tournament matches. See you then.

Thailand (3 weeks)
I knew I wanted to start in Thailand because it's capital is one of the cheaper cities to fly into, I heard it's a good starting point culturally speaking, and I've been researching the country for a few years. Now that I've moved on, I DEFINITELY miss the Thai food and Thai tea, I had to limit myself to two glasses per day lol. Something I really admired about Thai temples is the mirrored glass they used on a lot of their statues and architecture (shown below). Here are Thai spots I checked out in this order with my accomodations, photos, and personal feedback/suggestions.
1. Bangkok
(3/23-26) Playground Hostel
Outside of Bangkok proper but a nice break from the bussling city, 30-min walk to the Grand Palace/main center; tried to be a party hostel and saw a roach crawling around the dorm the size of my palm
(3/27) Overnight train to Chiang Mai
Surprisingly a very comfortable 12-hour ride and sleep on the top bunk (bottom bunks are more expensive, I don't know why). You can buy a nicely prepared dinner and breakfast for 200-300 baht ($7-9), pricey but dinner is worth it if you didn't prepare with drinks and snacks.
This city is an ideal starting point to a backpacking trip, especially not having been to Asia before, because it'll still give you some sort of culture shock, but still relatively familiar in terms of communication (many locals speak some English). Bangkok has loads of temples, street food, nice Western-styled establishments, China Town (a must!), India Town, etc. so it incorporates more diverse cultures than other large cities in SE Asia. Tourism is a substantial part of their culture, so take it as you will, but Thailand has continued to build out their foundation around appealing to their tourists. Staying 2-3 nights is enough; I stayed 1-2 nights too long because I had already booked my overnight train to the North before I arrived.
Tumblr media
2. Chiang Mai
(3/28-30) Hug Hostel
Five stars!!! I absolutely loved this hostel because it was right outside of Old City, there was a beautiful view of the sunset on the rooftop bar, there were seperate bathrooms for men and women (with showers seperate from the toilet area!), there was a super relaxing common room with air con, the cutest cafe with delicious food and beveratges, cheap laundry service, and super accomodating staff.
After dreaming about going to Chiang Mai for this long, it was definitely different than I had pictured and I don't think I would've been happy if I did end up temporarily moving there post-graduation. Nonethless, it's a very charming, historical city with very rich culture. Temples and monuments are on every corner within and outside of Old City. The cheapest massages I've seen were in Chiang Mai at 100 baht or ~$3. Since I went during the dry season, the air pollution was extremely high in North Thailand so getting a mask was helpful. You can rinse them once they start turning brown from the dirt.
Tumblr media
3. Pai
(3/31-4/3) Paitopia
Different than other hostel rooms, this dorm didn't have any bunk beds or dividers, just 8 beds in one giant room. It felt a lot like college, and it was the first hostel where I had to shower in the same room as the toilet. It still grosses me out, but eh that's traveling. The common space was outside with free tea and coffe, a pool and hammocks :)
Wow wow wow... I didn't get stuck in the Pai hole but I was pretty close! Pai is a magical land that has crossed my mind a lot since I left, I think because of the town's energy and of the company I was with. This was my favorite place in Thailand, hands down. Everytime Thailand comes up in conversation, so does Pai, because everyone knows how incredible it is, regardless of how polluted the air may be. It's very quiet, relaxed, easy going and carefree. It's two hours north of Chiang Mai, and I was 99% positive I was going to vomit in the bus ride there because the roads are SOOO windy, but luckily did not. There are'nt many tourists, and now that I think about it, very little families traveling throughout Northern Thailand, which was very nice. It's more locals, backpackers and expats. You can explore rice fields, bamboo bridge, waterfalls, caves and drink mushroom milkshakes. The small town has a lot of boutiques, bars, and cafes with glow in the dark paint all over the walls. It's a hippie spot!
Tumblr media
4. Chiang Rai
(4/4-5) Norn Nun Leng
Saw a rat the size of my cat. Next.
Only stopped in Chiang Rai for two nights to see the White Temple, which was MESMORIZING... definitely worth the 3 hour jam-packed, sticky tuk tuk ride to get here.
Tumblr media
5. Phuket
(4/6) 12 Month Hostel
Hidden, but very cute, cheap hostel with large, comfortable, private dorm beds made of wood rather than metal bunk beds which was nice. The showers had shampoo and body wash = super clutch. AND with a waterfall shower! I felt like I was at a spa compared to the other places I had recently stayed at.
Took a boat from Phuket Town, through Phi Phi, to arrive in Krabi. Not much time spent in Phuket Town or Phi Phi, but nothing too special from what I saw, just a bunch of bars and restaurants. You have to travel outside a bit to experience the nice beaches.
Tumblr media
6. Krabi (Klong Muang)
(4/7-9) Bliss Beach Resort
I met my girlfriend at this Resort (the friend who I backedpacked with in 2011). Typically I wouldn't stay at a resort since I'm obviously on a budget, but she had already planned her itinerary. Bliss is an adorable, cozier, authentic beach resort than most. It's nestled between other resorts on a quiet side of Krabi, facing many islands with private boats. The buffet breakfast was delicious, the staff was super sweet and the shampoo/body wash smelled amazing.
Klong Muang was extremely relaxing and cleaner than I was used to.  I celebrated my birthday here with my best friend, the best pinacoladas I've ever had and fried pineapple rice. THE BEST. I'm drooling. During the day, we hired a private boat to Hong Island where we swam with gigantic jellyfish, snorkled and tanned on the beach. Just amazing. Take me back!!
Tumblr media
7. Khao Lak
(4/10-11) Mana Thai Resort
The nicest hotel I've stayed at in years lol. I guess they noticed my birthday from my passport and secretly delivered a birthday cake to our room!! In the rooms they have bowls of tropical fruit and chili garlic scented toilettries. Oh so Thai. Ther's a huge, refreshing pool overlooking the ocean with pool/beachside service. Not a bad way to say "Kob Khun Kha" to Thailand after THREE INSANELY PACKED, SUPREME WEEKS.

