Our epic tale began on a cold, wintery eve. Under the dim light of a moon hidden by snowy clouds, the city transformed. Walls creaked and crumbled, rebuilt in an instant in new shapes; new forms. The modern metropolis was replaced with a realm crafted from sugary treats. Gingerbread walls, gumdrop roads, cinnamon stick trees, candy castles. For this was now a fantasy candy land: the realm of the Candy Witch.

"AWAKEN, WOULD-BE INVADERS!"

The witch's voice would boom, a thunderous sound with a tinge of familiarity to it. "You dare encroach upon my land? The Candy Witch's kingdom? Well then, I challenge you. Find me at the tippy top of my castle tower, but not before my trials are passed! Only then might you challenge me and, if you win, I may consider a way to send you home!"

In front of every non-NPC entity in the city a holographic paper appeared. A character sheet. "But the witch would not leave you without a means of accomplishing your tasks," Another voice spoke. It sounded similar to the witch's, but was much gentler. Almost as if there was a singular actor playing two different roles. "Will you take up a blade as the noble HEARTBREAKER? Perhaps you would prefer to cast the spells of the PASSION CASTER? Does the healing power of the LOVE DOCTOR tickle your fancy? Or does the path of the thieving HEART STEALER beckon to you? Fill out your character sheets and review the attached quest list, and let your journey begin!"

THE VOICE GOES SILENT

While the people of Spirale would hear nothing else for now, in a dark lab a young woman turned off her microphone. "I'm an android, I'm not supposed to be an actress..." Ofiuco rested her cheek gentle in front of her keyboard. "Oh well. I've always wanted to try LARPing, so why not give this a go? I think everyone could use something a little silly for a change, especially with Valentine's coming!"

OVERVIEW

Welcome to our 33rd event, SUGAR QUEST IV: THAT MOMENTARY SWEETNESS! This event was inspired by a mix of old RPG games and silly mobile game events. So what's going on?

The people of the city are awoken to the sound of a familiar voice claiming to be the Candy Witch who issues you a challenge: pass her trials and find her at the top of the castle tower.

Everyone will fill out a quick character sheet that can be found on this page, which will determine your stats, class, and abilities!

The wards of the city have all been redesigned with a candy fantasy aesthetic, and you can find these changes listed in a section below. For the duration of the event you cannot access the branches.

Trials will be offered in the form of quests that can be chosen at your leisure. Participating in a quest is not mandatory for acquiring participation, but you will receive a flat 200 Stars for your character's account. You can only claim this 200 Stars once, so doing multiple quests will not net you more.

If you're just interested in event participation, any interaction will count regardless of whether it's in a quest or not! We'll also be offering Oficucotot, Bringer of Love as an exclusive event reward! She's a six inch, Ofiuco-shaped drone that follows after you and shoots tiny arrows at your foes. Not lethal, but very annoying! The item description reads: "Watch Your Eyes!".

The event ends at 11:59:59PM on Friday, February 28th.

F.A.Q.

Will this event have a part 2? No! There is only one part to this event. There will be a raid battle during the last week of the event where everyone can face off against the Candy Witch, however.

Can we use our regular powers and weapons during this event? Unfortunately not! Your character has been stripped of their powers and had their physical abilities reduced to that of a normal human. You can only rely on the abilities and weapons provided by the class you choose and your character sheet stats! For non-humanoid characters, please reach out to the masterlist for accommodations!

Are the listed monsters the only ones in the setting? Nope! Those are just suggestions. You can design your own monsters to face, and even the ones listed alongside the locations are open to visual interpretation aside from the traits already listed.

Will my character undergo any visual changes during this event? Your selected class will grant you specific gear and weapons as part of that selection. Otherwise, nope! At least unless you disturb the fairies in the forest...

Are we required to use the quests for our threads? Nope! You can use them if you want the 200 Star reward, but it isn't mandatory to do a quest to get participation and the Ofiucotot, Bringer of Love. You can just do a different thread in the setting!

Further rambling

This was an idea I had after I read the recent chapter of Web of Truth, Kira’s Monster AU fic. Honestly the fact Makoto felt full and sleepy after just 2 pizza slices was both interesting and cute to me. So…what about a post Christmas sugar crash? And then this idea came up.

A Spider’s First Christmas

Short Story:

Yuma returns from a Christmas Eve party with his college friends, bringing home a platter of a variety of Christmas sweets leaving them on the kitchen counter for a later time since he already ate. As he goes to take a shower for about 20 minutes, brushes his teeth and changed into his wool pajamas and socks, he exits the bathroom and notices that someone else had eaten the entire platter.

Yuma nervously walks to his bedroom to find the culprit as a lump sleeping in his bed. Makoto is seen tucked in, a pair of his front arms sprawled on the bed while the other front pair gently rub his full stomach and various crumbs scattered on his face. He looked satisfied, like a predator who just cornered and devoured his prey. Except in this case, the prey was a plate of gingerbread cookies, candy canes, an entire loaf of fruitcake and a carton of eggnog.

Yuma is bewildered at first but then he gives a small smile. The sweet buffet was clearly a very heavy load, sending the spider-human hybrid into a very deep slumber. Likely his first ever sugar crash or food coma. He did have a much bigger appetite lately since trying various human foods. To Yuma’s surprise, the monster’s fangs retract, and a sweet and gentle smile is left on his face. He looked…oddly cute. Almost an innocent sleeping child waiting for the morning of Christmas to come. But he was clearly happy just to be warm, fed and sheltered from the cold outside. Yuma gives in and decides to sleep on the sofa for the night to not disturb his sleeping guest any further.

