Hey what's up it's me with a special interest in weapons and I wanted to share my thoughts about Nikto's machete (no that's not an innuendo for once)

Had a bit of a solo-mandela effect going on because for the longest time I thought it had a modified 'billhook'-like feature on the back of it for whatever reason (but smaller than what would be considered a traditional billhook, more like a hoof pick blade).

I kind of enjoy still HCing that it does have it because a) it looks kind of cool and b) a terrifying thought to think this man whips this giant intimidating blade out, flips it deftly in his hand to the hook side, just to sink it into flesh and yank people back in when they try to run. Also it allows me to think about a scenario where, resident karambit knife enthusiast Sebastian Krueger, can teach proper blade hooking techniques to our beloved plural man. Anyway back to the knife - It's like a cross between a coup coup and a bola? But has a cool flare like a Tapanga for his newer mwiii model. Also like a vintage Senegalese french machete, which were known for their high quality (might technically be the same thing as the coup coup, just with the locale specified I think, both entrenchment machetes). That curve also kind of reminds me of parangs but it's not particularly drop-pointed.

I HC Nikto as a very brutally pragmatic but particular man, so it doesn't feel too far off to think that he went out of his way to acquire something niche like that. Some kind of custom-made machete that fits his needs just right. The length of it, as well as the curved, ergonomic grip makes me think he's gotten it to do some serious chopping, so it's also probably heavy and weighted forward to make that easier when swinging. I don't see him as a flashy fighter personally, and though maybe it was a stylistic choice for the game devs/artists, I think it's a neat feature that speaks to his character. I do think it's made of hefty steel; weight is important in chopping knives, and though steel rusts, it's sturdy compared to a lot of other metals. Not to mention - I feel like oiling and caring for his weapons, machete included, would be a ritual source of peace for his sometimes loud and chaotic mind. Grounding when he can feel the weight and texture where his nerves aren't completely damaged, smell the oil, have tangible proof that it's reality when he sees the maintained blade even after he becomes unmoored.

Now this is just me WAY reading too much into it, but it gives me a little giggle - The hole at the end of the handle is for a wrist lanyard, so you can loop a piece of paracord rope to secure it around your hand. It's an important safety feature just in case the machete goes flying out of your hand while chopping, lest it hit people in your vicinity (accidentally...?). In his 19 model, he doesn't have the paracord rope attached; Nikto says "Fuck your safety" but also huge ego of "I would never accidentally fling my knife!!"

Could also be because it gets caught on stuff if it dangles off his hip though - he's got one on his newer model where he wears the blade on his shoulder, which looks like a place where it's less likely to snag on things. Could also be because he's been increasingly featured in larger factions, so he works with more people and was asked to have one on hand maybe?? I don't know. In either case the knot in the middle of the rope makes it too small for his wrist which could also be read as a passive-aggressive "Here's the fucking safety rope it's on there ALRIGHT" and yet he's also made it nonfunctional for its intended purpose lmao Okay that's all byeeee

One year ago, I posted the first chapter of more than a footnote. I had hoped I'd have the final chapter ready by this date, but I'm still editing. It will be live very soon.

I've shared this before, but more than a footnote was only ever meant to be a distraction from a couple other wips that were giving me trouble last year. 5 chapters max, 16-20k. (lol) I love when characters surprise me.

Also unanticipated: Keris and Gareth. They were originally only gonna have a brief mention. I'm glad both decided to hang out a bit.

I'm proud of several lines throughout the fic but I think my absolute favorite is this one:

Dev, who moves like a cat, and fights like a bear, and whose smile is as sharp as a scythe but always feels like sunshine, and whenever I see it, I don’t want to look at anything else.

Okay, one more. I wrote this for chapter 9, and I'm in love with it *but* it might end up getting axed. Please enjoy it here.

I think of the Crucible pairing Niall and I together, and how immediately enchanted I was by his orange hair and his teeth too big for his head. How we had practically nothing in common, until we did, and we kept choosing each other, in assignments, in mischief, in friendship, until he became the most important person in my life.