The best time to visit Dubai is in the cooler months when the days are breezy and invigorating and nights can be nippy. During this time your Dubai itinerary will overflow with things to do and places to see without the fear of heatstroke or dehydration.
The United Arab Emirates with Dubai as it’s glamorous poster child, has always been at the forefront of innovation in architectural marvels, improvement of it’s infrastructure and the standard of living for the benefit of it’s residents. In one generation Dubai has gone from a sleepy fishing village with pearl diving, weaving and regional trading as it’s main sources of income, to the City of Gold where everything is bigger, better and shinier and expats come to fulfill their dreams.
Nothing can prepare visitors coming to Dubai for short breaks or a Dubai layover for the beauty, prosperity, modernity and goodwill that they will encounter during their Dubai visit. In this city of convenience, comfort and exceptional customer service there is so much to see and do that you may regret not staying longer than a 96 hour stopover.
Whether you are a solo traveler, newly weds on a Dubai honeymoon or coming on Dubai family holidays, the Dubai weather in December makes it the best time to visit. Dubai excursions are more enjoyable and there are so many things to do in Dubai with kids outside of the malls. This essential insiders Dubai vacation travel guide includes everything you need to know to plan your city break in Dubai.

The best time to visit Dubai for outdoor activities
When friends and relatives ask what is the best time to go to Dubai for a vacation or stopover, I always recommend visiting between November and March. By November the heat starts abating and cooler temperatures prevail with occasion rain showers. This also coincides with the peak season when accommodation is in demand and prices can be higher in popular areas.
Dubai weather in December, January and February is ideal for outdoor activities in the city’s many parks, beach and creek side recreation areas. Barbecues and picnics are very popular in the beach parks at this time.
The weather is mild and the temperature seldom goes above 28-30 degrees Celsius making it possible to walk around outside without fear of a heatstroke or dehydration.
The more temperate weather makes sunbathing and water sports like kayaking, canoeing, fly boarding as well as recreational fishing more bearable.
Christmas in Dubai is an awesome time to visit because the city goes all out to make non-Muslim residents and visitors feel at home during the holiday season. Malls have beautifully decorated Christmas trees and hotels have special events for non-Muslim children to experience the holidays.
This is also the best time to visit Dubai because it coincides with the annual Dubai Shopping festival (DSF), the Dubai International Film Festival, the Commemoration Day and UAE National Day celebrations.
Many seasonal attractions that are mostly outdoors like Global Village, Dubai Garden Glow and Dubai Miracle Garden are only open during the cooler months.
Schools and colleges have their year-end vacation and many families take the opportunity to visit their home countries to spend the festive season with family.
Many visitors from the Northern hemisphere visit Dubai to escape the cold in December, and it is advisable to book everything from hotel accommodation to tickets for the Dubai Opera or even dinner reservations in advance.

