SF Preview: Casper Ruud v Alexander Zverev - Two very hungry players, vying for another GS Final trip
In today's other semifinal at Roland Garros, Casper Ruud faces Alexander Zverev in a classic showdown of consistency versus power.
Casper Ruud has honed his game to perfection on clay courts, leveraging heavy topspin to control rallies and outmaneuver opponents. His forehand is a weapon of mass disruption, loaded with topspin that pushes opponents deep behind the baseline and creates acute angles for winners. Ruud’s footwork on clay is impeccable; his ability to slide into shots and maintain balance allows him to stay aggressive while minimizing unforced errors. His backhand, while not as lethal as his forehand, is a model of consistency and precision, crucial for setting up his forehand attacks.
Positive Stats for Ruud at Roland Garros 2024:
First Serve Percentage: Ruud has consistently maintained a high first serve percentage, around 70%, which helps him start points aggressively.
Topspin Forehand Winners: Averaging over 20 forehand winners per match, Ruud’s topspin forehand has been a significant weapon.
Negative Stats for Ruud at Roland Garros 2024:
Unforced Errors: While generally consistent, Ruud has had matches with high unforced error counts, occasionally exceeding 30.
Break Points Saved: His ability to save break points has been a bit shaky, with a conversion rate around 50%.
Alexander Zverev brings a different dynamic with his imposing 198 cm frame and powerful groundstrokes. His two-handed backhand is one of the most potent on tour, allowing him to dictate play and hit winners from the baseline. Despite his height, Zverev’s movement is surprisingly agile, utilizing long strides to cover the court effectively. His footwork, though not as fluid as Ruud’s, is efficient enough to keep him in rallies and turn defense into offense.
Positive Stats for Zverev at Roland Garros 2024:
Aces: Zverev has been serving strong, averaging over 10 aces per match, giving him free points and maintaining pressure on his opponents.
Backhand Winners: His backhand has been exceptionally effective, averaging 15 winners per match, keeping opponents on the defensive.
Negative Stats for Zverev at Roland Garros 2024:
Double Faults: Zverev has struggled with double faults, averaging 5 per match, which can give away crucial points.
First Serve Percentage: While powerful, his first serve percentage has been inconsistent, dipping below 60% in some matches.
Keys to Victory for Ruud:
Heavy Topspin: Ruud must utilize his heavy topspin forehand to keep Zverev deep and off balance, forcing short balls and creating opportunities to attack.
Consistency: Maintaining a high level of consistency and minimizing unforced errors will be crucial. Ruud needs to prolong rallies and wait for Zverev to make mistakes.
Efficient Movement: Ruud’s ability to move efficiently on clay will be vital in outlasting Zverev in extended rallies, especially in the grueling conditions of Roland Garros.
Keys to Victory for Zverev:
Powerful Backhand: Zverev must leverage his powerful two-handed backhand to dominate rallies, hitting deep and aggressive shots to push Ruud on the defensive.
Effective Serving: Serving effectively to gain free points and maintain pressure on Ruud will be essential. Zverev’s serve can be a game-changer if he maintains a high first-serve percentage.
Control the Baseline: Using his height and reach, Zverev should aim to control the baseline, dictating play and keeping Ruud from settling into his topspin rhythm.
This match promises to be a captivating clash of styles. While Zverev’s power and serving could give him the upper hand, Ruud’s consistency, topspin, and clay-court savvy might tip the balance in his favor. Tennis enthusiasts can expect a thrilling battle of tactical prowess and physical endurance.

Dupla de Marcelo Melo é vice-campeã do Masters 1000 de Monte Carlo
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ele conseguiu chegar a tempo.
No entanto, no terceiro e último set, prevaleceu a experiência de Siegmund; a alemã garantiu 6/3 e o Brasil deu adeus à competição.