Yeah my friends and I used to "play Slenderman" as teens

Nah we didn't play on computer and our phones were running android gingerbread (except the iPhone friends)

But I drew up 8 (or more, depending on how many players we had) pictures that vaguely resembled the slenderman pages

Someone would sit out in the next room while the rest of us divvied out the pages to hide in plain sight (this was in a furnished basement, think semi bougie midwest)

Then we turned off the lights.

And hid.

Within a chosen amount of time, our solo player would come downstairs with a flashlight to search for the pages.

All the while we were trying to scare the seeker.

Essentially the goal was to find all the pages, and all your friends.

The last person found would usually be the next seeker!

It would last a few rounds until we started repeating too many spots, but it was a really good time and I want more people to know about it!

Miho covered her mouth to hide the wide smile on her face, her cheeks flushed a bright red and her heart was fluttering like a group of caged butterflies begging to be left out. Thankfully she was in the privacy of her home office so she allowed herself to giggle and wiggle in her seat, she was surprised that not only Seiji but Yaeka too had given her a gift, she found the earrings Seiji had given her to be beautiful and she wondered if he would notice if she were to wear them should they meet up again, the wine glasses were pretty and elegant and the ravenette knew that she had some fine wine that would suit them perfectly.

Finally, there was the box of cookies Yaeka gave her, Miho couldn’t help but chuckle and smile at the mental image of Seiji in an apron helping his daughter mix the batter and decorating the cookies when they were done, it warmed her heart and only made her wish for the day where she and Seiji could spend time together come all the more faster. Taking a gingerbread cookie, Miho took a bite out of it and hummed contentedly at the delicious taste.

Unbeknownst to her, a certain android was watching her from the cameras with a thoughtful look on her face, “Hmm…everything’s going well but…it’s taking too long, at this point it could be years before any substantial progress can be made!” She pouted, crossing her arms, Aiko tapped her arms as she contemplated on what to do before looking at her phone, going to her contacts, she bit her lip as she stared at the name for a minute before pressing it and holding the device to her ear, she hoped that it wasn’t too late (or that he had his phone with him, he tended to lose it sometimes when he got too drunk). Thankfully that wasn’t the case as Aiko sighed in relief as the receiver picked up.

“Hey, Big Brother A.R.K.? I’m kinda stuck on a little problem, mind helping me out?”

A new day, a new list of tasks from Markus. This time new holiday sweaters were the carrot dangling in front of the event participants. Daniel WANTED the sweater, but he was also grumbling under his artificial breath.

"Make Hallaca" - had that man never heard of cookies? Gingerbread? Beef in corn dough, that was a meal, not a snack.

Come to think of it, every holiday-related recipe to far had been that of a full meal, no sweets or snacks whatsoever. Maybe the android leader was unaware of the big part sweets played in the holiday preparations? Maybe Daniel had something to teach to Markus!

Chestnuts are roasting on an open fire. Jack Frost is nipping at your nose. Mom and dad can hardly wait for school to start again. All the dogs in the neighborhood somehow learned to bark Jingle Bells in sync. Yet retail workers are still more annoyed with Mariah Carey. Snow is getting shoveled, tossed, and formed into sentient beings leading parades without permits. It makes for an excellent distraction as the Krampus abducts children for bad behavior. Fruitcake is exchanged only to find its permanent home in the garbage. Terrorists have hijacked the Holiday office party right before your boss can give you a Jelly of the Month Club membership as your bonus. And of course, the Turducken has returned to wreak its fiery vengeance upon an unsuspecting world! If all this doesn’t put you in the Christmas spirit, perhaps these following Holiday specials will!

Greetings people of today and robots of tomorrow! It is I, Santa Clark, your geeky giraffe friend with a deep love of Christmas! My obsession for the yuletide is rivaled only by Maleficent’s hatred for it, which is saying a lot considering she once teamed up with Mad Madam Mim to kidnap the literal Spirit of Christmas. Yes, that really happened. I know this due to my annual pilgrimage to the Island of Misfit Specials, home to obscure or nerdy festive media ranging from movies, TV episodes, and comics. It’s no easy journey. Constantly I find myself confronted by sinister snowmen, genocidal gingerbread men, and worst of all, crappy commercials. Getting stabbed in the foot by a candy-cane wielding cookie is one thing, but I swear I’ve seen that ad for Wilbur’s White Elephant Gift Emporium more times than I’ve seen Miracle on 34th Street! Sometimes at night I catch myself reciting that jingle. Wilbur’s White Elephant Gift Emporium: Where Christmas meets Convenience! Huh, maybe Maleficent had a point.

Nah, my deep-rooted appreciation for this time of year can weather even the most moronic marketing! It helps that most of the merry media I’ve seen have put me in the perfect Holiday mood! Examples include the time a Ninja Turtle found himself trapped in a truck full of stollen toys, a drunk department store Santa stumbling onto a wish-granting magic bag, Big Bird nearly becoming a popsicle, Gwenpool waking up in a world where Galactus took the place of jolly ol’ Saint Nicholas, a terrifying tree stump trying to slaughter some saps over a stupid ship war, and the year when Death gave the Little Match Girl the greatest gift of all. Needless to say, I thought I had seen it all. That is, until I took my friends on a trip to the Island, tasking them to find me new, strange, seasonal specials to review! Some of them were fair, finding me festive favorites as comforting as coco in front of the fireplace. Others were fiendish, wanting to feed off my misery like Gremlins after midnight. Regardless of how naughty or nice my companions were, I’ve compiled all of their suggestions into a makeshift advent calendar! So stay tuned everyday until Christmas to see how badly my buddies can shred what little sanity I have left.