Summer in Dubai
Summers in Dubai are very hot and most residents take the opportunity to enjoy the summer Dubai holidays in cooler climates in other parts of the world. A decade ago Dubai was practically deserted during the summer months from June to August. That has changed since the emirates have been promoted as a haven for sun-seekers, and cheap holidays to Dubai are advertised in foreign markets.
During summer in Dubai the hot and dry desert winds, known as shamal, blow sand and dust from Iraq and Turkey down through the gulf states for 3-5 days at a time. This results in huge sandstorms carrying very fine dust that settles onto everything and significantly reduces visibility on urban and desert roads. People may suffer from respiratory distress if they breathe in the fine dust and it is advisable to refrain from outdoor pursuits during this time. There are many indoor activities at malls, museums and other places of entertainment.
The best time to visit Dubai for low prices is between June – August when it is high summer and average day time temperatures reach 40 Celcius and higher.
Cheap holiday packages to Dubai are usually offered by travel agents during the hottest summer months and may include the cost of visas, flights, airport transfers and accommodation. It should be noted however, that the high humidity and temperatures often make any Dubai excursions and outdoor pursuits very exhausting.
Things to know before visiting Dubai
My Dubai vacation travel guide will assist you in choosing the best time to visit Dubai while making the most of your Dubai short breaks. Whether it is taking Dubai day tours, fun activities or finding the best places to visit in Dubai. It should be noted that Dubai is one of the safest solo female travel destinations and also one of the best places to travel alone as female.
Read more: Top Destinations for solo female travellers
Modesty – Always be respectful and maintain your modesty and personal space in public, especially when visiting places of worship.
Sun protection – Remember to carry a sunhat and wear sunblock in summer months and also during the winter months when it is still very warm.
Malls – Many activities are indoors inside malls to enable residents to enjoy it year round. This includes ski slopes, aquariums, cinemas, jungles, ice skating rinks.
Bargain hunt –  Visit and haggle in the markets and souks to secure a discount. Most Mall stores have fixed prices unless discounted during sales. Steer clear of sellers of counterfeit clothing, handbags and perfume in souks as their prices are ridiculous.
History and culture – Venture outside of your hotel and the well known tourist attractions to learn more about the history of the emirate and how it’s location has shaped the economy and culture of the people.
Transportation – There are taxis, uber, busses, metro and tram lines to get you around the city. There are even air-conditioned bus stops so you don’t have to break into an unnecessary sweat.
Alcohol – This is not available outside of licensed hotels, pubs, clubs and restaurants and their license covers Non-muslim patrons. It is not advisable to be in public in a drunken state as this may result in arrest or prosecution under the UAE Penal code. Tourists may now obtain a free alcohol license for legal purchases of alcohol and consumption outside of the licensed hotels, pubs and clubs. Click here for more information.
Eve teasing / sexual harassment – This is prohibited by the UAE Penal code and carries a maximum fine of AED 10,000 or one year imprisonment, if convicted of molesting a woman by words or actions in a public or frequented place.
Public displays of affection – Many visitors to the United Arab Emirates overlook the fact that it is essentially a Muslim majority country and that they should also observe modesty in behavior when out in public places. Visitors should not offend the cultural sensibilities of local residents by engaging in indecent public displays of affection. Kissing and other overt sexual behaviors are frowned upon especially in public places frequented by families. Complaints may result in arrest or prosecution under the UAE Penal code. This includes shopping malls, supermarkets, cinemas, theaters, outdoor markets, parks, tourist attractions, the public areas of hotels and government offices and institutions.
For information for your Dubai vacation I recommend that you familiarize yourself with general information about Dubai before visiting.