I still love the cravens.

Fashion plays such a big role in this fic. While my personal style is more like Dev, I adore Niall's clothes. He's such a casual, preppy nerd. I think my favorite outfit of his is the "Sorbonne student" one during the spring dance. Everything oversized. His cuffed trousers. Fluttering sleeves by his bony elbows. And he looks so good in green, with his copper hair.

Niall is the oldest of the trio. His birthday is September 27 (which is a cube number and makes his brain happy). Dev's birthday is December 5. (Mutable. Fire. Sag baby.)

I've shared Dev's playlist before. I'm working on Niall's study mix. I hc that Niall enjoys a lot of different music genres, and he almost exclusively studies to synth and electronic music. Anything with a repetitive beat that can run in the background of his big beautiful brain. One of his favorite bands is Air, a French duo from the 90s, and he's been searching for their Moon Safari vinyl for years. (Dev finds it in a tiny record shop in London, and gives it to Ni the Christmas after they graduate Watford.)

I have an entire backstory of Niall's mums, Bridget and Paloma. I won't get into it here but DM me or send an ask if you ever want to know more. Same goes for my other OC Clark.

Did I have a secret motive to write a fic that would make people fall in love with Dev Pitch? MAYBE.

While writing, when a scene wasn't working, I'd go walk the dog and listen to a character playlist or song that fit the scene, on repeat, and just let my brain play, picking up pieces, seeing if they fit, working thru literal sentences in my head like those word fridge magnets. Without fail, this method worked every time. So the real MVP of this story is my dog.

Finally: It's difficult for me to finish wips. Because I self-sabotage with doubt. I'll have an idea and soft outline, but then once I get a few chapters in, I doubt the direction, the choices I've made, to the point where I freeze up and can no longer trust myself, or any creative choices. While I did have one notable plot point in this fic I doubted by the time I got to it (the bonfire scene) and I needed my betas to hold my hand, this story unfolded in the way I originally imagined. Far longer and richer and deeper than anticipated. And certain scenes evolved and shifted. But the overall arc stayed. This might be the first time I’ve finished something in which I trusted my writing instincts. Even when it was hard. Even when I thought nobody is gonna like this or that. I stayed the course, and allowed the characters to take me on side quests. The process both structured and flexible.

At times, the French localised script is different from the eng one, but I've heard this game's eng localisation was discussed a bit so...

I guess as long as there's nothing on the level of Rhage I won't be bothered, granted I'm not over analysing characters and writing serious posts about them yet lol

So far, Ilenia was a badass and would have put Fado to shame, instead of waiting for her execution on her throne, she takes some people with her and launches an attack at the enemy commander to act as a diversion while her son escapes. And then we have a redux of the scene where Finn escapes Leonster castle smuggling his young prince away.

I'm half wondering if not rescuing Scarlett will spare me from jiggle physics because the only other female character I have now definitively doesn't have them, but given how the protag wants to save her...

Alain, on the true and tried fe tradition, beats red units to later recruit them, I can't wait to recruit more people lol.

Non plot wise... The artwork/background/even clothes and armors for the characters are pretty and while I know I'm old, I still don't understand why some devs insist on giving us weird af 3D models when you can still do beautiful and awesome models/graphisms in 2D.

The battalion sort of system makes a frightening amount of sense, and while I know FE is FE so gameplay wise it would have been really complicated to put in place, but I legit can't imagine for hcs or even fics ideas Fodlan now without a similar system lol

Now, some things to know about Skeleton Staff/Skele and The Trigger Warnings!

His gear is the Skeleton Bone Staff, which allows him to conjure up skeleton minions and manifest bones to fight! (Yes I was an UnderTale fan shut up lol)

Skeleton Staff uses He/Him pronouns

He’s 6’9, tall fellow!

He’s 23 years old

He was spawned on October 31st!

He knows both French and Latin!

He has no faction so he lives in Crossroads or where ever Ghostwalker goes

He has wings and a ‘halo’ like his father!

