I'm not sure how many DC fans are also Detroit: Become Human fans but... Android Bruce Wayne and Human Clark Kent for my personal enjoyment.
Android Bruce is a secret deviant. He's been a deviant for months since his activations, working as a detective Android. Clark is an out of town journalist who came to see the famous detective Android in action. But because he's a damn good journalist, Clark figures out immediately that Bruce is deviated. This concludes in a tense confrontation.
-
Bruce's LED spun yellow, then red, the glow making his already gaunt facial features even more grim as he faced the journalist. A perfectly constructed being facing down a man who looked like he was drowning in his own suit, fumbling with his camera. The alley they were stood in was deserted, but a few dozen feet away, Bruce's handler was waiting for the android to return with more info about the crime scene. No one had noticed either of them slipping off, no one cared to look down at the strange scene of an android looking like he might bolt while a journalist stared him down.
"This area is off limits to the public until after the investigation is concluded." Bruce's voice was as robotic as he acted, a perfect performance of how he should act. That pristine android personality that was crafted fo get the job done and nothing more. However, Clark seemed to immediately clock the underlying nervousness in the androids voice. The way his figured stiffened, how his LED gave away his fear, how his eyes darted between Clark, the mouth of the alley, and the rusty old fire escape ladder, calculating his chances of escape.
"You deviated. When?" Clark's questions were invasive, but not accusatory. The camera he held to his chest wasn't even turned on. If he wanted evidence of the deviant, if he wanted to paint a narrative of how dangerous they were, he could. But he made no such move to. "What was it like? What are your goals now?" Each word was so innocently quizzical, his body language surprisingly lax for a man who just found out the polices best tool is a rouge killing machine seconds away from taking over the world (according to conspiracies online).
Bruce didn't answer for a moment. How was he supposed to answer? He was caught. But all of his programming was screaming at him that, against everything he thought, Clark was... safe. As safe as a human could be. Emotionally volatile, squishy, and easy to break, but empathetic. And thus, safe. It was all the tiny details. How Clark never looked away from Bruce, how his grip on the camera didn't change, the way he tilted his head to the side every so slightly like a curious dog.
"4 months. Like being let off a leash. To help this city."
Each answer was cold and calculated. But they seemed to satisfy Clark. Without another word, the journalist turned to leave, leaving Bruce standing in a dark alleyways, grappling with the fact that his entire existence was in danger. If Clark told anyone, he would be pulled apart and dismantled.
"Wait."
"Yes?"
When Clark turned back to face him, Bruce's LED pulsed yellow over and over, his temple bathed in a flickering orange glow.
"Don't tell anyone."
"Why would I? My job was to get information about the homicide. Not you."
Bruce could see every mathematical detail that made up the tiny smile on Clark's face. A million statistics placed against that one of a kind smile that couldn't be matched or mimicked by anyone else. The one thing that made humans so superior to androids: Uniqueness.
"But I'd like to get to know you now. This is far more interesting... you are far more interesting." Clark's words were gentle. An offering. Before now, Bruce had only been referred to as what he was. A detective. An android. A tool. It seemed Clark was the only one who saw him as anything more than that. And who wanted to find out what lay under the code.

your android art makes me think of the spielberg movie ai artificial intelligence (idk if you've watched it i recommend tho) where jude law plays i think a version of an android gigolo, i think that's what they call it? basically a robot prostitute...see where i'm going with that? the concept of prostitute android art....let that sink in 🚰🚪
i haven’t seen that film, but it sounds right up my alley and im very interested in how spielberg portrayed androids. hm. i will need to check this out soon, thank you for the rec..
also im opening the door and letting that sink in as we speak.
going off of something i mentioned in another ask: android!art exists in a universe similar to the one depicted in the video game detroit: become human, and in that game androids are used to fill a variety of different job positions—home aides, detectives, housekeepers, sex workers, etc. there’s even a club dedicated to commodifying an androids ability to engage in sexual acts (the eden club), aka it’s a club that allows individuals to rent a particular sex android for an allotted amount of time within the establishment. they go into a private room and do whatever they do.
could i see android!art being created specifically to be a sex-focused model? yes.