How to travel to Dubai for the first time
Dubai has two international airports welcoming visitors coming for their Dubai vacation or stopover.
The oldest and busiest is Dubai International airport which is the main airport with it’s three terminals located between Umm Ramool and Al Qusais in the city limits. This is the main hub for Emirates Airlines.
The newer airport is Al Maktoum International airport located in Jebel Ali, approximately 37 km south of Dubai city center. This airport is used by many regional carriers and low cost airlines.
Etihad Airways flies into Abu Dhabi International Airport and provides complimentary inter-emirate shuttle coach services for economy class passengers from the Abu Dhabi International airport to Mazaya Centre in Downtown Dubai. First and business class passengers may avail of complimentary chauffeur services.
Air Arabia flights come into Sharjah International and Ras Al Khaimah International Airports. There are metered taxis from these airports into the city of Dubai. There are also coach services between Sharjah and Al Ghurair Centre in Dubai (AED 20 / US$ 5.45).
Dubai Al Seef
Finding free wi-fi in Dubai
When you arrive at Terminal 1 or Terminal 3 at Dubai Airport you will see signs with instructions on how to connect to the free wi-fi service within the terminal buildings.
There are also free wi-fi services on the metro as well as in the Dubai Metro stations. This map of the wi-fi hotspots will be helpful.
Many of the city malls have free wi-fi that is available after registration on their site.
A number of cafes and quick service restaurants like Costa and Mugg and Bean offer 30 minutes or more of free wi-fi with every order.
Best time to visit Dubai and how to get around
Airport taxis are available at designated areas in the arrivals terminals and charge a higher starting rate of AED 25 plus a per km rate for all trips originating from the airport.
Metered taxis operate throughout all areas of the city and can be hailed or ordered via the Dubai Taxi service operator.
Commuters using public transportation in Dubai use a NOL smart card that allows the holder to utilise all the public transportation modes operated by the Roads and Transportation Authority (busses, metro, tram and marine services).
The red and green metro lines connect all areas in the city and the Dubai International Airport may be reached via the red line. The metro connects to the Al Sufouh tram line at the Damac and Jumeirah Lakes Towers stations (cross Shaikh Zayed Road via the airbridge from the metro stations) to reach the Dubai Marina.
Car rental companies operate at Dubai International Airport and various locations in the city. Rental car bookings can be made online in many cases or in person. They will require an international driver’s license as well as a passport and valid visa to issue the vehicle.
There are also Uber and Careem e-hailing services that can be ordered via their apps. These services may now access the airport terminals as well as the malls throughout the city.
Best time to visit Dubai and what to wear
Dubai has very hot summers and mild temperate winters that sometimes require a cardigan or light shawl in the early mornings or evenings during the cooler months.
Flowy dresses or wide leg / loose fit trousers with tops are the most comfortable in summer and the cooler months. Cotton, linen and other natural fabrics are preferable in the heat as they are lightweight and breathable and less clingy than synthetic fabrics.
Shorts, culottes and capri pants are also comfortable as long as it is not too short (hot pants).
Always pack a hat and sunglasses to protect your skin and eyes from the harsh sunlight, even in the cooler months.
Sunblock or a high sun protection factor sunscreen is essential throughout the year to prevent sunburn and sun damage.
If you suffer from dust allergies it may be advisable to carry a mask or fabric respirator during a summer visit when there may be sandstorm conditions.
Where to stay in Dubai
Every neighborhood in Dubai has it’s own charms and there are countless options for visitors who want to experience the best cultural activities, resorts, restaurants and leisure facilities.
Dubai four and five star hotels are some of the best in the world in terms of value for money, comfort, spaciousness and customer service.
There are however also many cheap hotels in Dubai suitable for all budgets and comfort levels, especially in the older historic areas of the city like Deira and Bur Dubai. During the summer months this area is very crowded and the humidity can be unpleasant to experience.
Although the premier hotels can cost an arm and a leg there are many that are located near to the main attractions for a more reasonable rate. You can read more about that next week in my article on where to stay in Dubai.
Best time to visit Dubai for a food experience
Dubai is a multi-cultural melting pot with residents from all over the world who have come to make their fortune and their home. This makes the city abundant with exotic cuisines that can be found in road side cafes, independent restaurants, mall eateries and fine dining hotel restaurants.
One of the most common complaints I always hear from friends and relatives on their Dubai visit is that they did not expect the food to be so affordable. I suspect that because the city has the reputation for luxury, glamour and excess, travelers automatically assume that everything is expensive. Although that may be true for highly regarded hotel restaurants fronted by celebrity chefs, there are many establishments that cater for the average man on the street.
The best time to visit to Dubai and get amazing deals from the best restaurants is during the annual Dubai Food Festival held during February and March every year.
The farmer’s markets operate between October – April and offer a wide variety of locally grown produce from the farms in Dubai and the neighboring emirates. This is the time to reduce our carbon footprint and buy local because fresh fruit and vegetables are plentiful and bounteous.
To read about where to eat in Dubai please stay tuned for my resident’s guide to the best Dubai restaurants and cafes.
A few of my favorites are on the blog:

Places to visit in Dubai for free
The Dubai Aquarium – located in Dubai Mall, you can view the tank directly in the mall without buying a ticket. The only additional benefit from buying a ticket to enter the aquarium would be to see the staff feeding the fish and penguins.
The Dubai Mall fountains display – entrance to the mall is free and the fountain show is a synchronised dancing fountain show during the evening.
Fossil Rock – Located in Maleha and accessed via Al Awir on the Dubai Hatta Road, this pristine dessert area has fossils that are millions of years old and is best seen during the day.
The Dubai Festival City music and light show – This takes place at the Festival City Mall promenade and uses 30 fountains for a fantastic display of artistry with lights, water and fire.
The Coffee Museum – Located in Villa 44 in the Al Fahidi Historical district it showcases coffee roasting and brewing techniques from various regions via live demonstrations. This is near Al Seef, an instagrammer’s delight.
The Camel Museum – located in Al Shindagha historical district, the museum is dedicated to camels and their impact on life and economy of the UAE and the Arabian people. They offer free guided tours and free entry.
The Horse Museum – located in Al Shindagha historical district, the museum is dedicated to the history of Arabian horses and famous breeds. They offer free guided tours and free entry.
The best time to visit Dubai for shopping and where to go
The annual Dubai Shopping Festival, a five week extravaganza takes place from end December to the end of January. It includes raffles, weekend deals, flash sales and more, with between 25-90 % discounts in many stores. During the sales there are also frequently offers like ‘buy two, get one free’ and they may run concurrently with a deep discount.
For those who choose to brave out the summer in Dubai, the city puts on the Dubai Summer Surprises, a two month shopping experience that rivals the year end shopping festival. It also includes flash sales, weekend deals and discounts of between 25-90 % in participating stores.
BEST MALLS IN DUBAI
There is no shortage of mega malls and these have a wide variety of leisure activities, retail as well as dining and entertainment options. A number of them are accessible via metro / tram as well as taxis, uber, Careem and self-driving. My favorite mall by far is the Mall of the Emirates as it has user-friendly parking, valet parking, as well as awesome bargains throughout the year.
Mall of the Emirates (metro) – Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Barsha 1, Dubai. Self Parking and Valet parking available.
Dubai Marina Mall (metro and tram) – Al Marsa Street, Dubai Marina, Dubai. Self Parking and Valet parking available.

NEW YEARS EVE IN DUBAI
The highlight of the annual calendar is New Years Eve, when residents come out in droves to witness the spectacular fireworks displays across the city to usher in the new Gregorian calendar year. The fireworks displays are usually held at Atlantis the Palm, Burj al Arab, Burj Khalifah, Dubai Festival City and Dubai Creek. You should note that the roads to and from the high traffic areas are closed from 5 or 6pm until after midnight and many revellers either use public transport or park their cars and take a taxi or walk to the nearest vantage point.
Restaurants and cafes with a view of the fireworks charge premium prices for a meal and a seat for a few hours until after midnight.
Eateries around the Dubai Mall Fountains charged from AED 1500 per person for unlimited food (burgers, hotdogs, french fries, milkshakes or sodas) for window seats or outside seating with a view of Burj Khalifa.
Karma Kafe Dubai had a few packages with the lowest starting at AED 499 for an open bar.
Hurricanes Grill offered a five course meal with soft drinks for AED 795 (indoor, limited view) and AED 995 on the terrace.

