TFW I wish that I could find YGO Garage kits to paint. It's well and good to paint the monster models and the millennium Sarcophagus and puzzle, but I really want something like. Thief King Bakura. Or Yami Bakura. Or Yuugi. Characters that are less likely to get full-on kits. Unlike DMG who has a million and a half (no hate to DMG, but I really want to build and paint figures of my favorite guys)...

Do you think Kaiba tends to lose his composure around Jou more than when he's interacting with anybody else?
Kaiba dislikes most people and he gets angry a lot but it's usually a calm anger. Or when he raises his voice it's more out of passion (like when he's on one of his "ill be the greatest Duelist in the world" tirades). But with Jou he tends to yell and scream childish things like "shut up!"
Outside of Mokuba getting kidnapped, the angriest we see him is during his duel with Jou after Jou takes control of his BEWD. Even Jou pointed out he acted like he lost his mind in that moment. (I have separate thoughts about this moment I'll put in another ask)
It's funny and great for fic just how much this so-called ordinary person seems to bother Kaiba so much.
Me and other kaijou fans have touched on this in the past, but part of Jounouchi's ability to get under Kaiba's skin specifically, is the opposition of their characters to each other as narrative foils. Kaiba famously cannot stand to lose, equating loss with death. Once you lose, you should be effectively excised from the picture. Losing is a mark of weakness, and Kaiba hates to be seen or made to feel weak after a lifetime of clawing for power and influence for his own and Mokuba's protection.
But you know who loses? A lot? Rather often? Jounouchi. Jounouchi never stays down after each loss, though. Kaiba feels he absolutely should. He should've been able to write Jounouchi off after the first time he lost to him in Duelist Kingdom. But Jounouchi keeps bouncing back. And most infuriatingly (to Kaiba), he comes back a bit stronger each time (even if Kaiba really really doesn't want to acknowledge that fact).
Jounouchi shouldn't amount to anything. That's why Kaiba uses the insults he does for him: small fry, loser, mediocre. It's meant to cement Jounouchi's mediocrity and how he's not supposed to be special. Not like Kaiba, who is "smarter" and had to "work harder" for everything he has (not saying this is objectively true, but I do think canon!Kaiba is willingly blind to Jounouchi's struggles and efforts).
Jounouchi's existence and attitude challenges Kaiba's worldview, and that feels like a personal attack on Kaiba. If he acknowledges Jounouchi's worth, he might have to question his own and the way he has chosen to operate in this world.
And like you said, that culminates in the anime with their duel during Battle City (something that doesn't happen in the manga interestingly). Jounouchi has been hounding Kaiba for a duel for most of the arc, because he's itching to tackle the challenge, for even a chance to maybe make Kaiba eat his own words. Jounouchi fully knows that him losing to Kaiba is a significant possibility, but he doesn't let that dissuade him. He sees his own willingness to face those stronger than himself as an indication of his own progress and something that can help him grow his own strength.
And he finally gets that chance, when Kaiba is arguably at one of his lowest points after losing to Yami Yugi even with all the planning and the power of a God Card on his side.
Kaiba wasn't going into that duel with a sound mind. More importantly, I think part of him did it because he was confident he could beat Jounouchi and it would assuage his ego in some way.
No wonder he loses his mind when Jounouchi steals his beloved ace card. For a moment, it seems he might also lose again to Jounouchi of all people.
You can't tell me that wasn't a contributing factor to him blowing up Alcatraz after that. Emotional meltdown much? LOL.

Wordcount of the day: 526
It's so hard not writing duels in a Yu-Gi-Oh fic, especially when it's Atem versus Kaiba. Best I can do is imply the basic idea and have Kat just pretend like she doesn't GaF (since it's her PoV scene and she kinda doesn't, but that's besides the point).
I really wish I didn't suck so bad at the game and could remember how to play even Battle City format. Sadly it's been so long that I'm pretty much Duelist Kingdom level of the rules are made up and it might as well be D&D with cards.
I tried Master Duel and gave up when I needed Youtube vids just to get past the Pendulum tutorial. Haven't tried Duel Links yet.
I used to kick butt on the PS1 Forbidden Memories game. My ace monster was Firewing Pegasus. Amped it up by changing the field to Forest, then add Beast Fangs and Mystical Moon for even more power. Raigeki was another favorite card of mine too.
#writing progress#526#why do i gotta suck at the card game???#i feel so guilty not having descriptive duels between atem and kaiba!#does mentioning BEWD count?#i have a chess match and other video game references if it's any consolation#the chess match between kat and atem is still my fave#it's from the solas and iron bull mental chess match in dragon age inquisition#and is a play-by-play reference to the immortal game#takes place in the second half of chapter 20 on ffn for anyone curious