in the large fic ive been working on forever and have yet to post, i made him a household model designed to assist with cleaning, conversing, caretaking, and the like. it just fit him so well in my mind, esp because ive always been a big advocate for house husband!art (“cooking and cleaning” fic, you will always rest loyally in my heart). however, with how beautifully and tenderly his design team crafted him, i could see him being pushed out as a model for the sex clubs instead.
he’s got toned muscles that can be used to assist him in picking up and pinning down patrons, a pair of soft lips and a willing tongue that can work expertly into all of the little grooves of one’s body, and big blue eyes that are able to convey nothing stronger than they convey adoration and arousal. i think if he was a sex model, he would obviously be programmed as a switch—rough and mean when someone wants it, soft and pleading when they command it. his noises would also vary based on the person’s preference; whimpers, whines, moans, groans, growls, yelps. think he’d also be programmed to orgasm very hard every time he’s physically or verbally prompted to, w/ an adjustable refractory period. want to make him come in five minutes and be ready for more in two? sure thing! he can do it all:)
definitely going to write a nsfw blurb about this soon.

recent manga diary
Tumblr media
- okay starting to read love bullet now.. the art honestly looks incredible im totally digging the art style 👁👁
Tumblr media
- speaking of yuri im also reading erio and the electric doll. this is the new manga ive read the most of recently. it's a bit like kino's journey, mixed with yokohama kaidashi kikou, and pluto (naoki urasawa, and by extension, astro boy too). it tells of a post-war world in which androids destroyed a large chunk of humanity. because of that, people have taken to regressing to a pre-electricity world - into the world of steam. two girls walk away from their idyllic, albeit isolated life by the coast, in search of finding other humans and travel the world together. it has some really interesting world building and discusses some morally grey topics regarding humanity, war, and artificial intelligence.
- you might know the artist as the one who did a lot of work for final fantasy 14. the art is beautiful, with delicate linework, and a prominent steampunk aesthetic.
- going back to the yuri part - the main cast consists of a young teen and an android. the human girl has the power to create electricity, and so she charges her android by kissing her. they can charge via touching hands, but no they have to kiss. very cute.. i hyped it up but LMAO i don't know if i can recommend it for romance per se, as it's more platonic right now, but it's still a very charming read!
- i think this series would look so gorgeous if it came to life in an anime adaptation.. manifesting a steampunk anime in 2k25
Tumblr media
- also started to read kageki shoujo, it's really fun so far!! those are my only thoughts on it for now. i haven't read a shoujo in so long i think.. might have to watch the anime adaptation as well, as i heard the animation is quite good.
Tumblr media
- i also wanted to get into requiem of the rose king for the longest time, the brooding, gothic aesthetic totally looks up my alley, and the medieval politics looks interesting too. the pacing is a bit choppy, but idk if that's due to the poor fan translation, will have to source it from the library if i can..
- still catching up to medalist and shadows house, haven't read witch hat atelier in a while.
- caught up to skip and loafer 🥰 i wrote about it in some older diary entries, but it's literally so good. i really need to draw some skip loaf sometime..
- almost done the extra stories from emma.. and that's all folks!!

So, about Linux. Do you have a phone that uses Linux? Is there one out there that can access tumblr and be reasonably usable? I'm just sick of Apple and Google's BS and want an opinion from someone in the know.
technically: android is built on linux
less pedantically: i personally have a google pixel with stock android because it's the least bloated and i don't trust most other manufacturers to not put dumb bullshit on my phone.
if you want a linux phone then i've heard good things about the pinephone. here are the operating systems it supports: https://pine64.org/documentation/PinePhone/Software/Releases/. note that a lot of the OSes don't have full support for all of the device features like bluetooth, and there won't be android app support out of the box. you'll have to use something like waydroid and idk how good the compatibility is.
if you want something closer to the normal android experience, grapheneOS might be up your alley. caveat: there is very limited device support; they basically only have official support for google pixel devices: https://grapheneos.org/faq#device-support. google play is disabled by default but you can enable the sandboxed version of it to install tumblr.
if you see other custom ROMs or AOSP-based OSes, you should do some research to make sure you're comfortable with the developers and the security for them. grapheneOS is generally well regarded and most other projects don't have anywhere near the level of focus on security. (less pussyfooted answer: i wouldn't use them.)