Taste of Dubai is held in the Du Arena in Dubai Media City over a weekend and many of the city’s best restaurants take up concession stands to offer their unique delights to the public. There are also cooking shows and demonstrations by world renowned chefs, celebrity tv chefs and producers.

Ramadhan is a month of spiritual significance for Muslims and visitors to the country during this period should maintain the utmost respect and decorum in dress and behavior. During Ramadhan it is prohibited for adults to consume food, beverages or tobacco products in public during fasting hours and failure to observe the prohibition may result in fines or jail time if caught in the act.
Many restaurants and cafes continue to operate during the month of Ramadhan and are licensed for delivery and take-out services, even though they may not be licensed to serve food to the public during business hours. The fully licensed hospitality operators are obliged to cover their windows to ensure that their day time customers may enjoy their meals undisturbed.

Taking a tour around Vietnam to discover true beach paradises
Given its 3,000-km coastline, the country is the ultimate place to relax on beautiful beaches with smooth sands and turquoise waters.
Despite the recent tourism boom that has turned its popular tourist destinations somewhat boisterous, there is no denying that Vietnam has many glamorous beach paradises spanning from the southern delta to the central coast.
Touropia, a popular U.S.-based travel site, recently released a list of the 10 most beautiful beaches in Vietnam that you should take time out of your 2018 schedule to check them out.

To be honest, Phu Quoc, Vietnam’s biggest island and to its far south, is one of the places overrun by travel fever in recent years, resulting in crowded beaches and busy tourism services.
Fortunately, Long Beach still remains off the beaten track and is recommended by seasoned travelers as an unmissable destination.
Stretching almost 20km along the southwestern coast of Phu Quoc, the beach does not disappoint beach lovers with its turquoise waters, golden sand, swaying coconut palms, and gorgeous sunsets.
It is not crowded, and offers a welcome respite from noisy tourists.

Once a sleepy fishing village, Mui Ne in the south-central province of Binh Thuan has transformed into a red-hot destination for adventure tourism.
That’s why Singapore-based news and lifestyle site Asia One has dubbed Mui Ne one of the best five places in Asia for sports fans.
If you are looking for a pure, clean beach lined with golden sand, gorgeous blue water and coconut groves stretching along the coast, Rang Beach, also known as Mui Ne Beach, around 15 kilometers (9 miles) to the northeast of Phan Thiet, a bustling port city in Binh Thuan, is a top pick.
This seaside paradise has added to its vacation value by offering exciting water sports like windsurfing, surfing, jet-skiing, and kayaking at prices ranging from VND300,000 ($12.85) to VND500,000 ($21.42) per person.
One of the highlights of the beach might be a traditional small fishing village at the northern end of the beach. It still manages to preserve its old-world charm despite the tourism boom and urbanization.
The coastal city of Nha Trang in Khanh Hoa Province has become one of the top vacation destinations in Vietnam and is no stranger to foreign tourists.
If you are bored with crowded tourist attractions such as Vinpearl Land, Ponagar Cham Towers and April 2 Square, Touropia has suggests a lesser-known place: Doc Let Beach, which has been compared with the U.S.’s Hawaii.

Around 50 kilometers (31 miles) from Nha Trang, the beach stretches for 18 kilometers with chalk-white sands and shallow turquoise waters that help it ensure its rankings among Vietnam’s best beaches.
Don’t forget to visit Hon Khoi, the largest salt field in central Vietnam, where mounds of natural salt are manually harvested from shallow fields along Doc Let Beach.
Salt workers, mainly middle-aged women, have to work from 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. often in the scorching sun, forcing them to wear conical hats, rubber gloves, boots and facemasks.
It is no exaggeration to say that Dai Lanh, around 80 kilometers (49 miles) from Nha Trang center, is the most unspoiled beach in central Vietnam with its turquoise waters and stretches of white sand.
The World Tourism Organization last year ranked the beach among the breathtaking sights in Southeast Asia that have avoided the tourist rush.