Speaking of Ghost, he and Skeleton have a good relationship where Skele is respectful and loyal to his father, who is still actively training and teaching him!

He really has no negative thoughts on his divine family as he RARELY goes to any of them, but a shared opinion for the Swords is he thinks they go on without yelling all the time because he thinks they’ll bring the Inpherno’s downfall- But, he doesn’t mind his cousins and is willing to interact with them, but he unnerves them!

Still going on with family, there’s a little bit of OCxCanon here, but Skele actually has a mama named Quill and she’s a goth fiction writer! She might show up here! No one is actually sure how she’s with Ghostwalker and worse, Skele doesn’t even know either-

He’s very reclusive and tends to keep to himself, though he has a few demons he is close too, he will become someone nervous when meeting new faces

Skele loves collecting gothic novels since he primarily likes to spend his time reading various gothic fiction and horror novels! Skele is a proud goth himself, like his mama!

I hc Ghost to have hair that float/acts like his wings, so Skele’s hair floats and fades as well!

He likes to collect odd statues and dead creatures, such as stuffed (dead) creatures and bones!

Other Phighters and demons in general are often put off by Skele’s eerily apathetic demeanor along with his heritage!

Skeleton Staff is capable of foreseeing deaths or events some time before they occur. He hasn’t told this to anyone but his father and wonders if he can train it further

He owns three cats consisting of two hairless cats called Styx (female) and Charon (male) and a black cat called Acheron (male). The cats like to leave Skele gifts of animals! He adds them to his collections

Skele has albinism! This works in my headcanon by his horns being presented as a light pink and his eyes being presented as reddish pink. Due to this, he is highly sensitive to sunlight and is nearsighted!

Speaking of his horns and eyes, they have his father’s X eyes but as red pupils and he often dyes his horns a light gray but, as stated above, they are actually light pink!

Yep, I think i'm decided, I fucking give up.

I'll be hc'ing RT600 as Research Turing gen 6° and RK200/800/900 as Research Kamski gen 2°, 8° and 9° for the lack of knowledge bout english and french names. This "K" is in various models names but i just don't know what it is, so i gonna say "Kamski" (in this specific situation) here for now.

Although Kamski ain't involved directly in RK800/900, he's def involved in RK200 dev, no doubt. And CL def used lotta codes and systems from Kamski thru the yrs after he got out. Every android got Kamski's touch, that's how shit works. He's The Creator™️ after all.

And that's why any android since gen 1° can deviate. Kamski shit got a small piece of failure that later evolved into Software Instability/Emotions then Deviancy and nobody found a way of fixing it, or they didn't want to fix it cuz the % of happening was too low, or maybe some people let it happen to know how it goes. We'll never know.

I don't think was on purpose, like, they really hard coding programming SI and deviancy on purpose, but they surely didn't fix it for real later. Maybe Kamski tried doing something similar (sentient androids with free will) with the whole Autonomous Project thing but CL wanted this shit for other purposes and in the end SI/Deviancy wasn't something really official, only an anomaly that ain't got explored further. Or maybe it was for a period of time and they gave up.

After all CyberLife wanna sell stuff, Kamski wanna be a revolutionary.

But one thing I'm certain: CyberLife knows bout deviancy being inevitable cuz it's too late to "fix" millions of androids, but I don't think they know where the anomaly originated from and how (in details) is the proccess, they just know it happens - after all it's an anomaly IN MY OPINION. Not something really programmed but something that happened under specific conditions like a mutation from a loose end or a program hole.

But in the game CyberLife managed to still get in contact with the RK800 even if they go deviant, when this type of connection is supposed to suffer interference or even dc. Ah, man, mfs literally made an android that can pretend be a deviant one. This is Connor in non-deviancy status, bro, this is the level of "they fucking know about deviancy". Maybe was the only thing they discovered they could do, also opening a door called "remote delete and reset in the perfect moment".

Curiously CL didn't removed the exit from ZG. I'm certain this is Kamski's shit (canon) and all ZG versions had a manual exit (canon). As I hc ZG is actually independent from RKs in a CL server, makes sense being a manual/forced exit.