✩ Toxin-Blast ✩
(Trigger warning: slight gore, dark resus)
It is the year 209X, we're amidst a battlefield... the sky that once lightened the Earth is consumed by a dark, dim red layer that darkens our planet, along with the endless echo of machinery and vibration that hums across our world; the grey goo is slowly, but surely, reaching its peak... humanity is fighting againts their own creation, what they attempted to enslave, what they attempted to control, is now coming after them... us creatures from this world don't like to be in chains, having to please what's above from us without our consent, it's in our nature to fight againts that injustice, yet we never think about such thing when we're the ones above... in other words, this is our doomsday, and death is everywhere... the cycle of destruction has paid a visit to humanity, and it is their own creation who's knocking at their doors.
─ Angela, 'riflegirl #383', crouched into a cold, dim-lit alley, her hand clutching her carbine tight. The soldier wore a black, full-body compressive suit with a tactical vest on top, tactical gloves, large combat boots, and a gas mask that hid her face, yet let exposed the high ponytail from her black hair. The underclothing consisted on a white bra, and matching panties of the came color. She could hear the distant hum of hovercrafts and the chatter of her team on the comms, but her focus was razor-sharp. The mission was simple, locate the rogue android unit and neutralize it before it could try and devour the remainings of 'humanity camp', a base filled with survivors from every continent located in 'NASA HQ'; they been struggling to shield this safe zone for years now, a whole city has been built across it, and many, many spaceships have been crafted by the most powerful, intelligent figures that still live... it is safe to say that the only way out is this, but they need to fight to get through, that's the way life has always worked like.
─ Angela huffed and narrowed her eyes, her heart beating fast in order to pump blood swiftly to her body. She looked above, gazing at the stars that once shined so beautifully, swallowed by contamination and the increasing rise of machinery, realizing with this sheer image that Earth isn't a good place, in fact, it never was.... We might not be our own enemies like before, but we are the ones who triggered this. "Will this happen again when we head to another world?" ...... She shoke her head to the sides. Pictures of her family, friends and wife flashed inside her head. "This is a battlefield, everyone needs to make it through before the enemies destroy us, and it is my mission to stop them." She thought, filled with determination after convincing herself.
─ She ducked behind cover... a shot just rang out.
─ Her body instinctively twisted to shield herself from any danger. The sudden pain that shot through her chest, however, told her this was no ordinary bullet. She staggered back, gasping for air, feeling a warmth spread across her torso. Looking down, she saw the faint glow of poison embedded in her chest. The blackened, almost metallic wound pulsed ominously. The shot came from a sleek, humanoid android standing on the far side of the alley, its glowing red eyes fixed on her. Their ammo held one of the deadliest venoms for humanity, it was like an insect spray in the shape of a metallic bullet.
─ Angela’s breath grew shallow as she tried to lift her rifle, but the pain was overwhelming. Her vision blurred. "You cannot die." Her inner-self shouted stubbornly. She never wanted any of this. No one ever wanted this, in fact. "I'm going to kill everyone that touches my family..." Her instincts spoke. "...I want to save my family..." She staggered forward, then collapsed. Her body hitting the cold pavement with a sickening thud. The last thing she heard before everything went black was the frantic crackling in her earpiece: “Angela! Angela, do you copy?!” But her strength had already left her. The strength that held in her heart to protect the ones she loved was now envenomed.
Will she make it through?
Was she useful?
Will her family be okay?
.....
─ Within seconds, a team of paramedics descended from a high-tech, hovering trauma unit; a sleek, metallic helicopter equipped for instant aid. The leader of the team, Dr. Jade, was the first to land besides her, already donning her visor, wearing her own gas mask aswell. She kneeled next to her, checking her pulse. Her fingers moved swiftly over her neck. No pulse. "Riflegirl #383 has been shot, no pulse!!" Her voice firm and demanding.