Dai Lanh beach became well-known in 1836 when King Minh Mang, the second emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty, the last family to ever rule Vietnam from 1802 until the end of feudal Vietnam in 1945, ordered its picture to be carved into the nine cauldrons placed in the yard of the Imperial Citadel in Hue.
Tourism is not yet popular here, so the services are still modest, but Dai Lanh has attracted many travelers this year thanks to its amazing natural beauty.

Con Dao, a chain of 16 islands and islets, has gone from being a notorious prison during French colonial rule to what it is today.
With improved flight connections from HCMC, Vietnam’s isolated archipelago has stolen tourists’ hearts with its breathtaking beaches, fresh seafood and rugged mountains.
The island is a mysterious untouched paradise that can even be a little scary for those who have read the hellish stories about its infamous prison where the French colonialists incarcerated and inhumanely tortured many Vietnamese freedom fighters.
But do not worry, the war ended decades ago and Con Dao has been transformed into a Vietnamese island heaven.
The 10-km beach running from the base of the Son Tra Peninsula to the Marble Mountains catapulted to global fame when Australian newspaper The Sunday Herald Sun listed it among Asia’s 10 most beautiful beaches in 2012.

The beach still offers a laidback atmosphere and a perfect getaway with its sparkling blue waters, white sands and adventure sports activities.
Don’t miss a chance to get on a parasailing experience on the beach. You can soar in the air and admire the vast ocean view below, watch the 67-meter statue of the Goddess of Mercy situated on the slope of Son Tra peninsula.
Tourists have to pay VND500,000 ($22) for a 15-minute parasailing. Remember that the game is not for the faint-hearted.

A bunch of eight small islands form the Cu Lao Cham Marine Protected Area, a biosphere reserve recognized by UNESCO.
The islands, a 30-minute boat ride from Cua Dai Beach, have been overrun as a result of their popularity among travelers in recent years, prompting local authorities to better control the number of tourists visiting the protected islands treasured for their biosphere.
The place boasts long beaches lying serenely along the crystal clear waters and coral reefs just two meters under the water that make diving here all the rage.
Local islanders are known for their eco-friendly lifestyle. In 2009 they gave up plastic bags and began an impressive campaign to clean up the environment.

Cua Dai Beach near the famous ancient town of Hoi An has been named among the most affordable beaches on earth in the 2018 Beach Price Index compiled by TravelBird, a Netherlands-based travel site that breaks down the daily expenses of a beach holiday on 327 beautiful beaches in 90 countries and territories.
However, the beach was once at risk of disappearing from the global tourism map. In October 2014 huge waves demolished a concrete embankment and eroded nearly 200 meters of the beach for three kilometers. Scientists blamed the erosion on upstream hydropower plants that had robbed the beach of its sand.
Local authorities spent around VND70 billion ($3.08 million) building a new embankment, installing iron pilings and dumping sand in the area to save Cua Dai, which they viewed as a valuable tourism resource for Hoi An.
Last year the beach opened again and welcomed tourists back to enjoy the temperate climate and warm waters after three years of fighting the severe erosion.

Ky Co is a beach paradise in Quy Nhon, a quiet town in the central province of Binh Dinh, that has retained its pristine wilderness thanks to a relative low profile.
A 30-minute drive from Quy Nhon, Ky Co promises to enchant you with its crystal-clear blue waters, calm sea, smooth golden sand, and untouched beauty.
The water has two distinct colors: cyan blue near the shore and deeper blue off the coast. At Eo Gio, you can buy a package tour to Ky Co for VND350,000 ($15) per person. The tour includes a 30-minute motorboat ride, snorkeling in the coral reef and fresh seafood provided and cooked by locals. Tickets to enter the beach cost VND30,000 ($1.32).

The 12-km beach along Tran Phu Street in Nha Trang has found a place on Vietnam’s beach tourism map over the past couple of years, meaning there is no shortage of travel tips when you do your research.
But it also means it has become a bit crowded especially with a recent influx of Chinese and Russian tourists.
On one side is the deep-blue sea and on the other is a busy street covered with an array of bars, hotels and luxury restaurants that operate round the clock.