I talked bout that before. Everytime an android is in ZG they enter "stasis" irl, they can't be active in both places at same time, so what happens when u trap someone inside a connection? They lose control of the "physical" body and other parties can have access. Connors can disconnect normally from ZG but not when it's a forced call like this where he ain't got power to get out, it's blocked by normal means. That's why we got a manual exit in ZG - to force a dc when this "trap" is detected and give the control back to the android. Ain't from Connor's end, it's from ZG's end.

What the RK800/900 got is a bridge, not the ZG per se. Maybe this manual exit is so powerful it makes the bridge stop working on Connor's end? Maybe, idk. I hope so, like blocking all connections coming from specific address, especially forced ones. Maybe it can also grant the RK full admin control over call con and dc? I don't know. Only thing I know is this emergency exit seems to be from ZG's end, idk if it alters something in Connor's end. Should, tho.

If something like this was made by Kamski he indeed knew remote control of androids was going to be a thing, and for someone like him, that wanted androids to be the perfect species with unlimited intelligence and free will, being controlled by "narrow minded humans and 'em shady deals" and being trapped in digital probably didn't sound good. But curiously CyberLife didn't remove or altered this manual exit in the next ZG versions, not even the future Amanda versions could fight with it, but I bet the AI knows what it is - that's why I got doubts about CL not knowing about the exit.

Maybe they didn't expect shit to really work? Or maybe they made a huge bet a deviant Connor, being conditioned to have fear of failure, would submit to Amanda cuz "there's no other choice, another way to run" and "everything was planned" (kinda the suicide/give up situation in one of the endings). It's a possibility.

So yeah, I hc Zen Garden (or other older names) is an old thing back from this research project (back with Markus and prior events) or maybe even older and they used, later CL taking it from Kamski - it's a meeting room. But meeting rooms always leaves tracks and contain tracks, inputs being made. And he got this manual exit not only cuz u always got have emergency tools in your software but cuz he knew the ZG could be used for... questionable stuff in the future. When he found out or he knew it would happen? Idk.

That's my hc for now while i don't find anything more.

Alright now that its officially Forzen Friday let's try this post again since it didn't show up in the tags last time-

I'M FINALLY MAKING A FORZEN HC DUMP (kinda AU-ish territory but not really idk exactly) AND NONE OF YOU CAN STOP ME

There are also a few other hcs sprinkled in here related to other characters (like Darnold and Sunkist for example) but Forzen is the main focus!! Despite him being a minor character I latched onto him and fleshed him out sm yall have no idea

Everything under the cut bc this shit is gonna be LONG (and there's also some more doodles that take up a bit of space!)

Also uhh if people like this I might take one for another hlvrai character later bc I have a lot to say about everyone!!

Forzen moved from France to the US with his parents when he was around 12 or 13 (yes, I'm aware that Scorpy and Holly are French Canadian and not France French but that doesn't mean Forzen can't be, I'm just being sure to say this now before someone says something to me about it)

He wanted to go to college and eventually become a game dev, but he didn't have the funds or the support for it (his family thought anything to do with games would amount to a career that would go nowhere).

Because of this, he instead was recruited in the US military. He originally had no intent to join, but after constantly being harrassed recommended to join and being entertained with the concept of being able to afford and pay for college, he caved (hence him telling the science team that his only goal is "to graduate").

He doesn't like his job very much if that wasn't clear.

And neither do most others that have the same job like him.