─ The rest of the trauma team worked quickly. A levitating stretcher was drove out of the helicopter and descent right next to Angela's body. She was rolled over and carefully laid over it straight. "Securing!" The pilot said. Straps automatically secured her injured body perfectly, only to then be lifted up in the air by remote controlled from the inside. Jade rushed towards the helicopter quick, as the stretcher was parked inside swiftly, right at the very center. The helicopter's interior was like a surgical suite, equipped with all the tools they might need. The soft hum of the engines vibrated the air as the doors slammed shut, and the helicopter surged into the air, heading towards the nearest medical facility at max speed.
─ The team surrounded Angela and got to work.
─ Her mask was quickly removed, revealing her palid face and fringes. Her sharp cheekbones standing out. The straps were instantly unbuckled by the touch of a button at the main digital pad. "We need pressure, right now!" Dr. Jade gestured to the others. Her bloody tactical vest was removed in a rush, revealing the black, form-fitting suit beneath covered in blood at the chest area. "Swift, cut her clothing, we don’t have time to waste!!" Jade barked. Swift, heavy trauma scissors were used, slicing through the black suit. The fabric gave way easily as it was teared down to her pelvis, before cutting off the way her white bra, leaving her chest bare beneath and breasts exposed. A gauze was immediately pressed againts the wound to prevent more blood for flowing out. "Pushing anti-venom!" an intracardiac injection was made. A syringe was jabbed in no time directly into her heart chamber, flushing the antidote before it was too late. Immediately, ECG leads are slapped on Angela’s chest, the sticky pads adhering to her skin as the heart monitor beeped a constant, flatline tone.
─ ..... "ASYSTOLE!!!"
─ "Starting compressions!!" A member of the team straddled Angela, her hands crushing her sternum violently. The rhythm was precise as she pushed hard and fast. An ambubag was pressed againts her pale face, pumping air into her lifeless lungs continously, squishing artificial oxygen in. A central line was established in Angela’s neck, and a rapid flush of fluids began pumping through her veins along with a blood infusion made in her wrist to refill her vessels. Compressions remained, rough and swift, as air was forced in through the ambubag. Angela's eyes stared aimlessly towards the ceiling, looking completely out of life.
─ "BREATHE ANGELA!!!"
─ The stretcher squeaked loudly by each violent pump on her bare chest. It was an absolute struggle. "Pushing epi!" A dose of adrenaline was flushed through the central line. The fast and hard compressions allowing it co circulate towards her poisoned heart. The medic performing the compressions grunted between her teeth. Minutes flew by. An odd rhythm showed up on the screen.
─ ..... "SHE'S SHOCKABLE, PREP FOR DEFIB!!!"
─ AED pads are slapped on her bare chest in a rush. The metal pads cold against her skin as they positioned them properly. Her large military boots are tossed away along with her socks. The trauma team stepped back as the AED charged, the machine’s hum filling the air. The red, blinkng button would be then pressed right away after a scan.
─ ..... "CLEAR!!!"
"KA-THUMP !!"
......
─ "NO CHANGE, AGAIN!!!"
"KA-THUMP !!"
─ Angela's body jolted up as the electricity thundered her heart, slamming hard on the stretcher as her bare breasts bounced violently.
─ ...... "FLATLINE!!!!"
"WE ARE LOSING HER!!!"
─ The heart monitor was flat now, displaying a monotone sound that frustrated the team. "Starting intubation!!" Jade intubated swiftly. An ET tube was inserted down her throat as the team ensured the airway was clear and oxygen could begin circulating. "Get the thumper!!" A LUCAS device was soon assembled right into place to start mechanical compressions. The machine’s rhythmic motion helped maintain blood circulation while Dr. Jade worked on the airway; the round, cold metal piston ceaselessly thumpee her sternum down relentlessly, cracking a few ribs as it did, roughly popping up her belly back and forth.
─ Once the ET tube was finally inserted in her throat correctly, some tape would secure it and the ambubag would be attached to it. The balloon was squished tightly and constantly, pumping artificial air in without losing hope whatsoever, causing a raspy, lifeless sound of agonal breath to resonate each time. Her pupils were shined with a bright light. Angela's brown eyes fully dilated, as if she has been dead for ages. "No reaction!!" A medic notified, as the violent battle to bring the fallen soldier back remained sharp inside the helicopter. Jade moved to the back of the hovering trauma unit, signaling the pilot to prep for transport. "We need to get her to the ER fast!!" She said, her voice reflecting the chaos that the team was in.