Reply-Replies to bewds & kissaritari: None Now Live Who Remember It
bewds
Yeah, you can respec once per difficulty with Akara at the Rogue Encampment. 😅
kissaritari
You also have the respec tokens you can cube from parts dropped by hell act bosses
We’re talking about an older version of the game :p They only added those options in 2010; largely, I’d suspect, in response to complaints like mine, which ppl had been making since release.
I mean I’m happy to hear they did EVENTUALLY fix this particular problem(which they made in the first place, and never had to exist, and which they emphatically refused to for 10 years), but for the entire off-and-on near-decade I was playing(I never looked back once Torchlight was an option, which is prbbl why this is the first Im hearing of it) the only respec available was starting a new character and losing all your progress. And this was just one of the numerous intentional problems with the game, included in the name of “Difficulty” and “Replayability”, which really just made it annoying and waste your time.

My brain just pulled it right now. I feel like Atem dating Kisara will be like a whole-- turn of events. It’s an unusual pair, mostly to me in a sense that with the way that the story progresses it would create lots of changes. Like-- having to duel Set while he has BEWD by his side and Atem just: ‘this is fine’. Also bc everyone sees Set with Kisara too. But anyways, maybe in our AU, otherwise I wouldn’t have them paired in other verses. They’re close in our AU so. I’m just unsure how will that go. Atem would defo not be the master of BEWD. BEWD answers to Set I imagine but?? Yeah, see, this is why I find it a bit difficult. But -shrug- also depends on what path the story of the AU will take and what relations will Kisara have to others, Set specifically. Favorite thing about them: Kind and polite. She’s gentle and good-mannered. Kisara is very good with animals as well, Atem admires it. Least favorite thing about them: Nothing.
#ooc.//#— ask replies.//#dragontamer05#did i just sort of anylize a whole ship for a sec-- well yes bc it hit me how much it'd impact the story and make changes#but I love Kisa so it's like?? Aaaa

Those Brothers They Call Kaiba.
I’ve done a fair amount of headcanon lists on this blog of mine, and given the fact that the past month was dominated by posts about my progress with Camp NaNoWriMo, I thought it would be a good palette cleanser to get back to my roots, so to speak. But this time, I’m not going to talk about a ship. This is about something a bit different.
This is about … well. The title pretty much covers it. Let it never be said that I don’t deliver on my premises. Or … something. Anyway. Let’s get to this.

Seto hates coffee shops. He thinks they’re a blight upon society. He views coffee as a routine caffeine injection, no frills, no bells, no whistles and, if he could get away with actually injecting it, he probably would. He has tried, on more than one occasion, to sue Starbucks.
Seto has a very specific coffee-drinking ritual. He lifts his mug in a specific way. He sips in a specific way. He talks in a specific way while imbibing. Mokuba has learned to mimic this sequence with downright eerie precision. Though he prefers hot chocolate.
The BEWD jet was not, in fact, a product of Seto’s obsession with dragons. Well, it was, but not fully. Mokuba once told his brother about a dream he had, about riding the Blue-Eyes out of Gozaburo’s clutches and just … flying somewhere else. Seto resolved to one day make his brother’s dream a reality. He succeeded.
Mokuba gets much better grades in school than Seto ever did, because Mokuba is actually able to devote time and attention to his education. Seto had to compartmentalize, and often would only do what was absolutely necessary to pass before turning his attention to other projects.
Both Kaibas are omnivorous readers. Seto prefers hardbound books. Mokuba prefers a Kindle.
Seto’s father used to sing sea shanties while doing housework. Sometimes, when Seto’s in the middle of some mundane chore, he can be heard humming jaunty little tunes under his breath. He pretends to have no idea what people are talking about if they ask him about it.
Mokuba sometimes gets his hair dyed various outrageous colors. He has tried to convince Seto to do it, too, but has so far been unsuccessful. He has convinced several Kaiba-Corp employees, however.
Mokuba, Rebecca, and Leon all attend the same school. Mokuba has been known to feed his friends various arguments he’s learned from Seto whenever they get into trouble. These arguments usually get them off the hook, but sometimes they have to call Seto in to do the yelling — er, talking himself. This is often the height of entertainment for all three of them.
Well, two of them. Leon is still a bit nervous about the whole thing.
Mokuba likes to play the drums, and has a kit set up in a miniature studio built off of the garage. Seto picked up guitar so that his brother would have someone to practice with. They’re both surprisingly good at their respective instruments, and have a rather large fan-base considering they’re both rather quiet about it.
Mokuba pitched, planned, and currently runs an in-house publisher for Kaiba-Corp to sell books, comics, and other forms of entertainment based on their IPs, called White Lightning Publishing. He specifically seeks out fan artists, fanfiction authors, and other creators to put together new projects.
Ryou Bakura is one of White Lightning’s most frequent, and popular, contributors.
As he gets older, Mokuba’s fashion sense gets more and more eclectic and … concerning to older, more conservative sorts. Seto not only allows, but encourages, this. However, when he absolutely needs Mokuba to put on something conventionally presentable for a meeting or similar function, Seto will ask his brother to “dress for the Muggles.”
Seto used to sing a lullaby to Mokuba every night when they were little. To this day, if Seto starts singing, Mokuba gets sleepy.