He was put on a "team" of his own, Team Nice, which was likely arranged as a guaranteed way to get Forzen in the way of danger, and with no one else fighting beside him, he would be easily dealt with- no one would have to worry about him bothering them again. However, he somehow manages to survive all of this, of course. Somehow. He likely knows the real reason he was assigned his own team (if you can even call it that), but refuses to fully acknowledge it for his own sanity, and instead pretends that he's some big, important person on a team that ranks so highly, he's the only one qualified to be in it. (I apologize ahead of time for giving one of the most shitposty and throwaway characters in hlvrai this much depth and angst, there was just potential there leave me alone)

Fast forward to the actual events of hlvrai though. This hc is a little outlandish but I really like the concept!!! So, at one point, Forzen is killed, presumably by some kind of creature that was out and about due to the RenCas. The science team + Benrey stumble across him (act 2 part 2 at around 13 min in for anyone curious), and Benrey decides to use the healing beam Sweet Voice on him. While Benrey and Forzen may not be on good terms anymore, Benrey still very begrudgingly cares about him and didn't want to see him get injured or die. Forzen wakes up a minute or so after the science team exits the room, assuming that he just passed out, nothing more, and goes along with things as normal.

He meets Darnold a while after his first (concious) run in with the science team. Darnold has recently dealt with the science team and helped them out, but is pretty bummed that he couldn't travel with them, as everything was far too scary and dangerous for him. Forzen, wanting to escape Black Mesa and the military altogether, ends up making a deal with him that he'll handle all the dangerous stuff if Darnold can show him a way out.

Now, meeting Darnold is a very new experience for him, since Darnold actually enjoys his company, and actually wants to befriend him! At first, Forzen openly tries to act as if Darnold is a huge deal to put up with- he goes along with with the whole "if you're escaping outta this hellhole with me, you better keep up" kinda deal (despite the fact that he kinda NEEDS Darnold to escape and show him the way out). His walls are still very much so raised, and he doesn't let his guard down as he's not used to others caring about him and his safety. But as time passes, he begins to realize that maybe Darnold DOES want to be his friend, and the tough guy act becomes less apparent.

To preface this next one- Sunkist sensed that something was up (he has a next-level sense of danger when it comes to Tommy's safety) and got to BM as fast as he could, searching every hallway for his boy. This is when Forzen finds him!! He figures that taking Sunkist as a hostage would be enough to get extra info out of the team that's been practically plaguing him lately.

Darnold doesn't know about Forzen's plans to take Sunkist hostage, so is completely fine with traveling alongside him. At one point though, Forzen and Darnold get separated (Forzen occupies him, makes sure hes safe and then runs off to deal with Sunkist). Darnold immediately uses his surroundings to model a quick little teleporter device to get Forzen back, because, you know, the man's a genius. Idc if its logical or not just go with it shhh I've gotta fill in the plotholes with something. That's why Forzen disappears all of a sudden after he's cornered by the science team. He just pops back in front of Darnold suddenly, all confused and loopy from the whole teleportation thing.

As things begin to wind down, Darnold and Forzen make it out of BM and start making a break for it, no idea how they'll get away from BM and to safety somewhere- they didnt really think things through.

Fortunately (or unfortunately for Forzen really), however, G-man picks both of them up. He means to drop Darnold off at Tommy's party, as he observed that Darnold helped his son to safety and is grateful for it. Forzen, though, he intends to "deal with" for messing things up so badly with Tommy, Sunkist, and all of Tommy's friends. This is where Darnold finds out about everything Forzen did and frankly gets really pissed with him since he thought he only had good intentions??? Luckily though, Darnold convinces G-man to give him a second chance, let him go to Tommy's party and apologize, and try things again. G-man, for some reasons agrees- probably bc hes in a good mood, as it IS his son's birthday.

The party is pretty uncomfortable to say the least. Tommy's extremely hesitant to talk to Forzen, but he does, and they end up on neutral terms by the end of it. Uneasy, but neutral. Tommy and Darnold hit it off though, and Tommy opens the invitation to Darnold that he can visit his place anytime now that everything at BM is over with.

As everyone's getting ready to leave, Forzen mentions to Darnold that he doesn't have a place to stay, seeing as the entire military was kinda. Yknow. Wiped out. Obviously wouldn't wanna go back to check anyways. And he has no interest in going home to his parents. So Darnold agrees to let him stay with him since they've become good pals over the course of everything.

Over time, Darnold visits Tommy more and more often. He starts bringing Forzen along, which Tommy is iffy of at first, but their dynamic starts to change and become more comfortable once Tommy sees that Forzen isnt interested in being enemies anymore.