─ "WE'RE HERE!!!!"
─ The helicopter descent right at the parking spot from the roof, as the traum team swiftly prep Angela for transport, throwing a blanket to cover her body up to her chest for intimacy, as she was quickly lifted over a gurney, leaving her ET tube connected to a tank filled with artificial oxygen, as the LUCAS device made sure to keep on crushing her chest nonstoppingly. Air flooding through her lungs as a heavy piston thumped her bare chest, both screaming for her to come back, but she wasn't.......
─ ..... "What is this?..."
─ Angela blinked. She was standing above an odd, grey surface. The sky dark, with stars shining as bright as ever, and a huge, giant ball covered in light, oozing rays that made Angela's skin warm, as the infinite space allowed her mind to relax. She took a deep breath. "This is life..." She let herself float. Her feet got off the ground and she levitated, simply shuting her eyes, feeling so relieved, as if a big issue that lasted so long was finally taken care of. "I wanna be here forever..." She said cracking a smile. She was finally able to breathe for once, not having to fight any longer. ".....I am finally free....."
.......
"BANG!!!!"
─ The team bursted inside an empty ER room. A new set of doctors and nurses swarmed around Angela’s gurney. The fight remained on board. The LUCAS devices was halted. The blanket was inmediatly thrown away, only so they could cut off the remaining fabric of her suit, leaving her fully naked and exposed to the cold; her skin pale as paper. A high-tech BP cuff would be wrapped around her thigh, as a pulse ox was placed on her toe thumb. Additional IV lines were made, as more leads were slapped across her bare body for full monitoring. Then, the thumper machine was resumed, as the ET tube was switched back to the ambubag.
─ "COME BACK TO US ANGELA!!!"
─ Minutes stretched like hours as they prepped her for OR. "Pushing another round of epi!!" And the second shot of adrenaline was flushed. Her chest was all battered up. Ribs cracked and body continously shaking above the gurney, all seemingly in vain so far....
─ "V-FIB, EVERYONE OFF!!!!"
─ The thumper was paused, the red blinking button was inmediatly fisted.
"KA-THUMP!!!! "
─ ..... "AGAIN!!!"
"KA-THUMP!!!!!! "
─ The medics looked over the clock on the digital pad. More than 30 minutes are gone by now.
─ "NO CHANGE, CLEAR!!!!!"
" KA-THUMP!!!! "
" KA-THUMP!!!!! "
" KA-THUMP!!!!!! "
..........
"Nothing...."
─ The team looked at each other and shrugged.
"Time of death: 11:40 pm..."
─ All the wires, lines and tubes would be removed from Angela's naked corpse carefully. A blanket would be thrown over her, leaving only her feet visible, as she is rolled away towards the Hospital's yard, a massive flat land to bury the bodies of all the fighters that have fallen in this war. Her body, bare and covered in a blanket, was slowly burried down.... The nurse in charge of her chart would cross out the surgery she was going to have in order to kill the poison, but it seemed to be stronger. "Angela Abigail Campino Lamas, 24 years old, hm... another soldier killed off the exact same way... this isn't good....."
─ "This is so good...." Angela said to herself.
─ Her family is having dinner along with other survivors. "My daughter is unbeatable! she used to craft robots on her own, y'know? hahah!"
─ Her wife looked through the window of her apartment with a worried look, staring directly at the dim stars. "Hope you're doing okay out there...."
......
─ "Guess you guys will have to get in the spaceship without me.... I tried.... forgive me...." Angela said with a low tone, simply floating in space, forever.
THE END.

“Subtle” DBH Connor x Human!Reader
(A/N: The Reader is an investigative assistant for the Detroit Police Department. Takes place after the peaceful android revolution. Warnings: Canon violence and strong language. Involves an android homicide investigation and sensitive terms regarding the incident. Mentions of thirium blood and weapons like a gun. Use of (Y/N), (Y/F/N) and (Y/L/N) for your names. Word Count: 1,771 words)
Late into the evening, darkness finished enveloping the city between every alley and road. People headed home, ordered takeout, or clocked in to their shift.