I regret nothing.

adorable. i love it. does he have giant bewd plushes for really terrible days where he sits on them as he codes. i dont care now thats canon. he has ginormous bewd cushion things that he sits on and taks to while doing code and they're the only things you will hear kaiba apologize to and sound genuinely remorseful
I think this is one of the things were as the seasons/years go on, he gives progressively less fucks about looking professional. (I mean remember in season 1, when he arrived at duelist kingdom on... a normal helicopter)
Like, it starts off as three bewds. Then he gets four more, each with little funny things like construction hats, or it's wearing a suit, or it's holding a little ball. And of course, he then gets ultimate bewd plushies and shining bewd plushies. Then finally, he gets the giant one that’s practically the size of a chair, and he will ocassionally relocate from his office chair and just code in a mound of blue eyes plushie.
[An actual blue eyes white dragon could eventually get him to apologize, but it would take more time and puppy eyes (which to everyone else but Kaiba don’t look significantly less threatening) since there is actually someone there judging him, which usually has the effect of him trying to throw up his defenses friend-be-gone up even higher]

Blog Loot Post March is the month of Yu-Gi-Oh~! Though I think DSoD really broke me...(in more ways than one.)
A few Yu-Gi-Oh! related goods I bought this month,
(1) DSoD Limited Edition BD (first press) - Comes with special ver. BD with extended commentary tracks, KC Construction keychain, Kudaragi gang t-shirt, a physical copy of Transcend Game, the Genga (animation progress) Artbook, 1st press limited Paladium Mahado TCG with KC holo, and 1 year subscription to Shounen+. (CD Japan) (2) YGO Folio - Yami ver - Could be better printed, but I like that there’s a hole for charm straps, and a slider for camera usage. (AmiAmi) (3) Movie Gold Packs and some individual singles (-Jump Rare BEWD). (Local) (4) Ita-Bag | Candy Lolipop in Black - More spacious than I thought it’d be, plus inner pocket compartment. (Ebay) (5) Sennen no Kioku artbook - Forgot to take photos but it’s the animation guide artbook. (CD Japan)
My favourite things from the goods set above are the extended cast commentary from DSoD’s Limited BD, the Genga artbook, and the animator’s credit list by episode in Sennen no Kioku. If I have time I’d like to talk about the individual animators.