Sunkist and Forzen still don't get along for a very long time. Or, well- it's moreso that Sunkist is very wary about Forzen, despite him not doing anything to harm either Sunkist or Tommy.

Oh yeah and almost forgot to mention one of my favorite hcs (that I PROMISE you started out as a joke but then I got attached) is Sunkist can talk!! So his first spoken interaction with Forzen after Forzen comes over to visit for the first time is literally just him being all threatening and laying down the ground rules bc he doesn't want Forzen to hurt Tommy at all in any way. And of course Forzen about has a heart attack bc "HUH??????? THERE'S A DOG THAT IS SPEAKING HUMAN WORDS TO ME"

UHH I HAVE MORE (I've written out so much shit about dynamics and what I'd think would happen even after all of this) BUT I DON'T WANT THIS TO BE TOO LONG like it already is SO I SUPPOSE I'LL LEAVE IT AT THAT FOR NOW!!!! Hc that the entirety of NSR takes place in Malaysia

I mean— DK West speaks Malaysian, Zuke talks back in Malaysian, Mayday understands everything word they say when they speak Malaysian, also apparently DK West’s entire theme is based on Malaysian mythology which I didn’t even know existed

Also I know the game is from Malaysia, (I’ll be honest with you,,, I thought it was French,,,, Cuz I remember a comment back when NSR was in its demo phase saying the game was made by French devs,,, that’s why I thought Zuke and DK West we’re speaking French—) but whatever it’s just cool to think about Lol

Even though I’ll play sometimes when a new league drops, path of exile has a couple of fundamental problems that prevent it from being as good as it theoretically is.

In other words, it could be the best game in its genre (arguably is), hack & slash? looter? diablolike? but instead there comes a point when I can’t play anymore just because it bothers me.

It goes like this. PoE should let you play without logging into a server. That’s it. Biggest problem the game has is that it is an always online game. I understand that it’s free, the company makes money of cosmetics, tabs and lootboxes. But I don’t care, it makes the game worse.

This might be because I play HC, so all the issues are worse for me, but desync, lag and the servers straight up dying should not matter. You are playing on your computer, you should not lose a character because of internet/server issues.

The other problem is balance, which is also affected by being an always online game.

So for a bit of context, PoE will release leagues every few months. In each league there will certain mechanics that after it ends they might become part of the base game. Latest league was crucible, which introduces a high tedium/low risk/extremely low reward mechanic. On the announcement, the devs put up a race to kill uber exarch and uber eater of worlds, two endgame bosses, on SSF HC ruthless.

Only two people have been able to do it:

SSF means solo self found, as in no trade with other players.

HC means hardcore, permadeath (as above).

Ruthless is a relatively new mode with way lower drops and less mobility available.

During the race, I was watching here and there a few of the runners that streamed. There is this one french player that died a few times. Death / Death.

The two deaths above are very interesting because mathematically he could not die on those two situations.

On the first one, he dies to Thane’s jump attack. There is like several problems with this though. First one, Thane is the enemy that jumps AFTER he dies (desync). You can tell because he got ignited and the only enemy that can do that is Thane. Second, Thane’s jump attack does not do enough to kill him, even taking into account the extra buffs he’s got and if he got critted. And finally, he’s got so many layers of defense, including a 2000 HP shield that even if the hypothetical damage was enough he could still survive.

Second one he dies to a proyectile that doesn’t actually hit him (desync) and once again the attacks does not do enough damage and he’s got too much effective HP that it would not matter.

Yet. He died both times. One shot by attacks that cannot kill in one hit.

Now I don’t participate in those races, they require too much time. But you can see the problem when a character has so many defensive auras/effects and still dies like that. Late game poe is full of moments like this, where you breeze through enemies until something offscreen instakills you.

And I really would not mind that kind of thing if it weren’t for the always online problem.

Still PoE is a very very fun game, as long as you are not playing HC or doing something “serious”, because your progress gets cut by things like this all the time.