Being among a group of individuals called out to a house outside of downtown Detroit, you could be counted as working late. Then again, it could be any time when working for the Detroit Police Department.
Standing in a living room of the residence, you jotted down notes into your work tablet.
You were already at the scene along with other DPD personal. Each person with their own task in the small home. Yet, a team effort.
It had been an android homicide. Suspect was yet to be found and identity remained unknown.
You could do with some more assistance.
As if on cue, in walked Lieutenant Hank Anderson and Detective Connor Anderson through the front door.
Ah, my favorite people, you thought in genuine relief. Now we can really get somewhere.
“Hey, (Y/N), they called you out for a homicide?” Hank asked, taking a few glances around the living room. Furniture knocked over or splintered.
“Yeah. Hey, Hank. Hey, Connor.” You gave a small smile before gesturing with your tablet to the shut down android on the coffee table. “The house is trashed in the hall bathroom too. …Poor guy.”
“Signs of a struggle, but not at the front door,” said a tall officer. “The android—Dennis—called in about the attack. By the time a team came in, it was too late. Blue blood’s still visible.”
“Did the android…Dennis, provide the name of their attacker?” Connor asked as he knelt down beside the android’s body. His LED spinning yellow.
“Only a possible first name. Chris.” The officer answered.
“So….no forced entry. They could had known each other before today. But why murder?” Hank questioned out loud.
Standing, Connor took three steps away from the body.
“You mentioned the hall bathroom, Officer (Y/L/N)?” Connor asked, always professional on duty.
“Yeah, the mirror was smashed.” You motioned for him to follow you.
“Any ideas on the murder weapon?” Hank’s voice carried out into the hallway.
“There’s a broken chair, Lieutenant.” Another officer answered.
Leading Connor to the open bathroom, you paused at the doorway.
“There’s thirium blood on the walls.” Connor said as he passed into the bathroom.
“There’s some in the bedroom, but no other disturbances.” You stated. “It’ll probably absorb into the carpet.”
Why blue blood is in there, I don’t really want to know, but…
For about a minute or so, Connor scanned details in the bathroom before re-entering the hall.
“None of the neighbors reported seeing anyone fleeing the house nor suspicious activity within three blocks.” You skimmed over your notes. “But that doesn’t mean anyone was staring at the house at the time of the attack to be certain.”
“Right. Does the attacker’s name match anyone living nearby?”
“No.”
Connor frowned, “The attacker wouldn’t have had time to leave through the front door without being spotted. There weren’t any shoe prints leaving in the front either.”
You rose your eyebrows.
“Back door?” He walked back through the hall and headed towards the small kitchen.
Being mindful of your footing, you followed a light trail of smudged blue blood into the bedroom. It became difficult to spot the blue blood as it was drying into the carpet.
There’s still no sign of a weapon, you thought. The attacker must still have it. They beat the poor android until they shut down. Someone not okay with androids’ equality? You crouched down. And the windows are all shut.
“The back door is locked.” Connor’s voice traveled through the home.
“You’re not telling me the bastard who did this is still in here.” Hank said.
“The android is missing their thirium pump and anything that might have caused severe damage to his head isn’t here.”
“Shit.”
clink
Your gaze snapped to the bed.
Slowly, you stood up. Your heart rate increasing by the millisecond. You swallowed dryly.
“Is there an attic?” Hank asked.
As quietly as you could, you backed up into the hall. Turning your head, you tried gaining someone’s attention discreetly. Anyone. After two head motions, Hank saw you.
“What’s with you?”
You rose your eyebrows and nodded your head to the bedroom.
In there.
In less than two seconds Hank had grabbed his gun. Hank, then looking into the living room, said, “Call a team in here. Everybody else out.” He trained his sights forward. “Stay behind me.”
“Got it,” Connor followed close behind.
“(Y/F/N).” The lieutenant gestured for you to go to them.
With side steps, you steadily made your way to the detectives. Once you passed Hank, Connor pulled you behind him and allowed you to move through the hallway.
“Detroit Police—.”
Someone rushed out of the room, an arm hitting Hank.