Saw DSoD
I love how the movie is built, it feels like there's a lot to discuss, in fact we had a pretty long debate about Kaiba’s fate on NAC’s discord. Kuwabara did an amazing job because a Lot of times the visual design of the movie conveyed messages alongside the script, helping make these high-concepts easier to understand. Him and Takahashi worked really great together, and all the animators on board made a great job with how sharp and beautiful the movie became.
It's great, it was a very good, full story and I cannot wait to buy the bluray when it releases (to see the subs and catch whatever the dub couldn't convey) and see this again to enjoy it some more and catch more of the visuals. (Also Gaia looked very yuma-esque with his colors, nice.)
Under the cut some long ramblings
Dub-script: Felt pretty alright! There were some dialogue stuff (the eight millenium item!) that immediately pulled me out, but there were like two or three and very, very spread far in-between. Lots of added goofs but mostly just side-jabs, which honestly made the characters feel a bit fuller (my favorite has to be Tristan's "you're not crazy, you're just dumb" in the softest voice ever). There's a ton of high-concepts and it did an adequate enough job at presenting them, specially since most are told to us visually, but i'll touch on that later. Felt very true to the movie while keeping a tone similar to the original dub, kinda like Ocarina of Time 3D, it's not exactly the old thing bc the old thing has huge flaws, but it's how you'd remember it with its improvements. Yugi and Kaiba came out particularly well. I fucking loved Mokuba, I forgot that since thsi is the manga canon that means Mokuba is actually a good character. The story: Aigami ironically sorta has the problem Arc V has in which he is more of a walking theme than a villain, but his actions are so very important to everything, his motivations are crystal clear and relatable. Heck, you could make an argument that he shares the protagonist role along with Yugi, on the other side of the coin you can say that Kaiba is the protagonist. It's pretty interesting how Yugi is the only heroic dude here, but he gets the less amount of time because his character story is already told, so instead it's two extremely morally gray dudes with conflicting goals trying to do something for the wrong reasons. The expanded role Shadi gets was fairly surprising. I love that it turned out he was a ghost all along lol. Surprised that the evil/good item split wasn't used to explain away his questionable actions, he was just a friendly ghost who killed for good reasons. Guess it fits with the justice of the time. So the gift of prana was made possible thanks to him "defeating" death, pretty cool. I love, love that Prana Leaving is a self-fulfilling prophecy, and Aigami just gave reason for Atem to return and take it away. Super love the story, memories are such a big part of DM, so seeing it expanded as metaphysics and alternate worlds is a good-ass view. It's a good story, mostly playing with high-concepts and established characters. The prana stuff is overplayed since it's such a concept and a half for a 2 hour movie, but I love how firmly the rules are established and how they mesh with the journey our characters have had, particularly Jou being able to overcome the prana stuff thanks to his memory of Atem bringing his story full-circle, because despite being higher than humanity it still falls below the gods, below those who have truly ascended, thus even the memory of Atem is too powerful. The Visuals: really just gonna continue talking about the story next paragraph, but until then: the movie looks beautiful. The visual designs on everything look amazing, the expressions are lively, the movements are great, the colors were fantastic. The only thing I don't dig much is Anzu's designs, bit too waifu, but alas. Where the visuals truly shine is in telling the story. The opening shot just, god, just so good. I'm guessing the opening of it represents how memories can fade away to the light, to being forgotten, but the ones that persist make way for other memories to follow along and each is a world of its own. I want to link that to stories in general, the power of fiction is that to survive as memories, so while many get destroyed and become forgotten, those who survive make way to others, much like how the original yugioh manga survived being forgotten and allowed for an adaptation world to happen, and a world of Yugioh R, and the world/story of Gx, and its manga, and so on as the Yugioh franchise grows, but it's not even the start of that DNA sequence (also worlds that can survive being forgotten is the DNA of fiction itself, but that's just obvious given the way the worlds are presented) there were stuff before even the original yugioh story, such as what Takahashi used for inspiration. If Dragon Ball was in that DNA sequence, Journey to the West would be there as well above it, helping it survive and shaping it with what's forgotten and remembered of it. And after that metaphor we get the space bridge in the shape of the kaiba corp logo. lmao. There are so many visual things i'll probably just list them at random now: -There's one consistent element i just want to call "ascension", when golden particles happen to represent the powers of Prana, be it to teleport the kids or to send goons to other dimensions. And immediately after its first use we see the sands of egypt and yup, that's it, that's the whole thing, it's much like the sands of egypt, it gives shape to the land but it's not consistent, it changes and shifts and rapidly changes the landscape while it remains seemingly the same, it ascends like a pharaoh would. -Aigami vs Kaiba has one main element: Aigami's cards make the "ascension" happen to the crystal dragons, and it is so great even those seemingly timeless beings fall to it, because they are attached to this world's rules, then BEWD also falls to it, that is why Kaiba's deepest memory of holding power beyond mortals makes for a being greater than sand: stone. A stone so powerful it is above prana, and thusly the stone soldier of obelisk can defeat Diva's whole shenanigans even when they use this ascension to empower themselves or when they defy our laws by using cubes to make all sorts of curved shapes. -Aigami vs Yugi has the coolest representation of Aigami losing himself, with his final monster being much more man-made than anything else, it's just a creature with gears and a machine gun, no longer a being above humans. And Yugi so easily expects his anger it lets him play a triple combo that locks him into venting his rage to his own defeat. -Aigami vs Yugi and Kaiba has the latter two use a plague and technology to try and harm Aigami's creature, but it is too strong. It's also a good inverse, Kaiba is mostly tech-based but at that point he uses biological stuff to do harm and Yugi was more living-creatures-based but switches to technology, or rather progress. While Kaiba devolves in his desperate struggle, Yugi continues moving forward, which is important for what Kaiba does at the end. -Jou in his own memory world owns, the light destroying his memory ultimately falling to the power of his memory of dueling Atem at the end of Battle City is amazing. Having closure with Atem is such a good detail to show off. -Loved, loved LOVED that the space station/bridge was made just like the alcatraz island his dad had, just he uses it to go above war and such things and into a higher place. -ATEM LOOKED SO GOOD. He looked like his early manga self and that was amazing to see. Also just adding here, Takahashi's sequence looked awesome if overly detailed. -Loved how Atem's return makes things go normal by having all that "ascension" stuff go back to the ground, the sands of egypt return to how they should be instead of defying nature. Makes me think that the rain scene has a deeper meaning with how it's water that falls, but alas it eludes me. -Really dug the contrast with the darker "sand" stuff, showing seemingly straight-up death only by ring- oops, there's Kaiba. Going off to his techno-tomb, being sent from a place high-above to the ground, as he slowly dies but gets enough time to finally face Atem one last time, to get the memory he craves the most. He fucking dies, man. -Yugi says goodbye to another loved one who goes off to a place above. It's because she's leaving like Atem with going up to the heavens being another representation of the afterlife you guys. The score: was alright, pretty neat here and there.