Resultados do Brasil
Jogo 1 - sexta (12) -  Derrota de Bia Haddad para Laura Siegmund por 2 sets a 0 (6/4 6/2) Jogo 2 -  sexta (12) - Derrota de Laura Pigossi para Tatjana Maria 2 sets a 1 (2/6 6/4 6/4) Jogo 3 - sábado (13) - Vitória de Beatriz Haddad sobre Anna Lena-Friedsam por 2 sets a 1 (5/7 6/0 6/1) Jogo 4 - sábado (13) - Derrota de Carolina Meligeni para Laura Siegmund por 2 sets a 1 (6/1 2/6 6/3) Edição: Cláudia Soares Rodrigues

Alcaraz To Face Sinner In Indian Wells Semis; Rudd To Meet Medvedev
Tumblr media
Indian Wells Tennis Garden: Carlos Alcaraz moved into the Indian Wells semifinal after beating Alexander Zverev 6-3, 6-1 in a quarterfinal match like no other.Swarmed by bees, Carlos Alcaraz swung his racquet in defense, halting play for nearly two hours. Despite the interruption, Alcaraz showcased incredible resilience and skill, overpowering Zverev with his monstrous ball-striking to secure a victory and a spot in the semifinals. Reflecting on the surreal moment, Alcaraz described the chaos of thousands of bees surrounding him, illustrating the intensity of the situation. With the help of a beekeeper, play resumed, and Alcaraz emerged from the delay in top form, demonstrating his prowess on the court with blistering forehand winners and impeccable court coverage. “It was strange, I’ve never seen something like that on a tennis court,” Alcaraz said. “When we ran out of the court, we were watching the bee invasion on the TV and we laughed a lot about it. It was funny for me. It’s going to be remembered for that, not for tennis.” The bizarre incident occurred in the 20-year-old’s second service game of the match when bees surrounded him and completely covered the spidercam on Stadium 1. "I saw the sky and there were thousands (of bees) flying, stuck in my hair, going to me. It was crazy," Alcaraz said. A beekeeper was called to the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, and later Alcaraz kept Zverev from defeating him for the third time in six months. Alcaraz's victory marked his tenth consecutive win at Indian Wells and propelled him into his eighth Masters 1000 semi-final, where he is set to face off against Jannik Sinner. Jannik Sinner extended his unbeaten streak in 2024 to 16 matches with a comfortable victory over Jiri Lehecka 6-3 6-3 in the other quarter-finals. The world No. 3 won his 19th match in a row since losing to Novak Djokovic at the ATP Finals in November. At 22 years old, Sinner has become the youngest male player in the Open era to start a season with 16 successive victories. In another quarter-final match, Tommy Paul battled past Casper Ruud 6-2 1-6 6-3, reaching the semi-finals of an ATP Masters tournament for the second time in his career. Paul will face Daniil Medvedev in the semis who came from down a break in the second set against Holger Rune to get back on serve and then went on to secure a victory by e 7-5, 6-4 win in the quarter-finals of the Indian Wells for the second consecutive year. ✅️ Sascha won his third match at the Australian Open against Fearnley 6-3 6-4 6-4
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sascha continued this impressive form in the third round. Despite the tricky conditions, both with playing his first day match and with heavy wind, Sascha was able to advance in straight sets.
In the first set, both players held until 2-2. Sascha then held for 3-2, and then obtained three break points in Fearnley's next game, and when Fearnley hit the net, Sascha broke for 4-2 and proceeded to hold for 5-2. Fearnley held for 3-5, allowing Sascha to serve the set out 6-3.
At the start of set two, Sascha faced two break points in his opening game, but fortunately held for 1-1. Later at 3-3, Sascha obtained two break points on Fearnley's serve. Both were saved, but then after securing a third break point, Sascha broke for 4-3. Sadly, Fearnley then broke back for 4-4, but Sascha did not give up, and raised his level to break back instantly for 5-4 before serving the set out 6-4.
In the third set, both players held their opening games. Sascha broke Fearnley's second game for 2-1, but was sadly broken back for 2-2. And Sascha responded impeccably, breaking right back for 3-2 before holding for 4-2. Sascha then had four break points in Fearnley's next game, but he held serve for 3-4. Fortunately, the single break was sufficient, and Sascha later served the match out at 5-4 to seal the victory 6-3 6-4 6-4.
That was a very solid performance from Sascha in difficult conditions. He now moves into the fourth round, where he will face Humbert. Let's go, Sascha 🔥