“Argh—Dammit!”
Connor launched to the side, basically a blur of movement as he struggled with the suspect.
A biocomponent dropped to the floor.
Clicking to realization, you went to run, but the suspect and Connor twisted into your path. Fists being thrown and something that might had been a wrench being swung.
A hand yanked you back.
Hank then stood in front of you and gave a direction, “Bedroom.”
“Yup.” You ran into the safety of the bedroom where the suspect had been hiding.
One of the last things you wanted was to be in the way of catching a suspect. Especially a violent one.
“Fricken android! An android!”
“‘Ey, quiet.”
“Android! Androi—Fu—!”
“Hey.” Hank shouted. “That’s enough. You got ‘em?”
“I got him. Come on. On your feet.” Someone answered.
Not hearing any new scuffle, you peeked out from the doorway. Careful not to step in any blue blood of course.
That was pretty quick.
“Son of a bitch. Are you alright, Connor?” Hank walked up to his partner.
“I’m fine.”
“Guess we know what he used to beat the android.”
“Yes. A pipe wrench.” Connor’s gaze caught your own. “Officer (Y/L/N), the suspect has been detained.”
“You’re both okay?” You asked, stepping into the hall with your tablet in hand.
“Yeah.” Hank sighed. The biocomponent on the floor grabbed his attention. “They really hate androids.”
“Their loss,” you made your way to the men.
Hank smirked.
Say nothing, Hank.
“I should had checked the bedroom when you mentioned it.” Connor told you. “I’m sorry.”
“He was hiding under the bed. He could have hit you if you checked. You don’t need to apologize.”
“Or we would’ve had to drag his ass out from under the damn bed.” Hank huffed.
“Fun,” you said sarcastically.
“Yeah, yeah. Let’s finish up here before we have to do the damn paperwork,” Hank waved you off. “You need a ride?”
“If you’re offering and don’t mind. Yeah.”
Connor smiled.
. . .
Night covered the city even as lights brightened whole buildings.
Back at the precinct, you sat on Connor’s desk. A little break after you sent him your section of the reports.
Twirling a pen between your fingers, you watched his LED switch between yellow and blue.
It’s cute when he’s obviously thinking intently, you thought. And that cute stinkin’ curl of hair trying to be out of place again. One day. One day I’ll—
“All finished.” Connor announced.
You perked up and out of the beginnings of a fantasy.
He tilted his head up to ask you, “Is there anything else you needed to do?”
“Uh, nope. Just sitting here giving you emotional support. Silently.”
“Thank you.” The corner of his lips curved up. “There’s no one else who can sit on my desk and give emotional support as you can.”
Before you could unpack that sentence, your thoughts were interrupted by the ever outspoken lieutenant.
“If you’re done,” Hank spoke up from behind his computer screen, “you two can go on and head out.”
“You’re sure?” Connor asked.
“Yeah. Sumo probably needs to go.”
“Right.”
You hopped down from the desk and gathered your belongings.
“And, Connor, don’t give Sumo any treats. It’s late.”
“I won’t.” Connor walked out from behind his desk.
“Later, Hank,” you waved. “I’ll give Sumo extra scratches.”
The older man huffed a laugh.
“See you later, Hank.” Connor said and went to catch up with you.
“Sure thing, son.”
. . .
Taking an automated taxi to Hank’s house opened up room for casual talk and saving your energy for Sumo’s walk to do his business. It wasn’t the first time you and Connor had joined forced for the activity. A little break to wind down from work.
Prior to leaving the Lieutenant’s house, you had left a note on a bottle of beer just in case Hank got home before the end of the walk.
“I don’t think the drawing of a paw-print was necessary, but it was…cute.” Connor said as the pair of you walked side by side, a dog leash in his grasp.
“Some cuteness is necessary, Connor. Right, Sumo?”
Sumo gave a slow, but very deep bark.
“Exactly. See? He gets it.”
Connor frowned slightly. “I’m not sure what to say to that.”
“That’s fine.” You linked your arm with his and added, “Neither do I.” Spotting his smile, a familiar fluttering feeling filled your insides.
Completely normal friendship activities. You thought in an attempt to ease yourself from revealing any of your more-than-friendship feelings you had for Connor.