Deck Leader Abilities
To view the abilities of each deck leader played by your opponent, place the cursor over the leader and push “triangle”. It will list the different abilities for the leader, most of which are only good in the leader’s sphere of influence (the area you can summon cards in). The following are a few abilities of cards not selected as deck leaders by computer opponents.
Kwagar Hercules (Insect): LTC- Increase strength for same type friendlies(+500 attack and defense to insects)Ancient One of the Deep Forest (Beast): CPT- Movement boost for same type friendlies. (Must be face up next to leader and then can move 2 spaces.) LTC- Increase strength for same type frienldies.Two-Headed King Rex (Dinosaur): 1LT- Movement boost for same type friendlies.Firewing Pegasus (Beast): CPT- Movement boost for same type friendlies.Launcher Spider: CPT- Increase movement for same type friendlies.
Reincarnate Card
If you surrender five times, you will be able to reincarnate a card in your chest which will allow you to build your deck.
Starter Decks
Depending on the name used at the start of the game, you will get a different type of starter deck. Try names such as Konami, Rod, or Puzzle.
Reincarnation Barrel Dragon
If you reincarnate Barrel Dragon, you will get three tough creatures or nice magics (for example, Sagna Of Thunder, Kazejin, Suijin, KaiserDragon, Harpies Pet Dragon, Skull Knight, Ryu-Ran, Coldwave, Solomans Lawbook, and Tremendous Fire).
Red-Eyes Black Metal Dragon
Have Joey summon it by combining his Metalmorph and his Red-Eyes Black Dragon. Defeat it, but you need to get the Red-Eyes Black Dragon and the Metalmorph in the slots.
Red-Eyes Black Dragon
To get the Red-Eyes Black Dragon, have Joey summon it. Defeat the Red-Eyes Black Dragon and get it in the Graveyard Slots.
Mirror Wall
Mirror Wall (80dc) is a powerful card. Use it against a Blue Eyes. If any card (in this case Blue Eyes) attacks any of your cards, its attack is cut in half, making a Blue Eyes ATK 1500. If the card attacks again, it will be halved again, (Blue Eyes ATK 750). Blue Eyes can now be killed by the weakest monsters in the game.
Building The Perfect Deck
If you are not familiar what cards will fuse with other cards, before you begin the campaign spend some time dueling Master K. Since he duels with your exact deck then you can learn about combos and what cards are best to use in certain situations. And after everytime you win against Master K, you can try for more cards that you already have but more of them. In my case I have a Celtic Guardian but also have three of the same power up cards giving him an attack power of 2900. That’s just one example of how to benefit from playing Master K. My best card is fusing a dragon with a thunder monster to make the twin-headed dragon with an attack of 2800. But add three bright castles and now we are talking about 4300 attack points. I have never been beaten yet.
Pegasus
Even though the game has been out like a week almost, people have asked how can you beat Pegasus? He’s too hard, so you can’t get all the White Roses. Well, no worries, if you ever beat him you’ll find out that he has no White Roses to give you, but I don’t think you can progress through the game without beating him.
Terrain Change
The best way to stay ontop of the Yu-Gi-Oh battles is to have terrain changing cards of course. The best deck to do this with though is a water based deck, so far they have the most terrain changing cards. The best one is the Aqua Dragon, which gets feild bonus everytime it goes into battle and changes the terrain to water.
Deck Selection
The deck you get depends on the name of your charictor. Try names like “konami”.
Cheats