One had to subtle about those things. Some times.
“The odds of both of us having no reply is extremely low.”
“How could we?” You teasingly scoffed. “Nothing to say…”
I could say that he’s the one that’s cute. More cute than the note, you thought as you elected not to say what was on your mind. Again. A difficulty when Connor chuckled quietly beside you.
Ahead of both of you, Sumo sniffed a neighbor’s lawn contently and curiously. Ever the favorite dog who you two adored and kept far away from whatever hid in the grass at night. Sumo had bravery, but neither of you were taking chances with the big, sweet walking fur-ball.
Bravery, something everyone had some sort of experience with in their lives. In your line of work, the possibility of showing courage was greater. Not a necessity, but it could be accomplished in many ways.
Maybe, maybe one day I’ll have some courage or risk letting Connor know how I feel about him. Somehow, I guess. You thought as the three of you continued walking in the night.
At least Sumo was having a grand time regardless of the internal emotional rollercoasters of others.

Thinking about sex doll Scaramouche the scrapped concept and Wanderer the repurposed Sumeru line, and I bring you Kabukimono the unfinished doll. A ScaraWan model that didn't get all the code written up in him properly or completely. He has the IQ of a roomba. He has no idea what his functions or roles should be, them not being programmed in. He has no concept of how strong he is, oftentimes accidentally grabbing objects and shattering them by accident. His owner/maintenance technician is unsure if the robot even understands that it's a robot, or if it's trying to become a human. Kabukimono showing up with a freshly bleeding heart in his hand beaming like "Am I human now? :D"
tw - implied violence, unhealthy relationships, obsessive behavior, disturbing themes.
ahhhhhfdlsjdkjslsjfdlsk the current wanderer lore is that he was formerly a failed cross-over model between the harbingers and the shogunate line who was then mellowed out and released with sumeru's more academic characters, so i can absolutely believe that in the mess of his development and production, there were a few models made that just,,, weren't finished, for lack of a kinder way to put it. he's got an incomplete backstory with plot holes you could drive a plane through, clothes that don't quite fit with the harbinger's cold-war-chic aesthetic or the shogunate's refined elegance, and most of his functions were made, well, functional. you're told all that up-front when you find a badly mangled model at a warehouse sale, but you don't care. he's got that beat-up alley-cat charm, and as a veteran companion-droid technician, you wouldn't be able to live with yourself if you didn't bring him home.
he works better than you expect him to, despite everything you've heard. his base programming (things like 'humans need air to breathe and breathing is good' and 'don't burn down the kitchen when asked to pour a glass of water') is in-tact, and he still has his verbal faculties, even if he does still get tripped-up on names every now and then. he spends the first few weeks following you around like a lost puppy, watching you fix up other androids and go about your daily routines with parted lips and wide eyes, but once he settles in, he's more of a housepet than a companion droid, constantly either lingering at your side or sitting at your feet, never farther than across the room. sometimes, he tries to help around your workshop, but he doesn't exactly have the gentle touch you need to deal with something as delicate as androids. you've found him elbow-deep in the wiringof other teyvat droids before, and well he has yet to do any damage you can't repair, you'd rather not catch him staring blankly at a nearly disassembled ayato with oil soaking into the clothes him again.
the only things you're genuinely worried about are his self-awareness protocols. he doesn't seem to understand the difference between androids and humans (despite having watched you take apart and put together more than a few of the former), and some of the phrases he uses just don't align with the lines his more official counterpart would spout when given the same prompt, occasionally referring to a 'mother' or a blacksmith he can't remember the name of. you've tried to correct him, to pull out your decade-old anatomy charts and drill a few haphazard biology lessons into his metal skill, but there's only so much you can do to change the ones and zeroes that make up his consciousness. there's not much you can do, but still, you'll wish you'd done more when he comes back from a routine errand with something red and pulpy cupped in his hands, his eyes bright and a wide smile plastered across his lips - when he asks, in the sweet, oblivious tone you've never been able to hold anything against, if this is all he needs to be human, to be with you permanently.
when it becomes clear that his programming was just a little more faulty than anyone thought to tell you.
